At particleboard's, OSB and MDF, the influence of instrumentation parameters and the sample geometry on the sound velocity was determined. The influence of sample width and sample thickness on the sound velocity was measured. With increasing the measuring frequency the sound velocity rises. By increasing the relative air humidity the sound velocity was found to decrease. Distinct differences in sound velocity exist between the individual materials types (chip board, OSB, MDF) as well as within the materials themselves. Thus the measurement of 7 types of particleboards brought different sound rates for all disk types. If this characteristic is to be used for quality control, assortment-specific relations are to be determined for each individual case.
