Vortex trimer in three-component Bose-Einstein condensates

Vortex trimer is predicted in three-component Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC's) with internal coherent couplings. The molecule is made by three constituent vortices which are bounded by domain walls of the relative phases. We show that the shape and the size of the molecule can be controlled by changing the internal coherent couplings.

Class of compact entities in three-component Bose-Einstein condensates

We introduce a class of solitonlike entities in spinor three-component Bose-Einstein condensates. These entities generalize well-known solitons. For special values of coupling constants, the system considered is completely integrable and supports $N$ soliton solutions. The one-soliton solutions can be generalized to systems with different values of coupling constants. However, they no longer interact elastically. When two so-generalized solitons collide, a spin component oscillation is observed in both emerging entities. We propose to call these newfound entities oscillatons. They propagate without dispersion and retain their character after collisions. We derive an exact mathematical model for oscillatons and show that the well-known one-soliton solutions are a particular case.

Soliton Solutions in Three-Component Bose–EinsteinCondensates

We obtain soliton and plane wave solutions for the couplednonlinear Schrödinger equations, which describe thedynamics of the three-component Bose–Einstein condensates by usingthe Hirota method. Meanwhile we find that the system which hasattractive atomic interaction will only possess a shape changing(inelastic) collision property due to intensity redistribution inthe absence of the spin-exchange interaction. As a discussedexample, we investigate the one-soliton, two-soliton solutions andcollisional effects between bright two-soliotn solution, which leadto the intensity redistribution.

Gravitational and collective effects in an output coupler for a Bose-Einstein condensate in an atomic trap

A three-component vector quantum field theory is developed to describe the electronic-spin-resonance interaction of a magnetically trapped Bose-Einstein condensate with a radio frequency field. The theory is directly applied to simulate the recent experiment of Mewes et al. for an output coupler for a Bose-Einstein condensate in a magnetic trap [Phys. Rev. Lett. 78, 582 (1997)]. By employing the mean-field approach, we study the collective dynamics of the multicomponent matter field via the nonlinear Schr\odinger equation. Including the effect of gravity, we study the spin-resonance Rabi oscillations for the three-component Bose-Einstein condensate in three ground-state hyperfine levels and simulate the dynamic expansion of the condensate components coupled out of the magnetic trap.
