The Influence of Curriculum, Accounting Expertise and Lecturer Competence on Student Work Readiness in the VUCA Era

The occurrence of a phenomenon of rapid change in all industries due to the VUCA era and its impact on the demand for workforce work readiness in the hotel industry is the background for this research. This study aims to analyze the work readiness of students at the Hospitality Accounting Management Study Program (Prodi MAH) at the Politeknik Pariwisata Bali based on the influence of curriculum factors, accounting expertise and lecturer competence. This research is quantitative research where data collection is carried out by distributing online questionnaires using Google Forms to all students of the Prodi MAH. Sampling using a census consists of Prodi MAH 8th semester students, as many as 60 people. Furthermore, the data was processed with SEM PLS using smartPLS software version 4.0. The findings indicated that curriculum and accounting expertise positively, significantly and directly impacted work readiness and indirectly affected work readiness through the mediation of lecturer competence.

A Problem-Solving Approach Aimed at Helping Calculus I Students Solve Related Rates Problems

After analyzing our Calculus I students’ performance on a related rates problem from a final exam, we designed a teaching experiment aimed at improving our students’ performance at problem solving. For our analysis, we used two frameworks – one specific to related rates problems and Polya’s general framework for problem solving. The analysis of student work on a final exam problem (N = 57) and interviews with 10 students revealed difficulties understanding the problem and making connections between data and unknowns. The results informed a teaching experiment the following semester when a different group of students (N = 13) used Polya’s approach to problem solving. The students solved and discussed related rates problems in geometric contexts, wrote their algorithms, and were assessed by a related rates problem on the final exam. All 13 students understood the problem, used diagrams, and all but one, established a meaningful relation with quantities from the problem. Having students create their algorithms seems to be a promising strategy in the teaching and learning of related rates problems.

First Ink: the development of a magazine of exemplary academic writing ‘by students, for students’

Exemplars of student work can help demystify the critical, rhetorical, and linguistic expectations that underpin academic writing. Marking criteria, no matter how plainly expressed, are necessarily abstract and so may seem remote—even opaque—to our students. Seeing ‘critical thinking’, ‘breadth of research’, or ‘clear expression’ exemplified in a piece of student writing can make the conceptual concrete. Certainly, research attests to the power of student exemplars in making tacit knowledge about academic writing visible and making disciplinary notions of quality clear (see, for instance, Handley and Williams, 2011; Hendry, Bromberger and Armstrong, 2012; Wingate, 2015; To and Carless, 2016). This paper began by tracing the conceptual evolution of First Ink from its origins in an internal proposal paper in 2014 to the idea of a website that combines the engaging properties of a student magazine with the educational benefits of a learning resource. First Ink 2024 offers a range of first-class undergraduate writing across different genres in the Arts and Humanities. The magazine invites readers to discover the stories behind the writing through author interviews, essay commentaries, podcasts, lecturer advice, and other resources that shed light on the craft of good writing—what it looks like on the page, what inspired it, and how it was put together. Following an account of how the magazine was developed by a staff-student team in the summers of 2022 and 2023, the presentation reflected on several issues related to co-creation, exemplar selection, student engagement, the representation of diverse voices, funding, and sustainability.

A Survey Analysis of Motivations and Perceived Consequences of Work Hours Among Pharmacy Students

ObjectiveTo determine pharmacy students’ weekly work hours during Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) semesters, the primary reasons for working or not working, and how work hours impact their pharmacy education experience. MethodsA multicenter cross-sectional survey was conducted among first-year (P1) to fourth-year (P4) pharmacy students enrolled in PharmD programs at 3 colleges of pharmacy between January and February 2024. The 22-item anonymous survey queried student characteristics, current and ideal paid work hours, primary reasons for working, and perceived consequences of work hours on pharmacy education. ResultsA total of 622 pharmacy students participated in this survey (61% response rate). Community pharmacies (39%, n = 242) and inpatient hospital pharmacies (29%, n = 179) were the most common work settings for participants. Mean reported student work hours per week were statistically higher than ideal hours (12.3 vs 10.8). Most students were comfortable with their weekly work hours (63%, n = 307). Academic commitment was the main reason for students working fewer than ideal hours (76%, n = 65) while financial necessity was the primary reason for students working more than their ideal hours (86%, n = 82). Reduced study time (90%, n = 84), increased stress and fatigue (72%, n = 67), and limited extracurricular involvement (59%, n = 55) were consequences of working beyond ideal work hours. ConclusionMost students are comfortable with their average 12-h/week work hours. Financial necessity is a primary reason for students working more than their ideal hours, and excess work hours may contribute to reduced student engagement in pharmacy education. Faculty can use this information in their discussions with students balancing work and academic commitments.

