Possibilities of digital commenting on works of Russian classics (on the example of Ivan Bunin’s story “At the Dacha”)

The article examines the issue of new principles for presenting text variants and academic commentary in digital editions of Russian classics. As an example, an early story by I.A. Bunin “At the Dacha” was chosen, for this story is an attempt to comprehend Tolstoyism as an ideological, cultural and social phenomenon, it is rich in generalizing and symbolic details and requires extensive commentary. The first part of the article is devoted to the possibilities of digital representation of text variants. Several proposals were made: to provide the ability to view text variants both together and separately; show the text variants both directly in the text and next to the main text; divide the variants into significant (changing the meaning of the work) and minor ones and show them both separately and all together. In the second part of the article, a model of digital commentary to the story “At the Dacha” is built, organized in stages (a system of windows opening one after another) according to cloud-semantic criteria. The commentary, compared to the traditional book format, expands significantly: it incorporates visual and audio information, as well as a broad cultural context (which is especially important in cultural stories such as “At the Dacha”). This type of commentary takes into account the different research questions that a research reader may have, as well as the different backgrounds of the potential readers. In addition, the digital commentary is open to changes: if new facts appear, the commentary articles can be supplemented. The commentary model presented in the article does not claim to be complete or binding; the author invites all interested researchers to dialogue.

Engaging in Interactive Book Reading: General Warming Up Before Exercising for Children

Many parents are encouraging their children to exercise as a result of the COVID- 19 pandemic. Many others, on the other hand, do not warm up before participating in any sport. This is dangerous since it increases the risk of sprained muscles, cramping, and other problems. Warming up is crucial before exercising, yet many people are still unaware of the risks of not doing so. The objectives for this project is to create an interactive sports book. Unlike traditional books, this interactive book will use lift-the-flap, slide, or spin-the-wheel strategies to make learning more entertaining for children. To promote the socialization of young people through sports. As well as teaching children how to warm up with the assistance of adults. The method used is qualitative method. The results is It is clear from the in-depth interview and observation that many people still ignore the importance of warming up. Several children revealed in interviews that their teacher did not teach them how to warm up, and one of them learned about warming up via YouTube. Which means that the video that children see isn't always appropriate for their age group's warming up movement. According to the findings of the interviews, manipulating a scenario and performing fundamental movements is an effective technique to teach preschool children to warm up. The 7 Primal Movement Patterns is a great warm-up for children aged 3- 5 years. The seven basic movements are twist, push, pull, bend, squat, lunge, and gait. They represent the most basic breakdown of all human movements.

BookTok Community Building: Dissecting Fangirl Behavior on TikTok

ABSTRACTThis poster explores how BookTok, a social media community on TikTok focused on literature, builds a community among an audience of primarily female readers, sometimes called “fangirls.” The researchers analyzed comments on popular BookTok videos, finding that emotional responses, generic comments, and seeking interaction with other viewers were most prevalent. BookTok discussions prioritize shared experiences and emotional connection over critical analysis, creating a welcoming space for readers of all ages. This research suggests that BookTok functions similarly to traditional book clubs, offering a platform for community building and potentially boosting reading engagement and offers possibilities for engagement for libraries and educators.

Unjust: Publishing Black and African American Children’s Books and School Availability

Traditional book publishing has a pronounced and unjust deficiency of Black and African American voices. White culture, thoughts, and rules are the standard in traditional publishing. Black and African American authors are not typically picked up by white-dominated publishing companies. In traditional publishing, mostly white literary agents are gatekeepers and acquisition editors shut the doors too frequently to non-white authors. Aspiring Black authors then resort to hybrid or vanity press companies that often use unscrupulous practices, charge exorbitant fees, accomplish little or low-quality work, and deny authors’ agency and full rights in the final disposition of a book. Because a majority of traditionally published children’s books featuring Black or African American stories or characters are written by or illustrated by non-Black people, the wide possibilities of adventure, celebrations, discovery, and friendship stories are not published for Black children. Instead, publishers favor stories about slavery, the civil rights movement, famous Black people, and hair tales as well as racially ambiguous characters. Regrettably, Black and African American culturally relevant stories written and illustrated by Black or African Americans are not readily available to children in school and library settings consistent with schools’ community or student demographics. This article shares research findings and viewpoints of Kathy Anderson and Karen Bowlding, two Black children’s book writers and publishing consultants who are also parents. Black and African American students encounter education and cultural injustice because of the practices of traditional publishing companies, educators, and librarians. Parents and guardians can ameliorate these issues with discernment and action. Foremost, publishing company decision-makers must acknowledge their own racial biases that deny representation and authenticity to all children in our US classrooms.

