Research on basketball footwork recognition based on a convolutional neural network algorithm

ObjectiveThe purpose of this paper is to utilize a convolutional neural network (CNN) to identify the types of basketball footwork of athletes as a way to assist in the training of basketball players' footwork and to improve their performance in the game. MethodsA traditional CNN algorithm was improved to a dual-model CNN (DMCNN) algorithm, where convolutional feature extraction was performed separately on both the acceleration and angular velocity data of footwork. The two features were then merged and subjected to principle component analysis (PCA) dimensionality reduction for identifying different types of footwork. In subsequent simulation experiments, ten basketball players' footwork data were collected using sensors. The improved CNN algorithm was used for footwork recognition and compared with the support vector machine (SVM) and traditional CNN algorithms. ResultsThe experimental results showed that the acceleration and angular velocity signals of different basketball footwork had distinct differences. The comprehensive recognition precision of DMCNN for footwork types was 98.8 %, and the comprehensive recall rate and overall F value were 97.8 % and 98.2 %, respectively. Its recognition time was 1.23 s. For the traditional CNN algorithm, the comprehensive precision was 87.5 %, the comprehensive recall rate was 85.7 %, and the overall F value was 86.6 %. Its recognition time was 1.99 s. As for the SVM algorithm, the comprehensive precision was 74.2 %, the comprehensive recall rate was 73.2 %, and the overall F value was 73.7 %. The recognition time was 3.68 s. NoveltyThe novelty of this article lies in using two separate CNNs to extract convolutional features from acceleration and angular velocity, respectively. These features are then combined and reduced dimensionality using PCA, thereby improving both recognition accuracy and efficiency.

Improving the methodology of shooting the ball in the basket using exercises in asymmetrical direction in the movement of 12-14-year-old basketball players

The basic use of exercises of an asymmetric orientation is to improve the methods of teaching throwing the ball into the basket in motion to basketball players 12-14 years old. In basketball, increased activity during the competition period, and even the intensity of defense dramatically increase the value of gears in motion. The necessity of throwing the ball into the basket, performing attacks from different distances, the importance and improvement of methods of sports training are currently increasing even more. One way to solve this problem is to take into account the influence of functional asymmetry, which is effective in the process of shooting the ball into the basket in motion. We can see in the studies that the peculiarities of the manifestation of asymmetry as a tool in the training of basketball players have shown that its actuality. Therefore, the improvement of functional asymmetry is relevant in the process of technical training of young basketball players aged 12-14 years, taking into account the individual profile. As a result of our research, we found the use of asymmetrically oriented exercises in training sessions, and this process had a positive impact on the effectiveness of technical actions performed by a weak hand.

Effectiveness of Eccentric Overload Training in Basketball Players: A Systematic Review.

Several studies have confirmed the efficacy of flywheel eccentric overload training in order to improve or increase muscle volume and strength, as well as several performance-related fitness attributes, but to date, there are no studies that have reviewed the effects of these training methods in basketball. Therefore, the present systematic review aimed to collect the updated information about the influence of flywheel training on performance of basketball players. A search in four electronic databases (PubMed, SCOPUS, Web of Science, and Google Scholar) was conducted up to November 20, 2022. Articles were selected as valid for review if: (i) they were an experimental trial published in English; (ii) participants were basketball players without illnesses or injuries, and (iii) a rotational inertial overload method was used as a performance-dependent variable. A total of 93 articles were found. After filtering procedures, only seven studies were considered in this systematic review. In the selected studies, 203 participants were included, 58 females and 145 males. Focusing on basketball related performance variables, all the studies included the countermovement jump (CMJ), while five included sprinting and a change of direction test (COD). The results showed an improvement in performance-related variables associated with basketball (sprint, CMJ, and COD) through the use of inertial methods. Improvements were reported in professional, semi-professional and amateur players as well as both male and female players. However, given the low number of studies, additional investigations on this topic are warranted before a "clear picture" can be drawn concerning the effects of flywheel eccentric overload training in basketball players.

