Assessing the Major Factors That Affect the Adoption of Information and Communications Technology on Court Service Delivery in Zambia

The study was conducted to establish the major factors that affect the adoption of information and communications technology on court service delivery in Zambia. This study was guided by the updated Information System Success Model (ISSM) which was used as the conceptual framework to generate thirteen (13) hypotheses which were analyzed after data collection and findings. This research adopted the explanatory research design and used the quantitative methodology to examine the adoption and impact of digitalization at the High Court of Zambia in Lusaka within a positivistic paradigm. The target population consisted of approximately 180 employees that use information systems and it was from this population that the sample was drawn. The sample of 103 was selected by utilizing the stratified random sampling method. Descriptive analysis and Pearson’s correlation were used to analyze the results. The findings revealed that there was a strong positive statistical relationship between the use of ICT and self-efficacy, Information Quality, IT Security, System quality, service quality, net performance and User Satisfaction in ICT. Furthermore, the findings revealed that there was a strong positive statistical relationship between the user satisfaction in ICT and self-efficacy, Information Quality, IT Security, System quality, service quality, net performance and the use of ICT. Thus, the study concludes that an increase in Self-efficacy, Information Quality, IT Security, System quality, service quality, net performance, and User Satisfaction in ICT can enhance the use of ICT, and an increase in self-efficacy, Information Quality, IT Security, System quality, service quality, net performance and the use of ICT can also enhance user satisfaction in ICT. The study recommends that although the Service Quality was statistically significant to both System use and User satisfaction in the adoption of ICTs. Thus, ICT provides reliable services as well as technical support provided by authorities that satisfy users. The government is required to build technical capability of users to make them help each other when they are facing difficulties in using ICT system in their daily activities. Also, the government has to facilitate the technical support team or helpdesk to work 24 hours per week in order to support users for the effective use of the system.

Modelling Students' Satisfaction with Computer-Based Assessment (CBA) Environments in Higher Education: The Roles of CBA Center Service Satisfaction and Perceived Trust

It has been extensively researched how satisfied students are with the vast majority of goods and services offered by educational institutions of higher learning. However, there appears to be a paucity of research on students' satisfaction with the facilities and services of computer-based assessment (CBA) centers in higher education institutions, especially when the centers are equipped and staffed by third-party vendors. The CBA centers are public and private examination centers in developing countries that administer computer-based tests for higher education and other external organizations. Although satisfaction with the services and facilities is essential, it has been asserted that having the feeling of trust when using the CBA is even more critical to the students. Trust is essential for the success of any technological advancement, especially in the field of education. Any educational technology that lacks the stakeholders' trust, regardless of how effective it may be, is doomed to fail to be adopted on a large scale. However, limited studies have investigated how students' trust in the CBA affects their satisfaction. Therefore, this study aims to model and analyze the roles of CBA center service satisfaction and perceived trust in the CBA in attaining overall satisfaction by exploring their roles in influencing student satisfaction. A research framework based on the updated information system success model (ISSM) is validated using a survey incorporating system quality, service quality, question content, the cost-effectiveness of CBA services, CBA center service satisfaction, and perceived trust. A total of 459 survey responses collected from three higher education institutions in Nigeria were analyzed using structural equation modelling. As a result, the findings confirmed that students' satisfaction with services at the CBA centers is a mediator between service quality, system quality, and overall satisfaction with CBA. The correlation between CBA centre service satisfaction and overall CBA satisfaction was also found to be the strongest, indicating that student satisfaction with the services and facilities at the CBA centre is crucial. CBA center managers and institutions can utilize the findings from this study to successfully implement the CBA. In enhancing students‘ CBA satisfaction, higher education institutions should consider focusing on the necessary steps towards improving the conditions of the CBA centers in terms of infrastructure and services rendered. Meanwhile, to increase student satisfaction besides enhancing the system and service quality and cost-effectiveness, institutions should seriously consider promoting the CBA to the students by highlighting the personal impact of the CBA in terms of trust by improving the quality and features of the CBA.

