Scientometric tools in strategising the development of scientific periodicals: the case of the journal Digital Models and Solutions

The present study is dedicated to the development of scientometric tools for the strategic advancement of a scientific periodical, exemplified by the journal of the Ural State University of Economics, “Digital Models and Solutions”. The research involved a compre hensive analysis of the publication activity and thematic profile of this journal, as well as a general statistical examination of Russian academic journals indexed in the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI) that pertain to the upper echelon of the State Rubricator of Scientific and Technical Information category “Informatics”. Primary data collection was conducted using the platforms elibrary.ru, CyberLeninka and CrossRef. The data analysis and visuali zation were performed utilizing the R programming language. The construction of thematic networks was carried out using the VOSviewer software, while additional visualization of certain results was executed using Scimago Graphica. The findings of the study identify the current positioning of the journal “Digital Models and Solutions” among scientific publi cations in informatics, define target scientometric indicators for its prospective growth, and propose specific recommendations for the strategic development of the journal, aimed at enhancing its competitiveness and scholarly impact.

John Hick’s Theodicy of Moral and Spiritual Development and a Critical Examination of Theodicy

John Hick is a significant philosopher known for his innovative ideas in religious thought and theology, particularly through his ‘theodicy of moral and spiritual development’. He redefines human existence as a spiritual education process orchestrated by God, suggesting that the world is created for humanity’s spiritual growth. Hick interprets pain and evil as integral parts of a divine plan, positing that these challenges allow individuals to develop through the exercise of free will. This perspective departs from traditional theistic views, framing evil as a necessary tool for spiritual advancement while maintaining the absolute goodness of God. However, Hick’s theories face criticism, particularly regarding the notion that all human pain serves an educational purpose. Critics argue that experiencing evil can result in trauma, and not all suffering fosters spiritual development. This contention highlights the limitations of Hick’s theodicy in addressing contemporary issues in religion, morality, and social trauma. Despite these criticisms, Hick’s ideas remain influential, sparking discussions among theologians and moral philosophers about the relationship between suffering, spiritual growth, and the dynamics within these fields. His work continues to inspire new approaches to understanding religion and spiritual development.

Sociological perspective on migration in South Africa

This paper examines the socio-economic dimensions of population migration, emphasising its role as a vital social process within the broader societal framework. Employing a structural-functional approach, the study highlights how migration is shaped by and contributes to societal structures, norms, and cultural dynamics. Migration is influenced by socio-structural and cultural factors, reflecting the interconnectedness of institutions and societal conditions. For instance, urban industrial societies, characterised by institutional and structural compatibility, encourage rapid spatial mobility and long-distance migration. Conversely, traditional rural agrarian societies favour limited mobility and slower migration rates. Drawing on Durkheim’s theory of social evolution, the paper underscores migration’s transformative impact on society. It facilitates the transition from segmented, mechanically organised societies to complex, interdependent ones with advanced divisions of labour. This evolution signifies migration’s role as a driver of societal progress and adaptation. Secondary data analysis reveals that socio-cultural considerations, including family circumstances, are as influential as economic factors in migration decisions. The paper argues for government initiatives that promote social cohesion and regional integration to enable equitable migration opportunities. Such policies are essential for harnessing migration’s potential as a tool for societal advancement. By addressing the interplay of social, cultural, and economic factors, the study provides a nuanced understanding of migration as a dynamic and socially conditioned phenomenon. This research contributes to the discourse on population mobility by linking structural-functional theory with contemporary migration dynamics and policy implications.

Transitioning to Electric UTVs: Implications for Assembly Tooling

This case report explores the UTVs (utility terrain vehicles) transition from internal combustion engines to electric drive and how the shift will impact the assembly tooling industry. A multiple-case study at manufacturing plants was complemented by an exploratory survey with key stakeholders in the industry. The findings showed that the transition to electric drive is still in its infancy and is likely to accelerate soon. Electric vehicles were generally found to contain fewer components and thus have fewer applications for tightening tools in their assembly. Much of the difference comes from the fact that electric engines require far fewer tightening operations compared to internal combustion engines. However, the assembly of electric components and battery packs requires new advanced tooling solutions. When transitioning to electric drives, manufacturers were found to source their battery packs and electric engines most commonly from external suppliers. This can displace the tooling industry’s business within the segment. Several opportunities and challenges for assembly tool suppliers were identified. Firstly, the transition to electric drive will likely generate significant tooling needs on the manufacturers side. Electric vehicles tend to require more advanced tools and solutions, which likely will benefit premium tool suppliers with Industry 4.0 solutions. There are, however, long-term challenges as electric UTVs have fewer components and fewer tightenings in their assembly process. One long-term opportunity that could potentially offset the decline in tightenings within final assembly is battery pack assembly. This process does not only require a lot of advanced tightenings, but there are also opportunities for other joining techniques. Thus, the assembly tooling business’ biggest opportunities within the UTV industry are likely to shift from the vehicle’s final- to battery pack assembly.