Investigation of the effect of training on serotonin, melatonin and hematologic parameters in adolescent basketball players.

Exercise can improve both health and mood. Some beneficial effects of exercise are attributed to endocrine status. This study aims to evaluate the effect of eight weeks of basketball training on melatonin, serotonin, and hematologic parameters in basketball players. The experimental group was selected form 34 healthy young boys, aged between 13 and 16 years old. The participants were randomly assigned to the control group (n=17) and the exercise group (n=17). The exercise program consisted of 2h/day aerobic activity of basketball training in 5 days a week for 8 weeks. Venous blood was taken on the day before experiment (pre-exercise) and on the day following the last exercise (post-exercise) and hormone levels were detected by ELISA. Serotonin and melatonin levels significantly increased in the post-exercise group compared to the other groups (p<0.05). Exercise caused increase in WBC, RBC, HCT and Hb levels (p<0.05) while did not alter PLT, MCH, and PCT levels (p>0.05). This study indicates that an eight weeks-long regular aerobic exercise increased melatonin and serotonin levels, and also altered some hematological parameters. In conclusion, it is believed that improvement in levels of serotonin, melatonin, and hematological parameters after eight weeks of regular basketball training in basketball players could be attributed to beneficial effects of exercise. Investigation in other branches of sports and in different gender and age groups would make contribution into exercise physiology and training science.

Features of sports selection of basketball students

The article defines the main criteria for sports selection in basketball. The features of selection in the system of long-term training of basketball players in Ukraine and abroad are analyzed. Based on the analysis of the literature in this area, the main criteria for sports selection at the initial stage of training basketball students have been established. Basketball in our country continues to gain more and more popularity as a spectacular and emotional kind of sports games. Modern trends in the development of basketball require Ukrainian athletes to fully realize their game potential. It is known that the preliminary stage, followed by a chain of pedagogical and organizational means of a long-term training system, is the selection of young athletes. The quality of the first stage of selection depends on the effectiveness of solving the problems of the next stages of sports training of basketball players, as well as the full implementation of the existing talents of children in sports abilities.

Interval and Continuous Training for Resting Pulse and Cardiovascular Enhancement of Students

Basketball games are played for 40 minutes divided into 4 quarters, where one quarter is 10 minutes. To play the game of basketball requires having excellent stamina which can be seen from the value of VO₂ Max. There are various types of exercises to improve VO₂ Max, such as interval training and continuous training. The purpose of this study: is to determine the difference in effect between interval training and continuous training on VO₂ Max on basketball players in extracurricular students at Senior high school 2nd Pasuruan City. Research methods: This study used the Pre and Post Test two Groups Design design, with a sample of 12 basketball players as an interval training group, and 12 players as a continuous training group taken using a purposive sample technique. The exercise is done 3 times a week for 8 weeks. Measurement of VO2 Max uses a Multistage fitness test. Data analysis using the comparative test Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test and Mann Whitney test. Results: The difference between pre-test and post-test in the interval training group was 9.94 while in the continuous training group it was 6.02. Based on the test of the effect of interval training on VO₂ Max, the value of p = 0.008 was obtained and the test of the effect of continuous training on VO₂ Max was obtained p value = 0.005. Based on the different test of the effect of interval training and continuous training on VO₂ Max, the value of p = 0.040 is concluded. Conclusion: interval training and continuous training can increase VO₂ Max. interval training increases VO₂ Max more than continuous training in basketball players in extracurricular curricular students at Senior high school.