Application of the Jigsaw Learning Model to Improve Learning Outcomes in History Subjects Class XI-4 at SMA Negeri 14 Medan

This study seeks to enhance student learning achievements by implementing the Jigsaw learning model with Class XI-4 at SMA NEGERI 14 Medan. Currently, the learning outcomes and student engagement have not met expectations. Learning methods that are inappropriate and do not suit students' characteristics in implementing learning are one of the causes of the learning outcomes and student activity that are not achieved as expected. In using jigsaw learning, students work in small groups to solve tasks that have been divided, each group member is responsible for studying and understanding part of the learning material and then sharing their knowledge with other group members. In this process, In this approach, each student specializes in a specific section of the material and gains a deeper comprehension through teamwork with their peers on the content provided by the teacher. The findings of this study demonstrate that applying the Jigsaw learning model effectively enhances history learning outcomes for Class XI-4 at SMA NEGERI 14 Medan. The research indicates a notable improvement in student performance, with scores rising from 65.5% in the first cycle to 86.9% in the second cycle. Additionally, the study highlights improvements in students' communication, collaboration, and respect for the opinions and contributions of other groups.

Practical Research on the Work of College Counselors in the Internet Era

With the rapid development of modern technology, the internet and computers have been widely integrated into production and daily life. To achieve sustainable development goals and move towards diversification in the education sector, it is necessary to introduce modern educational concepts and work models. Counselors are an indispensable element in the work of college students. Traditional work models are no longer able to meet the personalized development needs of students and even seriously hinder the progress of the work. Counselors should transform their traditional work thinking, rely on internet technology to expand their work space, break the constraints of time and space, and provide objective conditions for exploring the future prospects of their work. In order to improve the overall efficiency of daily management work, counselors need to follow the trend of the times, seize the opportunities of the times under the premise of adhering to the laws of student development, and give full play to the advantages of internet technology applications to meet the diverse challenges of their work.

Exploring the Work of College Counselors Based on Crisis Management Theory

As the front-line organizers and implementers of student affairs, college counselors bear significant responsibilities in the prevention and disposal of student crises. Based on the theory of crisis management, this paper deeply analyzes the student work of college counselors. It first sorts out the types of common student crises in colleges and universities, including psychological and academic ones, and points out their characteristics. Then, it points out many existing problems in the current crisis management work of college counselors. Subsequently, it proposes corresponding strategies and suggestions from the dimensions of crisis prevention, response, and recovery, aiming to improve the crisis management level of college counselors and provide a solid guarantee for the healthy development of students and the safety and stability of the campus.

Językowa kreacja rodziny w polskojęzycznych wypracowaniach uczniów z doświadczeniem migracyjnym

The article presents the linguistic creation of a family reconstructed on the basis of the works of Polish and foreign students from families with migration experience studying in Polish schools in Poland and abroad. In the collected corpus of over 200 works, the young authors created, apart from parents, many other family members, creating images of small and large families functioning in everyday life and during holidays. When creating an image of a family, the young authors used primarily the lexical resources of general Polish, and the analyzed material reflects the joy that comes with writing about family.

The Lau decision and the San Diego National Origin Desegregation Assistance Center

ABSTRACT This article documents the San Diego National Origin Desegregation Assistance Center (NODAC), one of the nine national centers established by the U.S. Office of Education to provide technical assistance to school districts cited under Section 601 of Title VI, from the Office for Civil Rights, to meet the Lau compliance requirement based on the Lau v. Nichols Supreme Court decision (Title VI. 42 U. S. C). Additionally, it provides insights into the ideological and political challenges and triumphs of implementing federal mandates for educational equity. The focus of this article is on the San Diego NODAC which provided technical assistance to the Southern California area consisting of 10 counties with the highest concentration of national origin students in the nation. This evaluation case study documents the work, process, and impact, of the San Diego NODAC and reflects on the enforcement of the Lau Task Force Remedies under the Region IX U.S. Office of Civil Rights, the process used by the NODAC, and the organizational receptivity and perceptions of school districts personnel responsible for coordinating compliance at or beyond minimal compliance. This article concludes with an evaluation process using lessons learned by the NODAC based on more than a decade of work and advocacy for students’ equal access to opportunity, quality bilingual education, and democratic schooling.

