Exploring the Impact of Media Content on Social Media Engagement Through Comment Analysis

This study investigates audience participation on the social media platforms of Kantipur Daily, Sagarmatha Radio, and Nepal Television using survey data collected in 2024. A review of comments on Facebook and X(Twitter) indicated that positive feedback is primarily focused on sports and social/health/lifestyle news Moreover, opinions and economic news receive relatively less attention than political news. The study highlights particular areas that need more research and offers insightful information about audience dynamics in the context of digital communication. This finding emphasizes the value of social media as a political communication tool, which is especially clear from the positive comments on Political News. Additionally, despite certain restrictions, the results show how the communication landscape is changing and how social media is improving news accessibility and content quality. The finding indicates that social media has become a new arena for public affairs, and its results show that Facebook is more widely used than X.

Сучасні тенденції розвитку комунікаційної діяльності як інструменту публічного адміністрування

The article analyzes the communication paradigm of relations between government and society. The main functions of state communication are analyzed. Different stages of the communicative process are considered. Modern approaches in the field of management of political and communicative processes in government bodies are highlighted. Attention is drawn to the complication of the social structure and connections, the increase of non-state participants in the political process, the formation of the infrastructure of the information society, and the growing role of horizontal connections, which require new approaches in managing political processes. The focus of the scientific article is on new communication practices and the possibilities of their use in political activity, among which strategic management technologies and PR activities, crowdsourcing technology, Internet technologies, and network communities stand out. On the one hand, new information technologies can significantly transform the modern communication practices of authorities, contributing to the establishment of rigid forms of power based on subordination and subject-object relations. On the other hand, information can be used to form a new image of power, which received the concept of “soft power” in the literature, using “soft technologies”. In modern democratic states, for the most part, the interaction of authorities with the objects of the socio-political process is ensured by using political communication tools and developing feedback mechanisms. The role of communication relations in the public administration system is growing, and the communication component of political reality is changing and becoming increasingly complicated. Legitimate interaction mechanisms between authorities and society are now formally established in Ukraine. However, their effectiveness is constantly questioned by both political scientists and the very objects of the socio-political process. The strategic transformations currently taking place in the country’s political life, following a change during political and socio-economic development, also suggest a change in the political and communication component of the political process. At the same time, the government itself at the highest level puts forward new requirements for political communication of the authorities, which consist of a reorientation to an open discussion of the strategies and directions of the country’s development, as well as a transition to an open and interactive format of interaction. Twitter and politics: a framing analysis of Maryam Nawaz and Imran Khan's social media discourse

This study explores the framing strategies employed by influential Pakistani political figures, Imran Khan, and Maryam Nawaz, on Twitter. By adopting Hallahan's framing theory as an analytical framework, we analyze their tweets to reveal how they strategically shape political narratives and influence public perceptions. The study enhances our understanding of the interplay between political communication and political identities, shedding light on the nuanced strategies used by political actors to construct persuasive narratives. Our findings provide evidence of Twitter's significant role as a powerful tool for political communication and discourse in the Pakistani context. This research contributes to the broader landscape of Pakistani political communication and the intersection between social media, politics, and framing strategies.

British media policy: Regulations, management, strategies and approaches

The great powers utilized media as a tool of political communication and propaganda after the First World War. The leading role of propaganda during the Second World War enabled them to use media and develop media policy. The United Kingdom, as a pioneer of political communication, used the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in order to influence public opinion. The BBC has developed since its inception and now plays an inimitable role in the UK media policy and diplomacy. This article examines the British media policy including regulations, approaches, management and strategies to clarify how the United Kingdom designs and operates its media-based policies in order to play effectively in the media back grounds. It uses the documentary method to answer the questions: what are the organizational and management structures, regulations, strategies and approaches of the British media policy? And how has the British media policy been developed to surmount the media regulation problems and challenges? This research indicates that the development of a smart-organized and well-regulated system of media policy enables the United Kingdom to utilize media to promote the priorities of the British foreign policy and influence public opinion around the world as well as to play a crucial role in media wars to protect its interests in international system.

