Application of GIS technologies for improving the content of the tourist map of Fergana province, Uzbekistan

This article contains proposals and recommendations for the creation and future development of interactive-dynamic maps of the Fergana province of the Republic of Uzbekistan through ArcGIS online software and cloud technologies. The experience of tourism geography and cartography, as well as the methodology of creating tourist maps, for creating interactive-dynamic maps, are explained. Selection of software tools for creating an interactive-dynamic tourist map using modern geographic information systems, mapping, creation of digital cartographic bases, and vectorization of the Raster MAR image with the help of manual placement of the map is shown through the MapInfo map system. A 1:750000 scale tourist map of the province was created based on the scientific results obtained on the economic and geographical features of tourism development in Fergana province. On the basis of the map, the possibility of determining the specialization of tourist regions in Fergana province and effectively using the potential of the regions has been revealed. Also, the system of marking objects displayed in the technology of creating maps, which is closely related to their content, and the principle of consistency have been preserved.

The The Disconnect Between Governmental Tourism Strategies and Local Business Priorities

Tourism has been a crucial driver of economic growth in Kazakhstan, contributing positively to the country‘s GDP. To support this sector, the government has invested heavily in developing the tourism industry, making it a key pillar in their five-year plan. This study aimed to evaluate the impacts of the government’s tourism plan on Bayanaul, which is among TOP 10 priority tourists’ areas on the country’s Tourism Map. To reach the aim of the article authors examined the government’s tourism plan for Bayanaul, including its objectives and strategies, and then assessed how these align with the priorities and needs of local businesses in the area. It also explored potential consequences of any disconnect between government policies and local interests for the success and sustainability of tourism development in Bayanaul. Data was collected through interviews and surveys from various stakeholders, including government officers involved in tourism planning and implementation, business owners in Bayanaul area, and tourists who had visited the area. The results showed that different stakeholders had varying opinions on the implementation and impact of tourism development in the Bayanaul area, which indicated a lack of communication among different stakeholders during the implementation of the government plan.

Understanding the need for utilizing entrepreneurial opportunities and untapped potentialities in the tourism sector in Tamil Nadu

India enjoys a predominant position in the tourism map in the international arena because of her own uniqueness in religious, monumental, historical and legendary living things. It is the second largest industry provides larger employment opportunities both directly and indirectly. In Tamil Nadu there are more than 25 lakhs to 30 lakhs people are directly engaged in the allied tourism sectors like hotels, restaurants, transport, hospitality and other important wings of tourism sector. This paper clearly focuses by the researchers about the untapped potentialities of the tourism sector in establishing industry oriented tasks and also exposes how far sustainable tourism is an instrumental in achieving sustainable development as well as tourism sector in Tamil Nadu with some illustrations in detail.

ГАСТРОТУРИЗМ – АКТУАЛЬНИЙ НАПРЯМ РОЗВИТКУ СФЕРИ ТУРИЗМУ

In the conditions of transformation of global economic relations, international trade in services offers research and implementation of tourist services to meet the demand of various categories of consumers. Gastronomic tourism is one of the options for recreation in modern conditions. A feature of gastronomic tourism in Ukraine, as well as in the countries of cross-border cooperation, are authentic natural food products, which are the basis for creating unique local dishes and drinks. The article analyzes the mechanisms of the functioning of gastrotourism as an important element of the development of tourism at the current stage, researches the foreign and domestic experience of culinary tourism, types of gastronomic tours, as well as GIS technologies that provide an opportunity to effectively search for interesting gastronomic locations in a certain territory. The "Strategy for the development of tourism until 2030" and the creation of the Vinnytsia industry association of hospitality "Bread Salt" were considered, the Gastromap – a new tourist map of Vinnytsia, as well as architectural monuments, interesting attractions and museums, and the "Cherry menu" in food establishments of the city of Vinnytsia were analyzed. The strategy of tourism development in the Vinnytsia region was studied, and a project model of relations in the tourism and recreation cluster "Vinnytsia" was proposed. The article analyzes the real state of activity of restaurant enterprises during the large-scale in Ukraine. The directions of activity of this business segment were considered. Therefore, given the current situation the restaurant business should improve, modernize and, first of all, pay attention to solving safety issues both for staff and for consumers. The creation of a number of tourist and excursion routes will allow to harmoniously combine attractive conditions of rest and travel to fully satisfy the needs of the most demanding tourists. Vinnytsia has all the prerequisites for the intensive development of domestic and foreign tourism, namely: features of the geographical location and relief.

