The influence of caching on web usage mining

Most web servers collect lots of data during their daily operation. Information, such as which pages are requested and who is responsible for these requests, is stored in log files. The analysis of these log files may yield worthwhile information on how to adapt the site to improve the user experience. However, the data in the log files is usually not stored in a format suited to perform analyses. Many operations are needed to transform the logs in a format that is convenient for the chosen type of analysis. After an overview of these operations, we will discuss how caching of pages can skew the results of studies. We will show how caching can be detected and how one can deal with it. Afterwards, the techniques are applied to the data of a European online wine shop.

The Present and Future of Tokay Aszú

Tokay wine is Hungary’s noblest wine. Beyond doubt, it is one of those uniquely Hungarian products, which has been without rival for centuries. Today the role of quality has become increasingly important and consumers who are ready to pay more for quality wines expect it. This wine will be able to get back its original popularity if the message of its excellence reaches the public. Knowledge of historical wine-producing regions constitutes a part of basic education and wine-marketing could take important measures to spread it since good products need to be sold properly and consumers require information about wines – with gastronomy – and wine producing regions.With foreign invested capital, advantageous changes have been started in Tokay-Hegyalja. However, there is much still to do in order to produce, sell and consume Tokay wine on such conditions that are really worthy of a Hungaricum. It is essential to approach the famous oenologists of Europe and the world and to establish suitable production conditions for every winegrower. In addition to following consciously prepared wine-marketing directions, our country needs to make an expected name for this Hungaricum. These aims are important mainly because of approaching EU-accession. There is timely to study on what conditions Hungarian viticulture and oenology could access. It would be a great success of the Hungarian delegation if they could make current Hungarian laws of Tokay-wine-production accepted in the EU. Of course, all of these would be valid after EU-accession. During the pre-accession period, our country needs to fulfil several stipulations. For example, origin-protection, establishment of a registry system, law harmonisation, development of an institutional system.Strengthening of home consumption has always been an inspirational tool in a product’s life cycle. It is important not only to take the requirements of foreigners into consideration and to produce for export, but we also need to satisfy the home market. Considerable stress should be laid on establishing and preserving viticulture. Increasingly, buyers expect high standards and they are ready to pay more for quality wines. They also demand appropriate professional information and consultation. So there is a lot to do and theoretical approach should be followed by action. In order to get to know what quality expectations exist, we have to examine the consumers of the Hungarian wine-market. Study of the Hungarian people’s consumption behaviour, referring to Tokay „aszú”, was closely connected with my work.Participants of my study were consumers who buy Tokay „aszú” mainly in shopping centres, supermarkets and low-price shops specified for wine selling. Wine shops have important roles as they give opportunity for salespersons to make closer relationships with buyers. These shops could be communication channels of spreading wine culture. It would be favourable if in every town or city there were at least one wine shop giving the opportunity of consultation besides commercial activity and also providing services that support the improvement of wine culture’s position. The majority of questioned people spend less than 4.000 Forints on buying of Tokay „aszú” in a year. Results of the questionnaire survey support the fact that there is a demand for these wine-specialities, but lack of money strongly effects demand.The Following summarises the history of Tokay wine, tasks of Hungary and the expected effects relating to EU-accession. Regulation of oenology and the wine-market, referring to quality wines and main results of the survey are also overviewed in the text.

Nutritional Status of Three Tribal Populations of Jharkhand State in Relation to Environmental Conditions

The present study was carried out to find out the nutritional status of three tribal populations- Santhal, Ho and Bhumij, inhabiting in different environmental conditions i.e. industrialized and dense forested regions of Jharkhand State. The Population inbabiting in industrialized region have least calorific intake (Santhal- 1967.
 25 K.Cal: Ho- 2003.20 K.Cal. and Bhumij-1942. 11 K.Cal) than the population of dense forested region (2553.
 30 K.Cal. Ho-2426.86 K.Cal. and Bhumij 2008.18 K.Cal.}. No doubt, industrialization provides better opportunities to earn money but its major portion is wasted on the elevation of so called standard of living and the Theka (Wine shop) besides, immigration among tribal also resulted in changed nutritional as well as calorific intake. The diet of these tribal populations is inadequate as per Indian standards. The deficiency in diet is both qualitative and quantitative, as a result population suffers from a large number of nutritional disorders like anemia, night blindness, bigot spot etc. on the basis of the study it is suggested that a short term training programme should be launched at Panchayat level to provide knowledge of balanced diet or essential nutrients of the food as per requirements of Men, Women and children.