Pengaruh Soft Skill, Praktik Pengalaman Lapangan (Magang) Dan Motivasi Kerja Terhadap Kesiapan Kerja Mahasiswa Di Bank Syariah

This research aims to determine the influence of soft skills, practical field experience or internships and work motivation on student work readiness at Sharia Bank. The data collection technique was carried out using a questionnaire data collection method using a Likert scale. The population in this study was 501 sharia banking students at UIN Raden Fatah Palembang, class of 2020-2021. Sample collection in this study was carried out using a non-probability sampling technique, using a purposive sampling method. The sample in this study consisted of 125 students. Data analysis uses descriptive analysis and multiple linear regression analysis with the help of the IBM SPSS version 26 analysis program. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that: (1) soft skills have a positive and significant effect on students' work readiness in sharia banks, (2) Field experience practice (internships) have a positive and significant effect on students' work readiness in sharia banks, (3) Work motivation has an effect positive and significant impact on students' work readiness in sharia banks and (4) simultaneously soft skills, practical field experience (internships) and work motivation have a joint effect on students' work readiness in sharia banks.

Human-AI Collaboration: A Student-Centered Perspective of Generative AI Use in Higher Education

The increasing adoption of generative AI (Gen AI) has made it even more important to investigate how education and learning is transformed. The paper investigates the evolving relationship between humans and AI in performing learning and knowledge-intensive tasks. Based on mixed data collected from business school students, the article explores the evolving relationships between human and AI in knowledge collaboration. The article sets out to address how Gen AI usage affects students’ behavior, their academic work and their attitudes towards AI. It investigates how students use Gen AI in an academic context to support students’ work processes. Our analysis draws on collaborative learning theories and revisits the automation-augmentation paradox in the context of management education. The aim is to address the following research questions: How does collaboration with AI affect student academic work? And how do students in higher education use Gen AI for academic work? We present insights into students’ perception of benefits and drawbacks of using Gen AI, their attitude towards Gen AI, knowledge tasks in which they collaborate or delegate to Gen AI and we discuss the potential risks associated with the use of Gen AI. Students are collaborating with AI using ChatGPT for expanding knowledge on academic themes, summarizing concepts, theories, and generating ideas for research topics and methods. Time saving, enhanced productivity and user-friendliness of the tool were identified as the main benefits associated with Gen AI, whereas the risk of plagiarism, its inaccuracy in responses and the need for prior knowledge were identified as the main drawbacks. While our findings underscore the potential of Gen AI to significantly enhance student learning experiences, they also underscore the importance of exercising caution and awareness of associated risks to automate learning. This study seeks to enrich our comprehension of AI's transformative role in higher education, with a specific focus on the student-centered perspective.

Exploring the Impact of Handwriting vs. Keyboarding on L2 Assessments: Biases, Integrity, Authenticity, and Literacies

Is paper or computer better for assessing L2 students’ writing? The ineluctable transition to technology might suggest this question has already been answered. However, the technology divide in L2 assessments may have indeed widened since the pandemic: whereas some teachers have fully embraced technology in assessments as in instruction, others are reluctant to eliminate paper, owing to concerns about the reliability, integrity and authenticity of L2 production on computer. This article shares observations from several French classes at an American high school in which assessments that were otherwise identical were offered to students on both paper and computer. These observations revealed several overlapping areas of L2 research that merit further consideration, including instructor bias between media, academic integrity of student work, and the need to align the technological literacies between instructors and students. The reflection that follows points to specific directions for further empirical research on the effects of input medium on L2 learners in K-12 and higher education.

