The main areas of research of Bishop Sofron Mudryi in the history of the Church

The article analyzes the outstanding contribution of Bishop Sofron (Stepan) Mudryy of Ivano-Frankivsk to the development of theological thought of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in general and the study of the history of Ukrainian Christianity in particular. Through the analytical prism of biographical data about Bishop Sofron, the main milestones/stages of his formation as a full-fledged professional ecclesiological historian are outlined. Also taken into account and sufficiently considered are his key developments of historiographical nature and autobiographical memoirs of his own life, which allowed to synthesize a number of selected positions from the research heritage for a vivid presentation of the phenomenon of Bishop Sofon Mudryi as a follower of the classical Catholic concepts of theology of history.

Features of the educational process and formation of priests at the Ivano-Frankivsk Theological-Catechetical Theological Institute - Ivano-Frankivsk Theological Academy under the leadership of Bishop Sofron Mudryi

The article examines the peculiarities of the educational process and spiritual formation of seminarians - future priests of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church during the administration of Bishop Sofron Mudryi at the Ivano-Frankivsk Spiritual Seminary, the Ivano-Frankivsk Theological and Catechetical Institution, and later the Ivano-Frankivsk Theological Academy. This work highlights the important aspects of Bishop Sofron in ensuring the formation process, where he contributed to the comprehensive growth of future ministers. Also, the special efforts of the rector were analyzed, which were aimed at the high spiritual and intellectual education of seminarians following the example of European higher educational institutions. In addition, the article highlights a wide range of theological publishing activities of Sophron Mudryi, which were used by candidates for the priesthood to obtain quality theological education.

The building gift of Bishop Sofron Mudryi: Church-Education-Culture

Behind the scant encyclopedic information about Sofron Stefan Mudryi, whose 100th birthday we are celebrating, Bishop of Ivano-Frankivsk of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, there appears a majestic figure of a builder - a builder of the Church, education, and culture. Today we sincerely wonder how this man concentrated so much intelligence - not for nothing that he was called Mudryi (Sofron means prudent in Greek), so many talents, so much faith, so much love, so much efficiency, so much patriotism. Sofron Mudryi is one of the famous Ukrainians in the diaspora who made a fateful decision in 1991, immediately after Ukraine gained independence. They exchanged their measured, orderly life abroad for hard work - they began to revive/rebuild a free Ukraine. For many, this man is a symbol of the Christianity of a Ukrainian and the Christianity of a Ukrainian.

On the Contribution of Bishop Sofron Mudryi to the Development of Theological Education and Science of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church

The purpose of the article is to highlight the personal contribution of Bishop Sofron the Wise to the formation and development of theological education and science institutions during the period of revival and active development of the structures of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in independent Ukraine. Research methodology: involves the use of the biographical method to reveal the main stages of the life of Bishop Sofron Mudryi, as well as the method of structural and functional analysis to describe the processes of formation of both individual institutions and the integral system of theological education and science of the UGCC in Ukraine. The scientific novelty is that, based on the analysis of the latest research by national historians, the significant role of Bishop Sofron Mudryi in the process of restoring and developing theological education institutions of the UGCC in Ivano-Frankivsk, in the process of establishing the synodal program of theological education of the UGCC, and in the formation of the human resources of the UGCC through the training of specialists in various fields of theological science in Ukraine and abroad is substantiated.

