Research and analysis on the status quo of traditional villages in Guangxi Province based on Cite-space

There are many well-preserved traditional ancient buildings in Guangxi Province, and the visualization of the academic achievements in this field can help to form a clear understanding of the current research status and development trend, so as to provide reference value for the subsequent research work. In this paper, we use Cite-space visualization software to systematically sort out 317 CNKI journals with the theme of "traditional villages in Guangxi" from the perspectives of literature characteristics and literature content, and find that: the number of published journals on the whole shows a rising trend, but is still relatively small; the academic atmosphere of mutual cooperation among journal authors is still good; the academic atmosphere of included journals is still good; the number of published journals is still small; and the number of published journals is still very small, and the academic atmosphere is still very small. The academic atmosphere among journal authors is still good; the included journals are mainly regional and ethnic, highlighting the specialization of regional nature research; the research hotspots are focused on traditional villages, rural revitalization, tourism development, urbanization and other fields, and future research should be combined with rural revitalization and rural tourism, and more consideration should be given to the development mode of rural revitalization by virtue of the characteristics of the traditional villages and the use of the tourism industry to promote rural revitalization, which is not only in line with the strategic planning of the country but also can better protect and inherit the traditional villages, but also can better protect and inherit the traditional villages. Probation as social work

In England and Wales probation was regarded as social work for most of the twentieth century, but some thirty years ago the government rejected this conception. In the context of continuing deliberations about the purpose and character of probation, it is timely to revisit its relationship to social work. It is argued that a principal reason for the politically motivated repudiation of social work was its associations with care, but this rested on confusion about care and a comparable misunderstanding of the concept of control. Appreciation of social context is argued to be fundamental to the work of probation. Social capital is no less important than human capital in achieving desistance. The skills and values of social work continue to inform probation because they match up to the demands of the job. Reaffirming connections between the professions would enhance the policy and practices of both.

The Influence of Equal Employment Opportunities and Islamic Work Values on The Quality of Work LIfe of Employees CV. Profish International

Nowadays, several companies recognize the value of employee loyalty as one of the tools for their growth. Improving the quality of work life of employees is one approach to maintaining employee loyalty and increasing job satisfaction. The purpose of this study is to find out how the influence of equal employment opportunities and Islamic work values variables on the quality of work life. This research was conducted at CV. Profish Internasional which is a company that has a focus on the world of fisheries from cultivation to the distribution of fresh water fish. The population used in the study were all employees of C.V Profish Internasional, totaling 113 people. By using the Isaac and Michael formula, the sample in this study was 89 people. Data analysis used Patrial Least Square-Structural Equation Model or PLS-SEM analysis using SmartPLS. The results show that equality of employment opportunities and Islamic work values have a significant influence on the quality of work life of CV Profish International employees

Negative and positive freedom of a client as social work values

The article aims to present the freedom of the social work client as a constitutive value of this profession and to analyse its two fundamental aspects: negative and positive freedom. Negative freedom, understood here as the client's self-determination, is the dimension of freedom which, on the one hand, must be respected but simultaneously restricted, and its restriction by a social worker is ethically permissible in certain situations. Positive freedom conceptualised here as liberation, is that dimension of freedom that is the ultimate goal of the social worker’s activities and, therefore, essential to define this profession. Due to the importance of the client's self-determination for social work, the article pays special attention to two aspects of the client's self-determination: voluntary use of support and active participation in the assistance process, as well as paternalism as an attitude limiting the client's freedom. The conclusion draws attention to the proper education of future social workers as part of their preparation to respect and promote the freedom of clients.

How are new nurses satisfied with their jobs? From the work value perspective of Generations Y and Z nurses.