SIDDHA HERBS AND MEDICINES FOR THE TREATMENT OF BREAST CANCER WITH EMPHASIS ON CELL LINE ACTIVITY: A REVIEW

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. It causes major morbidity and mortality. Current treatment options for breast carcinoma include surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormone therapy.The main challenge lies in treating the disease with fewer side effects and patient compliance as the above-mentioned therapies cause general as well as local complications. Siddha literature has many herbal, metallic and mineral preparations to treat breast cancer which can be used as an adjunct for treating breast cancer. For this review, the literature on diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer was collected from multiple sources like Siddha classical texts, traditional books, Siddha cyclopaedic medical dictionary. The main objective of this paper is to evaluate, document and discusses the important Siddha herbal, herbo-mineral and external medicines with Botanical name, Tamil name, Pharmacological activity and cell line model used in treatment of breast carcinoma.

Learning beyond books: A hybrid model to learn real‐world problems

AbstractThere are several initiatives underway to improve the learning of software developers. These attempts include the integration of GitHub into software engineering classes, the creation of learning management systems, gamification approaches, and collaborative learning platforms. These initiatives have demonstrated promise in boosting students' collaborative growth and cooperation abilities, emphasizing their potential influence on improving learning experiences in practical areas. Books, on the other hand, remain basic in education, but their physical size limits their ability to explore all practical elements of a topic in depth. This limitation requires more research and application of theoretical information in real‐world circumstances. In this work, we address the issue of limited space in traditional books that frequently prevents complete presentation of practical elements of a topic. To address this issue, we propose an application that improves the reading experience and accelerates the learning process. To anticipate themes, we use a combination of latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) algorithms and a generative pre‐trained transformer. First, utilizing LDA to find potential topic keywords inside the text and then leveraging generative pretrained transformer to predict topic names based on the LDA produced keywords. In addition, a query builder module produces and executes queries depending on the current page's topic, obtaining real‐world issues from Stack Overflow. The system classifies results by query‐title similarity, question‐answer ranking, and content quality before displaying them to users. This bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. We illustrate the usefulness of suggested tool using simulations, comparison with existing tools and user studies. The majority of users provide favorable comments and find it interesting and helpful for improving the learning process.

The Aesthetics of Learning: Factors Shaping Art Spaces in High School Libraries

This study explores the diverse factors influencing the aesthetics of learning within high school libraries in Hanoi, Vietnam, highlighting the transition of these spaces from traditional book repositories to dynamic learning environments. Employing a structured questionnaire administered to 200 teachers and school administrators, the research utilizes multiple linear regression analysis to investigate the impact of physical layout, institutional policy, educational objectives, student engagement, technological integration, and cultural and community influences on learning aesthetics. The results reveal significant positive contributions from the physical layout, institutional policy, educational objectives, student engagement, and technological integration. In contrast, cultural and community influences did not show a significant effect, indicating a more complex relationship between local culture and educational aesthetics that may require deeper analysis. These findings provide valuable insights for educational policymakers and school administrators by underscoring the importance of strategic design and resource allocation in enhancing library environments to bolster learning outcomes. The study addresses a critical gap in the existing academic literature and offers actionable recommendations for optimizing library spaces' aesthetic and functional aspects to enhance educational effectiveness.

Game-based learning in metaverse: Virtual chemistry classroom for chemical bonding for remote education

Virtual classrooms based on the metaverse or virtual reality are useful and effective for imparting basic chemistry concepts. Interactive and immersive environments can effectively teach fundamental chemistry concepts, such as chemical bonding and formulas, thereby making these otherwise abstract and intangible ideas more accessible and understandable. With the outbreak of Covid-19, e-learning platforms have also been developed for chemistry education. However, these platforms are unable to make learning chemistry interactive and enjoyable. Therefore, there is a need to motivate students to learn basic chemistry concepts in an immersive and interactive environment. In this paper, we propose an immersive virtual reality-based Virtual Chemistry Classroom for Chemical Bonding (VC3B) to facilitate the learning of chemical bonding and formulas through a game-based learning approach. It includes two different games for learning chemical bonding and formulas. In the first game, molecule construction, students reconstruct the structure of molecules by rearranging the atoms in order to learn about chemical bonding. In the second game, chemical formula, students compose the chemical formula of a given compound to help them memorize chemical formulas. The study, conducted on 90 middle school students, employed a randomized controlled study design, dividing participants into three groups. Each group learned about chemical bonding and formulas through three different mediums. After conducting the experiment, the students were given a questionnaire to evaluate the usability of VC3B. The results of the study were positive, with participants finding the VC3B to be more interactive than traditional book and online lecture methods. Participants were also motivated to learn and enhance their knowledge of chemistry.

