OPEN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT: THREATS AND OPPORTUNITIES

Systems of education are being simultaneously changed by both internal and external factors, with their modeling being far back than real-time challenges. Such a contradiction could be smoothened by making use of e-Environment to balance old-fashioned techniques and methods against crucial standards for knowledge and skills to be obtained and transformed into competences. Considering the blurred boundaries between traditional education and e-learning, it is essential that both threats and opportunities should be analyzed to find the most efficient ways for high educational performance with quality education possible. Thus, a strategic planning for refining the most efficient and productive models of teaching, learning, tutoring, coaching and mentoring is a vital part of future success. Quality education is ensured under e-Environment with freedom of choice and an egalitarian access to unlimited diversified open resources, for it facilitates personal and personality development when making a choice is the only factor that matters. The paper studies the advantages and disadvantages, threats and opportunities of OER development. The study analyses quality education ensured by open educational resources development, since OER are connected with an egalitarian access to unlimited information, which can benefit to the process of personality formation through realization of abilities, capabilities, wants and needs and sharing diversified experience to make this educational personality transformation the most efficient. Open educational resources provide with the ability to interpret the diversity which is literally the creation of personal realization of the variability of the modern world. Ensinar ciência com ciência: Reflexões de uma unidade curricular de investigação

In this work we present the results from a pedagogical approach that has been put intopractice with the optional module Bioactivity of Natural Matrices, which is delivered in the 1stsemester of the 5th year of the Integrated Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Faculty ofPharmacy of the University of Porto. This research module focuses on the study of the chemical composition and biological activity of several natural matrices. To each working group corresponds a different sample, being the students responsible for the literature review, planning and execution of the laboratorial work. By end of the semester, the students disseminate the results by delivering an oral presentation and written report in the form of a scientific paper, as well as a panel communication at the University’s annual young research meeting (IJUP). This curricular unit follows a tutorial model, with a student/teacher ratio of 3.6 that, in tandem with the continuous support by the pedagogical team, is translated in the excellent grades that are obtained. In summary, the students «learn by doing», an approach that contributes for their technical and scientific preparation, thus enabling them for entering fully prepared in the increasingly demanding work market.

Effective Tutorial Ontology Modeling on Organic Rice Farming for Non-Science & Technology Educated Farmers Using Knowledge Engineering

Knowledge of the appropriate technologies for sustainable development projects has encouraged grass roots development, which has in turn promoted sustainable and successful community development, which a requirement is to share and reuse this knowledge effectively. This research aims to propose a tutorial ontology effectiveness modeling on organic rice farming as an appropriate technology based on sustainable development projects for non-science and technology educated farmers using knowledge engineering approach, using Phrao District in Chiang Mai Province, Thailand as a case study. The effective tutorial ontology model focuses on social science and technology ontologies based on Thai’s curriculum of lower secondary school which provides biology, chemistry, math and physics concepts in order to effectively represent knowledge of the organic rice farming. The additional social science ontology knowledge developed in this research provides such a support to vocational learning and used by rural community in the case study to effectively navigate and utilize the appropriate technological knowledge of the sustainable development project knowledge to enhance their communities. The effectiveness of tutorial social science ontology in learning process was measured by counting and validating the average throughput of organic rice farming domain knowledge in learning process in terms of practicing domain knowledge, appropriate domain knowledge with their community and acquiring knowledge by themselves in both control and experimental groups. This study concludes by emphasizing the benefits of effective tutorial ontology modeling on organic rice farming for supporting knowledge transfer technique for non-science and technology educated farmers using knowledge engineering in the community of the case study to enhance their vocational lifelong learning. Ultimately, the tutorial ontology modeling in appropriate technology provides a knowledge transfer for non-science and technology educated farmers effectively.

UPAYA PENINGKATAN KEMAMPUAN SISWA KELAS X PROGRAM KEAHLIAN TEKNIK BANGUNAN DENGAN MODEL TUTOR SEBAYA (PEER TUTORING) PADA MATA PELAJARAN GAMBAR TEKNIK DI SMK N 5 SURAKARTA

<p align="center"><strong>ABSTRACT</strong></p><p>The purpose of this study was to determine: (1) Improving student learning outcomes in subjects Engineering Drawing by using Peer Tutoring learning model in class X Civil Engineering Program in SMK N 5 Surakarta. (2) The effectiveness of the application of the Peer Tutoring learning model in subjects Engineering Drawing in class X Civil Engineering Program SMK N 5 Surakarta.</p><p> </p><p>This study is a classroom action research conducted in class X Civil Engineering Program in SMK N 5 Surakarta with 31 students. This study was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of a phase of implementation, observation and reflection. The instrument used in this study consisted of a test of learning outcomes and assessment sheets of observation. Test the data validity by using member check and analyze data by using interactive analysis, which consists of: data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions or verification.</p><p> </p><p>The results research with Peer Tutoring model indicate improvement of cognitive is 15.49%; psychomotor domains is 20.26%; affective is 20%; and effectiveness of learning increased up to 8.52%.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Key word</strong> : Peer Tutoring, Learning outcomes, and Effectiveness</p>

