The Direct Influence of Leadership on the Commitment of State Madrasah Aliyah Teachers in West Sumatera

This study aims to examine the direct influence of leadership on the commitment of teachers at State Madrasah Aliyah in West Sumatra. The research employs a descriptive quantitative method, involving a sample of 252 teachers selected using multistage cluster stratified random sampling techniques. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis. Prerequisite tests for the analysis included the effect of the leadership variable on the organizational commitment variable. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS software. The results indicate that there is a direct influence of leadership on organizational commitment, contributing 4.88%. This suggests that the leadership variable has a significant effect on the organizational commitment variable, with a significance level of 0.00, thus the hypothesis regarding the leadership effect on organizational commitment is accepted.

Analysis of the Circular Economic System Using the Causal Loop Diagram Method Based on the Green Economy an Islamic Economic Perspective in West Sumatera

Circular economy is an economic concept that implements sustainable development goals related to sustainable and sustainable levels of consumption and production as well as a solution to environmental problems caused by consumption and production programs from the application of a linear economy with the concept of "take-use-dispose". The aim of this research is to find out how Islamic economics views the development of a circular economy based on a green economy. This research was conducted in West Sumatra. The stages in this research were carried out by determining the main variables in the circular economy, using multiple linear regression analysis. Based on primary and secondary data, the A Causal Loop Diagram analysis was carried out and then integrated with an Islamic economic perspective. The results of this research found that circular economics is in line with the principles contained in the Islamic economic perspective, namely: (1) Principles of wise resource management; (2) The principle of minimal waste disposal; (3) Principles of social justice and growth; and (4) Principles of sustainable development.

Family Support and Its Impact on the Motivation of Schizophrenia Clients

Family support plays a significant role in influencing the recovery motivation of schizophrenia clients in West Sumatra, which ranks as the fourth province with the highest prevalence of mental disorders in Indonesia, with 10,816 individuals affected. This study aims to examine the relationship between family support and the motivation of schizophrenia clients at the Yayasan Pelita Jiwa Insani. This quantitative research, with a cross-sectional approach, was conducted from March to April 2024. The population consisted of 102 schizophrenia clients, with a purposive sample size of 81 respondents. Data collection used questionnaires and interviews, and analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate methods with the chi-square test. Results showed that 56.8% of clients had low family support and low motivation. A significant relationship was found between family support and motivation (p = 0.048). These findings are expected to help enhance the motivation of clients undergoing rehabilitation at the foundation and contribute to nursing knowledge as a reference for further research.

The West Sumatra Provincial Archives and Libraries Office, as an institution with responsibility for literacy development in the region, is required to continue to innovate in providing services that suit the needs and characteristics of children's libraries. The main goal is to increase children's interest in reading and introduce them to the world of literacy in a fun way. We also want to create positive experiences so that children are more interested in returning to the library. The literacy tourism program comes as a creative solution that combines elements of education and recreation, creating a fun learning experience for children. This research used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data analysis used an interactive model, which consists of three main stages; data condensation, data presentation, conclusion drawing. The results of this study show strategic efforts in increasing children's interest in reading and literacy in the West Sumatra region. The literacy tourism program emerged as an innovative solution that combines learning elements with recreational activities, creating a fun experience for children in interacting with books and literacy activities.

Lahar floods in West Sumatra during the Dutch colonial era: Historical records and societal impact

This research explores documents and archives regarding lahar floods in West Sumatra during the Dutch colonial period. These records are crucial amid difficulties in obtaining historical statistical data to study similar past disasters. The research method used is historical, integrating information from Dutch colonial documents and archives such as newspapers, magazines, diaries (dagh register), government reports, and contemporary books, particularly those discussing societal conditions and Dutch government policies in handling various lahar flood events in West Sumatra during that period. This study is expected to provide new insights for the development of disaster studies and facilitate historical disaster studies in other Indonesian regions that are also prone to natural disasters.

