The introduction of the use of large modular heads in the total hip arthroplasty construct has decreased the prevalence of postoperative dislocation. However, more reports on the failure of these devices in cases of deficient abductor hip muscles, ligamentous laxity, and noncompliant patients have been published. In these cases, especially the elderly low-demand patient, tripolar constrained liners have provided stability in over 90% of cases with 10 year follow-up.
