Kohar, the Potters of Terai: An Ethnicity Sustaining the Art of Pottery

Potters are artists, and pottery is an ancient art of making artifacts from clay. The earthenware mainly includes items like lamps, pots, idols, etc., which are baked in fire and have been used in day-to-day activities, including cooking, decorations, and religious functions since the earliest date of human civilization. This paper is based on the descriptive method and aims to assess the traditional lifestyle of Kohar, the potter community in the Terai of Nepal. The direct interview was conducted with active pot makers residents of Rupandehi district, Nepal, to know they utilize what raw materials and equipment, what procedures for making a typical pottery are, what kinds of general earthenware are being produced, and what current difficulties affecting their tradition and culture. This cross-sectional study was conducted on the occasion of Dipawali, a Hindu festival in November 2023, and leads to the conclusion that the Kohar community of Nepal is encountering issues like shortage of quality soil, lack of market, and decreased interest of new generation in the pottery

Potential mechanism of tea for treating osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Osteoporosis (OP), osteoarthritis (OA), and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are common bone and joint diseases with a high incidence and long duration. Thus, these conditions can affect the lives of middle-aged and elderly people. Tea drinking is a traditional lifestyle in China, and the long-term intake of tea and its active ingredients is beneficial to human health. However, the mechanisms of action of tea and its active ingredients against OP, OA, and RA are not completely elucidated. This study aimed to assess the therapeutic role and related mechanisms of tea and its active ingredients in OP, OA, and RA. Moreover, it expanded the potential mechanisms of tea efficacy based on network pharmacology and molecular docking. Results showed that tea has potential anti-COX properties and hormone-like effects. Compared with a single component, different tea components synergize or antagonize each other, thereby resulting in a more evident dual effect. In conclusion, tea has great potential in the medical and healthcare fields. Nevertheless, further research on the composition, proportion, and synergistic mechanism of several tea components should be performed.

Implementation of the biomonitoring system in large scientific expeditions on the example of the scientific and educational project "Arctic Floating University"

Currently, biomonitoring research is actively developing in the Arctic region, despite this, groups of people who temporarily come to the Arctic remain outside the national monitoring system, unlike the local population. Participation in expeditions on ships implies special living conditions, such as limited space, sensory deprivation. The study aims to analyse the biochemical parameters of blood, the content of essential, toxic elements, persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and vitamin D in samples of the expedition group temporarily coming to work in extreme Arctic conditions. Scientists carried out a study on board the Mikhail Somov scientific expedition vessel as part of the Arctic Floating University project. The participants were 50 people: 26 men and 24 women aged 20 to 72 years. As a result of the analysis, the authors have determined: 8 biochemical blood parameters, vitamin D levels by high-performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometric detection, the content of essential (Co, Mn, Se, Cu, Zn), toxic elements (As, Cd, Hg, Pb) using an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer and POPs by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Almost 90% of the expedition participants had vitamin D concentrations below 20 ng/ml, which indicates a deficiency of this vitamin in the body. After conducting a comparative analysis between the expedition group and the permanent population of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug (NAO), it was found that the expedition group significantly reduced the content of not only toxic compounds (As, Cd, Hg, Pb, POPs), but also essential elements (Co, Mn, Se, Cu, Zn), according to compared to the local population. It is worth noting that the concentration of arsenic in the expedition group is 65 times lower (0.12 µg/L) than in permanent residents of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation (7.29 µg/L), and the concentration of lead in the group of expedition workers was 42 times lower (0.30 µg/L) than in the local population (15.21 µg/L). The data obtained provide information about the elementary and toxic status of the urban population of the Russian Federation. One of the reasons for such differences may be the predominantly traditional lifestyle of the local NAO population and the biomagnification of toxic substances in food chains. If biomonitoring studies are carried out by specialists on an ongoing basis and the data obtained is accumulated, then a basis may appear for predicting risks of both a short-term and long-term nature. The conducted research contributes to the expansion of the biomonitoring system at the national level.

Decolonising Environmental Risk Assessments of Potentially Polluting Wrecks: a Case Study of the Wreck of the USS Mississinewa in Ulithi Lagoon, Federated States of Micronesia.

Millions of tonnes of oil lie entombed within wrecks from two world wars which, when released, can cause environmental devastation. Wrecks are predominantly risk assessed by the Global North Nations responsible, resulting in an epistemology that separates human from nature. This research aimed to decolonise risk assessments to capture the spatially heterogeneous nature of human vulnerability to oil pollution. Triangulation analysis of interviews and official reports relating to the USS Mississinewa oil spill identified three Global South issues a Eurocentric risk assessment failed to capture: region-specific meteorological conditions causing the leak, remoteness making external resources slow to arrive, and the impact of the fishery closure on traditional subsistence lifestyles. A vulnerability assessment is proposed to prioritise wrecks in susceptible locations. Recommendations are made for a collaborative approach to wreck management by including local voices, resisting the Global North assumption of generality, and recognising the priorities of those living with wrecks.