Shock and adaption: The economic impact of COVID-19 in the Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra, Indonesia

Remote coastal communities face many challenges yet often demonstrate considerable resilience to be able to survive. This study explores the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the household economy, and their adaptive responses to it, in two villages of the Mentawai Islands, Indonesia. Data were collected using FGD and household surveys. The survey was carried out in Sido Makmur village on Sipora Island and at Muntei village on Siberut Island. Thirty households were randomly selected in each village. Data collected included; household characteristics, type of income change, government subsidy received, and response to the income change. The research found that COVID-19 policies affected many parts of life. There were significant reductions in income level not only because of losing employment but also because disruption of supply chains also lowered demand for local produce. People responded to the lower-income by intensifying their involvement in the agricultural and fishery sectors to meet their food security needs. This study highlights the importance of strengthening access to local resources to cope with disasters in the island’s region.

Toddler feeding, WASH conditions, and clinical complaints during the 2024 flash flood disaster in Jorong Galuang, Sungai Pua District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra

This study focuses on the impact of flash floods in Jorong Galuang, Sungai Pua, particularly on toddler nutrition, water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH), and clinical health. A qualitative study conducted through interviews and direct observation, data were collected from mothers of toddlers, health officers, midwives, and NGO representatives AIMI. Despite the absence of dedicated MPASI kitchens during the disaster, toddlers did not experience significant difficulties with feeding due to aid from NGOs and the availability of undamaged kitchens in some homes. Water access remained sufficient through local springs and additional supplies from the PMI ( Palang Merah Indonesia), although hygiene practices, particularly handwashing, were inadequate. Clinical complaints among toddlers were predominantly respiratory issues, including coughs and colds, with a few cases of diarrhea reported.

Lessons learnt from community preparedness for Mount Merapi and Mount Marapi eruption disasters

Mount Merapi, located on the border of Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta, and Mount Marapi in West Sumatra are active volcanoes. Eruption activities will have positive and negative impacts on the surrounding environment. The eruptions of Marapi on December 3, 2023, and Merapi on March 4, 2024, caused severe damage to road infrastructure, buildings, bridges, and settlements and resulted in casualties. This article describes the experiences of communities after the eruption of the two volcanoes. This research uses a combination of literature review and field observation methods to analyze how communities in the Mount Merapi and Mount Marapi areas prepare for disasters. The results of this study show that to increase community resilience to volcanic disasters and flash floods triggered by Mount Merapi and Mount Marapi, collaboration between the government, disaster agencies, and local residents is essential. Measures that can be taken are proactive evacuation protocols, infrastructure development such as sabo dams, and continuous education to increase awareness and preparedness. Recommendations include more intensive cooperation, educational initiatives, and strategic relocation from high-risk zones to effectively protect vulnerable communities.

The incidence and characteristics of acute respiratory infection (ARI) after the earthquake in West Pasaman and Pasaman Districts, West Sumatra Province in 2022

In February 2022, an earthquake struck Pasaman City in West Sumatra and caused outbreaks of infectious diseases such as acute respiratory infections (ARI). Method: This study used an ecological design by collecting data on the population in West Pasaman and Pasaman Regency in 2022. 13 subjects in West Pasaman and 16 subjects in Pasaman were obtained. ARI cases were mostly found in the female (51.7%) and in the >5 years old group (55.2%). The nutritional status was mostly found in the undernourished category (79.3%). There was no significant relationship between the location of natural disasters and fever or cough in ARI patients (>0.05). Most subjects had a cold (75.9%). Most ARI patients from West Pasaman do not have families with smoking habits (84.6%), while most ARI patients from Pasaman have families with smoking habits (87.5%). There is a significant relationship between the location of natural disasters and families with smoking habits in ARI patients (<0.05). The prevalence of post-earthquake ARI in West Pasaman District and Pasaman Regency was higher among females, particularly in over 5 years old. The affected individuals had low nutritional status, with most of them had cold.