Job satisfaction has garnered significant interest across multiple disciplines as it plays a vital role in shaping human resource strategies. In the field of nursing, enhancing job satisfaction can help prevent workforce shortages. Work values and job-related characteristics are significant predictors of job satisfaction. However, the influence of factors may change as younger generations join the nursing workforce. Although research on generational commonalities and differences in work values is increasing, there is insufficient information on generational differences in the interplay between work values and job satisfaction. This study investigated the factors associated with job satisfaction of new nurses in each generational group based on a work value perspective. A total of 280 new nurses (151 from Generation Y and 129 from Generation Z) were selected from the Graduates Occupational Mobility Survey. Multiple linear regression analyses were performed to determine the factors associated with job satisfaction in both groups. Most participants graduated with a diploma (61.1%), were paid less than the average salary of each group (60.4%), and conducted shift (72.9%) and overtime work (64.3%). Work values and job satisfaction levels were not significantly different between the two groups. Multiple linear regression analyses showed that career growth and task work values were associated with job satisfaction for Generation Z, while task, reputation, and environment work values were associated with job satisfaction for Generation Y. Among the job-related characteristics, nurses' job tenure was associated with job satisfaction in both groups; salary and overtime had varying relationships with job satisfaction between the two generations. Understanding generational differences is crucial for improving the effective management of new generational nurses. Our study findings support that different work value dimensions and job-related characteristics were associated with job satisfaction in each generation. Accordingly, it is essential to develop distinct initiatives, such as a well-structured program, to support the continued career growth of the new Generation Z nurses, thereby enhancing their job satisfaction. Furthermore, providing a conducive working environment that helps new-generation nurses overcome challenges and ensures personal lives should be considered.

ORGANIZATION OF REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

The considers the field of development, specifically focusing on the organization of project management in development. It is demonstrated that real estate development possesses certain characteristics that directly impact the activities of developers and the organization of development management. The presence of these characteristics creates a unique environment in which developers operate, influencing various approaches, schemes, forms, and models of project development management organization. The purpose of the article is to formulate systematic concepts regarding the forms of organization in development projects. To achieve the goal of forming a comprehensive understanding of organizational mechanisms for managing development projects, the paper examines the organizational environment in which project teams operate and the forms of project management organization in development companies. The paper illustrates that in the project life cycle model, the organizational structure of project management can vary both within individual phases and across projects of different concepts and scales. The management organization during different phases of the project life cycle (PLC) and the organizational structures of development companies during the construction phase have been analyzed. It is demonstrated that contemporary organizations consistently channel their efforts towards improving (developing) the organizational management environment in development and creating conditions for the successful implementation of projects. Therefore, in addition to the value of creating new tangible assets, the project management group (PMG) adds (creates) value through the establishment of a unique organizational environment. The approach to evaluating the values of collaborative work within a project team is demonstrated. The developed organizational environment unquestionably represents a value that the developer additionally acquires along with new development projects. Task: the paper explores the organization of project management groups (PMG) in development; organizational forms of development project management; the organization of project management in development during the construction phase as the most significant; and organizational structures of development companies. Research results: a system application for the organization of development projects’ management has been created. Possible forms of development projects’ organization and elements of the company's organizational structure are analyzed.

Picasso without Guernica: Mexico, 1944

The analysis of a temporary exhibition allows us to study how a particular project is inflected by cultural ideas (in this case also aesthetic ideas) and, above all, by cultural policies, i.e. museum practices and the socio-cultural and diplomatic contexts that explain the realization and morphology of a curatorial concept. In order to bring about an individual exhibition of exclusive works by Pablo Picasso in Mexico in 1944 a Society of Modern Art was founded, a private organization that copied the U.S. model of cultural mediation. This foundation was a product of bilateral financing by two powerful institutions, the Galería de Arte Mexicano owned by Inés Amor, and the MoMA, directed by Alfred H. Barr. Because of the political situation during the Second World War, the alliances between Mexico and the U.S. played a significant role. Based on a review of archival documentation and press articles of this period I attempt a reconstruction of the historical process of managing this temporary exhibition, understood as a spatial construction of political power in the collective imagination. This Mexican exhibition of works by an outstanding global artist has not been studied in terms of the messages and intentions conveyed by an ephemeral collection of objects that was deprived of its political anti-fascist dimension due to the exclusion of Guernica, which reduced it to an exhibition of avant-garde art. Guernica was not shown in Mexico for reasons that include U.S. anti-communism, Barr's desire to attract reflection towards the plastic values of Picasso's work and neutralize its potential for political resistance, and external conditions driven by internal struggles among Spanish Republicans.

