L’Assemblée provinciale et l’ingouvernabilité de la Province du Sud-Kivu : de la désillusion au nouveau départ

The 2018-2023 legislature started with an autosubliminal show in South Kivu, a province of Congo-Kinshasa. The spectacle led to an unfavourable environment to significant impact work production on the provincial governance. Members of provincial Assembly, mainly those who regularly fell into disputes, lost opportunity to emerge as political or institutional actors with a development-axed target. Thus, this paper aimed at analysing these behaviours and practices to find out their effects on the governance in province. This study is then a functioning conceptualization of the South-Kivu provincial Assembly in interaction with the provincial government management for the progress of the province. It is based on quality features. The south-kivucentrist pathology conceptualization is the main innovant point of this study. It has widely explained the real living situation in South-Kivu during the 2018-2023 legislature with its consequences on the socioeconomic sector of this part of the country. Our results have shown that no governance that promotes socioeconomical area can emerge from that pathological situation. The obtained results have given a new explanation to the power or governance phenomenon of South-Kivu. They include several dimensions in the point understanding by enlighting irrational digressions and deviant behaviour before some cure has been suggested. Brushstrokes of Tomorrow: Exploring the Art of AI

In recent years, the advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, particularly in deep learning algorithms like Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and Variational Autoencoders (VAE), has led to significant developments in AI-based art generation across various sectors within the art industry. The year 2022 witnessed an explosion of AI-generated art, particularly in creative design, resulting in the production of numerous outstanding works that have enhanced the efficiency of art design processes. This study delves into the application and design characteristics of AI generation technology within two specific sub-fields: AI painting and AI animation production. A comparative analysis between traditional painting methods and AI-generated painting techniques is conducted to discern differences. Through this research, the paper synthesizes the advantages and challenges inherent in the AI creative design process. Despite technical limitations and issues such as copyright and income distribution, AI art designs demonstrate promise in facilitating artistic innovation and technological integration within the art domain. Their potential for advancing sub divisional artistic practices and their intersection with technology renders them highly valuable subjects for further research and exploration.

Assessment of quality indicators in construction

Introduction. Ensuring proper quality of construction is one of the pressing challenges of our time. Consumers expect cheap products from developers in the form of commercial or residential real estate that meet all the required quality indicators. Most accidents in monolithic construction occur due to non-compliance with technological procedures at low temperatures. The purpose of the study is to develop a framework for assessing the quality of concrete work at subzero temperatures (during winter work) based on the results of studies of technological parameters of winter concreting, their impact on the quality and safety of erected monolithic structures of industrial and civil buildings (structures).Materials and methods. The study used the method of approximating distributions of random variables, expert estimates, the theory of multiple principles, and mathematical statistics. The experiments were carried out in the laboratories of the Don State Technical University, as well as in the conditions of actual concrete work on a construction site in winter. The work uses a correlation-regression analysis of the dependence of the organizational and technological causes of inconsistencies (factors) and quality indicators of concrete work production. Statistical information on structural damage and collapse of buildings during their operation was processed. To make organizational and technological decisions to improve the quality of concrete work, it is proposed to take the influence of defects on the load-bearing capacity of buildings as an indicator of the quality level.Results. Using practical and expert methods, the most significant reasons (factors) for the occurrence of inconsistencies in the level of quality of concrete work production have been established. Factors have been identified that have the greatest influence on the change in the load-bearing capacity and reliability of buildings and structures being erected when performing the main types of construction and installation work. The nomenclature of technological quality indicators during winter production of concrete work, their influence on quality substantiated, and methods for assessing the quality of winter concreting technology are developed. Quantitative indicators of the quality of construction of monolithic reinforced concrete structures were obtained.Discussion and conclusions. The practical value of the work lies in the development of a methodological tool for creating a regulatory framework for operational construction control of the production of monolithic and prefabricated monolithic construction and installation works under conditions of exposure to low temperatures, as well as for acceptance control of compliance of completed construction projects with quality requirements. Proposals are given for establishing regulatory tolerances, ways to improve the manufacturability of the equipment used, a new method for designing winter concreting technology, and a quality control method focused on ensuring structural safety have been developed. By developing the research, it is further possible to develop methods for calculating technology parameters taking into account technological variability, as well as establish new indicators to regulate the required level of quality and safety of buildings being built.

