This is an umbrella review protocol that seeks to explore a variety of educational technologies used to facilitate teaching patient safety. By understanding how educational technologies have been used in this field, we can evaluate their effectiveness, benefits, challenges, and ways to improve and optimize these approaches in order to improve educational outcomes and, consequently, the safety and quality of patient care. The objective was to map the applicability of digital technologies for teaching patient safety. It will follow the methodology of the Joanna Briggs Institute review manual, with searches in the Web of Science, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Embase, and SciELO databases, with the descriptors “Digital technology,” “Patient safety,” “Nursing students,” and “Medical students”. The aim is to identify the digital technologies that support the teaching of patient safety, understanding their applicability and effectiveness.

Artificial intelligence in human resource development: An umbrella review protocol.

The recent surge in artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly transformed work dynamics, particularly in human resource development (HRD) and related domains. Scholars, recognizing the significant potential of AI in HRD functions and processes, have contributed to the growing body of literature reviews on AI in HRD and related domains. Despite the valuable insights provided by these individual reviews, the challenge of collectively interpreting them within the HRD domain remains unresolved. This protocol outlines the methodology for an umbrella review aiming to systematically synthesize existing reviews on AI in HRD. The review seeks to address key research questions regarding AI's contributions to HRD functions and processes, as well as the opportunities and threats associated with its implementation by employing a technology-aided systematic approach. The coding framework will be used to synthesize the contents of the selected systematic reviews such as their search strategies, data synthesis approaches, and HRD-related findings. The results of this umbrella review are expected to provide insights for HRD scholars and practitioners, promoting continuous improvement in AI-driven HRD initiatives. Impact of Guided Endodontics on the Success of Endodontic Treatment: An Umbrella Review of Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses.

Endodontic treatment, essential for preserving teeth affected by pulp or periapical diseases, often encounters challenges such as complex root canal anatomies and calcifications that can hinder success. Traditional techniques, although effective, are limited in addressing these complexities. Guided endodontics, which utilizes advanced imaging and navigation technologies, promises enhanced accuracy and precision, potentially improving treatment outcomes. Thus, this umbrella review aims to assess whether guided endodontics influences the outcome of endodontic treatment by synthesizing evidence from multiple systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Comprehensive searches were conducted in PubMed, Scopus, EBSCOhost, and Cochrane databases to identify relevant studies. Additionally, grey literature was searched. The umbrella review protocol was developed and registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO) (CRD42024564150). Inclusion criteria comprised randomized controlled trials (RCTs), randomized clinical trials, case series, and case reports. Exclusion criteria included reviews, non-English language articles, in vitro studies, ex vivo studies, randomized experimental (in vitro) studies, narrative reviews, and expert opinions. Studies involving patients undergoing guided endodontic treatment with dynamic and static navigation systems were included. The interventions aimed at improving the accuracy and precision of endodontic procedures, particularly in challenging cases such as locating calcified canals and performing microsurgery. The study involved three reviewers who independently appraised the systematic reviews for eligibility, data extraction, and review quality. The quality of the systematic reviews was evaluated using the "A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews 2" (AMSTAR2) assessment tool. The methodological quality of the systematic reviews was assessed. A pooled review of the studies showed that guided endodontics demonstrated more precise and better results than conventional endodontic procedures.

Intervention combinations within multimodal prehabilitation and their effect on health-related quality of life, fatigue, and adherence in the adult cancer population: an umbrella review protocol.

This umbrella review will investigate intervention combinations that are provided as multimodal prehabilitation and their effect on health-related quality of life, fatigue, and adherence in the adult cancer population. Cancer and treatment-related long-term and late effects are a significant source of impairment worldwide. Multimodal prehabilitation has been the subject of intense research in recent years due to its potential to improve cancer treatment and surgical outcomes. Prehabilitation has been provided in different combinations of exercise, nutrition, and psychological support, although evidence of effectiveness varies in the literature. The review will consider quantitative and mixed methods (segregated approach) systematic reviews investigating the effectiveness of multimodal prehabilitation compared with any other or no intervention for adults with cancer (≥18 years). Systematic reviews focusing solely on unimodal prehabilitation or rehabilitation during or after cancer treatment will be excluded. This review will follow the JBI methodology for umbrella reviews. The following databases will be searched from 2001 onwards: MEDLINE, Emcare, PsycINFO, and AMED (Ovid); CINAHL (EBSCOhost); PEDro; Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews; and Epistemonikos. Backchaining and forward citation tracking will also be performed. Organizational websites will be searched for relevant gray literature. Two reviewers will perform title/abstract and full-text screening against the inclusion criteria, and disagreements will be resolved via discussion or a third reviewer. Relevant population, intervention, and outcome data will be extracted from included full-text documents, and the quality of reports will be determined using the JBI checklist for systematic reviews. The Impacts of Climate Change on the Emergence and Reemergence of Mosquito-Borne Diseases in Temperate Zones: An Umbrella Review Protocol.