Children’s reading and screen media use before, during and after the pandemic: Australian parent perspectives

ABSTRACT This study investigates the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children’s mediascape through a repeated cross-sectional study involving primary caregivers of children aged 7–13 in Australia. Survey 1 was conducted as COVID-19 lockdowns ended in 2021, to examine how extended lockdowns had affected children’s reading habits and screen media usage and how parents had adapted their media supervision and guidance strategies. Survey 2 was carried out one year later to gain insights from the post-pandemic period. The data revealed that the pandemic and lockdowns had led to a substantial increase in children’s ownership and usage of digital devices. In contrast, children’s personal ownership of traditional books and e-book readers had declined, and digital books were less popular than other digital content. Parents, who expanded their involvement in active mediation and media co-use during the pandemic, largely reverted to monitoring and restricting their children’s media activities after it.

Visualization for a new era: Impact and application of large language models and AIGC to traditional business models

<p>This paper focuses on the application and business value of large-scale language models, such as GPT and Ernie’s model. These models combined with AIGC tools like stable diffusion generate images with fixed styles, character traits, and continuous plots using randomized story scripts. As a result, it enhances the operational efficiency between or within industries widely, and it fully demonstrate their business value. On the technical side, this paper describes in detail of building a pipeline to generate cue words required for stable diffusion, in which using large-scale language models and story scripts. Subsequently, the limitations of text-to-image are summarized by comparing the traditional method and language model, i.e. comparing characteristics from traditional book production and images generated using language model’s cue words. This leads to a supervised multiround iterative LoRA modeling scheme that utilizes CLIP to achieve character IP fixation. To evaluate the impact of the application direction, we combine application scenarios and researches on application aspects regarding current AIGC industry structure, we found that the AIGC tool has several major aspects, mainly includes the aspects of basic big model, industry and scenario models, business and domain small models, AI infrastructure and AIGC supporting services. big model and AIGC techniques generate images with no specific rules and have less limitation. We call this ‘visualization’ in the new AI era. In this paper, we explore the possible impacts and economic values when changing from traditional domain to the new AI ear.</p>

과학 수업에서 디지털 자료를 활용한 수업이 초등학생들의 디지털 소양에 미치는 영향과 디지털 수업에 대한 인식에 미치는 영향

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of classes using digital textbooks and digital materials on elementary school students' digital literacy and their perception of digital classes, focusing on the expansion of the visual data area in science classes. For the 5th and 6th graders of elementary schools in the central region, classes centered on traditional book textbooks and classes using digital textbooks were conducted to compare the degree of improvement in digital literacy. 158 5th grade students and 146 6th graders were participated in. Classes using book-type textbooks and digital textbooks were conducted 3 times a week for 3 months, for a total of 12 weeks, from October to December to research subjects with similar living conditions and economic levels, and digital literacy tests were conducted before and after. As a result, students who used digital textbooks showed a partially statistically significant change in the degree of improvement in digital literacy compared to students in the control group. As a result of analysis by dividing into five areas: collection of information, utilization and management of information, utilization and evaluation of media, utilization of smart devices, and understanding and practice of copyright and Internet ethics, Comparing the pre-test and post-tests in the experimental and control groups, each showed significant changes in digital literacy. This is a result that runs counter to the idea that digital literacy can only be improved by making greater use of digital materials. However, students who consistently use it are able to induce more changes in terms of digital literacy than students who do not. In addition, students who used digital textbooks preferred classes using audio-visual materials such as digital textbooks more than classes using general photos or book-type textbooks, and had comfort and confidence in using digital devices such as computers and tablet PCs. In addition, it was found that science classes using materials were more preferred. However, among students' individual responses or interviews, some responded that learning was more effective in traditional teaching, research through scientist interviews, and explanations through images or diagrams.

Hazardous or Advantageous: Uncovering the Roles of Heavy Metals and Humic Substances in Shilajit (Phyto-mineral) with Emphasis on Heavy Metals Toxicity and Their Detoxification Mechanisms.

Shilajit is a phyto-mineral diffusion and semi-solid matter used as traditional medicine with extraordinary health benefits. This study provides a comprehensive data on Shilajit with emphasis on heavy metal profile, associated toxicities, and metal detoxification mechanisms by humic substances present in Shilajit. Data was searched across papers and traditional books using Google Scholar, PubMed, Science Direct, Medline, SciELO, Web of Science, and Scopus as key scientific databases. Findings showed that Shilajit is distributed in almost 20 regions of the world with uses against 20 health problems as traditional medicine. With various humic substances, almost 11 biological activities were reported in Shilajit. This phyto-mineral diffusion possesses around 65 heavy metals including the toxic heavy metals like Cu, Al, Pb, As, Cd, and Hg. However, humic substances in Shilajit actively detoxify around 12 heavy metals. The recommended levels of heavy metals by WHO and FDA in herbal drugs is 0.20 and 0.30ppm for Cd, 1ppm for Hg, 10.00ppm for As and Pb, 20ppm for Cu, and 50ppm for Zn. The levels of reported metals in Shilajit were found to be lower than the permissible limits set by WHO and FDA, except in few studies where exceeded levels were reported. Shilajit consumption without knowing permissible levels of metals is not safe and could pose serious health problems. Although the humic substances and few metals in Shilajit are beneficial in terms of chelating toxic heavy metals, the data on metal detoxification still needs to be clarified.

