ABSTRACT Wing-In-Ground (WIG) crafts have the advantage of being fuel-efficient by utilising the ground effect. Next-generation WIG crafts can choose flight paths that navigate over obstacles while flying at specific altitudes. However, current route computation algorithms for ships fail to account for paths that allow ships to navigate over obstacles. Leveraging fundamental path-finding approaches such as A* and Jump Point Search (JPS), our algorithms are designed to forecast routes that significantly improve operational efficiency. Validation was performed using real topographic data from Indonesia, focusing on fuel consumption metrics to evaluate the algorithms’ effectiveness. The results evaluate the superiority of our methods in optimising route selection for WIG crafts, marking a advancement in autonomous marine navigation technology.
