Coates is president of Coates & Jarratt, Inc., a policy research organization specializing in the study of the future. He has worked as a futurist in business, industry, and government for over thirty years. He is an adjunct professor at the George Washington University. Coates and his firm have been extensively involved in the study of the future of work, workplace, and management over the past eight years. His most recent book is Future Work, coauthored with Jennifer Jarratt and John Mahaffie (Jossey-Bass, 1990).