Impact Study on the Implementation of CAL-DEFLL’s Research Writing, Editing, Proofreading, and Orientation on Layout Tools for Publication Purposes Training 2023-2024

This study investigates the positive impact of extensive training in research writing, editing, proofreading, and publication layout tools on educators’ skills and career advancement. The findings reveal significant improvements in participants’ research writing abilities and confidence in the editing and proofreading processes, with respondents expressing high satisfaction with the support received from editors. Recommendations emphasize the importance of ongoing learning and the pursuit of additional resources to further refine these skills. Participants are encouraged to advocate for continued training programs within their institutions, with an appeal for administrative support to enhance professional development opportunities. The training not only equips educators with essential tools for academic advancement but also fosters a deeper understanding of research practices that benefit their students and the wider academic community. This study highlights the transformative potential of structured training programs in enhancing educational outcomes and promoting career growth.

Mentoring experiences and career‐related outcomes of highly skilled migrant women in Australia: A qualitative study

AbstractMentoring is a powerful tool for career advancement. Highly skilled migrant women generally face employment barriers in Australia due to multilevel barriers, categorized into macro (Australian government visa policy), meso (discrimination at the workplace), and micro (individual factors) levels. However, limited studies have explored the mentoring lived experiences of highly skilled migrant women in developing their careers in the Australian labor market. Therefore, this research explores the mentoring experiences through conducting semi‐structured qualitative interviews with 27 highly skilled migrant women. The analysis identified three mentoring benefits: developing careers, gaining specialized skills, and fostering personal growth. Highly skilled migrant women were supported in their personal and professional careers through the mentoring sessions, whether in structured or unstructured conversations. These novel findings contribute to the migrant employment and career literature in terms of filling the empirical gap, as well as providing meso (managerial) and micro implications.

Optimizing Efficiency: A Comparative Analysis of Project Management Tools with a Business Case Study of Trello Implementation

This paper provides functionality, usability, and suitability for various business environments of several well- known project management software are all thoroughly compared in this study. This review aims to highlight each tool's advantages and disadvantages while providing useful advice for companies looking to streamline their project management processes. The paper includes a business case study that focuses on the use of Trello in a digital marketingcompany in addition to comparative analysis. The company used Trello to improve its project management skills after encountering difficulties with task tracking, communication, and project deadlines. The installation of Trello is described in depth in the paper, from initial setup and customization to staff acceptance and training, including the incorporation of key performance indicators (KPIs) to gauge the tool's effectiveness. Task completion rate, project delivery time, customer happiness, teamwork, and campaign success indicators are among the KPIs considered in this study. The results show that task management and teamwork have significantly improved, leading to better project outcomes. Nevertheless, difficulties including early staff reluctance, a learning curve, and Trello's constrained reporting features were also faced and resolved. Ultimately, this paper addresses the challenges and solutions that come up during the implementation process and shows how choosing the appropriate project management tool may change company processes, increase team productivity, and deliver measurable advantages. Intraoperative transfontanelle ultrasonography for pediatric patients.

Cerebral blood flow (CBF) plays a vital role in delivering cerebral oxygen, and the accurate assessment of CBF is crucial for the intraoperative management of critically ill infants. Although the direct measurement of CBF is challenging, CBF velocity (CBFV) can be assessed using transcranial Doppler. Recent advances in point-of-care ultrasound have introduced brain ultrasound as a feasible intraoperative option, in which transfontanelle ultrasonography (TFU) has been applied to measure the CBFV through the anterior fontanelle. However, the intraoperative application of TFU in pediatric patients remains limited. The present review highlights the procedural aspects and clinical applications of TFU for anesthetic and intensive care management in pediatric patients. TFU facilitates the visualization of cerebral vessels and allows a noninvasive assessment of cerebral hemodynamics. The clinical significance of TFU involves its usefulness in various clinical scenarios, including monitoring CBF during cardiac surgery, assessing fluid responsiveness, and estimating intracranial pressure. TFU also enables the detection of cerebral emboli and the evaluation of anatomical abnormalities such as hydrocephalus or intracranial hemorrhage. TFU has demonstrated potential as an invaluable tool in pediatric care, despite limited familiarity among anesthesiologists. Additional research is needed to explore the associations between CBF and clinical outcomes, focusing on autoregulation, the impact of physiological changes, the associations of TFU findings with other brain monitoring tools such as electroencephalography, cerebral oximetry, and the implications of microemboli. TFU is a significant advancement and valuable tool for noninvasively assessing cerebral hemodynamics and CBF in pediatric patients with open fontanelles.

