O koncepcie mądrości u św. Faustyny. Jakościowa analiza przypadku w świetle badań interdyscyplinarnych

The present paper has an interdisciplinary character and is placed at the crossroads of a few disciplines, namely philosophy, theology and linguistics. Philosophy and theology, namely Christian personalism, constitutes the theoretical background for a qualitative linguistics case study of the original source text The Diary by a contemporary female Polish Catholic mystic and prophetess, Faustina Kowalska. The direct goal is to describe the concept of “wisdom” embedded in her mystical and prophetic written record. The methods and tools have a mixed-character and come from social sciences and humanities (SSH). Both well-established mainstream perspectives and less obvious, complementary approaches coming from the newly emerging sub-disciplines in linguistics, were used. The original, experimental focus is laid upon the qualitative linguistic analysis of the semantic field of a single lexical unit “wisdom” extracted from the original authentic text under the analysis. The results showed the concept of “wisdom” in the spiritual text explored is more extended with comparison with the concepts described by other sciences and that mystical and prophetic spiritual literature, i.e. original source texts are a great source of knowledge of human minds and thinking, in general.

Hadith Analysis of Al-Jallalah: A Crucial Framework for Risk Management in Halal Animal Feed Studies

Hadith are the Prophetic texts that serve as the main reference and guidance for Muslims in their daily life. In the discussion related to the al-Jallalah, two hadiths are commonly identified as references. Nevertheless, based on textual analysis, there are many other hadiths in al-Kutub al-Sittah (The Authentic Six) on the prohibition of al-Jallalah and its meat and milk. This paper aims to identify and analyse all hadith related to the al-Jallalah from al-Kutub al-Sittah using the qualitative method. The discussion focuses on the analysis of the textual Hadith of al-Jallalah that derived from al-Kutub al-Sittah. The study reveals that there are thirteen hadith (13) on the topic of al-Jallalah which specifically related to the prohibition against eating meat, drinking milk, and riding the al-Jallalah animals which derived from Sunan Abi Dawud (9 texts of Hadith), Jami’ al-Tirmidhi (2 texts of Hadith), Sunan al-Nasa’i (1 text of Hadith and Sunan Ibn Majah (1 text of Hadith). In terms of the authenticity of the Prophetic texts pertaining to the al-Jallalah, it is found that out of 13 texts of Hadith, there are eight (8) texts of Hadith Sahih, two (2) texts of Hadith Hasan Sahih, two (2) texts of Hadith Hasan, and only one (1) texts of Hadith Da‘if. It is expected that the findings of this paper could provide useful knowledge and reference related to the prohibition of animals that are categorized as al-Jallalah in al-Kutub al-Sittah (The Authentic Six). Hence, this study establishes a crucial foundation linking hadith analysis of al-Jallalah with risk management in Halal animal feed studies, offering valuable insights and references on this significant Islamic dietary issue.

Navigating Academic Arguments: Teaching Reporting Verbs in Transitional Reading Courses

ABSTRACT Reporting verbs (RVs) are commonly used features in academic texts. While college textbook authors are less likely to be transparent about their views, they frequently employ RVs to signal their attitudes about the claims and findings of others. University students, particularly those placed in transitional reading courses, however, may have limited experience with reading texts that use diverse RVs to add depth and nuance in presenting different arguments and perspectives. To promote students’ academic literacy skills, this paper highlights the importance of RVs and emphasizes their functions in conveying various attitudinal positions in authentic university textbooks. It then offers an instructional approach in which RVs are identified in text discussion to promote reading comprehension. The approach provides explicit instructions on how students could use authentic texts including examples from corpora as guidance for brief writing exercises that stimulate the use of a wide range of appropriate RVs. The paper has implications for helping students develop their authorial voice about reporting the views of others and evaluating the merit of their claims in academic contexts.