Utilizing Media Network and Big Data on Presidential Election’s Winning: A Case Study

Background: Media and big data can be used as a political communication tool to win the presidential election, as in the case study of the Jokowi-Ma'ruf Amin pair who made optimal use of these two tools to win the 2019 presidential election contest. With big data, the successful team moves more efficiently and on target in attracting potential voters in the 2019 Presidential Election. Aim: To analyze the use of media networks and big data by the Jokowi-Ma'ruf Amin pair in the 2019 Presidential Election. Method: This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a literature study method. Self-study review dipakai penulis dalam menyajikan topik yang dibahas dengan pemahaman atas subjek penelitian. Findings: In the case study of the Jokowi-Ma'ruf Amin candidate pair, the utilization of media networks and the use of big data to map the battle areas in the 2019 Presidential Election contestation, has brought the candidate pairs Joko Widodo and Ma'ruf Amin (as political actors supported by party institutions) bearer politics) to be the winner in the political contestation. This is none other than because the success team of the Jokowi-Ma'ruf Amin candidate pair has paid attention to all aspects to win in the political contest, and took steps to involve media both digital and non-digital to the fullest, and utilized big data analysis in determining steps in the campaign.

Hate speech on social media against German mayors: Extent of the phenomenon, reactions, and implications

AbstractDrawing on an online survey of mayors from the German federal state of Baden‐Wuerttemberg this article analyses (1) to what extent social media is used abusively at the municipal level, (2) how mayors react to hate speech and (3) whether the experience of such insulting comments and threats is correlated with their perception of social media as a tool for political communication. The analysis shows that hateful comments are part of the social media experience on the local level. 53.9% of the mayors have at least once experienced personal insults and hostilities on social media in their role as politicians. The majority of them (56.7%) ignored the hate speech without reaction. Significantly fewer reacted more actively: 29.8% responded to the insulting message, 5.4% blocked the hater, and 8.2% filed a judicial complaint. The statistical analysis shows that mayors who use social media in a more professional way are more likely to react to hate speech in such an active manner. Moreover, the experience of hate speech and particularly an active type of reacting are found to be positively related to mayors' perceptions of how useful they consider social media to be for political communication.

Political Communication of the Head of Pugu Village Reviewed from the Perspective of Communicator Structure Patterns, Messages, Channels, Communican and Effect

This article aims to explore and describe how the political communication of the Head of Pugu Semurup Village, Air Warm Barat District, Kerinci Regency was selected from the perspective of Communicator, Message, Channel, Communican and Effect as village head for the period 2021-2027. This type of research uses qualitative research using descriptive methods. Data collection is done through observation and interviews. Research informants were Defrizal and the Success Team, community leaders and Facebook followers of @Pugu Change Movement. The findings of Defrizal's research are using the Facebook media @Pugu Change Movement as a political communication tool so that it differentiates it from other candidates. Judging from the Communicator, Message, Channel, Communican and Effect, it shows Defrizal's political communication, the elected village head namely: first, the Pugu Semurup village head and his team of successes act as a source or communicator. Second, the delivery of political messages to the community, the message was conveyed in the form of a vision and mission by the village head Defrizal and the success team to the community. Third, political communication occurs through mass media or channels, namely the transmission of political communication with primary media in the form of structured words and the use of social media via Facebook. Fourth, the communicator or recipient of the message, namely the community or residents of Pugu Semurup Village as the target of the campaign. Fifth, the effects or consequences arising from the Head of Defrizal Village and the Success Team, namely attracting the attention of the people of Pugu Semurup Village to vote.

Public diplomacy as political communication in Albania

Public diplomacy represents an important activity that serves national interests and comes as a function of the development of the country and its people. The importance of public diplomacy is increasing, especially when considering the current global context – technological, digital, economic developments, interconnections, and interactions at multilateral levels. In Albania, little is known about public diplomacy, its role, and functions, how it is constructed and how it is represented through various initiatives. The study on Public Diplomacy as a Political Communication Tool in Albania aims to provide a general overview of public diplomacy in Albania, initiatives and activities taken in support of public diplomacy, and the role of public diplomacy in the development of the country and the benefits associated with it. For the realization of this study, a mixture of research methods was used, including desk review of exiting literature and key strategic documents, and interviews conducted with the public to assess public perception and knowledge on public diplomacy. The results show efforts made in years to engage in public diplomacy with countries all over the world, as a strategic intervention to promote the country’s development. It furthers shows the low levels of recognition and knowledge of the wider public about public diplomacy in country. The study highlights that public diplomacy in Albania is in the steps of its development and yet to consolidate.