Mosquito-borne diseases represent a global public health concern and are responsible for over 700 000 deaths globally every year. Additionally, many mosquito species have undergone a dramatic global expansion due to various factors, including climate change, and forecasts indicate that mosquito populations will persist in dispersing beyond their present geographic range, namely in temperate climates. The research literature on this topic has grown in recent years, including some systematic evidence synthesis. However, to provide a comprehensive overview of this growing literature needed for policy action, a summary of this evidence, including existing systematic reviews, is required. This study aims to undertake an umbrella review that explores the impacts of climate change on the emergence and reemergence of diseases transmitted by mosquitoes in temperate zones and the publication of the protocol is a fundamental step to ensure the credibility, transparency and reproducibility of this research. Studies published in scientific journals indexed by PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Epistemonikos, and Web of Science Core Collection to be included in this umbrella review will meet the following criteria: the topic of study (climate change and mosquito-borne diseases), regions (temperate zones), study designs (systematic reviews and meta-analysis), language (any) and date (since inception until December 31st, 2023). Titles and abstracts from selected articles will be evaluated by two authors independently and any discrepancy will be resolved through consensus or, if not possible, through a third author. The data will be extracted, and the risk of bias will be evaluated. The quality of the methodology of the included reviews will be assessed using AMSTAR 2. A narrative synthesis will examine the included systematic reviews. The quality of evidence for all outcomes will be judged using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation working group methodology.

Work-related musculoskeletal disorders in oral health professionals: an umbrella review protocol.

The objective of this review is to synthesize the evidence on the prevalence, incidence, risk factors, and preventive and management interventions for work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) in oral health professionals. Oral health professionals face a considerable risk of developing work-related MSD due to the nature of their work. These disorders can lead to loss of employment, reduced job quality, increased occupational injuries, and early retirement. They can also lead to significant financial burdens for employers and society. This umbrella review will include systematic reviews and meta-analyses that have oral health professionals as a population group and address at least one of the following topics: the prevalence or incidence, risk factors, and the efficiency or effectiveness of interventions for the prevention or management of work-related MSD. A systematic search will be conducted across CINAHL Complete (EBSCOhost), Dentistry and Oral Sciences Source (EBSCOhost), MEDLINE (EBSCOhost), Cochrane Library (Ovid), Scopus, PsycINFO (Ovid), AMED Allied and Complementary Medicine (Ovid), Epistemonikos, Ergonomics Abstracts Online (EBSCOhost), and Google Scholar (first 200 articles). The search will be limited to articles published in English, with no restrictions on geographical location. Two independent reviewers will screen the titles and abstracts against the inclusion criteria. The reviews will be assessed using the JBI critical appraisal instrument for systematic reviews and research syntheses, and data will be extracted from each review using a modified version of the JBI data extraction tool. A narrative summary and tables will be used to describe the review characteristics and findings. Results will be presented in a table using visual indicators (traffic light system) to represent beneficial, neutral, and negative effects with each risk factor and intervention. Umbrella review protocol: Global burden and risk factors of erectile dysfunction in diabetic population.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is no longer a whisper in the shadows; it's a rising tide threatening the sexual health of millions of men in different regions. This worrying trend shows no signs of slowing down, with projections claiming a staggering 322 million men globally could be affected in the near future. In the cases of diabetes, the condition worsens and has a potent cocktail of physical and psychological distress, chipping away at men's confidence, self-esteem, and mental health. This urgent issue demands immediate attention and action. Thus, this umbrella review intended to estimate the current burden of ED and associated risk factors among diabetic patients in the global context. Following PRISMA guidelines will be searched for relevant Systematic Review and Meta-analysis studies in PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Google Scholar. The quality of the included studies will be assessed using the new regress tool, the Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews 2 tool. To estimate the pooled prevalence of ED, we will employ a weighted inverse variance random-effects model. We will further conduct subgroup analyses, assess heterogeneity and publication bias, and perform sensitivity analyses to strengthen the robustness of our findings. Prediction intervals will also calculated to estimate the range within which future observations will likely fall. In all statistical analyses, the statistical significance will be declared at p value < 0.05. This umbrella review of systemic review and meta-analysis will be the first to systematically explore and integrate evidence regarding the burden of ED and associated risk factors in the diabetic population in a global context. By estimating the worldwide burden and identifying risk factors of ED in this population, the study will contribute to uncovering the hidden burden. Thereby, the issue will get international attention to reduce its consequences on the sexual health of the diabetic population. Besides, it will also provide input and direction for future research outlook.