User Satisfaction with Computer-Based Test (CBT): The Mediating Role of CBT Centre Service Satisfaction

User satisfaction with most goods and services in the information system (IS) has been well studied. However, there appears to be little research on examinees' satisfaction with facilities and services provided at computer-based test (CBT) centres, particularly when the centres are equipped and manned by outsourced vendors. In Nigeria, the CBT centres are public and private examination centres equipped to conduct the annual matriculation examination computer-based test. The study aims to investigate and empirically test the role of quality factors in predicting CBT satisfaction. The study also intends to test a mediator to explore further how some quality factors influence the examinee's satisfaction. The research framework is based on the updated information system success model (ISSM) and is validated using a survey incorporating system quality, service quality, question content, the cost-effectiveness of CBT services, and CBT centre service satisfaction. A total of 455 surveys using structural equation modelling were analysed.

The Moderating Role of Personal Innovativeness in Tourists’ Intention to Use Web 3.0 Based on Updated Information Systems Success Model

Rapid technological development has led to an information explosion in the current Web environment. Recently, tourists have become reliant on the Internet as a tool to obtain information about the places they intend to visit. However, due to the overload of information, tourists face many challenges and difficulties in making the right choice. Despite the promise of Web 3.0’s revolutionary solutions to address all of Web 2.0’s shortcomings, there is still a significant gap between currently implemented systems and the useful innovation of future technologies in the tourism industry. This study proposes a theoretical model to examine the role of personal innovativeness in tourists’ intention to use Web 3.0 based on the DeLone and McLean model. Although many attempts were made in prior work to address this issue, most of those studies focused on the evolution of Web 3.0 from the technical side and did not investigate it from the theoretical perspective in different domains in general and tourism in particular. The method of this study was based on a survey questionnaire with 643 participants. SmartPLS version 3.3.3 was used to analyze the study data. The results of this study reveal that information quality, system quality, service quality, social influence, and personal innovativeness had significant effects on tourists’ intention to use Web 3.0, while awareness did not have a significant effect. This study provides further insights, expands our understanding of the study topic, and contributes to this growing research area, and the novel research framework can act as a fundamental theoretical model for future studies in different contexts.

Evaluation of the Egyptian knowledge bank using the information systems success model

The appearance of the coronavirus pandemic had several implications on the educational process, which caused students, at all educational levels, to resort to digital libraries as the available educational opportunity in this challenging time. This study sheds light on the Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB) as one of the largest digital libraries in the world. It empirically evaluates the EKB, using the updated Information Systems Success (ISS) model proposed by DeLone and McLean (2003), among postgraduate business students in the context of Egyptian universities with a sample of 245 students. The results indicate that all nine hypotheses derived from the research model are supported and significant, contributing either directly or indirectly to the success of the EKB. Hence, the results confirm the validity of the ISS model in measuring the success of the EKB. These findings highlight as well the significance of investing more deeply in digital libraries as a coping mechanism for the educational recovery process from COVID-19 and the importance of creating awareness among students about digital libraries in order to sustain the learning process in a safe environment.

Developing a Recommendation Model for the Smart Factory System

In Industry 4.0, the concept of a Smart Factory heralds a new phase in manufacturing; the Smart Factory System (SFS) will have a huge demand in Taiwan. However, the cost of constructing a factory system will be high, and the complexity processes and introduction time must be considered. Thus, it is important to figure out how to grasp the key success factors for Smart Factories to reduce difficulties in the process, deal with the occurrence of problems, and improve the success rate of constructing Smart Factories. This research constructs an SFS recommendation model to make up for past research deficiencies in terms of recommendation. It combines the methodology of the Engel–Kollat–Blackwell Model (EKB Model) and the Modified Delphi Method to derive SFS recommendation indicators. Through analyzing weights, the ELECTRE II was used to obtain the importance of each dimension by calculating the Modified Compound Advantage Matrix. For prototype indicators, it reviewed the past literature to find out deficiencies and examined the world’s four largest manufactories or computer technology corporations to analyze their Smart Factory solutions regarding the SFS function characteristics. The survey ran for several rounds with a group of five experts to amend indicators until a consensus was obtained. It proposed 64 indicators of 8 primary dimensions in total, based on the Updated Information System Success Model, and then added the concepts of SFS Function characteristics, Information Security, Perceived Value, Perceived Risk, and UI Design. According to the indicators, the framework and prototype of this system will provide solutions and references for purchasing SFS, the functions of which include SFS purchase ability analysis, demand analysis of manufacture problems, and raking and scoring of recommendation indicators. It will provide real-time ranking and the best alternative recommendations to suppliers, and will not only be referred to for design and modification but also enable the requirements to be closer to the users’ demands.