Картографічний супровід маршруту «Скам’яніле місто» в місті Ценжковіце (Польща)

The article is devoted to the analysis of cartographic support of tourist routes, in particular, the "Petrified City" route in Cenzkowicz (Poland). In the context of consideration of various mapping technologies, in particular the platforms Google Maps, MapMyHike, AllTrails and others, and their possibilities for creating and planning routes. The author draws attention to the importance of these tools for creating tourist maps and navigation materials. The focus of the article is aimed at revealing the geological features and history of the "Petrified City" route through the prism of natural monuments. An overview of the tourist potential of the city of Cenzhkovice and its main attractions is given. The AllTrails application was used to visually represent the route and provide information about the elevation profile and route stopping points. Special attention is paid to the importance of cartographic support for ensuring safety, comfort and enriching the experience of tourists during their travels. This consists in providing detailed geographical information, which contributes to better orientation during the route and improves the quality of the tourist experience.

MANAGEMENT OF INDIGENOUS RESOURCES FOR PROMOTION OF INDIGENOUS TOURISM: A STUDY OF SELECTED TRIBAL DISTRICTS OF MADHYA PRADESH

This research article aims to explore indigenous tourism and people, which is a hidden tourist treasure that can be showcased to the outer world for future research gaps. This study is an attempt to reflect the problems, concepts, scope, Government tourism policies, objectives, hypothesis research design, and limitations in the first chapter, followed by an extensive review of the literature to understand the impacts of indigenous tourism on indigenous community, perspectives of the indigenous community of promotion of indigenous tourism, management of indigenous resources, and tourist demands. Data was collected from the tourist respondents who are the direct beneficiaries of indigenous tourism at Balaghat, Mandla, and Dindori districts. In this backdrop, the study aims to portray the trend of results for making Indigenous tourism a viable business option by branding and positioning the study area in the international tourist map. Two questionnaires, one for tourists and another for the indigenous community, were made. The analysis of tourist data is in three parts. The first part is related to the demographic profile of tourists. The second part includes travel-related information, and the third part includes tourist activity. The analysis of community data is in three parts. The first part is related to the demographic profile of the community. The second part includes the impact of indigenous tourism on the community, and the third part includes perspectives of indigenous communities on indigenous tourism promotion. The findings reflect the socio-demographic profile of the members of the community. The tourist questionnaire yielded valuable insights with respect to travel information, preferences and behaviour, as well as activities undertaken by the tourists. The underlying factors influencing the impact of tourism on the community were found to be 1) Creation of Human Resources, 2) Social Incapacity, 3) Conservation Focus, 4) Community Awareness and Participation, 5) Promotion of Local Products, and 6) Infrastructure Improvement. Suggestions have been put forward in connection to developing a better understanding of the target customer, and the tourist market in general; recreation and accommodation options; further research, promotion programs, branding; and greater focus in the making of tourism policy.

Politicization and Commodification of Tourism: Implications for George Town World Heritage Site

The inscription of World Heritage Status to both George Town and Melaka in 2008 had given tremendous impacts in terms of tourist arrivals and the growth of economy. While the inscription has pinned Malaysia on the global tourism map, the rapid pace of tourism development has resulted in a series of problems brought by tourism commodification. Tourism gentrification, outmigration and change of building uses are among the common symptoms of commodification. Taking George Town as a case study, this paper aims to explore the implications of tourism commodification, particularly on the physical impacts and local residents. This study is essential to identify the stage of commodification of the study area, whose development are based on the heritage commodification. Based on the site observations and semi-structured interviews with the residents, administrative staffs and business owners in the study area, several arguments are put forward in this paper. First, a phased process of tourism commodification has taken place in George Town, and triggered significant changes in lifestyle, community development, property market values and land use development. Second, George Town has shifted from a free trading port to a productivist heritage-scape, with local government being the principal influencing factor. Findings of the study reveal that commodification does not necessarily destroy the meaning of heritage in urban heritage destination, but also helps to improve economic status and quality of life of the local residents. Future research on commodification should be conducted in other World Heritage Sites and compare with the commodification stage in George Town World Heritage Site.