UKRAINIAN AUTOCEPHALY IN NATIONAL AND GLOCAL CONTEXTS

The article focuses on the development of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) after receiving a Tomоs of Autocephaly. In particular, it briefly describes the structure of the Orthodox environment in Ukraine and distinguishes its key representatives as well as takes account of change in the configuration of the Orthodox map of the country after the formation of the ОCU. Special attention is paid to the institutional development and social activities of the ОCU, which include the formation of its religious network, the transition of parishes from the jurisdiction of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC MP) to the jurisdiction of the ОCU, and the establishment of the ОCU administrative and organizational structures. Interfaith dialogue between the ОCU and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) indicates that both churches are ready to jointly revive the Kyiv church tradition. The article also addresses the dynamics of confessional preferences of Ukrainians in the changing religious landscape of the country.
 The author argues that Ukrainian autocephaly is important for strengthening the humanitarian security of the state, leveling pro-Russian imperial messages in the national information space, as well as for comprehending the structural subordination of the UOC (MP) to the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC).
 The establishment of the OCU is analyzed in the article not only as a significant achievement in the post-Soviet and post-socialist space in the context of leaving the orbit of the Moscow Patriarchate, but also as an impetus for renegotiating relations in Ecumenical Orthodoxy.
 Autocephaly enabled the ОCU to become a subject of international church policy, to conduct a direct dialogue with other Orthodox churches, and to apply for participation in representative religious organizations. Recognition of the Autocephalous Church of Ukraine by the Church of Greece, the Patriarchate of Alexandria and all Africa and the Church of Cyprus significantly contributed to the ОCU's progress.
 The leitmotif of this article is ​​the destructive role of the ROC in Ecumenical Orthodoxy at large and their interference with the recognition of the ОCU by the other orthodox churches in particular. The author concludes that the future prospects of the ОCU will depend on the elaboration and implementation of its own development strategy.

Biographical dictionary of the clergy of the Stanislaviv (Ivano-Frankivsk) Eparchy - Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (1885–2020): methodology and research methods. Biograms for the letter "A", part 2

The purpose of the article is to continue the development of the methodology and research methods of the project of the biographical dictionary of the clergy of the Stanislaviv (Ivano-Frankivsk) Diocese - Metropolis of the UGCC (1885–2020), as well as the publication of the direct results of this research - biographical references (biograms) of some representatives of the clergy under the letter "A" . Research methodology: the biographical method is outlined as the main process of implementing this project, the main parameters of biogram formation are determined. The scientific novelty is that, based on the analysis of the latest research by domestic historians, the need to continue the scientific project of the biographical dictionary of the clergy of the Stanislaviv Diocese / Ivano-Frankivsk Metropolis of the UGCC (1885–2020) in the context of biographical and prosopographical research to expand knowledge about the place and role of the clergy is justified. in the national movement and social life of Ukrainians of this region, the source and historiographical research base was analyzed, the specifics of the formation of the list and publication of biographies of the clergy were clarified, the publication of the second part of the series of biographies (biographical notes) of representatives of the clergy of the Stanislaviv Diocese under the letter "A" was carried out. This publication includes biographies of such persons as Abrahamovych Andrii (Adam Zakharoii-Simkha) Yosyfovych (1885–1959), Abrahamovych Lonhina (Olha Rebeka) Yosyfivna (1886–1952), Abrahamovskyi Myroslav Mykhailovych (1908–1981), Abrysovskyi Lev (1880–1918?), Adam Ivan (1880–1936), Azarkevych Stefaniia (r. n. nevid.–r. sm. nevid.), Aksentii Antin Ivanovych (1878–1907), Aleksandrovych Anna (r. n. nevid.–r. sm. nevid.), Aleksandrovych Valeriian Vasylii (1875–r. sm. nevid.), Aleksandrovych Ivan (1835–1927), Aleksevych Yevhenii (1845–1897), Aleksevych Iliarii (1820–1895), Aleksevych Iliarii (1852–1915), Alymurka / Antymovych Stefan (1872–1932), Alyskevych Yulian Yosafat (1889–1984), Ambroziak Ivan (1884–1945?), Ananevych Omelian Yosafat Hryhoriiovych (1888–1964), Anastaziievskyi Mykola (1858–1918), Anhelovych Mykhailo (1817–1890), Andriievskyi Yosafat Yosyf (1900–1931?). Conclusions: Based on a significant source base, this project is primarily designed to create detailed biographies of the priests of this church unit, to fit them into the broader context of historical processes. At the end of the article, a reconstruction of several biographies of Greek-Catholic priests (with the letter "A") is presented, testifying to their active activity not only in the church and religious, but also in the political, public, economic and cultural spheres of the life of the Ukrainian people.

History of the Church in Ukraine: a bibliographic index of publications from the collections of the library of the Ivano-Frankivsk Academy of Ivan Zolotoustyi

The bibliographic index "History of the Church in Ukraine" reflects scientific and popular literature (monographs, textbooks, conference materials, collections) on this topic from the collections of the library of the Ivano-Frankivsk Ivan Zolotoust Academy. The index covers the history, activities, and role of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church from the times of Kyivan Rus to the present day, including the liquidation and underground of the UGCC after the Lviv Council of 1946, repressions against the clergy and confrontation with the Soviet system, and the period of revival in the late 80s and early 90s of the twentieth century.