One of the problems of school-age children is a change in lifestyle from traditional life style to sedentary life style which is the cause of lack of physical activity that can increase the risk of obesity. The practice of regular physical activity is very important to improve body health which can have an impact on student achievement. Communication, information, and education among students about the importance of practicing regular physical activity are needed to improve knowledge, attitudes, and practices of physical activity. The purpose of this activity is to provide health education about physical activity and consumption of nutritious food, practice aerobic gymnastics together, and health examinations and consultations. The targets of this activity are students, parents, teachers, and employees of SD Lazuardi Cordova GCS, West Jakarta. These activities were carried out in the form of health education through lectures and discussions, practice aerobic gymnastics together, health checks such as height, weight, blood pressure, nutritional status, blood sugar, and uric acid, as well as health consultations. Regular health education in schools is needed to improve health knowledge, attitudes, and practices in students.

The closer the better to the Great Pit of Daznak movie set? Residents of a rural town and their perceptions of film tourism

ABSTRACT Films are a powerful medium to promote destinations, particularly to attract tourists to film locations. Moreover, the economic development film tourism brings with it can revitalise rural areas undergoing economic decline. The attitudes of residents toward tourism are a key factor in the development of tourism-related economic activity. In this study, the perceptions of the residents of a rural Spanish town, Osuna, are explored after the filming of Game of Thrones. A difference-in-means analysis was employed with data collected through a questionnaire that was published in a local newspaper and posted on several Facebook pages whose members were Osuna residents. The conclusions suggested that the local residents perceived the film set as a positive development for attracting tourists. Additionally, the influence of distance from the film-set location was evident in only three aspects: impact on the traditional lifestyle of the residents, higher prices, and conflicts between film crews and residents.

Research on the Development and Utilization Strategies of Cultural Elements in Rural Tourism

In the context of an ever-accelerating modernization, people's living standards have significantly improved, leading to a diversified and high-quality demand for leisure and entertainment. Rural tourism, closely integrated with nature, has gradually become an ideal choice for urban residents to relax and seek tranquility and beauty. The popularity of rural tourism is not only due to its unique natural scenery and peaceful environment but also because of the rich cultural elements it encompasses. These elements, embodying the history, traditions, customs, and lifestyle of the countryside, offer tourists a chance to deeply understand and experience rural life. Developing and effectively utilizing these cultural elements can not only enrich the content and connotation of rural tourism, enhancing its attractiveness but also bring economic benefits to rural areas and promote local economic development. Moreover, the inheritance and development of cultural elements are crucial for the revitalization of rural culture. Through proper development and utilization, rural cultural heritage is preserved and continued, and the traditional culture and lifestyle of rural areas are passed on and innovated.

Poor Oral Health Is Associated With Inflammation, Aortic Valve Calcification, and Brain Volume Among Forager-Farmers.

Poor oral health is associated with cardiovascular disease and dementia. Potential pathways include sepsis from oral bacteria, systemic inflammation, and nutritional deficiencies. However, in post-industrialized populations, links between oral health and chronic disease may be confounded because the lower socioeconomic exposome (poor diet, pollution, and low physical activity) often entails insufficient dental care. We assessed tooth loss, caries, and damaged teeth, in relation to cardiovascular and brain aging among the Tsimane, a subsistence population living a relatively traditional forager-horticulturalist lifestyle with poor dental health, but minimal cardiovascular disease and dementia. Dental health was assessed by a physician in 739 participants aged 40-92 years with cardiac and brain health measured by chest computed tomography (CT; n = 728) and brain CT (n = 605). A subset of 356 individuals aged 60+ were also assessed for dementia and mild cognitive impairment (n = 33 impaired). Tooth loss was highly prevalent, with 2.2 teeth lost per decade and a 2-fold greater loss in women. The number of teeth with exposed pulp was associated with higher inflammation, as measured by cytokine levels and white blood cell counts, and lower body mass index. Coronary artery calcium and thoracic aortic calcium were not associated with tooth loss or damaged teeth. However, aortic valve calcification and brain tissue loss were higher in those who had more teeth with exposed pulp. Overall, these results suggest that dental health is associated with indicators of chronic diseases in the absence of typical confounds, even in a population with low cardiovascular and dementia risk factors.