Using Continuous Online Assessment of Learning Outcomes for Grading: A Case Study

In recent years, the problem of the number of students enrolled in STEM courses falling below the minimum required to carry out the courses has worsened. This situation, which used to occur primarily in degree programs at the end of their life cycle, is increasingly happening in active STEM degree programs as well. The declining attractiveness of traditional STEM degree programs and negative demographic trends are seen as the main causes of this problem. To assist students and their teachers in this situation, a novel approach to grading student work based on the level at which students achieve learning outcomes in an online system was explored. Since the focus was on STEM students, math-based tasks were used to assess student knowledge within the online system. In addition to the accuracy of the final results of the tasks, the accuracy of the intermediate results was also monitored. Each result was linked to the corresponding concepts, which in turn were linked to the corresponding learning outcomes. By entering correct intermediate and final results, the online system was able to monitor student success in mastering concepts and learning outcomes. The implemented online system utilizes fuzzy inference to calculate the levels at which students have achieved the learning outcomes. These levels are continuously recalculated during the semester and presented to the students through generated recommendations after each solved task. The proposed approach has positively impacted students’ motivation to learn during the semester, as confirmed by an anonymous questionnaire. Additionally, the results have shown that the final level at which students have achieved the learning outcomes within the online system, calculated at the end of the semester, can be used for grading and is comparable to the grades students would achieve in traditional midterm and final exams, thus helping teachers with their workload.

Forging Futures, Building a Pipeline: Testimonios From a Collective of Diverse MFP Alums in the Southwest

ABSTRACT For 50 years, the Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) has supported social workers in serving diverse communities at risk of mental health issues and substance misuse, training over 1,000 masters and doctoral-level fellows, and preparing them for meaningful community engagement. Through testimonios, we explore the career paths, collaborations, and community involvement of five doctoral-level MFP alums working at a large public R1 university in the Southwest. Reflecting as MFP alums and diverse faculty of color, our testimonios bear witness to MFP’s influence on our antiracist, antioppressive, and decolonial work, our mentorship and recruitment of graduate students of color, and our efforts to build a diverse student pipeline to address mental health and substance misuse within marginalized racial and ethnic communities.

Continuing Safety Education and Workplace Efficacy of Student Workers

This study aims to evaluate students' awareness of safety education and its impact on work effectiveness. By analyzing background variables such as students' gender, age, grade, work experience, student status, and college affiliation, this study explored the relationship between safety education and work effectiveness. The results showed that students' awareness of safety education directly affects their task execution and situational performance on campus and in the workplace. In addition, the study showed that strengthening the popularization and effective cooperation of safety education on campus can help improve students' work effectiveness and campus safety management. This study recommends further improving the quality of safety education by strengthening training, promoting safety knowledge, and improving safety facilities, and strengthening the cultivation of safety awareness during students' internships and employment.

Project Technologies in the Practical Course of the Russian Language in the Formation of Research Qualities of University Students

Nowadays, the role of science in the learning process of students is becoming more and more important. This is due to the fact that in recent years there has been an increase in the volume of research work, and there has been a change in the educational paradigm, in which the basic academic knowledge is no longer the only necessary capital, which leads to an increase in self-development in professional activities. Research work of students is one of the most important means of improvement of quality of education and training of specialists with higher education, capable of creative application in practice of the latest achievements of scientific, technical and cultural progress in modern conditions. Project technologies develop cognitive skills of students, their ability to independently construct their knowledge, ability to navigate in the information space, critical and creative thinking. In the article the authors define the importance of the use of the project method for the development of research activity of students. The stages and steps of implementation of this method are also given.

EVALUATION OF STUDENTS' TRAINING LEVEL IN THE ELECTIVE DISCIPLINE "QUALITY SYSTEMS IN PHARMACY"