Variability of teaching foreign language aerospace terminology to future engineers

Introduction. The accelerated development of knowledge-intensive industries in the aerospace industries requires an influx of highly professional engineers capable of international professional communication. However, mastering highly specialized terminology in a foreign language when teaching students at an aerospace higher education institution remains a weak link in the chain today. The purpose of the study is the scientific substantiation, development and implementation of educational and methodological material for teaching a foreign language to future aerospace engineers based on variable approaches. Materials and methods. The study involved 87 first-year students of the technical departments of the Moscow Aviation Institute (the Russian Federation). Methods of source analysis, sequential experiment, student selfassessment, repeated questioning, comparative analysis, statistical methods (Fisher criterion) were used. Results. A set of exercises has been developed and tested to enhance mastery of a foreign language engineering and environmental vocabulary of aerospace specialties. It was found that the basic request of students is to master highly specialized terminology as a tool for increasing competitiveness (92%) with recognition of the effectiveness of a variable approach to studying the vocabulary of a specialty (97%). The maximum level of assessment of the need to study highly specialized vocabulary for research work (100%) and increased interest in the study of environmental issues based on mastering foreign language terminology (92%) were identified. The highest average value was obtained in students' assessment of the importance of using authentic texts of engineering and environmental orientation (52%), as well as in the growth of interest in participating in scientific conferences on aerospace issues in a foreign language (48%). However, the level of development of listening skills in terms of understanding highly specialized terms when watching video materials remains low (46%). The problem of low motivation of students to independently study specialty materials in a foreign language also requires a solution (62%). Despite the proposed variable approaches, only 57% of respondents are ready to diversify traditional individual forms of learning by working in pairs, mini-groups, and only 64% agree to study in the form of panel discussions and business games. The results of statistical processing of the results based on the Fisher angle coefficient showed the feasibility of using a set of exercises to increase students’ involvement in studying international news (φ*emp = 5.415; p < 0.01), to motivate students to analyze foreign language materials on engineering and environmental issues in addition to basic textbook (φ*emp = 7.413; p < 0.01). Conclusion. The proposed educational and methodological materials for variable teaching of aerospace engineering and environmental vocabulary make it possible to increase the effectiveness of the formation of communication skills in professional international communication in terms of young people’s understanding of the harm from the impact of aerospace on the environment and possible ways to reduce risks.

Spravedlivá řeč O Apolónovi. K průsečíkům performativity a narativní prózy

The study examines the late medieval Old Czech version of the tale of Apollonius of Tyre from the perspective of narratology and traces how an analytical focus on performativity helps to understand its workings. It contextualizes and elucidates the effects of elements in which previous scholarship has recognized innovations in vernacular adaptation over the Latin model. It traces the staging of the conflict of textual authorities and the presentation of speech as a distinctive agent – how it manifests itself, how it thematizes its power and its limits, and what it achieves. It interprets the tale as a stylized reinterpretation of an earlier historical rendering, through the reading of which justice is to be done and the recipients brought to reflect on and control their own emotional responses.

This article draws on analyses of the concept of textual authority, authorial figurations, and the relationship between fiction and nonfiction to offer a new hypothesis about the configuration of narrative voices in Don Quijote. This critical approach focuses specifically on the transition between the eighth and ninth chapters of the First Part in order to explain the nature of the second author as a self-figuration of Cervantes, to justify his intrusion as a resource aimed at avoiding the identification between him and the first author, and to give an account of the voice appearing at the end of the eighth chapter as belonging to Cervantes himself. The narrative voice introduced by Javier Marías in Todas las almas serves as a reference for our argumentation.

Speech Genre of Consolation in the Context of Foreign Language Learning at a Medical University

Empathy, which involves supporting the client, is a mandatory component of doctor-client communication. Sticking to the tactics of consolation in communication allows achieving greater effectiveness of the clinical activity of a medical worker. Since medical discourse as a sample of institutional discourse is characterized by a certain constant pattern, it has been proven that in the context of learning a foreign language it is appropriate to use a genre approach. The involvement of the genre approach in linguistic didactics is also explained by the dependence of the number of speech genres mastered by a foreigner and his level of formation of the secondary language personality. It is proved that consolation is a speech genre. The choice of film discourse for the study is justified by the specificity of the genre and the fact that it is a sample of authentic texts, the effectiveness of the auditory and visual channels of information perception. The "signals" of the use of the consolation genre, vocabulary and grammatical features are described. The verbal means of the main tactics within the secondary genre of consolation are listed. Methods of organizing the teaching of the Ukrainian language according to the genre approach are proposed.