Application of Computer Based Learning Model Tutorial as Medium of Learning

This study aimed to describe the application of computer-based learning tutorial models in presenting learning materials. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach in the form of assignment to students about the application of computer-based learning tutorial model as a medium of learning by using portfolio assessment. This research was conducted on students of Islamic religious education (PAI) in class III A, B and C odd semester 2014/2015 who take courses learning media. Assessment used in this study is an assessment portfolio because of: 1) the assessment should be based on the work / student work, 3) assessment include cognitive, affective and psychomotor student. Provides an overview of research results by applying a computer-based learning tutorial models are more motivated students in receiving and delivering the material because it is more varied and not monotonous at a lecture course, in addition to the students to be more creative in the presentation of the material. With the tutorial models are abstract concepts that can visualized more concrete so that learning becomes more meaningful.

Integrated Peer Teaching of Communication and Clinical Skills: How to Train Student Tutors?

This paper describes the theory-based development of a standardized training model for peer tutors. The aim is to qualify tutors to teach communication skills integrated with practical clinical skills, to medical students in the pre-clinical curriculum. As a result, students are encouraged to form a basic understanding of the biopsychosocial model of diseases early in their studies. The training model's design is based on the Kern model for curriculum development as adapted by McLean et al., who outlined the following steps: planning, implementation, and evaluation/feedback. Our focus is on development, review of feasibility, and evaluation as measured by the subjectively perceived effectiveness of the implemented training model. 2 target groups were considered: the peer tutors and the student tutees. In 2009, a 3-step training model consisting of 12 units was developed, based on the theory of patient-centered communication and the biopsychosocial model. The training was rated very positively on a 5-point Likert scale by all tutors at 2 points in time: t1 (directly after training) and t2 (after conducting 2 tutorials) (t1: M=1.67; SD=±0.86; t2: M=1.75; SD=±0.71). On a 6-point Likert scale, the tutees also evaluated their communication and clinical skills as being significantly better after completing the 10 tutorials (t2: scale for interaction and communication: M=4.81; SD: 1.09; scale for clinical examination: M=4.99; SD: 0.85) than before the tutorials (t0: scale for communication and interaction: M=3.18; SD=1.15; scale for clinical examination: M=2.88; SD: 1.09). By implementing a standardized tutor training model, one can qualify peer tutors to teach communication skills integrated with practical clinical skills during the pre-clinical phase. Practice teaching of the curricular material via role playing, tutorial simulation and an extensive feedback session, along with the definition of clinical standards for recording case histories and performing examinations, have proven themselves to be core elements of effective tutor training.

The paper analyzes new types of professional activities of modern teachers, set up by the �Pedagogue� Professional Standard and the Federal State Educational Standard. Present-day teachers� work should meet such standardization requirements, as skills to design pedagogical objects and to employ pedagogical technologies; acquaintance with theories of educational processes management and ways to achieve relevant educational outcomes. The author suggests and considers the model of full-cycle technological textbook, where the above-mentioned innovative requirements get appropriate design and implementation. The tutorial shows how the overall process for developing the set of competencies, introduced by the Federal State Educational Standard of Higher Education, is modeled. The tutorial model also provides technological guidelines to monitor the quality of competences developed. Further, the paper describes the technological tutorial module structure, specifying that each module is oriented on developing certain professional competencies. Along with the tutorial the package includes DVD with the system for automatic processing of results obtained through diagnostics.

Tutor choice and imitation accuracy during song learning in a wild population of the Puget Sound white-crowned sparrow

Songbirds learn to sing by modeling their songs on the songs of other males through a process of social learning. Models of social learning predict that animals should be selective in what and when they learn. In this study, we asked whether young males in a wild population of the Puget Sound white-crowned sparrow, Zonotrichia leucophrys pugetensis, were selective in their choice of tutor models and what factors influenced how accurately they imitated tutors’ songs. We first examined two strategies for tutor choice: whether pupils have a conformity bias and/or a preference for high-quality tutors. In keeping with a conformity bias, tutors that sang song types that were relatively common within a radius of about 500 m of their territory were more likely to be imitated than were tutors that sang rarer song types. Most potential tutors were not imitated by pupils. Aspects of tutor quality, such as age, pairing status, and survival to the next year had no effect on whether a tutor’s song was imitated. Secondly, we tested whether pupil repertoire size, pupil quality, and local abundance of tutor models affected the accuracy of song imitations. We found a trade-off between repertoire size and tutor imitation accuracy with males that sang two or more song types developing significantly poorer imitations than males that sang one type. We discuss possible functions of a conformity learning strategy and factors that could produce a trade-off between imitation accuracy and repertoire size.