On the issue of choosing optimal ways to overcome crisis phenomena in the field of political communications against the background of large-scale military aggression

The paper examines the choice of optimal ways of overcoming crisis phenomena in the sphere of political communication in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Special attention was paid to the theoretical explanation of the phenomenon of political communication in terms of its scope and practical usefulness. The article analyzes the features of the conduct of an information war by the Russian Federation. The purpose was to investigate the optimal ways of overcoming crisis phenomena (large-scale military aggression) by means of the tool of political communication. The article is based on the use of two types of research methods: general scientific (analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction) and special political (structural-functional, historical, etc.). The obtained results allow us to conclude that, on the basis of the analysis of the Russian-Ukrainian war, communication solutions should be aimed at fulfilling three tasks: neutralizing negative information, editing it and disseminating alternative information. The work of communicators during the war has certain limitations caused by their subordination to the military command. Definitely, the problem of the Russian-Ukrainian war demonstrated the existence of a considerable number of problematic issues in political communication in Ukraine and the world.

The Pandemic Factor

Abstract This article examines how and why the covid-19 pandemic featured as a central issue in the Alternative for Germany's 2021 Bundestag election campaign. Using a wide range of political communication tools, the radical right party's opposition to public health policies against the pandemic ranged from a critique of hygienic measures to hosting coronavirus denialism and conspiracy myths suggesting that “the elite” had manufactured “corona hysteria” to subjugate the German people. Mirroring its general radicalization process toward an anti-system movement party, the AfD's campaign primarily gave voice to an ideologically driven, conspiracist, and authoritarian-nationalist core electorate, which has its center of gravity in the East. In the environment of an emerging “pandemic divide,” the party also sought to appeal to a robust minority of corona skeptics. More generally, the AfD's campaign points to the still underresearched role of science denialism and conspiracy myths in radical right mobilizations of a counterfactual age.

Tiktok Content in Communication Strategy: Politics of the 15th General Election in Malaysia

Political communication is the exchange of the latest news between the government and society or vice versa. The purpose of political communication is to get support or votes from the people. Nowadays, social media is increasingly important in political communication because social media can be used by anyone interested without any limitations. Therefore, this study aims to examine the ability of TikTok as one medium of political communication strategy. This study looks at the extent by which the main youth political leaders in Malaysia optimize the use of TikTok as a political communication strategy, evaluates the adaptation of political leaders with TikTok in terms of content, identifies the type of interaction with TikTok users, evaluates the political communication strategies through TikTok and the effectiveness of TikTok use in influencing improvement political supporters ahead of GE-15. This study selected two TikTok accounts, namely Y.B. Syed Saddiq and Shahril Sufian Hamdan as a study sample. The results of the study indicated the significant advantage of Y.B Syed Saddiq in using TikTok as a political communication tool in comparison to Shahril Sufian Hamdan. The youth-friendly interaction demonstrated by Y.B. Syed Saddiq made him one of the most highly followed politicians with successful message sharing. Shahril Sufian Hamdan and other politicians should adapt to a new era in efforts to political communication. Politicians should use social media more effectively and post more friendly content to social media users and increase interaction activities with them. Keywords: content; Malaysia; politic; TikTok

The current state of development of socio-political relations draws the attention of many researchers and experts to the application of effective mechanisms to counter threats aimed at violating the stability of the state. The use of information means of influence and methods of information transfer in political communication is becoming a priority both at the internal and international levels. Information becomes a weapon, a means of influence, pressure, manipulation aimed at achieving socio-economic and political goals. Information manipulation is one of the specific methods and means of forming conscious, ideological, political narratives in the process of political communication. Information manipulation should be considered as one of the tools of political communication, the action that forms the influence (pressure) on a person, a group with the aim of imposing the will to act or inaction. Political communication is considered as a field of information manipulation aimed at spreading the influence of political groups or individuals to a particular part of society in order to use influence for achieving goals. Manipulation of information should be considered as a process of transmitting and receiving information with the aim of using it to realize one’s own political goals.