Tom Lavazzi’s ‘Let This Sentence Be Your Guide: Diagrammatic alterity and performative de(X)-touring of urban cityscapes,’ as hybrid performance and socio-cultural critique, is a pilot/trial run for group or individual actions that interrogate the limits of a schematic epistemology. Notwithstanding the site-specific orientation of the piece, it can serve as a template for historically-torqued reappropriations of commercialized appropriations of urbanscapes generally. The piece semi-arbitrarily overlays a tourist map of Savannah, GA, with a Reed-Kellogg formatted diagram of a tourist brochure’s place-branding sentence; the diagram is then deployed as an alternate ‘tour’ route, the nodes of the diagram corresponding to ‘stops’ on the tour. ‘Tourist’/performers are cast, or repositioned, as critically-conscious Situationist flâneurs, finding themselves at junctures which may or may not correspond to conventional tourist ‘sites’, hence dialogically deforming them, with the aid of virtual historical texts haptically accessed (i.e., via mobile devices) in real time, as sites for critical intervention. Given the Old South ideological mise en scène implied by the brochure’s branding rhetoric, and featured in many of the city’s ‘historical’ markers, the piece also detours an 18th century dance form, the quadrille, as imaginative leitmotif for the critical movement. Informed by Situationist flâneurisme, Actor Network Theory’s (ANT) materialist semiosis, letterist graphemic elaborations of language (between letter and graph, drawing and text), and antebellum ballroom etiquette, the piece imaginatively reconfigures and hence reconceives the branded cityscape. Mapping the ‘Magic of Huesca’: a methodological proposal for the design of tourist cartography

ABSTRACT Maps published for tourism promotion and information constitute a particular sub-group of tourist maps made using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This paper proposes a methodological protocol for the systematic elaboration of tourism mapping. This procedure is applied to the design of the tourist map of the province of Huesca. The cartographic tool was designed based on the needs of tourism promotion by the Public Administration, seeking the halfway point between persuasion and precision when representing elements on the map. Given that data would have to be updated and modified in the future, open-source software was used so that the administration can then run, modify and update it. In addition, the project was validated through surveys to two different audiences (general and expert).

Integrated Sustainable Development of Culture into Tourist Map Design: A Case from Foshan, China.

As the fourth pillar of sustainable development, culture is widely recognized as contributing to human wellbeing. The distinctive culture of cities is an important driving force for attracting visitors to destinations for tourism consumption. Since historical cities have important cultural and historical values, the design of their tourist maps needs not only geographic positioning and artistic aesthetics, but also a systematic design method to present the connotation of regional cultures, so as to enhance the local cultural identity of hosts and the cultural cognition of visitors, and to drive the local tourism economy, improve the regional environment, promote cultural transmission and inheritance with the help of tourist map design in terms of cultural sustainability, which ultimately achieves sustainable development of human wellbeing. Taking Foshan, a national historical city, as an example, combined with the cultural gene and the cultural hierarchy theory, this study analyzes and summarizes the regional culture of Foshan from three aspects: material cultural gene, intangible cultural gene and spiritual cultural gene. This study also comprehensively presents the geographical information and historical or humanistic characteristics of the city through direct translation, narrative translation, and metaphor translation, which provide theoretical support and practical guidance for the integration of regional cultures into tourist map design.

Optimization of Tourism Promotion through Tourism Object Location Map: A Case Study of Serang City, Banten Province, Indonesia

The success of promoting historical tourist attractions (heritage) depends on aspects of seeing existing opportunities and foresight in targeting the target market. Providing information to tourists is now becoming something important. One form of information is by mapping tourist objects. Mapping tourist is useful for providing information to tourists about the types and locations of tourist objects. Informative tourist maps not only visualize tourist objects but also matters relating to tourist facilities and infrastructures such as accessibility, public facilities, the physical condition of the area, and other supporting information. Currently, no map contains the location or location of historical tourist attractions in Serang City so tourists know very little about existing tourism. This study aims to present objects and accessibility of historical tourism in Serang City by compiling visualizations through mapping. This research was conducted in the city of Serang, Banten, Indonesia in 2021. This research is a descriptive study using a qualitative approach. Sampling with nonprobability sampling with purposive sampling technique. Researchers made three alternative tourist maps that can be used by serang city. Suggestions for Serang City is that it is necessary to determine a historical tourism map and it is necessary to make a giant billboard of Serang's historical tourism map at two location points (Alun-alun Serang and Old Banten Area).

Community Empowerment Assistance Based on Tourism Potential in Cibiru Tourism Village

Cibiru is one of the sub-districts in the east of the city of Bandung and located at the foot of Mount Manglayang, has been blessed with various kinds of extraordinary natural, cultural and craft resources. Natural wealth in the form of hilly areas, agricultural plantations and abundant water resources. Some areas have also been arranged in such a way by the relevant parties from what were originally in the form of shrubs to green open spaces and beautiful gardens which can also be used for tourism activities. In addition, this sub-district also has the largest arts and culture group in the city of Bandung, which maintains many traditions and cultures that have been passed down from generation to generation and maintains the typical arts of West Java such as Silat, Benjang, Reak and so on. Tourism activities in Cibiru have not been managed properly because there is no legal management to carry out tourism activities. In addition to the absence of mapping and packaging of tourism potential that is owned so that it does not yet have a selling value that can provide economic benefits for the surrounding community. This service activity is carried out as part of an effort to help empower the community so that all tourism potential that is owned can provide great value for the community. The activities carried out are in the form of tourism management training and workshop activities to identify superior tourism potential so that a mapping of tourism potential is obtained as outlined in a tourist map as well as making simple tour packages that can be used as basic capital in marketing tourism potential