Conceptual analysis, as I conceive of it, an activity whose rationale arises from a compelling view of the nature and purpose of much of language. A very important role for words and sentences to represent how we take things to be. This why sharing a language so enormously useful when we want to share our opinions about who will win the election, where the best wine shop is, and what to do about lower back pain. An interchange format for cross-media personalized publishing

Web sites are rapidly becoming the medium of choice for one-to-one marketing, communication and commerce. Many commercial solutions in this area have the following drawbacks: they force companies to implement systems within a single framework that is highly vendor-specific and that does not allow them to reuse content for other media. In this paper, we introduce i*Doc, a simple XML interchange format for content-level conditionalization based on a variant of the MIL-PRF-87269 standard for classes IV–V IETMs. This format can serve as integration format in multi-vendor CRM solutions and offers consistent cross-media publishing to multiple lower-level delivery channels such as direct mail, ASP, JSP, and WML. Personalization is determined by properties that can be bound to intelligent external systems and determined dynamically. As a showcase for i*Doc, we have developed a demonstrator of an on-line wine shop, where i*Doc serves to transport information between a database of product descriptions and generated ASP pages. The Web site is highly dynamic, as its behavior is controlled by properties that are re-computed using predictive models generated by the OMEGA predictive data mining (PDM) system. The use of i*Doc allows content to be rapidly retargeted towards other Web delivery platforms, such as JSP, direct mail or mobile Internet.

Hemingway’s Anatomical Metonymies David M. Raabe (bio) Long beyond dispute is the 1954 Nobel Prize citation of Ernest Hemingway’s “powerful and style-forming mastery of the art of modern narration.” Still, examination of Hemingway’s texts continues to yield rewards to the reader, adding to the unfinished catalogue of information about the mechanics of his writing and slowly bringing a more complete understanding of the intricacies of his supposedly simple style. Before Roman Jakobson, 1 in the 1950s, raised the critical consciousness about literary “things,” critics recognized the value of non-metaphoric (that is, contiguous as opposed to similar) objects in realistic prose fiction. 2 On his own or by way of Ezra Pound, Hemingway knew about the objective correlative, T.S. Eliot’s 1920 articulation of the idea, 3 which was gaining credence at the time when Hemingway was working on The Sun Also Rises. 4 In this novel and elsewhere, Hemingway orchestrates a variety of stylistic instruments, including one bold variation of this principle by which—in order to present fully the pervasiveness of subsurface emotion—he metonymically associates objects in the story with parts and functions of the anatomy. Especially when his focal characters are experiencing moments of intense anguish or anxiety, Hemingway furnishes the narrative with contextual objects which evoke that anguish for the reader perceptive enough to make the link. In such instances, Hemingway interposes metonymies that suggest anatomical conditions which, in turn, are the focus or reminder of the narrators’ anxieties. These textual objects, which do not directly represent abstractions, are not symbols in the conventional sense. They might better be termed subjective analogues, working with the actual unmentioned body parts as two-part [End Page 159] correlatives to the narrators’ anxiety or pain. Since the narrator does not articulate the emotional association, the reader discovers it as his/her own, and the effect on the reader of this independent discovery is a feeling of heightened empathy with the narrator, as well as a jolt from hitting the submerged part of the iceberg. The climactic chapters of The Sun Also Rises immerse the characters in the hedonistic abandon of the fiesta at Pamplona and sharpen Jake Barnes’s crisis by placing him inexorably between two central facts of his life: his love for Lady Brett Ashley and his inability to consummate this love because of his war wound. Most scholars now agree that the specific nature of Jake’s injury is not that he has been emasculated in the conventional sense of castration but that he has lost his penis, while retaining all other mechanisms for sexual stimulation and desire. External evidence certainly supports this. 5 I also believe that one scene within the text does so as well. Jake is in his Paris flat: “Undressing, I looked at myself in the mirror of the big armoire beside the bed. . . . Of all the ways to be wounded. I suppose it was funny” (p. 30). It seems likely that, because of the natural positioning of the genitalia, missing testicles might not be quickly discerned by a glance in the mirror, but the visual impact of testes sans penis would be immediately seen as funny although probably not humorous since Jake’s desire remains undiminished. In this same scene, after his thoughts have turned unavoidably to Brett, Jake sublimates the tension through tears: 6 “I was thinking about Brett and my mind stopped jumping around and started to go in sort of smooth waves. Then all of a sudden I started to cry. Then after a while it was better and . . . I went to sleep” (p. 31). The first night after the fiesta has exploded in the town of Pamplona, the garlic-necklaced bacchanalians who have been dancing in a circle around Brett take her into a wine shop, seat her on a cask, and attempt to teach her to drink from leather wine-skins. Jake leaves to find the shop that sells wine-skins. Inside it smelled of fresh tanned leather and hot tar. A man was stencilling completed wine-skins. They hung from the roof in bunches. He took one down, blew it up, screwed the nozzle tight, and then jumped on...