Pilgrimages as one of the elements of the restoration of a vacation spot in the village of Krylos 1989-2018

This article is aimed at the research of the re-establishment of a sacred place in the Krylos village, Ivano-Frankivsk region in 1989-2018. There are still living witnesses of how people traveled from all over Galychyna to Krylos Mountaine in carts, on foot, and on horses. Hundreds of carts were beset the territory of the current village stadium and access roads. People wanted to pray to the miraculous icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and to drink miraculous water from the so-called "Franciskan springs". There are many confirmed facts about their miraculous qualities. The development of the sacred place began on December 12, 1989, according to the letter of Fr. Ivan Maslyak dated March 8, 1990, in which he noted the following: "...on December 12, 1989, the parish community of the village of Krylos, Galych district, Ivano-Frankivsk region, unanimously returned to the bosom of the ancestral Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, which is confirmed by the voting protocol of parishioners in the presence representative of the Galych district government". From this historical moment, the re-establishment of the abandoned, destroyed and completely ruined sacred place as well as the church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the village of Krylos, Ivano-Frankivsk region, begins. One of the important elements of the re-establishment of a sacred place is crowded pilgrimages. Based on the very meaning of the word, “pilgrimage” means the possibility of receiving forgiveness from God for our sins. This is why, for thousands of years, pilgrims from different countries have been making difficult and sometimes dangerous pilgrimages to holy places, asking Almighty God for forgiveness of sins. These are different places, such as: Rome, Turin, Jerusalem, Lourdes, Fatima, Medjugorje, Zarvanytsia, Goshiv, Pogonya, Krylos. In this research, I would like to analyze exclusively the verses to the “Galych Miraculous Icon”, which is kept in the village of Krylos, Ivano-Frankivsk district, Ivano-Frankivsk region. In this research, I would like to analyze three types of sacred places that influenced the development of a sacred place in the Krylos village (1989-2018), namely: 1. Youth parishes of the Ivano-Frankivsk Diocese; 2. International pilgrimage of the rosaries; 3.Patriarchal Pilgrimages to the Galych Miraculous Icon.

Systemic Discrimination of the Russian Orthodox Church in European Countries

This article examines and analyzes the discriminatory processes in Ukraine against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the discriminatory processes in the European Union countries against the Russian Orthodox Church. It specifi es the major publications highlighting the facts of discrimination against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Ukraine. The article also mentions the documents of the European Parliament, which have been used as the justifi cation for restricting the activity of the Russian Orthodox Church. These documents have become an aid for the introduction of unprecedented targeted sanctions against Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Russia by countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. Such gross interference by politicians in the activity of Orthodox churches is becoming the norm of political life in countries such as Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, as evidenced by the actions taken by the politicians of these countries and mentioned in the article. Moreover, the article fi gures out the understanding of the crisis in the international human rights movement with regard to rights and freedoms of religious organizations. The article highlights cases when Ukrainian human rights defenders became authors of anti-church laws, and the well-known Amnesty International human rights organization apologized for their report on the alleged war crimes by the Zelensky’s regime. Double standards in the assessment of off ense seriousness in Ukraine are clearly illustrated by the example of the fi rst three reports of the Monitoring Mission that was deployed in Ukraine in March 2014 by the Off ice of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. This mission was represented by more than 30 employees in fi ve Ukrainian cities: Kyiv, Donetsk, Odessa, Kharkiv and Lviv. These reports included a section dedicated to the observance of rights and freedoms of religious organizations in Ukraine. The article mentions the incidents recorded by the Monitoring Mission and the facts of discrimination against clerics and members of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church highlighted in mass media. It is noted that the Monitoring Mission recorded mainly cases of discrimination against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate, the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and other religious organizations. Violations of rights and freedoms of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church were not only ignored, but sometimes its activity was characterized in documents as “aggressive”.

From Catacombs to Freedom: Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Face of Socio-political Changes in Central and Eastern Europe (late 1980s – early 1990s)

The paper analyzes the details of the movement for legalizing the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) in the late 1980s and early 1990s, which acquired a special momentum in face of socio-political changes in the USSR and the other countries of Central and Eastern Europe. The UGCC, which was officially liquidated by the Soviet government in 1946, managed to form underground structures and continue pastoral activities. In the 1980s, the human rights organization Committee for the Protection of the Ukrainian Catholic Church (UCC) was formed and began to actively seek the official legalization of the UGCC. Western politicians and the Ukrainian diaspora became important factors influencing Soviet power. A combination of various factors, both internal and external, at the end of 1989 resulted in the authorities being forced to recognize the right of Greek Catholics to legally register their communities. Thus, a long ‘catacomb’ period came to an end and the UGCC received an opportunity to develop.