As a result, different diseases are present in the body and mind. In the current era, Amlapitta is a severe health problem affecting people worldwide. Ayurveda is the complete medical system comprising physical, mental and spiritual health prevention and preservation of health. And Aahar is one of the essential pillars of Ayurveda for preventing and managing the disease. In the present scenario, many changes have occurred in the traditional lifestyle of a person, and changes have also come in the diet of a person. This results in more digestive disorders like Grahaniroga, Udarroga, Arsha, Atisara, Pandu, Chhardi and Amlapitta. When such a person eats unfavourable and antagonistic food, his pitta becomes Vidagdha; that Vidagdha pitta is called Amlapitta. Amlapitta is a common functional disease of Annavaha srotas. Materialistic lifestyle provokes people to run behind a busy, stressful life with the most minor concern towards proper food habits. According to Kashyap, Virudhaahar, Adhyasana, Amabhojna, Ajeernabhojana, Guru, Snigdha bhojana, Atiruksha anna and Vegadharana, and Divaswapna etc. causes Agnimandhya that leads Amlapitta. According to Madhavakara, increased pitta is an aggravating factor responsible for Amlapitta diseases. When people consume a proper diet according to Prakriti and do not get attracted toward food, do good exercise and adequate sleep and rest, and practice Yoga, Pranayama, and meditation, the disease of a restrained and gentle person gets cured.

Clothing, Sublimation, and the Enjoyment of War

AbstractIntergroup aggression occurs in many animal species but warfare has no clear non-human analogues. Among the features distinguishing war is that despite its obvious disadvantages and horrors, war enjoys enormous psychological appeal, illustrated by its entertainment value. The enjoyment of war presents a challenge for explanatory models, which range from adaptive scenarios in evolutionary paradigms to social learning and psychological drive theories. Further problems arise from findings in ethnography and archaeology. Among mobile hunter-gatherers who led traditional lifestyles, warfare was less common in socially non-complex contexts and, arguably, warfare was absent where people were routinely naked. In prehistory, warfare may be limited to the recent evolutionary past. A speculative formulation is outlined, positing a contributary role for sublimation, as a psychological effect of clothing. The proposed role of sublimation in the enjoyment of war allows for a more nuanced perspective on archaeological, ethnographic, and phenomenological evidence, suggesting warfare is not necessarily synonymous with intergroup aggression and its enjoyment could be contingent on the routine presence of clothing.

The resettlement policy of Tsarist Russia on the Kazakh steppes of the late XIX � early XX centuries (based on the materials of periodicals and scientific articles)

Relevance. After the conquest of Turkestan in the second half of the XIX century, the tsarist government began to take concrete action. The tsarist government sent special research expeditions to the Kazakh steppes and began to collect a lot of information about the geographical, economic and social situation. The Myrzashol and Kyzylkum districts in the south, notable for their proximity to the fertile and bird-rich banks of the Syrdarya River, offer convenient water access and deserve special attention. The materials collected by the researchers were processed, summarised and published in the Russian periodical �Turkestan Collection�.Purpose. The aim was to show the results of research expeditions and to introduce rulers, military personnel, peasants and peasants of vast Russia in search of work and land in the virgin steppe, where they have not yet plowed.Methodology. This research utilizes a historical review methodology, examining archival materials, periodicals, and previously published scientific articles.Results. The findings suggest that the resettlement was extensively facilitated by the division of Kazakh lands into administrative territories and the systematic imposition of state property laws. The analysis shows that this not only disrupted the traditional nomadic lifestyle of the Kazakhs but also paved the way for significant Russian migration and agricultural development, particularly in cotton cultivation.Conclusions. The study concludes that the resettlement policy was a form of imperial strategy that had lasting impacts on the region's demographic and economic landscapes. It underscores the dual role of economic exploitation and cultural domination in Tsarist colonization efforts, reflecting broader patterns of European imperial practices in Asia. The research highlights the need for a nuanced understanding of these historical dynamics to appreciate the complex legacy of colonial policies in Central Asia.

In recent years, the ethnoconfessional diversity of Russia, the traditional lifestyle of its indigenous peoples are threatened with destruction. In this regard, confessional issues are becoming particularly relevant. The article is based on the results of field research conducted by employees of the State public institution of the Republic of Moldova “Scientific Center for Socio-Economic Monitoring” in 2016–2023. The author examines the historical and sociological profile of Mordovian Muslims and identifies the following features: adherence to traditional value orientations and social attitudes, a low level of confessional involvement, the dominance of national and local identity in comparison with ethnic and religious identity, low conflict potential in the field of interfaith relations. Despite the pressure on their everyday life practices, traditional rituals and religious attitudes, the Muslims of Mordovia retain their ethnic and religious identity.