Consumer evaluation of retail wine stores

This research investigates what attributes wine shoppers use to evaluate retail wine shops. Interviews were used to elicit a range of wine store attributes and then a survey was constructed incorporating those attributes. Respondents rated the importance of attributes and then rated a specific wine shop's performance on the same attributes. Affective attributes relating to staff performance rated highly, as did functional attributes such as the range of wines and pricing. The 45 attributes were formed into six general factors and these factors were used in a discriminant analysis to produce a positioning map of eight different wine stores. The managerial significance of the results are discussed in the context of the proper positioning of wine stores.

Consumer Preferences for Wine Attributes in Different Retail Stores: A Conjoint Approach

Conjoint analysis has become an increasingly popular approach to estimate the benefits derived from the attributes of a product. This decompositional method provides information about the structure of consumers' preferences, as obtained from the overall judgement of a set of alternative products defined as a combination of levels of different attributes. A two‐Limit Tobit Model approach for conjoint analysis has been used to examine and compare wine attribute preferences within and between different retail outlets (wine shops, direct‐from‐producer and supermarkets) in two Spanish regions: Aragon and Navarre. Three attributes have been used in the conjoint design: price, origin and vintage year. Among these attributes, price is the principal aspect for consumers who buy in wine shops, origin is the most important attribute for supermarket buyers and grape vintage has more utility for buyers who obtain wine directly from the producer. Finally, three wine consumer segments have been identified and characterised in the two regions.

Using product, brand and purchasing involvement for retail segmentation

Consumer involvement with a particular product category has yielded rich results for retail marketing strategy. This research extends the concept by adding brand decision involvement and purchasing involvement as well to derive retail customer segments. An intercept sample of 368 shoppers in four different types of wine shops is used to derive five clusters of shoppers. The typology is validated internally and externally. The clusters derived show strong differences across both purchase behaviour and response to marketing strategies, providing an initial test of the efficacy of using different types of involvement to understand shopping behaviour

A new fault localizing method for the program debugging process

A large amount of effort is spent on fault localization in the program debugging process. So, it is necessary to develop effective fault-localizing methods. Dynamic slicing is a technique for narrowing down where a fault is likely to exist. However, dynamic slicing requires a large amount of run time due to the tracing information that is collected during the program's execution. Furthermore, the extracted slice may, in the worst case, be the whole program itself. This paper presents a new fault localizing method that combines dynamic slicing with forward tracking techniques. The proposed method differs from previous slicing-based fault localization techniques in that it utilizes information from the design specification during forward tracking, and thus can reduce the size of the dynamic slice constructed. This paper applies this new method to an inventory control program at a wine shop and discusses its effectiveness by comparison with an existing method.
