Structural properties of pure and doped (CH) x , prepared by the method of Shirakawa, are reviewed. Materials are characterized by their structural features (disorder crystallinity, homogeneity of the doping) which can influence electrical properties. Cis to trans isomerization process observed either upon thermal annealing or upon doping is presented on structural basis. New structures in which dopant interculates in columns or layers within the (CH) x host lattice are also considered.