Study of mystical concepts at Farshchian Cultural Complex, Isfahan, with the semantic view

Architectural works can be viewed in different aspects. But so far in two respects has been paid more attention to these works. First, as one of the Seven Arts as a result of the author's artistic creativity (aesthetics) and the second, from the respect of scientific and technical (the highest degree of objectivity). Entire attention to the two mentioned dimensions prevents us from the rest of important aspects of our architectural work analysis. This paper, based on the study of the role of the meaning component in creation place sense and in direction of answering to the questions related to that: the meaning component in each species, including "existing meanings in human’s mind and "the existing meaning in places", make what levels and degrees, is formed that in this regard, the study of " mystical concepts at cultural complex of Isfahan Farshchian” with the semantic view frame in relation of architecture and the world of mysticism" is intended as the main objective of this research. In this study, with the documentary approach by referring to authentic texts, such as the types of the related books, publications and valid scientific research site and analysis of information, the evidence has been presented which indicates the meanings in the minds of human and places through sensory experiences is received and form perception arising awareness through the five senses and then the feeling is associated with perception and lead to a full understanding and significant perceptions. Based on all performed analyses based on the recognition of semantic signs in construction and examines limits of the dependence of form and content in architecture, this result is obtained that it interpretation of the hidden code in the architecture, results in a sense of place that is done according to individual perceptions. However, efforts to achieve the society to comprehensive and fundamental meaning of a work, despite the fluidity of construction meaning and attention to importance of the works criticism should also be accepted.

A Comparative Study of Machine Learning Methods and Text Features for Text Authorship Recognition in the Example of Azerbaijani Language Texts

This paper presents various machine learning methods with different text features that are explored and evaluated to determine the authorship of the texts in the example of the Azerbaijani language. We consider techniques like artificial neural network, convolutional neural network, random forest, and support vector machine. These techniques are used with different text features like word length, sentence length, combined word length and sentence length, n-grams, and word frequencies. The models were trained and tested on the works of many famous Azerbaijani writers. The results of computer experiments obtained by utilizing a comparison of various techniques and text features were analyzed. The cases where the usage of text features allowed better results were determined.

Magazine “Business Spotlight” as the authentic resource for developing English reading skills for higher education students

Employing authentic materials to develop reading skills often leads to difficulty in selecting authentic texts. A variety of researchers point out that the selection of authentic materials is challenging and time-consuming, as it requires choosing a suitable, readable, and exploitable text. Tackling this issue can make the selection process brief and increase the implementation of authentic texts for reading purposes in the ESL classroom. This paper aims to analyze the Business Spotlight magazine as a source of reading texts; consider the benefits of this periodical and how it can facilitate the selection of materials; offer a set of designed reading activities based on an article taken from the Business Spotlight magazine, and investigate ESL university students’ attitude towards the article. The research methodology comprises the theoretical analysis and generalization of scientific literature highlighting the significant factors that contribute to the productive implementation of reading authentic texts. The main tool used to measure third-year university students’ attitudes towards the authentic article was a set of designed activities and a follow-up questionnaire based on a Likert scale. The questionnaire aimed to assess the article according to the main factors of choosing authentic materials, including suitability of the content, readability, exploitability, and presentation. The main findings indicate that the authentic article met students’ needs, with information likely to be applied beyond the classroom. Structurally and grammatically, it was not overly demanding. The article effectively enhanced reading, listening, and speaking skills through tailored activities, fostering student motivation and enjoyment in the learning process. Consequently, the Business Spotlight magazine presents a diverse range of authentic articles reporting news from English-speaking countries. These articles are crafted at various language levels, streamlining the selection process for educators who need not adapt the texts themselves. Business Spotlight articles can be employed at different language levels and for various teaching purposes.

Кластерный анализ лингвистических профилей скрытых сообществ

The aim of the study is to present clusters of profiles of hidden communities based on linguistic parameters. The article analyzes the structure and relationships between the attributes of clusters of community profiles. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that the combination of methods of hierarchical cluster analysis of hidden network communities and analysis of variance will reveal the uniformity/heterogeneity of the author's texts created at the grammatical and lexical levels. Using the Ward method, three clusters of linguistic profiles were identified, each of which was given a formal Silhouette Score. A meaningful assessment of the profiles is presented in the form of appropriate linguistic comments. As a result of the study, it was found that online publications are characterized by variation at the level of syntax, but not at the level of morphology. The proposed community clustering approach can be used to identify potentially dangerous online subcultures and opinion leaders in the online space. As a result of the implementation of this approach, linguistic profiles of communities are complemented by digital sociodemographic information.