Antecedents and consequences of user engagement in smartphone travel apps

Examining the factors influencing user satisfaction and loyalty on paid knowledge platforms

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to draw on the updated information system success model, perceived value and new product novelty to identify the factors that may influence user satisfaction and loyalty with paid knowledge platforms.Design/methodology/approachThe authors used the survey method to collect 540 valid sample data. The structural equation modelling (SEM) technique was employed to test the proposed research model and hypotheses.FindingsThe findings suggested that system, information and service quality significantly affected the perceived utilitarian value, while service quality and new product novelty had significant impact on perceived hedonic value. Besides, both the perceived utilitarian value and the perceived hedonic value had a significant effect on user satisfaction and further significantly impacted user loyalty. The authors also found user differences, including gender, education level and use frequency, which had a significant influence on perceived utilitarian value, perceived hedonic value and user loyalty.Research limitations/implicationsThe results can help researchers and practitioners better understanding the factors that influence user satisfaction and loyalty with paid knowledge platforms.Originality/valueThe authors applied the theories of perceived value, new product novelty and user loyalty to the domain of paid knowledge platforms and explored the factors influencing the user satisfaction and loyalty to paid knowledge platforms.

Assessing E-Commerce Success from a Millennial Perspective in Indonesia

This research was conducted to assess the success of e-commerce from the perspective of the millennial generation in Indonesia. This research was conducted through a case study on the Bukalapak Application, which in recent times has decreased from the perspective of the number of visitors. This study refers to the DeLon and McLean Updated Information System Success Model. The measurement indicators used in this study were modified based on a review of several recent studies. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire distributed to 291 respondents consisting of Bukalapak Application users who are included in the millennial generation in Indonesia. Based on the research results above, it can be concluded that all hypotheses can be accepted. Where the quality of information and customer satisfaction has a stronger influence on the use of the Bukalapak Application. Whereas service quality and system quality have a stronger influence on customer satisfaction in using the Bukalapak Application. Then user satisfaction has a stronger effect than using the system at a net profit. It is also known that the millennial generation in Indonesia also considers that the Bukalapak Application has good information quality, system quality, and service quality. Millennial also claims to have used the Bukalapak Application and expressed satisfaction with using the Bukalapak Application and stated that the Bukalapak Application was useful.

Predictors of electronic health management information system for improving the quality of care for women and people with disabilities

The electronic Hospital management Information System (eHMIS) can improve care for vulnerable patients, help collect important disability and maternal health data, and improve the hospital’s overall data management. This study assessed the use of HMIS and factors influencing the usage and behavioral intentions to use the eHMIS at the Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT). We investigated both clinical and non-clinical staff (n=69) using tablets and online surveys, with a rate of return of 71.9%. The ICT staff were also interviewed to supplement data from the survey. The survey questionnaire was guided by the updated Information System Success (ISS) model. Most health workers (81.2%) used the eHMIS several times a day to support different decision-making activities. The better educated personnel were more likely to enter data more effectively into eHMIS as compared to their counterparts. Among six predictors, self-efficacy positively influenced self-reported use and user satisfaction of HMIS, while service quality negatively affected self-reported use of eHMIS. The system quality positively influenced health workers to be satisfied with the eHMIS, and user satisfaction positively influenced continued usage intention of the eHMIS. Both user satisfaction and continued usage intention were positively related to individual impact of eHMIS. Individual impact had positive effects on organizational impact of eHMIS. This is a comprehensive study conducted in Tanzania regarding the implementation of eHMIS, and factors influencing post-adoptive use of HMIS to improve quality of care of women and people with disabilities.