Transformation and creation of new formats of communication processes in the conditions of modern information society

Transformation and creation of new formats of rapidly developing communication processes and technologies in the conditions of modern information society is carried out in the direction of increasing the volume of visual information, not only complementing verbal forms of representation of the world, but also dominating the processes of political practices. Communication processes that ensure the functioning of political institutions in most situations are visually attributed and focused not so much on speech and auditory as on visual techniques, which allows us to assert that they are the main tool of political communication and a means of constituting political reality. This article examines the basic concepts of political and communication processes that have developed in modern Russian science. The high role of visualization as the latest communication technology is determined. It is concluded that the transformation and creation of new formats of rapidly developing political communication processes and technologies in the conditions of modern information society is carried out in the direction of increasing the volume of visual information, not only complementing the verbal forms of representation of the world, but also dominating the processes of political practices.

Propaganda Cinema As a Polıtıcal Communication Tool and an Example from the Early Republic: "Heart of Turkey: Ankara"

En basit anlamıyla siyasal iletişim, bir ikna etme sürecidir. Ancak “propaganda” söz konusu olduğunda bu ikna süreci, hem gerçeğin hem de kitlelerin zihinsel düzleminin taammüden ve sistematik olarak yeniden inşasına dönük bir çabaya karşılık gelmektedir. İnsanın iktidar mücadelesinin kaçınılmaz bir tezahürü olan propagandaya has tür ve tekniklerin etkisi, kitlesel ölçekli propaganda aygıtlarının sahneye çıkması ile doruğa ulaşmıştır. Bu süreçte, başlı başına ideolojik bir aygıt olan sinema, propagandatif pratiklere uygunluğu ile öne çıkmaktadır. Pek çok ülkede filmler, mevcut politik düzeni tahkim etmekte ya da alternatif politik hareketlere ilham kaynağı olmaktadır. Politik süreçlerin ve ulusal kimlik inşasına yönelik gayretlerin sinemasal anlatılarla desteklendiği yirminci yüzyılın buhran dönemlerinde, genç Türkiye Cumhuriyeti de, bir eğitim ve aydınlatma faaliyeti olarak gördüğü sinemanın propaganda etkisinden istifade etmek istemiştir. Bu amaçla bizzat Atatürk’ün talimatı ile Cumhuriyet’in kuruluşunun onuncu yılı kutlamaları çerçevesinde, Sovyet yönetmenler Sergei Yutkeviç ve Lev Arnstam tarafından çekilen “Türkiye’nin Kalbi: Ankara” (1934) filmi, Yeni Türkiye’nin kendisini ülke içi ve dışında tanıtma çabasına sinemasal bir katkı sunmuş; ayrıca Cumhuriyet’in ilk yıllarına dair paha biçilmez bir görsel materyal oluşturmuştur. Bu çalışmada, bir siyasal iletişim aracı olarak propaganda sinemasının gelişimi ve önemi üzerinde durulmuş; ülkemizde bu alanda sayılı örneklerden birini oluşturan ve Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin modernleşme yolculuğuna sinemasal bir tanıklık sunmakta olan “Türkiye’nin Kalbi: Ankara” filmi, anlatısına hâkim olan propagandatif unsurlar bakımından ele alınmaya çalışılmıştır.

Few voices, strong echo: Measuring follower homogeneity of politicians’ Twitter accounts

Politicians have discovered Twitter as a tool for political communication. If information provided by politicians is circulated in ideologically segregated user networks, political polarization may be fostered. Using network information on all 1.78 million unique followers of German Members of Parliament by October 2018, follower homogeneity across politicians and parties is measured. While the overall homogeneity is low, politicians of the AfD—a right-wing populist party—stand out with very homogeneous follower networks. These are largely driven by a small group of strongly committed partisans that make up around 7% of the party’s but around 55–75% of the average AfD politician’s followers. The findings add to the literature by showing potentially unequal distributions of network segregation on Twitter. Furthermore, they suggest that small groups of active users can multiply their influence online, which has important implications for future research on echo chambers and other online phenomena.