The pharmaceutical industry is rapidly developing and implementing new innovative approaches and legal regulation of the quality management system of medicinal products, which includes a set of methods, processes and resources that are necessary for quality management. Therefore, the study by students of the specialty 226 "Pharmacy, industrial pharmacy" of the elective discipline "Quality systems in pharmacy" is an important area of professional training of a qualified specialist who will master the methodology of quality management, normative-legislative and organizational-economic aspects of quality control of medicinal products at pharmaceutical enterprises. Training of domestic students in the field of drug technology is an important direction of pharmaceutical education today. The main tasks of studying the elective discipline "Quality Systems in Pharmacy" are: formation of students of higher education in general knowledge about the quality indicators of medicinal products according to the stage of their life cycle by fulfilling the requirements of proper pharmaceutical practices and developing documentation in accordance with their requirements; formation of practical skills; raising the level of general and scientific development of students of higher education, forming their outlook and perspective as modern qualified specialists in the field of pharmacy. The purpose of the work was to study the assessment of the level of training of domestic students in the elective discipline "Quality Systems in Pharmacy". Materials and methods. We used an empirical research method (questionnaire). Questionnaire was a key research method, as it allows to get answers from the student audience regarding the organization of the educational process. A survey was conducted to assess the level of preparation of domestic students of the 5th year of the Faculty of Pharmacy who completed the study of the selective discipline "Quality Systems in Pharmacy". 50 full-time students and 2 distance learning students took part in the survey. Out of all the respondents, only one studies on budget forms of education. Research results. According to the curriculum, the elective discipline "Quality Systems in Pharmacy" at the Faculty of Pharmacy of IFNMU is studied in the V course in the IX semester, at the stage when students have already acquired basic knowledge of pharmaceutical disciplines. The discipline is chosen by already formed specialists who possess a large stock of theoretical knowledge and practical skills and are motivated to study a new subject, so it remains for the teacher to systematize information for the proper conduct of the discipline study course. 3 ECTS credits are provided for the study of the discipline in the curriculum. The discipline includes 20 hours of lectures, 30 hours of practical classes, 40 hours of independent student work and ends with a module. Lecture and practical material taught at the level of modern scientific and practical data with the aim of forming students' program results. We conducted an analysis of problems in the organization of the educational process for students of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University during full-time education. The success of implementing the selective discipline "Quality Systems in Pharmacy" and ensuring a high level of training depends primarily on the quality of the work of scientific and pedagogical workers.

МЕТОДИКА ОЦЕНКИ УЧЕБНЫХ ЗАНЯТИЙ И ДИСЦИПЛИН В САНКТ-ПЕТЕРБУРГСКОМ УНИВЕРСИТЕТЕ ГПС МЧС РОССИИ

The concepts of active and productive work during the educational process are introduced. The basic principles of teaching at Saint-Petersburg university of State fire service of EMERCOM of Russia based on the assessment of training sessions and disciplines are considered. The main positions of the effectiveness of studying disciplines and training sessions based on the active and productive work of students and teachers, as well as criteria for evaluating the educational process, taking into account the coefficients of activity and productivity, are shown.

Meningkatkan Hasil Belajar Siswa Kelas XII Pada Mata Pelajaran Kewirausahaan Melalui Model Pembelajaran Kooperatif Tipe Group Investigation Di SMK Karya Mandiri

AMSIYAH DWI RIYANTI, Improving the learning outcomes of grade XII students in entrepreneurship subjects through cooperative learning models of group investigation type at SMK Karya Mandiri, Economic Education Study Program, Faculty of Education, Panca Sakti University Bekasi, 2024. At SMK Karya Mandiri, the learning system that has been implemented so far has not maximized student active involvement, resulting in suboptimal classroom learning experiences. Many students exhibit passive attitudes, which negatively impact their learning outcomes. To address this issue, the Group Investigation learning model has been applied through classroom action research. This model is designed to enhance student participation and learning outcomes in the Entrepreneurship subject. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of applying the Group Investigation learning model in improving the learning outcomes of 12th-grade students. In this study, the Group Investigation method was implemented in two cycles, each consisting of four important stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Each cycle begins with planning, which includes developing group worksheets used in the learning action. Students work in groups to complete tasks and present their results to the class, while observation and reflection processes are conducted to assess the model's effectiveness. The research results indicate a significant improvement in student learning outcomes after the implementation of this model. In the first cycle, the average class score was 63.97 with a classical completeness rate of 55.89%, where 19 students achieved satisfactory results. However, after applying the model in the second cycle, the average class score increased to 70.73, and the classical completeness rate surged to 82.53%, with 28 students successfully reaching the targeted passing level. These findings affirm that the Group Investigation model can effectively enhance student engagement and learning outcomes in the Entrepreneurship subject, and provides a strong foundation for applying similar methods in other learning contexts.

Using open online courses on programming in organizing independent work of students

The article highlights the need to use online courses on programming, including automatic code checking, in organizing independent work of high school students. An overview of open online courses designed to study the Python programming language, implemented on different platforms, is provided. The capabilities of each online course for solving educational problems, such as general training of students in programming, preparation for state exams, developing skills in solving Olympiad problems, organizing project activities, and career guidance for schoolchildren are discussed. The technical capabilities of the platforms on which the courses are presented are analyzed from the point of view of their didactic potential. Forms of organizing independent work of students using online courses on programming are proposed. The general algorithm for solving programming problems is specified taking into account the specifics of using the automatic system for checking and evaluating the solution implemented in online courses.