Monitoring the effectiveness of the use of the BOSU hemisphere in the process of supporting physical training of basketball players in the stage of preparation for higher achievements

Auxiliary physical training is responsible for creating the preconditions for successful special fitness of athletes and should be aimed at improving, raising the level and coherence in the performance of leading functional systems in terms of both training and competitive activities.&#x0D; The article is devoted to the analysis of the results of stage control of the special fitness of basketball players of 17-20 years under the influence of the content of auxiliary physical training, which consisted of a set of tools aimed at improving the level of coordination, power, speed-power and speed qualities of basketball players using the BOSU hemisphere.&#x0D; The purpose of the study was to monitor the fitness of basketball players at the stage of preparation for higher achievement before and after the introduction of the content of assisted physical training using the BOSU hemisphere.&#x0D; We have developed a set of exercises in supportive physical training. The exercises were performed using the repeated method, the “failure-to-do” method, the circular training method. In addition, when exercises of physical and technical-tactical orientation were combined, the methods of combined influence and modeling were applied.&#x0D; The implementation of stage control by means of control testing before and after the pedagogical experiment made it possible to determine a reliable increase in the indicators of the basketball players' physical fitness in all tests, which led to the improvement of the indicators of competitive activity.

High-velocity elastic-band training improves hamstring muscle activation and strength in basketball players.

The aim of this study was use surface EMG activity to assess changes in co-activation of knee flexors and extensors muscle groups during elastic-band exercise after 5 weeks of high-velocity elastic-band training in basketball players. College male basketball players (N.=18) were randomly divided into one of two groups: 1) the elastic-band training group performed low-load and high-velocity - lying prone - hamstring curls training three times per week; 2) the control group did not do any training. Pre- and post- training assessment included concentric knee extension and flexion at 60°/s and 240°/s, and the frequency of knee flexion and extension with elastic bands in the prone position. The EMG of the rectus femoris, semitendinosus muscles and the long head of the biceps femoris were assessed during these activities, and 30-m sprint running speed was measured from a stationary start and a running start. It was shown that high-velocity elastic-band training was 1) feasible, 2) increased movement velocity and 3) muscle strength, 4) altered neural control such that excessive lengthening of the hamstring muscle, and hence strain-injuries, may be prevented and 5) improved sprint performance in basketball players. These results suggest that high-velocity elastic-band training may be a tool to prevent hamstring strain-injuries in basketball players.

Effects of Ball Drills and Repeated-Sprint-Ability Training in Basketball Players.

Purpose: To investigate the effects of ball drills and repeated-sprint-ability training during the regular season in basketball players. Methods: A total of 30 players were randomized into 3 groups: ball-drills training (BDT, n = 12, 4 × 4min, 3 vs 3 with 3-min passive recovery), repeated-sprint-ability training (RSAT, n = 9, 3 × 6 × 20-m shuttle running with 20-s and 4-min recovery), and general basketball training (n = 9, basketball technical/tactical exercises), as control group. Players were tested before and after 8 wk of training using the following tests: , squat jump, countermovement jump, Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 1(YIRT1), agility T test, line-drill test, 5-/10-/20-m sprints, and blood lactate concentration. A custom-developed survey was used to analyze players' technical skills. Results: After training, significant improvements were seen in YIRT1 (BDT P = .014, effect size [ES] ± 90% CI = 0.8 ± 0.3; RSAT P = .022, ES ± 90% CI = 0.7 ± 0.3), the agility T test (BDT P = .018, ES ± 90% CI = 0.7 ± 0.5; RSAT P = .037, ES ± 90% CI = 0.7 ± 0.5), and the line-drill test (BDT P = .010, ES ± 90% CI = 0.3 ± 0.1; RSAT P < .0001, ES ± 90% CI = 0.4 ± 0.1). In the RSAT group, only 10-m sprint speeds (P = .039, ES ± 90% CI = 0.3 ± 0.2) and blood lactate concentration (P = .004, ES ± 90% CI = 0.8 ± 1.1) were improved. Finally, technical skills were increased in BDT regarding dribbling (P = .038, ES ± 90% CI = 0.8 ± 0.6), shooting (P = .036, ES ± 90% CI = 0.8 ± 0.8), passing (P = .034, ES ± 90% CI = 0.9 ± 0.3), rebounding (P = .023, ES ± 90% CI = 1.1 ± 0.3), defense (P = .042, ES ± 90% CI = 0.5 ± 0.5), and offense (P = .044, ES ± 90% CI = 0.4 ± 0.4) skills. Conclusions: BDT and RSAT are both effective in improving the physical performance of basketball players. BDT had also a positive impact on technical skills. Basketball strength and conditioning professionals should include BDT as a routine tool to improve technical skills and physical performance simultaneously throughout the regular training season.