Developing corpus literacy: A perspective of Latgalian language and cultural studies

ABSTRACT Corpus literacy has been described as the ability to use the technology of corpus linguistics to investigate language and enhance the language development of students. In recent decades, text and speech corpora for regional and lesser-used languages have increasingly been created, and they are considered an important resource of authentic texts for language and culture studies and learning. The Modern Latgalian Text Corpus (MuLa 2022) and the Modern Latgalian Speech Corpus (MuLaR) are, in this sense, available for researchers, learners and teachers of Latgalian. Researchers, teachers, and students as potential discoverers of language and culture often lack knowledge, skills and practice to work with language corpora. The purpose of this article is therefore to discuss the opportunities of using Latgalian language corpora in language and culture education. In this vein, we call for the development of corpus literacy of researchers and teachers as part of their professional development. In support of this call, we offer suggestions on how to facilitate students’ cultural awareness and foster their proficiency in the Latgalian language through language corpora. These recommendations aim to enrich both the research and teaching of language (socio-onomastics in a cultural context) and culture (folklore concept) with the help of corpus tools.

A Brief Report on the Research Regarding Incorporation of Authentic Art History Texts (19th – First Half of the 20th Century) into Foreign Language Teaching (Courses: “Foreign Language” and “English for Professional Communication”) Carried out at Sergey Andriaka Academy of Watercolor and Fine Arts

The scientific and methodological article focuses on authentic art history texts spanning from the second half of the 19th century to the first half of the 20th century. These texts serve as the foundation for the English teaching methodology tailored for students of Sergey Andriaka Academy of Watercolor and Fine Arts, an approach currently being developed by the author. The research is characterized by a certain degree of scientific novelty, as the majority of these texts are introduced into the educational curriculum of a higher art educational institution for the first time, thereby lending special relevance to the study.For a variety of reasons, the texts in question are of paramount importance for English language instruction. They offer a rich array of source materials to choose from. These include, among others: lectures on painting and sculpture, art masterclasses, catalogues of museum and private collections, artist biographies, academic journals, encyclopedias and dictionaries of painters. Original teaching materials are created on the basis of authentic texts in line with the educational needs of art students.

Polyphony in Text and Discourse: A Cognitive Semantics Multimodal Case Study on Parenthesis and Quotation

Abstract Essentially grounded in Cognitive Semantics and conceived to capture fundamental compositional properties inscribed in (written) text and (spoken) discourse, this study proposes a unifying account of parenthesis and quotation in English. Understood as determinants of conceptual structure in language, these two categories, though ubiquitous in all forms of language use, but so far entirely missing from the Cognitive Semantics, research agenda, are (re-)conceptualized under the aegis of Bakhtin’s polyphony and voice, and Goffman’s decomposition of the speaker as ‘fictive’ polyphony. In achieving this goal, the paper explores via dense, multimodally informed micro-studies of authentic text and discourse how voices are made salient to readers and hearers, scrutinizing various categories of cuing devices. As a corollary, Cognitive Semantics is seen to be developed and enriched, opening it up to transcend the language system, thus paying respect to the ‘total linguistic fact’ in the sense of Silverstein.

The functions of peripheral combinations of N. M. Karamzin's novella "Natalia, the Boyar's Daughter"

The linguistic description of a literary text involves consideration of its semantic structure, by which, following L. A. Novikov, we understand the system of images of the work and the linguistic means of their embodiment in the author's text. Peripheral combinations play a significant role in the arsenal of artistic techniques of N.M. Karamzin, implemented in sentimental novels, and demonstrate primarily the functions of indicating feelings and states, embellishing speech, author's characterization and poetization of prose text. The subject of the study of the analyzed text of N. M. Karamzin's novella "Natalia, the boyar's daughter" is periphrasis as a special means of creating a semantic structure. The relevance of the work is due to the clarification of the status of the periphrase as an important structural element of the sentimental story. The aim of the work was to clarify the concept of periphrasis in the modern and preceding N. M. Karamzin literary tradition and highlight its functions in the texts of the stories. The methodological basis of the study was the work of Russian linguists of the V. V. Vinogradov school, based on a system-functional approach to the analysis of the language of fiction. The conducted research allowed us to conclude that the periphrasis is the basis of N. M. Karamzin's imagery and implements the functions of speech decoration; characterization, in which the periphrasis contains the author's attitude to the hero; stylistically marked periphrastic combinations serve to separate parts of the story, for example, the author's digression and the main text of the story. The novelty of the research lies in clarifying the functions of the periphrasis as the central means of the semantic structure of the sentimental story. Periphrases are becoming one of the new tools for constructing the semantic structure of a prose work of the emerging aesthetics of sentimentalism. The use of periphrases is included in the concept of reforming the Russian language by introducing elements peculiar to the sentimental style of French salon literature into the text, while generally ordering syntax at the level of a simple and complex sentence.