Modern democratic states seek to build partnership relations with civil society, realizing that reliance on a mature civil society is one of the conditions for social strength and stability of the political system of society. The issue of relations between state power and civil society is one of the key issues of society, on which its political structure and stability depend. This is due to the fact that civil society determines the content of state power, and the nature of state power, in turn, affects the development of civil society. In the political space, information is the dominant basis of management patterns. The informational identity of the authorities and members of state entities and other political groups allows for a harmonious reproduction of the managed system. In political and social life, information turns into a way of uniting people, a form of creating resonance for actors who have freedom. Mass media are transformed from organization as methods of legitimization, and forms of activity, requiring synchronization on an unprecedented scale. It has been established that the tool of political communication as a social network has not been sufficiently researched. However, the potential of using social networks in political practice is very significant, its implementation is manifested in everyday political activity, the functioning of all political institutions. Interaction always involves dialogue. Institutional dialogue is also envisaged between the subjects of public authority (the state and civil society), the purpose of which is to find consensus and mutual understanding. The presence of such a result always implies that common interests have been identified, social priorities have been determined, thoughts and intentions have been agreed upon, and an agreement has been reached on methods, forms and methods. resolution of conflict situations, mutually acceptable legal, political and managerial solutions. Representatives of civil society, demonstrating their ideas to the authorities and defending their rights, should be ready not only for confrontation, but also for constructive opposition and cooperation with the state authorities.

Ideological Manipulation in Twitter Communication: A Critical Stylistic Analysis of Donald Trump's Tweets

Donald Trump’s use of Twitter as a modality to defame opponents, antagonize media outlets and even glorify violence is an enduring legacy for political campaigns, presidential rhetoric and argumentative debates. This nontraditional use of social media as a political communication tool has invited Twitter’s fact-checking editorial decisions, alienated some of Trump’s supporters and attracted worldwide criticism. Using purposive sampling, the present paper employs the ten textual-conceptual functions of critical stylistics to analyze a dataset of Trump’s tweets on domestic and international political issues published between 2011 and 2020 and assembled from the monitor corpus Trump Twitter Archive. The critical stylistic analysis aims at uncovering Trump’s ideological outlook by identifying the extra layer of meaning in which the ideological evaluation is structured and exposing the way in which the resources of language are strategically deployed to influence and ideologically manipulate Trump’s followers’ experience of reality. Analysis reveals a network of lexical, syntactic, semantic and pragmatic choices underlying Trump’s seemingly simple rhetoric. It signposts his ideological evaluation and constructs a world for his followers to desire, believe or fear. The study extends the application of critical stylistics to microblogging channels, with implications both for the linguistic make-up of political communication in Web 2.0 contexts and for the explanatory power of critical stylistics..

THE ROLE OF COUNTER-PATRIARCHY MEDIA MUBADALAH.ID IN SUPPORTING THE ELIMINATION OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE BILL RATIFICATION

The draft on the Elimination of Sexual Violence Law is one of the bills that has been discussed for a long time in indonesia. Various views of the relevant parties were discussed quite a lot in media, both for and againts the bill. Mubadalah.id is a counter-patriarchal media which is one of the instruments and strategies used by women’s movement in Indonesia expressing the importance of ratifying the bill. This study examines the role of Mubadalah.id as a counter-patriarchal media which express the urgency of this ratification. In order to explain the problems, this research has used a descriptive qualitative research method that relies on in-depth interviews with key resources related to the ratification of this bill. Literatur reviews have been carried out to obtain supporting data that will confirm the data from previous interviews. The findings show that Mubadalah.id has a role as a political communication tool for the women’s movement in Indonesia in supporting the ratification of the bill through several strategies: channeling messages regarding the urgency of the passage of the bill; countering the narratives that reject the ratification of the bill; encourage the ratification of the bill by forming opinions supporting the ratification.