Religion in the Process of Nation-Building in Ukraine: Case Study on the UGCC and Military Chaplaincy

Priests of various faiths have tried to accompany Ukrainian soldiers as military chaplains since the very beginning of the fighting in eastern Ukraine. Finally, the Ukrainian parliament regularized the status of the military chaplaincy adopting a relevant law. Analyzing the process of shaping the chaplaincy allows us to better understand the place of religious communities and religion itself in the social life of post-Soviet Ukraine. It also allows for an examination of the nation-building process from a different and very interesting perspective. The article consists of three parts. The first one briefly presents the process of institutionalizing the military service of priests in Ukraine. In the next part, the significance of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church’s (UGCC) special activity in the field of military chaplaincy is demonstrated. The third part attempts to explain the reasons why the UGCC, despite a number of objective limitations, plays the leading role in the sphere of chaplaincy in Ukraine.

ЛЕКСИКО-СЕМАНТИЧНІ ОСОБЛИВОСТІ МОВИ УКРАЇНСЬКИХ ІНТЕРНЕТ-МЕДІА: РЕЛІГІЙНИЙ ВИМІР

<p><strong><em>The purpose</em></strong><em> </em><em>of the article is to determine the lexical and semantic features of messages on religious theme, the title complex in the Ukrainian segment of the Internet.</em></p><p><strong><em>Research methodology. </em></strong><em>According to the purpose of the research, a number of such methods was used: observation (to collect primary empirical materials), inductive-deductive (to define and describe the peculiarities of messages on religious topics and title complex); comparison, analysis, generalization.</em></p><p><strong><em>Results. </em></strong><em>The analysis has showed that messages of religious theme on media resources presented on the Internet are most often related to the life of Orthodox denominations (OCU and UOC MP) and the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church (UGCC). The title complex and the texts of messages often include verbatives with the same meaning of speech and those close to them: verbs of reporting and transmission of information (speak up, to speak, to say); verbs to indicate the content of speech (to tell, to explain); verbs of emotional attitude and evaluation (to condemn, to blame); verbs of speech influence (to call, to appeal). Most often, verbs of speech have a neutral meaning and are devoided of expressive coloring. Sometimes phraseme (idiom) and metaphors are used in the title complex. The use of stylistically elements and tropes is more characteristic of analytical genres: allusion, paronyms, oxymorons, occasionalisms. Metonymy prevails in informational genres. Expressive means of hate speech in the title complex are also not uncommon, in particular nicknames, slang, jargon, vulgar lexis. Publications also actively use the syntactic opportunities of the language, which are typical for online-resources, in particular, sentences in which the second part after the colon does not explain the meaning of the first one, but includes «hook phrase», the purpose of which is to «force» the reader to follow the hyperlink in order to learn more («what happened»; «explained the details»).<strong></strong></em></p><p><strong><em>Novelty </em></strong><em>is that the lexical and semantic features of messages on religious theme in the Ukrainian segment of the Internet have been determined.</em></p><p><strong><em>Practical significance.</em></strong><em> The results of the research can be used in a comprehensive investigation of religious journalism in Ukraine and as educational material in the training of future journalists.</em></p><p><strong><em>Key words:</em></strong><em> religious theme, title complex, verbs of speech,</em><em> </em><em>lexical and semantic groups, hate speech.</em></p>

Civil society of Western Ukraine and Europe in the context of the Ukrainian Holodomor events of 1932-1933