Exceptional longevity in Okinawa: Demographic trends since 1975.

Demographers have studied the Japanese mortality pattern since Japan became the most longevous population worldwide, half a century ago. Nutrition and lifestyle were considered by epidemiologists, gerontologists and other scientists as the most important reasons explaining the Japanese superiority. In Okinawa, the mortality pattern is even more exceptional, but few demographers have pointed out this exception. Other scientists proposed different explanations - for example some genetic characteristics, less salt and more animal protein in the food, a mild climate, a higher level of activity, a better consideration of the oldest in the population and, globally speaking, a more traditional lifestyle. At the end of the 1980s, lower improvements of mortality among young adults were identified in Okinawa. In 2002, Okinawa fell from the 4th to the 26th place in the ranking of the 47 Japanese prefectures by male life expectancy. This has been considered by the population of Okinawa as a 'shock'. Our in-depth analysis of available life tables and associated mortality rates proves that the population of Okinawa is divided into two groups of generations: those born before World War II and those born after. The older generations clearly experience a highly favourable mortality pattern, whereas the younger generations show mortality levels that are definitively higher compared to mainland Japan. This contribution considers which factors may explain such a situation, including the plausible invalidation of the age of some oldest in the population. We plea for in-depth demographic age validation that will enhance all scientific findings so far and boost the exceptional longevity in Okinawa.

The article deals with the issues of illness and death in the everyday life of Kazan burghers of the first half of the 19th century. Based on the analysis of a significant number of archival documents, an analysis of the nature of diseases was carried out, climatic, geographical and social causes of diseases and mortality were identified. The social factors of diseases are the low standard of living of the burghers, the peculiarities of the city as a habitat, the weak level of sanitary culture, the lack of qualified medical care. A significant role was played by the commitment of the burghers to the traditional conservative lifestyle, which was based on adherence to established practices and habits, including the refusal to consult doctors. The daily way of life was significantly corrected by epidemic diseases, among which smallpox and cholera were especially significant. The therapeutic and preventive measures taken significantly changed everyday life and required new practices that were perceived differently by people. Restrictive measures violated the usual order of life, a mass phenomenon was the refusal of smallpox vaccination, as well as non-compliance with sanitary measures. The burghers understood the disease as an attribute of the material world, which was expressed in the rational perception and designation of the disease as a state of the body, although some features of the irrational understanding of the disease can still be traced in the language of the burghers. The burghers realized death as an inevitable natural outcome of life, which required the necessary actions to complete earthly affairs.

Prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus Among Adult Population Within a Southern Nigerian Community

Background: The prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) is increasing globally, particularly in low and middle-income countries, driven by factors like rapid population growth, urbanization, obesity, and physical inactivity. In the south-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria, the pooled prevalence is 9.8%. This study focused on assessing the prevalence of DM in the Rumuomasi community in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. Method: 199 persons participated in this cross-sectional study using convenience sampling carried out at an outreach by GoodHeart and Life Support Initiative in November 2023 at the Rumuomasi community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers state, Nigeria as part of the World Diabetes Day. Fasting blood glucose were collected using two validated glucometers (Kiptrack blood glucose monitor) with a timing of 10 seconds and analyzed descriptively. Results: Out of 199 participants (63 males, 136 females), this study found a 6.53% diabetes prevalence (13 individuals), mostly in the 41-60 age group (n=7) and >60 age group (n=5). Despite this, the majority had normal fasting blood glucose. Pre-diabetes was present in 5.53% of the population. Conclusion: The prevalence of DM in this community (6.53%) was lower than the earlier reported of 6.8% in Port Harcourt in 2003 and 9.0% in Ekpoma, Edo State, Nigeria. This could be as a result of increasing diabetic – awareness programmes. Enlightenment campaigns on routine glucose checks, campaigns highlighting the value of a traditional lifestyle, particularly with regard to diet should be carried out more often.