‘Too young to sit at home’: a qualitative study conducted among employees with young-onset dementia and their relatives

Objectives Young-onset dementia (YOD) symptoms often first present in the workplace, resulting in work performance challenges and eventually loss of employment. This study aims to investigate the experiences, work values, and support needs of employees with YOD and their relatives. Method Semi-structured interviews were conducted to explore the experiences, work values, and support needs of (former) employees with YOD and their relatives. Subsequently, separate focus group discussions were conducted for employees and relatives to review and prioritize interview findings. Inductive thematic analysis was applied to both datasets. Results A total of 15 interviews (six employees; nine relatives) and four focus group discussions (ten employees; six relatives) were conducted. Six themes emerged, with five revolving around the central theme: desire to work. The other themes represent essential contributing factors, including importance of receiving a YOD diagnosis; knowledge, awareness, and understanding regarding YOD; open communication, joint decision making, and collaboration; work adjustments, involvement, and support; phasing out work and future perspectives. Conclusion The findings highlight a strong desire to work post-YOD diagnosis, serving as a foundation for developing workplace support tools and guidance. This has the potential to help individuals with YOD preserve their self-confidence and identity while working within their capabilities.

OPPORTUNITIES AND BARRIERS TO LEADERSHIP FOR FEMALE FINANCE LEADERS IN THE UK

Despite legal and societal advancements that have increased the presence of women in the finance sector, the representation of women in finance director roles remains limited. In FTSE 100 companies, men still hold finance director positions at a rate seven times higher than women, a trend reflective of the broader industry. This qualitative inquiry delves into the factors contributing to the success factors and obstacles to leadership faced by female finance directors in the United Kingdom. By conducting interviews with accomplished female finance directors, the study aims to identify the factors that prevent and enable females to become leaders in the finance industry. Notably, this research identifies enduring social and cultural hurdles obstructing female progress, and how they can be supported as they progress their career. A significant finding emerges: many interviewed women endorse individuals who align with their assertive work values, which often align with masculine traits. Females have to conform to a working environment and practices, and this impacts negatively on their social life, job satisfaction and identity. Given the target-driven nature of finance, the prospect of a radical top-down transformation is generally seen as unlikely. Consequently, female leaders face limitations in their capacity to serve as "gatekeepers" for advancing the careers of fellow women. Exploration and reflection on the female labor industryin the era of artificial intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) heralds a transformative age in the workforce, marked by heightened efficiencies but also by socio-economic challenges, particularly concerning gender equity. Women, frequently occupying roles susceptible to AI-driven automation, face a disproportionate risk of job displacement. This paper explores AI’s nuanced impact on the employment landscape, where it both exacerbates and mitigates gender disparities. As technology outmoded roles traditionally filled by women, such as those requiring lower technical skills, it also unearthed opportunities for empowerment through remote occupations and increased demand for human-centric expertise. This analysis extends to the cultural and educational underpinnings contributing to the gendered differentiation in technical professions, emphasizing the stereotypes that pigeonhole women as less suited for technical roles. Investigating the imbalances wrought by capitalist values, the study exposes the undervaluation of ‘feminine’ attributes in favor of ‘masculine’ norms of economic productivity. It suggests women’s empowerment in the evolving job market hinges on a systemic shift towards equitable recognition of all work forms, transcending traditional gender roles. In conclusion, redefining work value and leveraging inclusive AI applications emerge as pivotal to counteracting historical biases and ensuring women’s equitable participation alongside men. This comprehensive approach involves reorienting policy, corporate culture, and academic vectors to facilitate a society where diversity is celebrated, and gender parity is achieved. AI, while a disruptor, thus becomes a potential equalizer in the quest for gender-inclusive growth.

Social Work Journals and the Disciplinary Production of Alternative Knowledge(s)

ABSTRACT Disciplinary knowledge is reflected, legitimated, and replicated in academic journals, social work knowledge reproducing mainly Western knowledge(s). Hence, there has been an increase in the calls for a stronger articulation and inclusion of critical alternatives. Using a critical social work lens, we explored whether and how social work journals reproduce alternative knowledges. We developed a novel global list of all 272 social work journals and invited journal editors to respond to a virtual, exploratory qualitative survey. Through our reflexive thematic analysis, we identified two core themes in the 31 responses – the journal editors’ attachment to dominant, white, western social work knowledge and values, and their rhetorical inclusion of alternative knowledges. Alternative knowledges were seldom constructed as subjugated voices, but rather as innovation, gaps, or international perspectives. Despite agreeing that social work journals should include of a variety of knowledges, few journals created intentional space for subordinated knowledges. A disciplining mechanism that excludes/minimizes the alternative voices, and invalidates their experience was used to avoid attention to marginalized and silenced perspectives. Such processes impoverish social work knowledge. To enrich social work knowledge, journal editors should act intentionally, collectively, and critically to identify critical alternative knowledges and facilitate their inclusion in the social work canon.