The Integrated Assessment of Degraded Tourist Geomorphosites to Develop Sustainable Tourism: A Case Study of Grădina Zmeilor Geomorphosite, North-West Region, Romania

Most of the natural geomorphosites represent main attractions that have a high tourism potential and need great care in terms of their capitalization. The irrational tourism capitalization of the geomorphosites may lead to their degradation because of the lack of proper tourism infrastructure and the practice of random and uncontrolled tourism. The reintroduction in the tourism circuit of such geomorphological structures that have a high landscape and scientific value claims, first of all, the assessment of the current state of degradation and the drawing up of sustainable development proposals from a geomorphological point of view. This study deals mainly with the assessment of a geomorphosite (Grădina Zmeilor Geomorphosite, North-West Region, Romania), using a complex methodology, which is based on the identification of criteria influencing the tourism development of the geomorphosite, and their analysis by means of qualitative points given according to the impact of each criterion. A total of 17 criteria have been therefore identified. They are structured along four levels of analysis which are integrated in the form of spatial analysis based on weighted average, and highlight the overall value of the analysed geomorphosite. By implementing the methodology in the proposed research, a total value of 0.29 has been obtained in an interval between 0 and 1. This value underlines the high degree of degradation of the geomorphosite. The planning proposals have the main purpose of increasing the overall value of the geomorphosite by providing sustainability in its capitalization. To achieve this, proposals have been made to mitigate the shortcomings for a total of four criteria. The overall value of the geomorphosite has been recalculated, resulting a significant increase of the value (0.33), highlighting the impact of the implementation of these proposals in practice for the development of the geomorphosite and the increase of its level of tourism attractiveness. The introduction of this objective on the tourist map, following the application of the suggestions proposed in this paper, can lead to favorable economic development both at the local and regional level. This analysis model can also be applied to other geomorphists facing the problem of degradation and involution.

Promoting small family businesses through OCOP program and tourism activities in rural areas in Vietnam: the case of Bac Giang province

PurposeOne Commune One Product (OCOP) program, a rural economic development program in Vietnam, aims to empower local communities for sustainable social and economic welfare development, protect the environment and preserve tradition. This study aims to employ this program associated with tourism to support small family businesses in rural areas cost-effectively.Design/methodology/approachThis study used the geographic location mapping method to design tourist routes that connect tourism resources with OCOP producers. A stakeholder approach was employed to identify suggested practical works that need to be implemented while developing this tourism initiative.FindingsFour rural districts of Bac Giang Province, a northern province in Vietnam known as the place of various indigenous people live and traditional craft villages. Many cultural and historical tourist sites have been chosen as sample areas for this study. By using Google map, based on the Bac Giang Tourist Map and a list of recognized OCOP products in Bac Giang Province, main tourist sites (16 locations) and small family businesses (known as cooperatives and households) that have OCOP products (17 places) in the four districts have been identified. Four notable tourist routes have been formed to propose four thematic tours (two 1-day tours and two 2 days-1 night homestay tours). Suggestions for related stakeholders to ensure the sustainability of this initiative are provided.Research limitations/implicationsThis study is supposed to be a model of promoting small family businesses through OCOP programs and tourism activities in a sustainable way in Vietnam. The outcome of this study is in line with the stakeholder theory emphasizing the systematic connection of various stakeholders such as employees, suppliers, local communities, government agencies and others towards complex business sustainability. The results of the study cannot conclude the small family businesses in Vietnam because it adopts geographic location mapping alone. Moreover, this study focused on OCOP programs only. Future research can use other methods of primary data collection, especially from tourists' perspectives. Data triangulation can be done to explore and verify the tourist routes that have been formed according to the four thematic tours proposed. Future research could also compare hotels managed by family businesses with non-family businesses.Originality/valueThis study is supposed to be a model of promoting small family businesses through OCOP programs and tourism activities in a sustainable way in Vietnam.

Tight competition in the tourism industry forces tourism managers to find innovations to gain customer loyalty to compete with other tourism competitors. The Chinatown Village Tourism Surabaya strives to build tourist loyalty through improving the quality of tourist objects and tourism promotion.
 The approach used in this community service activity is a cognitive loyalty approach that makes information the primary source of achieving tourist loyalty. Based on the results of community service at the Chinatown Village Tourism in Surabaya, the efforts made to improve the quality of tourist objects are by making tourist maps, murals, and SOP. The efforts made in increasing promotion are by creating a website and implementing Integrated Marketing Communication.