Integration of ground geophysical methods to characterize near‐surface aquifer zones within an active mine

AbstractUnderstanding near‐surface groundwater storage, flow patterns, surface and groundwater interactions in mining areas can assist in making mining more efficient and profitable. This is especially important in opencast mines affected by water inflows that may negatively affect production and increase mining costs. We map and characterize the near‐surface aquifer zones at the opencast site of Tharisa Minerals, located in the southwestern region of the Bushveld Complex (South Africa). The main goal is to infer pit water inflow at the mine site and determine how it may be better controlled. The Bushveld Complex hosts partially connected and unconfined alluvial, shallow‐weathered and crystalline bedrock aquifers, which are often connected by small‐scale permeable zones. Seismic refraction tomography, multichannel analysis of surface waves, electrical resistivity tomography and borehole data are used to map and understand the different aquifer zones in the vicinity of the mine, as well as infer their relation to water inflow in the mine pits. The geophysical surveys map the overburden, weathered bedrock aquifer zone, and the top of the crystalline aquifer rock zone reasonably well. They reveal extensive and deep weathering, and possible high hydraulic conductivity in the vicinity of the mine. The results provide a better understanding of the mine's near‐surface environment, which could be used to implement effective and targeted dewatering techniques, thus enabling better pit inflow water control to improve mine working conditions and production.

Building Oral Literature and National Character through Creative and Productive Learning Models as an Innovative Effort to Develop Students' Writing Skills

The Productive Creative Learning model is a strategic framework integrating various methodologies to enhance teaching and learning effectiveness. It aims to inspire students to create innovative works, necessitating subtle instruction in literature and a shift from traditional paradigms. This model promotes knowledge acquisition, meaningful discussions, and the production of innovative literary works by both students and lecturers. This quantitative study in education evaluates the efficacy of this teaching paradigm, specifically to enhance creative writing skills. Using Gall and Borg's (2003) development approach, researchers follow a three-stage process: gathering information through literature and field studies, developing the model via trials and improvements, and validating it through experimental design. This flexible approach suits social sciences and language studies, accommodating diverse behaviors and language usage patterns. The research targets Indonesian Language Education students in the 4th and 5th semesters at FKIP Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang, aiming to develop a model that: (1) aligns with curriculum objectives, (2) functions with or without lecturers, and (3) enhances creative writing skills. Activities include observing quasi-experimental classes, selecting short stories as teaching materials, preparing, testing, evaluating, and revising learning models. Effectiveness is evaluated using gain and t-tests. The Productive Creative Learning Model, akin to a literary studio, is an effective approach for teaching literature, complementing external literary organizations with its beneficial principles.

Dirty Tracks Across the Border: Global Operations of Extraction, Labour and Migration at a Railway Station on the Bihar–Nepal Border

This article is based on an ethnography of the railway siding at Raxaul Junction railway station, a town on the Bihar–Nepal border, which finds itself at the intersection of a massive logistical exercise by China in the form of the Belt Road Initiative, counter-logistical apparatus building by India and incremental hardening of an otherwise ‘open’ border by Nepal. The article will analyse in detail the intricate network of the labour market that operates at and through the railway siding. It will also trace the origins of commodities used in the cement factories in the industrial corridor of Nepal that are extracted from some of the most deprived regions of India at great human and social costs. Finally, I will describe some of the latest exercises in logistical operations such as containerisation, opening of a new land port, the Integrated Check Post in Raxaul and operationalisation of a new dedicated freight corridor from Vishakhapatnam port to Raxaul, which is reconfiguring the logistical arrangements away from Kolkata and Haldia port and their implications on labour and labour practices. The Raxaul railway siding will be, hence, studied on multiple scales: global, national and local. The article will also try to understand the transformation of this very peculiar border town located on a unique border. This transformation is creating new labour processes, migratory processes and networks, and new modes of production of workers’ subjectivities and resistance along the global logistical apparatus and supply chains. It will also open up the possibilities of thinking conceptually about ‘South Asian Border Systems’.

Code Generator Development to Transform IFML (Interaction Flow Modelling Language) into a React-based User Interface

Model-Driven Software Engineering (MDSE) is a software development approach that uses the Model to be the main actor of the development. MDSE can be applied to User Interface (UI) Development so that a model for the UI can be built, and then a transformation can be made to turn it into a running application. In this research, we develop UI Generator to support UI Development with the MDSE approach. This UI Generator can also support UI Development in Software Product Line Engineering (SPLE) paradigm. The UI is modeled with Interaction Flow Modeling Language (IFML) diagram. Then The IFML diagram is transformed into React-Based UI by the UI Generator. The UI Generator is developed with Acceleo on Eclipse IDE to transform IFML into React Code with the transformation rules defined in this research. The UI generator is also enriched with display settings and static page management to address user customization needs. The experimental results show that the UI Generator can generate a functional website. Besides evaluating the working product, UI Generator is evaluated qualitatively well based on six quality criteria as an SPLE supporting tool.