Constructing Assessment Indicators for Enterprises Employing Cloud IaaS

Rapid advances in cloud computing have seen infrastructure as a service (IaaS) become an essential service paradigm for enterprises. However, the assessment indicators of cloud-computing services are incomplete. This research is based on an updated information system success model. Perceived value is utilized to form the research structure, and this is modified according to resource dependence theory and transaction cost theory. These assessment indicators were examined by experts using the Delphi technique. The results demonstrate that data backup, high availability, confidentiality, and overall value are the most important factors for cloud-computing services.

Does sociability quality of web-based collaborative learning information system influence students\u2019 satisfaction and system usage?

The use of collaborative learning technologies is a stimulating element of collaborative learning process, where social interaction and collaboration are key factors. This research examines the impact of sociability quality on the usage of web-based collaborative learning information system (WBCLIS) and user satisfaction. We propose a theoretical model by integrating the construct of ‘sociability quality’ in the DeLone and McLean’s (Journal of Management Information Systems 19:9–30, 2003) updated information system success model. Proposed theoretical model was empirically validated, in a service-learning course with undergraduate students, where data was collected using an online questionnaire and evaluated through partial least square, structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) statistical approach. Results suggest that, sociability quality has a direct positive impact on the system use and overall user satisfaction, along with a strong indirect impact on the net benefits of the WBCLIS. Findings also confirmed that, system use and user satisfaction are strong predictors of the net benefits. These results about sociability quality, contribute significantly in the domain of IS success literature, by identifying a novel and critical IS success dimension. Further, theoretical contribution in the context of sociability quality for IS success, and practical implications entailing the use of WBCLIS in the domain of service learning are also discussed.

Online service quality and perceived value in mobile government success: An empirical study of mobile police in China

Measuring the success of mobile government (m-government) is a significant challenge faced by the public sector today, as governments are increasingly using mobile technology to provide public services to citizens and m-government endeavors have often fallen short of their potential. To address this gap, we draw on DeLone and McLean’s (2003) updated information systems (IS) success model in order to develop an m-government success model that theorizes service quality as comprising online and offline service quality and further uses perceived value to measure net benefits. The results of a survey of 286 m-government users in China indicate that information quality and online service quality, but not system quality, are positively associated with citizen satisfaction, which in turn is positively associated with perceived value. The results also show that the relationship between online service quality and citizen satisfaction is positively moderated by offline service quality, while citizen satisfaction partially mediates the relationships between information quality/online service quality (but not system quality) and perceived value. This study extends the updated IS success model by differentiating between online and offline service quality, as well as by introducing the notion of perceived value. Our results provide guidance to researchers and practitioners regarding the role of service quality and perceived value in measuring m-government system success.

Health Professionals' Perceptions of Information Quality in the Health Village Portal.

Information quality has an important role in health care as digital services provide patients and healthcare professionals more opportunities for searching and utilising information. Information quality is one of the key factors affecting user satisfaction, perception of digital service usability and intention to use the service. The conceptual framework for this study was the updated Information Systems Success Model of DeLone and McLean. The study was conducted in the context of Health Village, a digital interactive and secured portal providing health services to patients and citizens. The purpose of the study was to survey health professionals' perception (n = 91) of information quality and its effect on user satisfaction. Concerns were raised about the interoperability of the portal with other health information systems and the ease of finding information. Generally, in the Health Village portal, information quality was considered relatively high.

DETERMINANTS OF INFORMATION SYSTEM EFFECTIVENESS IN MANAGING AGRO-BASED PROJECTS

Previous studies have suggested the use of PMIS is considered to be advantageous towards successful project management. Using the antecedents of system success model proposed by DeLone and McLean, and the updated Information System Success Model (ISSM), this study attempts to examine the implementation of PMIS in agro-based projects undertaken by the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry in Malaysia (MoA). The objectives of the study are to examine PMIS effectiveness and identify the determinants that influence system effectiveness. The sample for this study comprised of PMIS end-users from MoA. The findings of this study indicate that PMIS is an effective system to support end users for project management and monitoring activities. Information and service quality have significant relationship with system effectiveness. Between these factors, information quality is found to have the greatest effect on the variation of PMIS effectiveness.Keywords: PMIS; System Effectiveness; System Quality; Information Quality; Service Quality.