Inspiratory muscle strength training to improve cardiometabolic health in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: protocol for the diabetes inspiratory training clinical trial.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a complex, chronic metabolic disease that carries with it a high prevalence of comorbid conditions, making T2DM one of the leading causes of death in the U.S. Traditional lifestyle interventions (e.g., diet, exercise) can counter some adverse effects of T2DM, however, participation in these activities is low with reasons ranging from physical discomfort to lack of time. Thus, there is a critical need to develop novel management strategies that effectively reduce cardiometabolic disease risk and address barriers to adherence. High-resistance inspiratory muscle strength training (IMST) is a time-efficient and simple breathing exercise that significantly reduces systolic and diastolic BP and improves vascular endothelial function in adults with above-normal blood pressure. Herein we describe the study protocol for a randomized clinical trial to determine the effects of a 6-week IMST regimen on glycemic control and insulin sensitivity in adults with T2DM. Our primary outcome measures include fasting plasma glucose, fasting serum insulin, and insulin resistance utilizing homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR). Secondary outcome measures include resting systolic BP and endothelium-dependent dilation. Further, we will collect plasma for exploratory proteomic analyses. This trial seeks to establish the cardiometabolic effects of 6 weeks of high-resistance IMST in patients with T2DM.

The article examines the process of the initial formation of physical culture and sports in the Yenisei province. Sports related to the traditional lifestyle of the population are highlighted, as well as new ones that appeared at the beginning of the twentieth century. Much attention is paid to the sports society “Sokol”.

Nomadic Lifestyle and Sustainable Livelihood Practices of the Raute

The study highlights the significance of the Raute community, their unique traditional lifestyle, and the challenges they have faced with. It emphasizes the importance of protecting and supporting marginalized communities like the Raute, as well as the need for equitable development. The main objective of the study is to identify the traditional livelihood practices of the Raute tribe in Nepal. The research was carried out in different districts but was focused on the Raute tribe from Gurans Rural Municipality of karnali province in Nepal. This study used descriptive research techniques to look at quantitative and qualitative data from 149 people between the ages of 18 and 65. Purposive sampling was used to interview 70 Raute people in this age group as well as the Raute leader (Mukhiya). To validate qualitative findings, primary and secondary sources were used, as well as informal conversations took place with key persons of local authorities. The study revealed that the Raute tribe, which consists of 149 people and has 48 percent women, frequently, shifts their dwellings and uses building materials from the forest. They rely on government assistance and forest preservation activities for income because they lack formal education and employment. Child marriage, dangerous deliveries, a lack of awareness about family planning, and a dependence on conventional medicine are all causes for concern. The Karnali Province has taken steps to preserve Raute culture, however due to environmental changes; poverty and a lack of jobs still exist.

Advancements in News Article Classification: Approaches in Machine Learning and Deep Learning across Sports, Entertainment, Politics, Business, and Weather Domains

The classification of news articles is a crucial technology for processing news information, aiding in the organization of information. It is challenging to classify news due to the continuous emergence of news that requires processing. The modern technological era has reshaped traditional lifestyles in various domains. Similarly, the medium of publishing news and events has experienced rapid growth with the advancement of Information Technology. In this research, news article classification is organized into five selected domains: sports, entertainment, politics, business, and weather news. The classification involves both common and uncommon approaches, along with datasets based on Machine Learning and Deep Learning techniques. Furthermore, the evaluation incorporates various metrics such as precision, recall, and accuracy to compare approaches across the selected five news domains with datasets. To narrow the focus, we limited the news categorization to a few domains (sports, entertainment, politics, business, and weather) to facilitate a better understanding of a large amount of data through concise content. We recommend our work to individuals interested in extending and building upon my research over time.

In recent years, the entrepreneurial activity of Small Indigenous Peoples of the North (SIPN) has increased significantly due to favorable economic climate through the development of programs of subsi-dizing traditional economic activities. Their representatives are involved in the production and promotion of traditional products on global and local markets, including through the Internet. This is the result of the transformation of the traditional lifestyle and adaptation to digital innovations. The study aimed to analyze the market of the SIPN’ traditional food products in the European North of Russia in the Internet on the basis of big data. The materials of the study were text messages related to the traditional economy of indigenous minorities, uploaded using methods and tools of automated data collection from the “VKontakte” social network. Data processing was based on innovative methods for analyzing large-scale data, the assortment of products of the traditional economy of the indigenous peoples of the European North of Russia, the offers for the sale of which were posted on the social network for the period in 20192022, were studied. Recently, the activation of producers of SIPN’ traditional food products in the Internet became the result, on the one hand, of restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic, on the other hand, of increased interest to the SIPN’ culture and the Arctic biological resources, which provide their high adaptability, health and well-being. As a result, these northern products have acquired the status of a delicacy. It has been revealed that the most popular product on the Internet market in the European North of Russia is fish and seafood. The practical significance of the study is connected with the possibility of applying the results in the drafting and adjustment of strategic and program documents aimed at the development of the Arctic territories, preservation of the traditional way of life and economic activities of the indigenous peoples of the European North of Russia.