PENGEMBANGAN Computer Assisted Instruction MODEL TUTORIAL UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KEPEKAAN ANAK TERHADAP ALAM SEKITAR

This study aimed to develop a Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) with tutorial model, in shaping students’ sensitivity to the surrounding environment on the local content of Environmental Education which was developed to improve students’ attitudes toward the environment. If the goal of EE is concerned with changes in the attitudes, the Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) Model Tutorial contains learning that can be taken to expose students to environmental problems that exist, then proceed with value clarification, the students are given the opportunity to assess the conditions, make a choice of available solution alternatives and determine the trouble shooting steps that are reinforced by increasing the sample by the CAI program. Therefore, its use is expected to counter environmental issues, particularly fundamental change of students’attitudes toward the environment. This study used employed the research and development method with evaluative models, and experimental research method that is used to produce a particular product in this case Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI).

Tuesdays with an Open and Distance Learning mentor

Tuesdays with Morrie is a 1997 non-fictional book by an American writer, Mitch Albom, which was later made into a film with the same title. It tells the true story of sociologist Morrie Schwartz and his relationship with Mitch Albom as his protégé. When the professor is diagnosed with a terminal disease, Mitch begins to visit him at home and soon realises that although he has grown remarkably since he was at university, he still has a lot to learn about life. Students in an open and distance learning environment usually reside far away from the institution and often feel alienated when starting with the higher education learning process. For this article, the authors conducted an empirical research on e-mentorship in general and revisited the institutional tutor model on why students fail repeatedly. Furthermore, by observing mentor relationships an action plan is proposed for an e-mentor relationship in order to establish if such a relationship could be built on Johnson and Aragon's Framework for Online Learning Environments; what it should look like, how it should be contracted and which principles come into play in this endeavour. This article is reworked by the authors from the conference proceedings with the same title that was published on www.interdiscipinary.net in 2011.

Designing an Adaptive Distributed Tutoring System based on Students' Learning Style and Collaborative Learning using Intelligent Agents

This study developed an adaptive distributed tutoring system targeting on students’ learning style and collaborative learning. The system is composed of intelligent agents which plays a definite role in making the system adaptive using the association rule mining and fuzzy C-means clustering. This agent oriented system is modeled using Tropos for a consistent development. The system is composed of a student model, a tutor model and a system model. The adaptation is derived into three levels of adaptation namely user level adaptation, user interface level adaptation and system level adaptation. In the user level adaptation, the system would adaptively recommend contents with variety of contents based on the individual learning behavior and overall performance of the students. The user interface level adaptation would allow the user to personalize the user-interface based on his/her own likeliness. Our system would persist the personalization in the user interface and whenever user logs in to the system, the personalized user-interface is presented. The system level adaptation would store/replicate contents in the distributed environment which is based on the current system disk space and memory available in the system. A total of 144 students had been taken in our study with Java as the course. The experimental result reveals various styles of the user and how the individual performance varies from the group. The results also provide an evidence of the system could increase learning factor of the students.

PENGEMBANGAN MEDIA PEMBELAJARAN MULTIMEDIA MODEL TUTORIAL PADA MATA PELAJARAN ANIMASI 3 DIMENSI UNTUK SISWA KELAS XII PROGRAM KEAHLIAN MULTIMEDIA DI SMK NEGERI 3 SINGARAJA

This research aimed at: (1) developing tutorial model as a media in multimedia learning of 3-D animation subject to the xii grade students of multimedia program in SMKNegeri 3 Singaraja, (2) knowing the students response of developing tutorial model as a media in multimedia learning of 3-D animation subject to the xii grade students ofmultimedia program in SMK Negeri 3 Singaraja. The subject of this research was 34 students of the xii grade multimedia program inSMK Negeri 3 Singaraja in the academic year 2009/2010. This research had been done as adevelopment research. The obtain data were collected through the questionnaire in order to get the students’ response on developing tutorial model as a media in multimedia learning of3-D animation subject. This data were then analyzed descriptively.The results of the analysis showed that the students’ response on developing tutorial model as a learning multimedia media in 3-D animation subject spread on some categories of77% very positive, 23% positive, 0% doubt, 0% negative, and 0% very negative. The averagestudents’ response score was 82.80 that mean that the students’ response was categorized very positive.