National road cliff protection analysis in Malibau Anai after Anai River flood, West Sumatra

Scouring of the riverbed can lead to landslides and erosion of the river bank. Landslides on river cliffs are a type of slope failure caused by the swift flow of rivers which can be worse during flash floods events. In this discussion, cliff protection is analyzed at the location 0°29'36 “S 100°20'20” E on the Padang- Bukittinggi national road, which suffered significant damage due to the Anai River flood. With a road elevation of +373 m and a river bed elevation of +317 m, the 56 m high escarpment, which is only 3 m from the edge of the national road, is highly vulnerable to erosion and landslides. This study used field surveys for geotechnical measurements, and hydrological analysis to assess the stability of the cliff and the effectiveness of proposed protection measures, such as reducing river flow velocity, shifting the road, and improving drainage channels. The results show that although natural protection methods have shown positive results, they are insufficient and ineffective when facing of large flood pressures. Recommendations for improvement include the construction of ground-sills and flow diverters in the Anai River, road drainage, planting stronger vegetation, shifting the road body, and regular monitoring.

The preparation of complementary food for breastmilk after the earthquake in Malampah, Pasaman Districts, West Sumatra Province in 2022

A seismic event of 6.2 magnitude occurred on February 25, 2022, causing significant earthquake in West Pasaman Regency and Pasaman Regency. It is evident that children under the age of five constitute the second biggest group of refugees Toddlers who do not get fed properly and are in an environment with poor sanitation can be threatened by various diseases. Implementing regular supplemental feeding techniques in catastrophe settings is a crucial strategy for improving children’s nutritional condition. This paper is based on several literature studies that refer to several literatures. Access to facilities and infrastructure influences disaster food assistance. Public kitchens were quickly created in West Pasaman, especially Pasaman District, after the earthquake. Lack of potable water and four-wheeled vehicle access restricted camp food production. Food from PERSAGI and contributors is distributed in Puskesmas Ladang Panjang Malampah. Even in emergencies, typical supplementary meals can be provided. In disasters, primary carers or parents require help governing complementary food provision based on clean water, convenient cooking facilities, diversified food items, or home-cooked, local-culture complementary meals. In addition to facility support, health workers must teach parents about standardised supplementary meals and give them confidence to offer them in emergencies

Moderation of Madhhabs in West Sumatra Towards Hadhanah of Minors Whose Mothers Remarry

This study examines the implementation of the fiqh madhhab of West Sumatran society regarding the hadhanah rights of minors whose mothers remarry. The study aimed to map the moderation of the West Sumatran madhhab of society, known as the Shafi'i madhhab. This research uses qualitative methods with a sociological approach to law. Seventeen cases were found in 3 research locations: Pariaman, Luhak Agam, and Luhak Fifty Cities. The location was chosen because it is an area with a higher level of moderation than other regions in West Sumatra. The location of this study was determined using a purposive random sample technique. In the people of West Sumatra, the right of hadhanah remains with the mother, even if the mother remarries. This opinion is in harmony with that of the Maliki Madhhab. The matrilineal kinship system in Minangkabau also supports this: the child belongs to the mother and her family. When the mother's father is divorced, the child follows his mother. However, in 3 cases, it was found that the father took away the rights of a minor whose mother remarried. Basically, the people of West Sumatra have practiced the moderation of mazhab. This is evident from their practice, where they indirectly practice the diversity of mazhab opinions in the case of hadhanah of minors whose mothers remarry.

THE FORGOTTEN LIONESS: RASIMAH ISMAIL, MINANGKABAU WOMAN AGAINST DUTCH COLONIALISM IN WEST SUMATRA

This article discusses the role of Rasimah Ismail in resisting Dutch colonialism in West Sumatra between 1912 and 1933. Its background includes the historical context of Dutch colonialism in Indonesia and the political and social situation in West Sumatra during that period. The aim of this research was to understand the role and contribution of Rasimah Ismail in the resistance against Dutch colonization. The research method used included historical analysis based on primary and secondary sources consisting of several stages: heuristic, criticism, interpretation, historiography. Sources sought included archives, photographs, as well as Dutch and Indonesian newspapers conducted online and offline. The findings highlighted Rasimah Ismail's important role in organizing Minangkabau women to resist Dutch colonialism through various social and political activities and actively demanding Indonesian independence. Rasimah Ismail was also known for her bravery and firmness in expressing opinions against colonial government policies, leading to her exile and imprisonment in Semarang. The conclusion of this article emphasized the importance of women's roles in anti-colonial resistance movements and paid tribute to Rasimah Ismail as one of the active figures in that struggle.