The Future of the Philosophy of Work

ABSTRACTWork has always been a significant source of ethical questions, philosophical reflection, and political struggle. Although the future of work in a sense is always at stake, the issue is particularly relevant right now, in light of the advent of advanced AI systems and the collective experience of the COVID‐19 pandemic. This has reinvigorated philosophical discussion and interest in the study of the future of work. The purpose of this survey article is to provide an overview of the emerging philosophical field that engages with the future of work, with a special focus on equality and justice, and to outline a research agenda that can help the field to develop further. Section 2 provides some historical context for the current surge in interest in the topic. Then, we discuss what work is and whether there is a philosophy of work (Section 3). The four main sub‐debates we then turn to concern the value of work (Section 4), distributive justice and work (Section 5), productive justice (Section 6), and institutional reforms prompted by changes in how work is organized (Section 7). The final section discusses the importance of the distinction between ideal and non‐ideal theory in philosophical investigations into the future of work.

University rankings: Time to reconsider

University rankings offer some benefits but also come with significant drawbacks. While they can encourage healthy competition, they often lead to unethical practices and prioritize short- term gains over long-term educational purposes. Relying on biased metrics like citations and journal impact factors is a major flaw, potentially misrepresenting the true value of scholarly work. The foremost focus of universities should be on educating proficient students, advancing dependable knowledge, and addressing societal needs. Annual rankings based on one year's criteria and output prove impractical, as research outcomes and educational impact require more time to materialize. It is crucial to consider abandoning or reevaluating ranking systems to prevent biased, financially-driven approaches from causing harm. An internal assessment, gauging satisfaction levels within the university community and the quality of education provided, could offer a more effective approach to ranking universities. Acknowledging the negative impact of journal rankings took decades. It is imperative to avoid subjecting educational systems to similarly detrimental effects from university rankings. The most effective method for ranking universities is through an internal system that takes into account the satisfaction levels of university community members regarding their work conditions and overall institution, as well as whether students are acquiring the education and skills they seek.

Establishing circularity: development and validation of the circular work value scale (CWVS).

Addressing the lack of German-language instruments, this study aims to develop a questionnaire that enables the measurement of work values. According to the theory of basic human values (Schwartz, 1992), a culturally fitting questionnaire is validated by covering constructs in the four broader dimensions of Social, Prestige, Intrinsic, and Extrinsic work values. Convergent, discriminant and incremental congruent validity are assessed. Data were collected in a cross-sectional online-based panel survey. Individuals working more than 20 h per week were included (N = 1,049). Using a genetic algorithm, an economical and valid questionnaire was designed to assess work values. The 11 work values are measurable with three items each. They provide a good fit to the data with support for strict measurement invariance. The empirical associations to estimate construct validity overall reflect expected relations to social and individualistic work motives, neuroticism, environmental awareness, and basic values. Furthermore, congruent incremental validity is supported with relations to value congruence of the person-organization fit, and multidimensional scaling supports the assumed theoretical circularity of the work values. This study developed a questionnaire that enables a theory-based valid measurement of work values. The questionnaire allows practitioners to economically collect information about the value structure of employees or applicants. Future research should consider the development of work values over time and investigate whether more distinctive constructs provide a better fit in the nomological network.

Music plays a central role in conveying messages and expressing emotions, often serving as an escape from daily life. In the context of Western music production, complexity is commonly considered a measure of the value of a musical work. However, this work aims to present a new perspective by asserting that beauty exists in simple music. Inspiration is drawn from meditation music, a discourse that fosters reflection and contemplation through the medium of music. Meditation music, as a means to seek tranquility and mental balance, can influence listeners physically, spiritually, and emotionally. This research explores the dissonance of tones within the harmony of meditation music, bringing forth new thoughts on musical elements and integrating principles of Zen Buddhism, particularly the concept of satori as the essence of Zen that reflects the teachings of enlightenment. The hope is that this composition not only enriches the auditory experience but also provides support in the journey of individuals seeking tranquility amidst the chaos of daily life.