Time management between the personalisation and collectivisation of productivity: The case of adopting the Pomodoro time-management tool in a four-day workweek company

Time-management technologies and their adoption into daily working life have been discussed as solutions for managing individual productivity and as problems that intensify individualised productivity, enhance the norms of busyness and disconnect colleagues from one another. However, drawing on the case study of a company that implemented a four-day workweek, this paper argues that this is not always so. In our case company, a digital marketing agency, the Pomodoro time-management tool led to the personalisation of productivity and instances of collective working towards better work-life balance. We end the paper by suggesting that this fruitful adoption of time-management habits can be understood through John Dewey's notion of habit. Deweyan habit allows us to know how time-management habits are plastic and open to change while always being part of a material and social assemblage. We argue that these two features explain why time-management tools might lead to personalising productivity and enhanced neoliberal self-discipline. At the same time, these features point to how time-management habits under the right circumstances can be part of cooperation and better work-life balance.

Effect of risk management on the performance of civil servants in Enugu State Nigeria

The study examined the effect of Risk Management on the performance of civil servants in Enugu State. The study used the descriptive survey design approach. The primary source of data was the administration of questionnaire. The population of the study was six hundred and twenty (620) staff from various ministries in the State Secretariat, Enugu, Enugu state. The sample size of 290, was used using Freund and William's statistic formula at 5 percent margin of error. 286 staff returned the questionnaire and accurately filled. Data were presented and analyzed using Likert Scale and the hypotheses was tested using Z- test. The findings indicated that, Risk identification had significant positive effect on the output, Z( 95, n = 286), 6.120 < 8.840,P. < .05. Risk monitoring had significant positive effect on the cost reduction, Z( 95, n = 286), 4.376 < 6.682,P. < .05 and Risk reporting had significant positive effect on the efficiency of civil servants in Enugu State, , Z( 95, n = 286), 6.268 < 8.249,P. < .05. The study concluded that Risk identification, Risk monitoring and Risk reporting had significant positive effect on the output, cost reduction and efficiency of civil servants in Enugu State. The study recommended among others that the management should identify potentially hazardous working conditions and practices to avoid damage to the organisations property or injury to personnel. Pre-empting risks can help the workers to comply with rules and regulations, which can lead to better and higher work production.

Maximum power of coupled-qubit Otto engines

We put forward four schemes of a coupled-qubit quantum Otto machine, a generalization of the single-qubit quantum Otto machine, based on work and heat transfer between an internal system consisting of a coupled pair of qubits and an external environment consisting of two heat baths and two work storages. The four schemes of our model are defined by the positions of attaching the heat baths, which play a key role in the power of the coupled-qubit engine. First, for the single-qubit heat engine, we find a maximum-power relation, and the fact that its efficiency at the maximum power is equal to the Otto efficiency, which is greater than the Curzon-Ahlborn efficiency. Second, we compare the coupled-qubit engines to the single-qubit engine from the point of view of achieving the maximum power based on the same energy-level change for work production and find that the coupling between the two qubits can lead to greater powers but the system efficiency at the maximum power is lower than the single-qubit system's efficiency and the Curzon-Ahlborn efficiency. Creative thinking for learning algebra: Year 10 students’ problem solving and problem posing with quadratic figural patterns

There is increasing focus on giving all students opportunities to develop their creative thinking in mathematics. In a fine-grained qualitative case study, Australian Year 10 (15–16-year-old) students experienced problem-solving and problem-posing tasks in a learning sequence designed to elicit creative thinking through visualization and with algebraic (functional) concepts. This article shares findings on two pairs’ creative processes and work products for generalizing and creating quadratic figural growing patterns, related to the cognitive, affective, and aesthetic dimensions of learning. Post-sequence data on the class's preferences for types of creative thinking tasks are also shared. Students were found to exhibit different creativity aspects in their problem solving and varying levels of meta-representational competency in their problem posing. The students evidenced diverse affective responses to the different types of tasks, with proportionally more students preferring problem solving to problem posing. Some implications for engaging secondary mathematics students in creative thinking tasks are shared along with recommendations for future research.

This article discusses information literacy in the face of plagiarism in academia. It reflects on the causes of plagiarism, such as the little incentive for students to produce authorial content and the absence of institutional policies that guide such productions. As a response to this context, the article suggests an education for authorship based on information literacy. Information literacy, among others, promotes a healthy relationship between people and the information universe. Thus, the objective is to discuss how promoting information literacy contributes to combating academic plagiarism and establishing authorship. The method involves bibliographical research in databases in the area of Information Science and argumentative construction in which the concepts of plagiarism and information literacy are related. The results include a demonstrative guide on how information literacy can be used in the production of academic work and guidelines for teachers to recognize and avoid plagiarism. The work concludes that the skills generated within the relationship between individuals and information can benefit the construction of authorship and be an effective element in combating plagiarism.