Soviet Tourist Maps: A Short Overview

ABSTRACT In recent years, many maps produced in the former Soviet Union have become available. However, researchers have focused on topographical maps or those of Western cities produced by the General Staff for military use, and less on maps created by GUGK, the state mapping agency, for domestic purposes, including tourism. By contrast, this paper focuses on maps produced for tourists, whether travelling by private car or on an organized rail or bus tour. The 42 maps reviewed take three main forms: those covering a single administrative region, ranging from an oblast to a Soviet republic; those of a specific tourist area or associated with a literary hero; and strip maps connecting major cities. The paper considers the general design and symbology used on these maps, tracing some of the stylistic changes and developments in the quarter-century prior to the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Exploring Concepts of the English-Language Tourism Advertising Discourse in Pre-Pandemic and Pandemic Times

After the Second World War, 2019 definitely became one of the most significant strength tests for humanity that gave a boost to gradual but crucial changes in every person’s mental worldview models, which are particular deeply established constructs of reality. There is no sphere of activity that has not been affected by the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). Tourism became one of those areas most severely affected by the crisis, caused by pandemic conditions and quarantine measures. Consequently, they had to adjust to the new reality of life in circumstances of numerous human rights and freedom restrictions. This fact stipulates the topicality of the given comparative research. Based on the anthropocentric approach, the authors suggest the research methodology that lies in a complex approach to the discourse analysis as a platform for interrelations between the cognitive worldviews of addresser and addressee. Having identified the concepts-autochthons of the modern English-language tourism advertising discourse and determined their regular correlations, the cognitive map of the modern English-language tourism advertising discourse was designed. Having applied the comparative analysis of the cognitive maps of the traditional and modern English-language tourism advertising discourse, the authors determined the main suppositions of the English-speaking consumer of tourism services during pre-pandemic and pandemic periods. Thus, the traditional view of the English-speaking consumer of tourism services is the perception of tourism as the phenomenon related to unhindered, comfortable traveling and family holidays with gastronomic delight, new acquaintances and positive emotions. However, during the pandemic period, for English-speaking tourism services, consumer tourism became necessary for a change of surroundings, like a sip of fresh air that is available only by following quarantine rules and only in those countries open for tourists. Safety and sanitizing become the most critical factors in choosing a tourist location.

Map of brazilian tourism: A study on the categorization of tourist regions in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

This study analyzes the Categorization of Tourist Municipalities in the Rio Grande do Sul, and discusses the process of regionalization of tourism in the State and how tourism has impacted the development of the localities of Rio Grande do Sul that are part of the Brazilian Tourism Map, in light of the performance of their respective tourism economies. For this, an exploratory and descriptive study was carried out, based on secondary data available on the Mapa do Turismo 2019-2021 Portal of the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism. As a result, the categorization of tourist municipalities was created from the Tourism Regionalization Program, dividing the State of Rio Grande do Sul into twenty-seven tourist regions. The results show that in addition to the capital Porto Alegre, the Região das Hortênsias is the most important tourist destination in the state; it is the region with the most abundant offer of accommodation facilities, the one that generates more jobs in the hotel industry, and the one that collects the most taxes in the sector. Also of note are the Costa Doce, the Litoral Norte Gaúcho and the Região da Fronteira.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPACT OF RURAL TOURISM: A CASE STUDY ON KUMBALANGI VILLAGE

It is widely recognized that tourism is a sector with immense potential economic development and employment generation. Hence, tourism is seriously encouraged by the Governments the word over, particularly in the developing nations. International agencies like World Tourism Organization (WTO) estimate that nations like India and China would become the superpowers in the global tourism map by the year 2020. In spite of the excellent tourism resources in India, the country could not utilize its vast potential because only during the last two decades tourism has been getting due attention in India. While China has already attained a prominent position in global tourism, the progress of India has been slower. India has to traverse a long way to catch up with the top players, including China. In respect of Kerala state in particular – one of the states with the highest tourism resources in India – the situation is more chronic as Kerala’s performance in tourism has not at all been commensurate with its enviable tourism resources. A recent study of the present author has revealed the vast prospects of rural tourism for employment creation and economic development in the context of ‘Kumbalangi’ – a rural tourism destination in Ernakulam district of central Kerala and the first model tourism village in India. As a continuation of the earlier study, this paper makes an empirical study of the effects of rural tourism on the environment and local community.