The article examines the Holodomor national tragedy of 1932-1933 in the context of the reaction to it by the population of neighboring Ukraine and more distant countries, as well as international organizations. It is emphasized that the Holodomor was a deliberate action of the communist authorities against the Ukrainian peasantry as a source of disobedience to the authorities and national resistance. It is shown that despite the efforts of the Bolshevik government to hide the glaring facts of the famine and the conformist support of the majority of foreign journalists accredited in the USSR, this information still received publicity in the world thanks to individual journalists of influential British newspapers and the work of foreign embassies and consulates in the USSR. It provoked a civil wave of help in various countries, but did not cause official condemnation of the Bolshevik policy by the member states of the League of Nations and the Catholic Church as an influential player in the international politics of the time. The role of public organizations and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the organization of assistance to illegal refugees from Ukraine and protest movements condemning the policy of the USSR towards Ukrainian peasants is considered. It was concluded that the first and subsequent recognitions of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine as genocide at the level of influential countries and international organizations, as well as the criminal proceedings carried out in Ukraine on the fact of committing the crime of genocide of 1932-1933 in Ukraine as a crime against humanity permit modern Ukrainians not only to consolidate the memory of the Holodomor as a significant historical narrative for the entire society, but also to re-understand this traumatic experience, renewing the nation and its values and outlook guidelines.

All Roads Lead to New Rome: The Canonical Origins and Status of the Orthodox and Greek Catholic Churches of Ukraine

This article provides a brief account of the historical origins and canonical status of the three modern Orthodox and Greek-Catholic churches of Ukraine: the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate, and the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church. It contains four parts. The first briefly recounts the origins of Byzantine Christianity and the fused form of state and church governance that developed in Constantinople from the 4th to the 15th centuries. The second examines the Great Schism of 1054, which cleaved Eastern and Western Christianity, sending Eastern Orthodox Christianity down the path of territory- or nation-based churches constituted by eucharistic ecclesiology; this would ultimately give rise to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate in the Slavic lands that would become Ukraine. The third part considers two modern schisms, the Little Schism of 1596, which produced the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, and the Final Schism of 2018–2019, which brought into existence the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. Drawing upon eucharistic ecclesiology, the final part offers brief concluding reflections concerning the ongoing implications of these three schisms for Orthodox Christianity in Ukraine.

Aspects of Ukrainian traditional conservatism

the article is devoted to the analysis of aspects of Ukrainian traditional conservatism in the context of sustainable development and information society. Possibilities of implementing the fundamental heritage of the domestic conservative school in political and social life are explored. It is proposed to consider the stages and basic concepts of scientific communication. Attention is paid to the historical connection between Galician conservatism and the ideology of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. The article deals with aspects of Ukrainian ideology of conservatism as a factor in the preservation of national identity in the information society.

The religious and legal dimension of the russian war against Ukraine against the background of social and state transformations xx—xxi centuries

The article defines the nature of the Russian war against Ukraine in the context of social and state transformations of the 20th — 21st centuries. It is emphasized that this is a war of different worlds, mentalities, worldviews, ways of life, values, etc., which has been going on for many centuries in various forms (direct and mediated, open and veiled, hot and cold). The role of the religious-legal factor in the Russian war against Ukraine at various stages of Ukrainian state formation (periods of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, Soviet, modern) is revealed. It is emphasized that it was during the time of the Ukrainian People’s Republic that the legal basis for the organization of the Ukrainian Local Orthodox Church, confessional differentiation and the establishment of freedom of conscience and interconfessional tolerance in Ukrainian society was created. Emphasized attention is paid to the fact that in the Soviet period, the Russian war against Ukraine continued in a new, veiled, hidden, invisible (at first glance) form with the active use of the religious factor. The results of this period have been determined, namely: rampant militant/ scientific atheism, radical extermination, Russification of Ukrainian Orthodoxy, liquidation of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, etc. Special attention is paid to the Soviet secular/political religion (Marxism-Leninism) as a key basis for the implementation of an aggressive policy regarding the historical memory and cultural identity of the Ukrainian people and a manipulative tool for the destruction of Ukrainian history, culture, worldview, nation, state and law in the information, hybrid, total, full-scale and other Russia’s wars against Ukraine. The article substantiates that improved legislation with an effective legal mechanism for its implementation, a strong civil society with developed institutions, including the institution of religion (church), adequate guarantees of religious rights and freedoms are important factors in ensuring state, national, religious security and victory of Ukraine (at the current stage) in the war waged against it by the Russian Federation.