Hacia un nuevo proyecto de Tutoría Universitaria en el Espacio Europeo De Educación Superior = Towars a new Proyect of Tutoring Plan into The European Program of Higer Education Area

It is necessary to improve the tutorshiping function in the Higer Education in order to obtain a way that the tutoring can have a clear and satisfactory role of the tutorial as for the teacher staff as for the students. This project is aimed the target is to set up build a personalized tutoring model integrated into the context and with university students features as well as fitted the specific characteristics of every University. We attempt pretend to carry out make a classification systematization of its benefits strong points in order to implement a Tutorial Action Plan. This changes of the tutorship’s effectiveness and consideration is needed and it should be promoted by the universities themselves. The tutorship is considered as a basic strategy for any model of the students’ learning

Rancang Bangun Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) Sebagai Media Pembelajaran Dalam Mata Pelajaran Fisika Sekolah Menengah Atas

Strategy of using of Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) as learning media is needed for solving problems that rise in learning process. Good learning packaging give positive effect in improving human potency. CAI as learning media based on computer microprocessor is built as complement and support learning method that usually use lecturing method, information discussion, and presentation. The goal of this research is design and build interactive learning media CAI by multimedia technology. Result of this research is CAI visualisation by tutorial model and simulation as physics learning media by computer for senior high school students, XI Grade. This research involve a number of 8 teachers and 90 student XI Grade as respondents. Respondents questionnaire result show that 91.11% of students state that CAI product is qualified, 75.11% of students state that material presentation are qualified, 95.11% of students state that CAI program can increase study motivation. A K-complementarity Technique for Forming Groups of Tutors in Intelligent Learning Environments

In e-learning environments, tutors perform the main function of tutoring. They follow up learners and answer their assistance requests which require different skills. These requests may not belong to the tutors’ skills and competencies, so collaboration among other tutors is expected. In fact, this collaboration can improve tutors’ skills and provide learners with effective monitoring. It can be permanent and adaptive, according to learners’ needs and requests. Grouping tutors with different skills is the aim of this research. In this paper, a new technique for grouping tutors is presented. The proposed technique is called K-complementarity. It is based on the complementarity of roles that are assigned to tutors. K-complementarity is based on tutor model and aims at obtaining K groups of tutors who have the most of the roles and skills. The proposed technique has been used by a Computer-Supported Collaborative Tutoring (CSCTT) system. This system had been tested in an Algerian University. The obtained results showed that the groups’ members are heterogeneous and the groups are homogeneous. Furthermore, each group had more than 80% of the roles by combining those of its members. So, these results can be considered as acceptable and very encouraging.

UPAYA MENINGKATKAN HASIL DAN AKTIVITAS BELAJAR KETERAMPILAN BERMAIN SERULING RECORDER MELALUI MODEL PEMBELAJARAN TUTOR SEBAYA PADA SISWA KELAS IX A SMP NEGERI 2 COMAL

Status quo shows thatthe skills to play flute recorder for grade IX students are still low. It can be seen from the score of their test results in which only 15 out of 29 students can score >75 (34.09%) with the average score of 68, 00. This is caused by students behavior during the learning process which did not meet teacher’s expectations. The results shows that the learning model of peer tutoring can: 1) Improve students learning activities in playing flute recorder for grade IX A students of ComalJunior High School 2, academic year of 2011/2012. This is proven by the fact that out of 44 students who achieved lower score on pre-cycle activity (mean 2,19) managed to improve by the end of the second cycle (mean= 3,48) and cosidered as having good qualification. 2) Improve students skills of playing flute recorder . This is proven the increase in the percentage of students passing grade from only 29.55% in the pre cycle activityto 79.55% by the end of the second cycle activities.

Developing Competency Model to Promote Tutor’s Ability and Qualities in China

A competency model of tutoring in China is described and established. Emphasis is placed on the assessment of a tutor’s sense of competence across different domains, instead of viewing perceived competence as a unitary construct. The results show that significant characteristics for an effective tutor include: personal charisma, emotional stability, ability to think clearly, patience, aptitude for training others and an affinity for the work. The validity of the empirical validity and copy reliability of the competency model are tested. Emphasis is placed on its factorial validity. Each subscale defines a separate factor. The factor structure is extremely stable. The scale is viewed as an alternative to those existing measures of questionable validity and reliability. Providing the detailed methods and details of most characteristics, the results will be significant for the training and development of tutors in China.

Diseño e instrumentación de una tutoría de asignatura en el programa de licenciatura en Sistemas de Información Administrativa de la Universidad de Guanajuato

This work shares the results of research targeted at the design of tutorial intervention within the degree program for Administrative Information Systems of the Guanajuato University in accordance with a new tutoring model called Subject tutoring. It is based on a diagnosis performed among students of this academic program to identify the expectations and defects with regard to their professional training and it designs a series of academic activities related to administrative information systems, including subjects that currently are not part of the curriculum such as Business intelligence, Balanced Scorecard and software development for mobile devices. The ensuing intervention has advanced the transformation of the tutorial work that changed from actions based on the reactions of professors in face of personal issues, called Accompanying tutoring, towards a new form of tutoring based on academic and professional training actions, identifed as Subject tutoring.