Challenges in building scholarly knowledge graphs for research assessment in open science

Abstract Open science has revolutionized scholarly communication and research assessment by introducing research data and software as first-class citizens. Scholarly knowledge graphs (SKGs) are expected to play a crucial role in generating research assessment indicators being able to aggregate bibliographic metadata records and semantic relationships describing all research products and their links (e.g., citations, affiliations, funding). However, the rapid advance of open science has led to publication workflows that do not adequately support and guarantee the authenticity of products and metadata quality required for research assessment. Additionally, the heterogeneity of research communities and the multitude of data sources and exchange formats complicate the provision of consistent and stable SKGs. This work builds upon the experience gained from pioneering and addressing these challenges in the OpenAIRE Graph SKG. The aim is twofold and broader. First, we identify obstacles to the creation of SKGs for research assessment caused by the state-of-the-art publishing workflows for publications, software, and data. Second, we describe repurposing SKGs as tools to monitor such workflows to identify and heal their shortcomings, taking advantage of tools, techniques, and practices that support the actors involved, namely research communities, scientists, organizations, data source providers, and SKG providers, to improve the Open Science scholarly publishing ecosystem.

Novel sensorized additive manufacturing-based enlighted tooling concepts for aeronautical parts

This paper presents lightweight tooling concepts based on additive manufacturing, with the aim of developing advanced tooling systems as well as installing sensors for real-time monitoring and control during the anchoring and manufacturing of aeronautical parts. Leveraging additive manufacturing techniques in the production of tooling yields benefits in manufacturing flexibility and material usage. These concepts transform traditional tooling systems into active, intelligent tools, improving the manufacturing process and part quality. Integrated sensors measure variables such as displacement, humidity and temperature allowing data analysis and correlation with process quality variables such as accuracy errors, tolerances achieved and surface finish. In addition to sensor integration, additive manufacturing by directed energy arc and wire deposition (DED-arc) has been selected for part manufacturing. The research includes the mechanical characterisation of the material and the microstructure of the material once manufactured by DED-arc. Design for additive manufacturing" principles guide the design process to effectively exploit the capabilities of DED-arc. These turrets, equipped with sensors, allow real-time monitoring and control of turret deformation during clamping and manufacturing of aeronautical parts. As a first step, deformation monitoring is carried out within the defined tolerance of ± 0.15, which allows a control point to be established in the turret. Future analysis of the sensor data will allow correlations with process quality variables to be established. Remarkably, the optimised version of the turret after applying DED technology weighed only 2.2 kg, significantly lighter than the original 6 kg version. Additive manufacturing and the use of lightweight structures for fixture fabrication, followed by the addition of sensors, provide valuable information and control, improving process efficiency and part quality. This research contributes to the development of intelligent and efficient tool systems for aeronautical applications.

High-Speed Stress Field Measurement In A Soft Substrate During Droplet Impact

In this study, we utilized high-speed photoelastic tomography to quantify dynamic stress fields within a soft substrate during droplet impact. This manuscript details the measurement technique, which employs a high-speed polarization camera and the principles of photoelastic tomography. Our method successfully enabled the quantitative measurement of dynamic stress fields in a soft substrate during droplet impact. Additionally, we conducted an analysis of the impact force derived through the spatial integration of the measured stress field. The discussion explored the interplay between the maximum impact force, droplet viscosity, and substrate elasticity. Our findings indicate that the maximum impact force 𝐹max can be expressed as a function with a self-similar variable of 𝑅𝑒 / 𝐶𝑎^2 , where 𝑅𝑒 is Reynolds number representing the droplet inertial force and droplet viscous force and 𝐶𝑎 is Cauchy number representing the ratio of the droplet inertial force and substrate elastic force. This combination, 𝑅𝑒 / 𝐶𝑎^2 , represents the relationship between the relaxation time of droplet and substrate deformation ( 𝜂/ 𝐸), the contact time of the droplet (𝑅 / 𝑉), and the ratio of substrate elastic force to droplet inertial force. Consequently, the maximum impact force 𝑅𝑒 / 𝐶𝑎^2 is determined by the balance between the relaxation and contact times. We believe that our developed method will significantly enhance the understanding of droplet impact phenomena. Furthermore, it holds potential for broader applications in various engineering processes, such as analyzing stress distribution in materials caused by liquid jet impact and studying cavitation bubbles in viscoelastic materials. This method's ability to provide detailed quantitative measurements of dynamic stress fields offers a valuable tool for future research and technological advancements in related fields.

Is it safe to use ovarian follicular fluid from cows seropositive for brucellosis in the production of invitro embryos?