Comparative pedagogy: changing research perspective

Introduction. Given dramatic changes in social, cultural priorities and values taking place across the globe today, with all around changing strategic partners, it becomes apparent that comparative pedagogy desperately needs its methods to be updated. Post modern research paradigm resources are running out. We need new data, approaches, and methods to enhance the comparative analysis. The paper aims to propose rationale for new comparative pedagogy avenues via expanding its subject fields. Methodology. The methods employed show the author’s stand on updating scholarly knowledge in comparative pedagogy. Within the frame of conventional historical approach this research relies on the diachronic and synchronic analysis method, coupled with axiological and cultural approaches and complemented with the contextualization method. The anthropological approach is based on the biographical method. The discursive approach was used as a narrative in the form of commentary of authentic texts – their interpretation, the main source of knowledge in comparative pedagogy. Findings. Modern discourse of comparative research in education contains certain inconsistences which might be put down to an inadequate analysis of upsides and downsides of foreign education system, which eventually restricts our opportunities to rely on overseas experience. It is also true as concerns correlating values demonstrated by foreign practices with national mentality and traditions, use of appropriate conceptual semantics and comparisons. Some questions also arise about the limits of the author’s interpretation. The ways of handling these issues were sought during the review of modern works devoted to the problems of education in different social and cultural contexts. Most problems stem from the language, communication, cultural codes, symbolic forms conveying identity, knowledge and values in Latin America, Middle East, South-East Asia, Africa and some European countries. Conclusion. Comparative pedagogy equipped with updated methods is presented in the paper as one of the up-todate research avenues in interdisciplinary humanities. It helps integrate national education systems allowing for their ethnically and culturally specific differences. A comparative perspective enabled to look into foreign pedagogical experience as another worldview based on historic, cultural, spiritual potential of these countries and their significance. Comparative analysis opened door to a scholarly dialogue in the educational space to promote better understanding and international cooperation.

Personalized Recommendation of English Online Teaching Content Based on Logistic Regression Algorithm

English online teaching content encompasses a wide range of materials designed to facilitate language learning in digital environments. These resources include interactive lessons, video tutorials, audio recordings, quizzes, vocabulary exercises, grammar explanations, and authentic texts such as articles, short stories, and dialogues. The content aims to cover various language skills, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing, catering to learners of different proficiency levels and learning styles. This paper introduces a Cross-Domain Personalized Recommendation System (CDPRS) designed to enhance the delivery of English language teaching content. Leveraging machine learning algorithms and data analytics techniques, the CDPRS tailors recommendations to individual user preferences, learning objectives, and proficiency levels across diverse content domains. Through a series of analyses and evaluations, including regression analysis and simulation studies, the effectiveness and utility of the CDPRS are demonstrated. Results indicate that the system achieves high levels of accuracy (mean accuracy = 0.85), diversity (mean diversity = 0.72), novelty (mean novelty = 0.78), and user satisfaction (mean satisfaction = 0.82) in providing personalized recommendations.

Proposed Framework for enhancing Intercultural Communicative Competence in Bangladeshi ELT textbooks

In an attempt to address the commercial, instrumental, and generalizing aspects of the English for Today (EfT) textbook series, the official ELT textbooks locally produced for Class 1-12, this paper proposes an intercultural communicative framework for their construction and improvement. This framework builds on the elements of previous recommended frameworks from different nations, incorporating essential elements that are crucial in the Bangladeshi context. This study seeks to make clear which components of ELT textbooks should be added in order to enhance Bangladeshi students’ intercultural and communicative competencies based on the shortcoming of the present English for Today textbooks. The framework suggests the textbook should be divided into sections such as pre-text, text, images, and post-text activities. Here the pre-text should be based on knowledge, abridged extracts or authentic texts need to be included from multicultural contexts aligned with comprehensive images and finally post-text activities are intended to develop skills, attitudes and cultural awareness. The authors clearly outlined the roles of the teachers, students, and potential threats in every step of pre-text, text, images, and post-text exercises. To our knowledge, such type of framework has not yet been prepared or published for ELT textbooks in Bangladesh.