Sound information seeking in Web 2.0 virtual communities: the moderating effect of mindfulness

Virtual communities are a group of Internet-based applications that build on the ideological and technological foundations of Web 2.0. Information seeking has been demonstrated to be a main motivator driving web use. Given the challenge brought by quality in the early stage, the healthy development of virtual communities relies on sound information seekers. Mindfulness, which is regarded as a psychological state of consciousness, is an important factor for individuals to make a sound decision. This study develops a research model by extending the updated information systems success model with the consideration of the moderating effect of mindfulness. Data collected from users of virtual communities were used to test the model. The findings suggest that mindfulness negatively moderates the effects of information quality, system quality and service quality on perceived usefulness, which further impacts information seeking in virtual communities. The findings and the implications for theory and practice are discussed.

A Socio-technical assessment of the success of picture archiving and communication systems: the radiology technologist’s perspective

BackgroundWith the increasing prevalence of Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) in healthcare institutions, there is a growing need to measure their success. However, there is a lack of published literature emphasizing the technical and social factors underlying a successful PACS.MethodsAn updated Information Systems Success Model was utilized by radiology technologists (RTs) to evaluate the success of PACS at a large medical center in Taiwan. A survey, consisting of 109 questionnaires, was analyzed by Structural Equation Modeling.ResultsSocio-technical factors (including system quality, information quality, service quality, perceived usefulness, user satisfaction, and PACS dependence) were proven to be effective measures of PACS success. Although the relationship between service quality and perceived usefulness was not significant, other proposed relationships amongst the six measurement parameters of success were all confirmed.ConclusionsManagers have an obligation to improve the attributes of PACS. At the onset of its deployment, RTs will have formed their own subjective opinions with regards to its quality (system quality, information quality, and service quality). As these personal concepts are either refuted or reinforced based on personal experiences, RTs will become either satisfied or dissatisfied with PACS, based on their perception of its usefulness or lack of usefulness. A satisfied RT may play a pivotal role in the implementation of PACS in the future.

Examining success factors of open source software repositories: the case of OSOR.eu portal

The OSOR.eu portal is an open platform for sharing e-government initiative news, ideas, and solutions among public administrations of the European Union. This study examines the success factors of open-source software repositories by applying the updated information systems success model to the OSOR.eu portal. One hundred and seventeen users of the OSOR.eu portal participated in the survey and partial least squares were employed to analyse the data. The results indicate that information quality is the strongest factor to affect the net benefits of OSOR.eu. Service quality has a significant role in the success of the open-source software repository. This study also shows that organisation type and job relevance are moderators for the success of the OSOR.eu portal. This study has implications for how governments can improve the development of public services using open-source software repositories. Limitations and future research directions are discussed as well as concluding remarks.

Assessing e‐commerce systems success: a respecification and validation of the DeLone and McLean model of IS success

Abstract. DeLone & McLean (2003) propose an updated information systems (IS) success model and suggest that it can be extended to investigating e‐commerce systems success. However, the updated IS success model has not been empirically validated in the context of e‐commerce. Further, the existing IS/e‐commerce success models have been subject to considerable debate on the ‘IS Use’ and ‘Perceived Usefulness’ constructs, and the nomological structure of the updated DeLone and McLean model is somewhat inconsistent with the IS acceptance and marketing literature. Based on the IS and marketing literature, this paper respecifies and validates a multidimensional model for assessing e‐commerce systems success. The validated model consists of six dimensions: Information Quality, System Quality, Service Quality, Perceived Value, User Satisfaction and Intention to Reuse. Structural equation modelling techniques were applied to data collected by questionnaire from 240 users of e‐commerce systems in Taiwan. The empirical evidence suggests that Intention to Reuse is affected by Perceived Value and User Satisfaction, which, in turn, are influenced by Information Quality, System Quality and Service Quality. The nomological structure of the respecified e‐commerce systems success model is concurred with that of the technology acceptance model (TAM) in the IS field and the consumer behaviour models in the traditional business‐to‐business and retail contexts. The findings of this study provide several important implications for research and practice. This paper concludes by discussing the contributions of this study and the limitations that could be addressed in future studies.