Animal reproduction biotechniques are important tools for the technological advancement of livestock, as they allow the selection of the reproductive potential of superior quality females and males; however, infectious diseases that have a predilection for the reproductive system can be a hindrance for the use of these technologies. Therefore, the present study aimed to detect Brucella spp. in the ovarian follicular fluid of brucellosis-positive bovine cows. A total of 47 bovine ovarian follicular fluid aspirates from cows, positive in tests for brucellosis and from Brucella-positive herd, were submitted to PCR. The primers used in the PCR were specific to the genus Brucella (bcsp31 gene). All 47 bovine aspirates were negative for Brucella spp. 0.00% (95% CI: 0.00-4.00%). Our results demonstrated that Brucella spp. was absent in the ovarian follicular fluid from seropositive cows, which indicates that Brucella spp.-infected cows could be used for reproductive biotechnologies carried out with follicular aspirates. Future studies are needed to more precisely evaluate the feasibility and safety of using these oocytes from brucellosis-seropositive cows to transfer embryos to heifers/cows not infected by Brucella, aiming to produce calves free of the infection.

Innovating Library Services: Co-Creation, Experimentation, and Enhanced Business Value Tool for Technological Advancements

ABSTRACT This article provides entrepreneurs with information about library services and investigates the function of an Enhanced Business Value Calculator in identifying patrons who may be interested in participating in co-creation-driven experimental technology adoptions in libraries. By identifying the most productive users, the librarian could invite them to participate in the co-creation process, which results in more collaborative and knowledge-based technology experimentations. Patrons (high-performing users and their peers) actively participate in the design, execution, and post-experimentation phases of the experimentation process continuously through co-creation. Ongoing participation increases patron engagement, transforming patrons into library evangelists who support cooperative trials that result in novel services. The article culminates in a case study that shows how the public libraries in collaboration with the university library strategically experimented with ChatGPT to see if it might be used for its systematic literature review services for the entrepreneurs.

This paper explores the role of attack path modelling (APM) in modern cyber security, addressing the challenges posed by the rapidly evolving digital landscape. This paper presents insights into the current state of cyber security, the practical applications of APM frameworks, and the potential future developments in APM technology.

Why Professional Branding: What difference will it make for me (as Gen Z)?

This article discusses professional branding that is rooted in marketing aimed at helping professionals differentiate themselves from others through personal branding to project their uniqueness and related values. It streamlines the process behind creating a robust profile that enhances simple elements of a resume by providing distinctive information to corporations or target markets. Furthermore, the article highlights the two broad theoretical underpinnings of personal branding: marketing-based and self-presentation behaviors. Marketing-based definitions frame the individual as a product to be marketed, while self-presentation-based definitions emphasize the formation of a person's public persona through strategic relationship management. Additionally, the article portrays personal branding as a defined set of individual characteristics, attributes, values, and beliefs crafted into a narrative and imagery that establishes a competitive advantage by influencing the perceptions of a targeted audience. It concludes that professional branding is an effective personal tool for individual differentiation and advancement in a highly globalized employment environment, particularly for Gen Z individuals with Arab cultural backgrounds in STEAM professional fields.

An Innovative Pipe Inspection Tool Utilizing Electromagnetic Resonance Coupling and Machine Learning

This paper describes an advanced tool that uses electromagnetic resonance coupling and machine learning techniques to detect and characterize metal loss on the inner surface of a metallic pipe. The proposed tool uses a transmitter coil placed along the axis of the pipe and four sensor coils installed around the transmitter coil. Any defect on the pipe surface leads to changes in the impedance of the transmitter and sensor coils as well as in the mutual coupling between them, thus creating a detectable variation in the outputs of one or multiple sensor coils. An artificial neural network is developed to reconstruct two-dimensional pipe cross sections and to completely characterize the defects using these variations. The proposed tool is tested and validated via simulations and data collected using an experimental prototype. Results show that the tool can fully characterize the size, location (azimuthal angle), and level (thickness) of metal loss.

Engaging Beyond Academia: Exploring Non-English Majors' Motivations for English Language Community Participation in Indonesia

This study explores the motivations and experiences of non-English major students participating in an English language community at Institut Syekh Abdul Halim Hasan Binjai, Indonesia, where English proficiency is viewed as a crucial tool for personal, educational, and professional advancement. The research, conducted through in-depth interviews with 18 volunteer participants from diverse academic fields such as Sharia Banking, Sharia Economics, Sharia Economic Law, Family Law, Islamic Education, and Early Childhood Islamic Education, reveals that the English community plays a pivotal role in fostering language development. It provides a supportive and immersive environment that facilitates English practice, boosts confidence, and enhances cultural engagement. Moreover, the findings highlight the significant impact of instructors in motivating students by creating a pressure-free atmosphere and encouraging continuous professional development. The study concludes that English language communities, complemented by tailored instructional strategies, are effective in enhancing English learning for non-English majors, empowering them to meet their varied goals and succeed in global settings.