The Cultural Consequences of Market Transition: An Empirical Examination of Rising Materialism in Twenty-First-Century China

This study examines how markets affect personal culture in the context of postsocialist China. Drawing on several bodies of literature, I argue that China’s transition to a market economy promotes materialist values via two causal pathways. First, market transition entails a process of economic liberalization, which accentuates economic incentives and exacerbates existential insecurity. Second, market transition also entails a process of commodification that, by immersing individuals in market relations, crowds out intrinsic motives and normalizes the pursuit of material self-interests. My empirical analysis uses repeated cross-sectional data from a large-scale national survey to demonstrate the effect of market transition through the lens of work values. Taking advantage of China’s regional variations in the pace of institutional change, I show that, between 2005 and 2015, provinces where market transition had made greater progress tended to experience a sharper rise in materialist work values. Additional analyses reveal significant differences in work values between state-sector employees and workers in the market sector, and that the relationship between market transition and materialist values extends beyond the work domain. These findings contribute to the theoretical literature on the cultural consequences of markets and the empirical knowledge on cultural change in contemporary China.

A Retrospective of Monique Aubry’s Contributions

This article has three main objectives: (1) to present Monique Aubry’s professional trajectory, (2) to describe her intellectual legacy, and (3) to reveal her craft and work values. The first two sections are narrated by Monique in her own voice. The third part is based on conversations between Monique and Viviane Sergi, her colleague, collaborator, and friend, which took place in May and June 2023, while writing the other parts of this article.

Extensive Loss and Gain of Conserved Noncoding Elements During Early Teleost Evolution.

Conserved noncoding elements in vertebrates are enriched around transcription factor loci associated with development. However, loss and rapid divergence of conserved noncoding elements has been reported in teleost fish, albeit taking only few genomes into consideration. Taking advantage of the recent increase in high-quality teleost genomes, we focus on studying the evolution of teleost conserved noncoding elements, carrying out targeted genomic alignments and comparisons within the teleost phylogeny to detect conserved noncoding elements and reconstruct the ancestral teleost conserved noncoding elements repertoire. This teleost-centric approach confirms previous observations of extensive vertebrate conserved noncoding elements loss early in teleost evolution, but also reveals massive conserved noncoding elements gain in the teleost stem-group over 300 million years ago. Using synteny-based association to link conserved noncoding elements to their putatively regulated target genes, we show the most teleost gained conserved noncoding elements are found in the vicinity of orthologous loci involved in transcriptional regulation and embryonic development that are also associated with conserved noncoding elements in other vertebrates. Moreover, teleost and vertebrate conserved noncoding elements share a highly similar motif and transcription factor binding site vocabulary. We suggest that early teleost conserved noncoding element gains reflect a restructuring of the ancestral conserved noncoding element repertoire through both extreme divergence and de novo emergence. Finally, we support newly identified pan-teleost conserved noncoding elements have potential for accurate resolution of teleost phylogenetic placements in par with coding sequences, unlike ancestral only elements shared with spotted gar. This work provides new insight into conserved noncoding element evolution with great value for follow-up work on phylogenomics, comparative genomics, and the study of gene regulation evolution in teleosts.

Using Critical Race Theory in Social Work Education to Prepare Antiracist Practitioners: A Systematized Review

ABSTRACT Growing concerns arise over the effectiveness of cultural competency and humility in addressing systemic racism in social work. Scholars advocate for the incorporation of critical race theory (CRT) into social work education; however, its polarization creates uncertainty. This systematized review synthesizes the contemporary use of CRT in social work curricula. Comprehensive searches were conducted and sixteen peer-reviewed studies met the inclusion criteria, representing BSW, MSW, and PhD education. Three roles for CRT within social work were identified: (a) understanding systemic racism, (b) an alternative model to cultural competence, and (c) the inclusion of CRT into the social work curriculum or specific courses. Benefits and barriers are also identified. To align with social work values, social work should consider the integration of CRT across the curriculum.

All the Working World’s A Stage: Narcissism, Work Values, and Vocational Preferences

Prior research has established that individuals high in narcissism may favor certain professions over others, but the reasons for this remain speculative. The present study employs the Narcissistic Admiration and Rivalry Concept model to differentiate between two motivational drivers of narcissism – admiration (desire for praise) and rivalry (desire to denigrate others) – and explores their influence on vocational preferences in an online sample of 386 full-time U.S. employees. Further, we examine the role of work values (achievement, comfort, status, altruism, safety, autonomy) as mediators in these preferences. By understanding how narcissism’s two dimensions shape interest in various vocations, we expand upon previous research on subclinical personality and career preferences, offering organizations a way to proactively identify workers with potentially derailing personality characteristics. Finding that work values mediate the relationship between narcissism and vocational interests suggests the importance of investigating this mediating mechanism with other bright and dark traits.
