Abstract USS 18-8 Mo (AISI Type 316) is an iron-chromium-nickel alloy with superior resistance to corrosion because of an addition of 2 to 3% molybdenum. It is formable and weldable. It has good creep strength and is very well suited for high-temperature applications that require relatively high strengths up to 1500 F. It resists corrosion from a wide variety of chemicals and is highly resistant to oxidation to 1650 F. Its numerous applications include pharmaceutical equipment, pulp and paper industry, dairy equipment, and chemical processing. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness and creep. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: SS-325. Producer or source: United States Steel Corporation.