Issues of war and defense of the motherland in the catechisms of the modern Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church

The article examines the provisions of the catechisms of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church regarding the war and its challenges, as well as the defense of the Motherland. A comparative analysis of relevant thematic instructions in the Catechism “Christ is our Easter” (published in 2011), the Catechism for youth “We walk with Christ” (published in 2021) and the “Catechism of the Christian Warrior” (published in 2022) was carried out. It was determined that the provisions of the UGCC's own fundamental doctrinal documents, its Catechisms, regarding the problems of war and defense of the Motherland, were formed, clarified and supplemented according to the circumstances and needs of the time. The catechism of the UGCC “Christ is our Easter” contains general Christian considerations on the subject under consideration, which are principled, establishing, and refer to how civilized peoples should conduct themselves. The catechism for youth, created in the previous years of the undeclared Russian Federation's “hybrid” war against Ukraine, covers the issues related to the war and the defense of the Motherland in a substantive way and closer to current Ukrainian realities, although it still has some idealistic approach. The Catechism of the Christian Warrior, the preparation of which was completed and the publication was carried out during the full-scale military offensive of the aggressor, is a set of thorough and competent advises for Ukrainian soldiers, where things are called by their names, and there are no provisions that can cause doubts due to experience and be problematically achievable for implementation. Therefore, it is concluded that especially this Catechism, together with and in addition to the two previous ones, is a useful and timely contribution of the UGCC to the instruction of Ukrainians during the war, and therefore to Ukraine's victory over the enemy.

The article examines the historical stages of formation, elaborates the current state and value-content support of radio initiatives of Ukrainian emigration using the example of the radio program "Ukrainian Time" (Montreal, Canada). Unique data from the first person was obtained during direct communication with the producer of the media initiative with more than thirty years of work experience, an active figure in the Ukrainian community S. Kuklevsky. The chronology of the continuous existence of the radio program from its foundation in 1963 by I. Oparyk and V. Gladun is traced; a meaningful contribution to its development by two generations of a creative team of talented authors headed by the current producer S. Kuklevsky. The names of the media activists involved in the creation of the radio program were included in the scientific media discourse: O. Onyshchenko, O. Shak (hosts), L. Gavrylov (information sector), N. Fedoseeva (journalist), priests of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Fr. I. Oschipko and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Fr. I. Kutash, producer S. Kuklevsky. The orientation of its authors to the implementation of convergent tools of modern radio broadcasting is characterized, in particular, the broadcast of issues on the channel of the same name on "Youtube" and information support and a page on the social network "Facebook". The high role and importance of the radio program as an integrator of the community around national values and the Ukrainian cause and the belief that only a powerful united community can have a successful, high-quality, long-term representation in the media space are determined. And in order to make the community like this, you need to be included in its life, it is not necessary to organize event attractions, but to join them, listen to programs, speak Ukrainian with children, sing our songs.

CONTRIBUTION OF WOMEN DISSIDENTS TO LEGALIZATION OF THE UGCC IN THE USSR

The article covers the history of the resistance of the members of the Ukrainian dissident movement to the totalitarian Soviet state, namely the struggle for the legalization of the UGCC, which was in the underground. It is noted that this activity has become an important element of the Ukrainian liberation movement for the restoration of statehood and protection of citizens' rights. Attention is focused on the achievements of women dissidents regarding the restoration of the "catacomb" UGCC, in particular, on the contribution of Olena Antoniv, Stefania Petrash-Sichko, Maria Gel, Olga Horyn, Iryna Kalynets, Stefania Shabatura, their human rights activities as participants in religious dissidence are analyzed. Their direct or indirect influence on the unification of society and the organization of the movement for the legalization of the Church is noted, their enormous work in the preparing and writing of appeals, protest statements, appeals to government officials, higher clergy and foreign politicians, is shown. Emphasis is placed on the concentration of women dissidents in organizing religious associations, protests, speeches and prayers among the Greek Catholic community, collecting signatures for the restoration of the UGCC and uniting representatives of the Greek Catholic clergy. The threats faced by representatives of religious dissidence, in particular repressions of the Soviet authorities, intimidation and arrests, are analyzed separately. At the same time, reminiscences of the participants of the Resistance movement as to their cooperation with other representatives of the dissident movement are highlighted. Also, their joint actions to restore the UGCC, their communication with friends and relatives, which encouraged them to continue struggle even at the time of their friends' arrests, are characterized. It is emphasized that due to the cooperation of representatives of the Greek Catholic clergy, Ukrainian society, which supported this movement, and dissidents, the UGCC was able to resume its activities.