Improving the Morals of Karimah Santri at Al-Ihsan Islamic Boarding School

An effective learning environment is a very important factor in the educational process to achieve educational goals. Akhlakul Karimah is the goal to be achieved in the Islamic education process. Islamic boarding schools are educational institutions that function as institutions for spreading and developing Islamic religious knowledge as well as institutions that function as producers of national cadres who have good norms and values. So, Islamic boarding schools must be designed in such a way that they can function as they should. This research aims to determine the environment of the Al Ihsan Islamic Boarding School as an effective environment in improving the morals and morals of students. The approach used is a qualitative approach. The methods used in this research are observation and interviews. The location of this research is the Al Ihsan Islamic Boarding School. The research results show that physically Al Ihsan is a clean, comfortable, safe, and beautiful Islamic boarding school. Socially, Al Ihsan and his students have a spirit of justice, responsibility, and cooperation. In terms of social systems, it has a good administrative system. Culturally, the institution created is very good, this can be seen from the material which is a combination of traditional books and contemporary books which makes Al Ihsan students literate in moderate modern sciences and a different organizational culture which will lead the students to achieve noble morals.

Analysis of Digital Tourist's Purchasing Decision Process Based on Feedback and Opinions

Today, tourism and digitalisation are very much intertwined. The phenomenon of tourism in the digital space - digital tourism - emerged with the birth of the internet and has grown in intensity over the years. The evolution of digitalisation has brought about a paradigm shift that has not only led consumers to adopt information and communication technologies, but has also greatly transformed consumer behaviour, preferences and motivations. Indeed, the development of technology has disrupted the traditional booking trends of tourists, their attitudes towards tourism and the social groups of tourists by providing dynamic online communication channels. Digital tourism users - digital tourists - are increasingly aware of the information and communication technologies, services and tools available to them, and are able to shape the market offer tailored to their needs through their actions and the data they provide. One of the most effective means of doing this is to share feedback and opinions online. In our research, I provide secondary information to support the importance of feedback and opinions, clarify its role in digital tourism, and then investigate the phenomenon of electronic-world-of-mouth through a questionnaire survey and decision tree analysis, and highlight the insights and implications of eWOM for digital tourists' behaviour in the online space based on opinions.

Obesity from a sign of being rich to a disease of the new age: A historical review.

Obesity has historically been seen as a sign of wealth and social privilege, as can be inferred from studying the ancient works. We aimed to report the causes, diagnostic approaches, and treatment among the authentic books of traditional Iranian medicine. We searched the original versions of historical books and used a narrative approach to report the history of obesity. Obesity was often seen as an indicator of complete health. Obesity in healthy women was a requirement for beauty, based on descriptions of women from the Zoroaster period and from antiquity to the late Qajar period. This point of view existed during various ages. However, after the constitutional period, the view of obesity changed into that of an illness, due to modern ideas and offshore role models, especially during the Pahlavi era. This change led to serious attempts to treat obesity. Obesity is a critical problem that needs immediate attention to prevent substantial health consequences. Different medical paradigms have presented their criteria and foundations throughout history. The emphasis of Iranian alternative medicine was on prevention and the maintenance of health, with the next step being treatment. Prevention, treatment, consuming medicinal plants, and recovery have often been written about in the traditional books of medicine. Throughout the traditional Iranian medical texts, physicians have made recommendations about maintaining an appropriate body weight. The best treatment was prevention and a healthy lifestyle. The treatments for controlling and restricting obesity included paying attention to nourishment, mobility, and even the habitat.

Comparing digital identification guides with traditional guidebooks in a bird field trip

ABSTRACT Field trips provide real-world learning opportunities in biology education as they promote knowledge about nature among other things. As biodiversity is declining knowledge of species is important for understanding and appreciating the natural world and its implications. Many field guides are digitally available, but differences from traditional book-based guides are understudied. This case study compares the effectiveness of a traditional book field guide with a mobile species identification app during a bird field trip on cognitive, motivational, and affective outcomes for college students (N = 133). Linear mixed models indicate no differences in bird species knowledge between the groups before and after the field trip. However, participants in the book group felt more competent and reported a higher interest after the field trip. This suggests that books could probably still add value to learning in the field. They should not be dismissed as they can be useful tools for students by enhancing confidence and contribute to the learning experience in a different way to mobile apps.