At the present stage of development, basketball as a team game is gaining more and more fans. Basketball is characterized by a large number of techniques performed in rapidly changing conditions. In the process of long-term training of basketball players should pay special attention to their preparedness. Modern basketball requires players to acquire high levels of physical, technical and tactical readiness, and for this it is necessary to carry out a rational and effective training process. Consequently, tracking the dynamics of preparedness of female basketball players allows to have a more complete picture of their preparedness and the possibility of timely adjustment of the training process. For the correct assessment of athletes preparedness, it is necessary to select the tests differing in the informativeness. In this study, we conduct testing with female basketball players engaged in the training stage. The tests were aimed at measuring technical and physical readiness. To identify the dynamics, testing in the group was carried out three times. According to the results of testing in both technical and physical readiness was revealed positive dynamics.

Study on the Length Changes of Bearings in Continuous Motion of Complex Mechanical System Based on ADMAS Simulation

In this paper, based on the volume force, surface force, concentrated force of elastic-plastic body, combining with the principle of virtual displacement, we use virtual prototype analysis software ADAMS to design the displacement simulation system of basketball players muscle length change in continued training. In order to verify the validity and reliability of the system, we establish muscle simulation model of basketball player continued training, and input parameters of simulation training time and training task in the model, import the simulation results into the MATLAB software, obtain the curve changes of muscle displacement with time, and combining with the curve get the muscle length changing parameter. It provides a technical reference for the training of basketball players.

Numerical Simulation of Storage Tank Based on Control Theory of Fuzzy Rough Sets

In this paper we introduce the computer rough set theory and fuzzy control theory into the numerical simulation, and use the multimedia virtual simulation to do simulation on the heat transfer process of mechanical reserve tank, and establish 2D simulation model of tank, and add heat boundary condition in the oil tank bottom. Through the numerical simulation we obtain the curve of oil tank temperature and pressure with time. And through comparison of virtual computing results and experiment results, it verifies the reliability of the algorithm. At the end of this paper, we apply the multimedia virtual simulation technology to the basketball match, and analyze the technical parameters of the match. It provides the technical reference for the training of basketball players.

Impact of Plyometric Training and Coordination Ladder Training on some Physical and Skill Variables for Basketball players

The complexity and sensitivity of training of basketball players are undeniable; hence, the scientific and professional approaches are very important in developing the process and controlling the effects of training (Magma, 2009) [14].

α-Tocopherol supplementation reduces the elevated 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine blood levels induced by training in basketball players

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of alpha-tocopherol (alpha-Te) supplementation on DNA oxidative damage induced by heavy training in basketball players. Blood was obtained from 10 players before (group A) and after training (group B) and after 1 month on alpha-Te (200 mg/day, orally) supplementation, before (group C) and after training (group D). Total antioxidant status (TAS), muscle enzyme activities and the biomarker of DNA oxidation, 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), were measured using commercial kits. alpha-Te and catecholamine blood levels were determined using HPLC methods. TAS was higher in the groups with alpha-Te (groups C and D). Levels of 8-OHdG and muscle creatine kinase (CK) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) were remarkably lower (0.20+/-0.03 ng/mL, 120+/-15 U/L and 430+/-90 U/L, respectively) in the group with alpha-Te (group D) than in group B (0.42+/-0.05 ng/mL, 286+/-12 U/L and 688+/-88 U/L, respectively; p<0.001). 8-OHdG levels were negatively correlated to TAS and positively to CK levels. alpha-Te supplementation may reduce DNA oxidation induced by training by protecting muscle cell "death" from glutamate entry and/or by elevation of TAS via amelioration of lipid peroxidation.