Interventions to reduce inequalities for pregnant women living with disadvantage in high-income countries: an umbrella review protocol

BackgroundWomen who live with disadvantages such as socioeconomic deprivation, substance misuse, poor mental health, or domestic abuse face inequalities in health before, during, and after pregnancy and for their infants through to childhood. Women do not experience these factors alone; they accumulate and interact. Therefore, there is a need for an overview of interventions that work across health and social care and target women at risk of inequalities in maternal or child health.MethodsSystematic review methodology will be used to identify systematic reviews from high-income countries that describe interventions aiming to reduce inequalities for women who experience social disadvantage during pregnancy. We will describe the range of interventions and their effectiveness in reducing inequalities in maternal or child health. Any individual, hospital, or community-level activity specific to women during the pre-conception, antenatal, or postpartum period up to 1 year after birth will be included, regardless of the setting in which they are delivered. We will search eight electronic databases with the pre-determined search strategy and supplement them with extensive grey literature searches. We will present a narrative synthesis, taking into account the quality assessment and coverage of included studies.DiscussionInequalities in maternal and child health are a key priority area for national policymakers. Climate change, biodiversity loss, and Indigenous Peoples' health and wellbeing: a systematic umbrella review protocol.

Research that examines the intersections of Indigenous Peoples' health and wellbeing with climate change and biodiversity loss is abundant in the global scholarship. A synthesis of this evidence base is crucial in order to map current pathways of impact, as well as to identify responses across the global literature that advance Indigenous health and wellbeing, all while centering Indigenous voices and perspectives. This protocol details our proposed methodology to systematically conduct an umbrella review (or review of reviews) of the synthesized literature on climate change, biodiversity loss, and the health and wellbeing of Indigenous Peoples globally. A multidisciplinary team of Indigenous and non-Indigenous scholars will conduct the review, guided by an engagement process with an Indigenous Experts group. A search hedge will be used to search PubMed®, Scopus®, Web of Science™, CINAHL (via EBSCOHost®), and Campbell Collaboration databases and adapted for use in grey literature sources. Two independent reviewers will conduct level one (title/abstract) and level two (full-text) eligibility screening using inclusion/exclusion criteria. Data will be extracted from included records and analyzed using quantitative (e.g., basic descriptive statistics) and qualitative methods (e.g., thematic analysis, using a constant comparative method). This protocol outlines our approach to systematically and transparently review synthesized literature that examines the intersections of climate change, biodiversity loss, and Indigenous Peoples' health and wellbeing globally. Characteristics of creative individuals: An umbrella review protocol.

The properties of creative products-novelty and usefulness-are generally agreed upon by researchers. Yet, consensus is lacking on which personal and environmental factors contribute to an individual's creative potential, or to what extent. substantial research work has been conducted in this area, leading to the publication of many systematic reviews and meta-analyses collating the available evidence. However, many of these reviews have differing methodological and theoretical characteristics, and often report conflicting results. To summarize the current review literature on factors associated with creativity and better understand the similarities and discrepancies among reviews on the same topic, we plan to conduct an umbrella review of reviews. This protocol has been registered in Open Science Framework (DOI: 10.17605/OSF.IO/H78YS). We will search MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Web of Science, EMBASE, and Google Scholar for peer-reviewed reviews exploring factors associated with creativity. The quality of the included reviews will be assessed using the Risk of Bias Assessment Tool for Systematic Reviews (ROBIS), and the degree of study overlap across reviews assessed through calculation of the corrected covered area (CCA). Descriptive analyses will be performed to synthesize the results of the included reviews. We plan to use the results to create a holistic framework of the factors associated with creativity, which could be used to cross-validate existing creativity theories, or create new ones. The results of this umbrella review will be published in a relevant psychology-focused journal and presented at local, national and international conferences. As all data is peer-reviewed and presented in aggregate, we will not require ethics approval.

Effectiveness of mHealth interventions for improving health attendance: an umbrella review protocol.

The objective of this umbrella review is to assess the effectiveness of mobile health (mHealth) interventions for improving health care attendance. Health attendance is a critical part of health service delivery and is considered a behavior influenced by personal characteristics, service availability, nature of the treatment and consultation, and social determinants. Various interventions are available to foster good health attendance behavior, and mHealth interventions are one of the common go-to solutions; however, there is ambiguity regarding their effectiveness. Systematic reviews, with or without meta-analysis, that specifically examine the impact of mHealth interventions on health care attendance will be considered. The review will not be restricted to any particular disease, health problem, stream, or system of care, nor will it be limited by population characteristics (eg, age, gender, socio-economic status) or context (setting can be at any level of care). The JBI methodology for umbrella reviews will be followed, and MEDLINE (Ovid), Scopus, CINAHL, Cochrane Central, and JBI Evidence Synthesis will be searched for sources of evidence. Unpublished and gray literature sources, such as ProQuest Dissertations and Theses, OAIster, and Google Scholar, will also be searched. The review will be limited to English-language articles published from the inception of the databases to the present. Two independent reviewers will perform title, abstract, and full-text screening, while a customized data extraction form will be used for data extraction. The JBI critical appraisal checklist for systematic reviews and research syntheses will be applied. Certainty of evidence for health attendance outcomes will be assessed following GRADE approach. Determinants of Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health in Sub-Saharan Africa: Protocol for an Umbrella Review.

Adolescents are a large proportion of the population in sub-Saharan Africa and face multiple risks to their health and well-being. Prior systematic reviews have focused on specific adolescent sexual and reproductive health outcomes such as teen pregnancies, HIV/AIDS, and sexually transmitted diseases. A comprehensive synthesis of the influential factors that shape different aspects of adolescent sexual and reproductive health can inform health policy and program development for this important segment of the population. This paper presents the protocol for an umbrella review that aims to synthesize the existing knowledge in the literature on the associations among individual, family, and societal factors and sexual and reproductive health outcomes among adolescents in sub-Saharan Africa. We will include systematic reviews that identify factors associated with sexual and reproductive health outcomes among adolescents, 10-19 years of age, in sub-Saharan Africa. Reviews can include quantitative and qualitative primary studies with or without meta-analysis. Academic and gray literature searches will identify reviews from PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, ProQuest, Google, and Google Scholar. Two reviewers (MZG and KO) will independently carry out title, abstract, and full text screening, assess methodological quality, and extract data. We will assess the methodological quality of the included studies using the Joanna Briggs Institute standard forms. The review will present findings in narrative form and in tables and will follow PRISMA (the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) reporting guidelines. A preliminary search in April 2023 found 1351 articles to be screened. This umbrella review will permit a comprehensive and high-level understanding of the various factors that influence adolescent sexual and reproductive health in sub-Saharan Africa. Effectiveness of holistic assessment-based interventions in improving outcomes in adults with multiple long-term conditions and/or frailty: an umbrella review protocol.

This umbrella review will synthesize evidence on the effectiveness of holistic assessment-based interventions in improving health outcomes in adults (aged ≥18) with multiple long-term conditions and/or frailty. Health systems need evidence-based effective interventions to improve health outcomes for adults with multiple long-term conditions. Holistic assessment-based interventions are effective in older people admitted to hospital (usually called "comprehensive geriatric assessments" in that context); however, the evidence is inconclusive on whether similar interventions are effective in community settings. We will include systematic reviews examining the effectiveness of community and/or hospital holistic assessment-based interventions in improving health outcomes for community-dwelling and hospitalized adults aged ≥ 18 with multiple long-term conditions and/or frailty. The review will follow the JBI methodology for umbrella reviews. MEDLINE, Embase, PsycINFO, CINAHL Plus, Scopus, ASSIA, Cochrane Library, and the TRIP Medical Database will be searched to identify reviews published in English from 2010 till the present. This will be followed by a manual search of reference lists of included reviews to identify additional reviews. Two reviewers will independently screen titles and abstracts against the selection criteria, followed by screening of full texts. Methodological quality will be assessed using the JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist for Systematic Reviews and Research Syntheses and data will be extracted using an adapted and piloted JBI data extraction tool. The summary of findings will be presented in tabular format, with narrative descriptions and visual indications. The citation matrix will be generated and the corrected covered area calculated to analyze the overlap in primary studies across the reviews. PROSPERO CRD42022363217.

Oral appliance therapy for the management of obstructive sleep apnea in adults: an umbrella review protocol.

The objective of this review is to summarize the evidence on the effectiveness of oral appliance therapy compared with other therapeutic approaches (continuous positive airway pressure, maxillomandibular and upper airway surgeries, behavioral techniques) for the management of obstructive sleep apnea in adults. For primary snoring, mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea, and patients with a severe condition who are intolerant of continuous positive airway pressure therapy, an oral appliance is the treatment of choice among conservative procedures. The effectiveness of these appliances is largely determined by a variety of parameters, including the severity of sleep apnea (mild, moderate, severe), materials and methods used to fabricate the appliance, and the degree of mandibular protrusion. Thus, it is important to evaluate the effectiveness of oral appliances in the reduction of sleep apnea. This review will include systematic reviews of quantitative studies reporting on the effectiveness of oral appliances for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea of any severity, confirmed using polysomnography. The primary outcome will be measured by reduction in the apnea-hypopnea index. A search will be conducted of MEDLINE, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL, Epistemonikos, Embase, ProQuest Dissertations and Theses, and Shodhganga Dissertations and Theses from database inception until the present, with no language restrictions. Google Scholar will be searched manually. Two independent reviewers will screen titles, abstracts, and full-text articles and perform data extraction. Quality assessment will be conducted using the standard JBI critical appraisal tool. Data will be extracted from systematic reviews and a synthesis of the findings will be presented.
