Terminology management in computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools MemoQ as a case study

Today, translation is the systematic thread that brings different civilizations and cultures together and brings them closer together. In the light of the considerable and rapid advances in technology, the responsibilities of the translator or of the translation companies increase on a daily basis. This led software developers to find tools to help the translator achieve those standards and enrich the translation market with new skills to handle them. Among these tools, perhaps most noteworthy is computer-assisted translation (CAT) Tools. The present paper sheds the light on one of the most important features in computer-assisted translation (CAT) Tools that is terminology management, furthermore, by taking MemoQ application as a case study, it shows a practical guide to create and use term base within this application.

Orthopaedic Provider Coding Trends After 2021 Changes to the Current Procedural Terminology Evaluation and Management Coding Guidelines: A Retrospective Cohort Study

Background: The goal of this study was to determine changes in orthopaedic coding practices between December 2020 and January 2021 after training providers on the 2021 Current Procedural Terminology Evaluation and Management (E&M) Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services guideline changes. Methods: Outpatient encounters in December 2020, January 2021, December 2021, and January 2023 were grouped by provider and E&M code level. The codes used for established patients were 99211, 99212, 99213, 99214, and 99215, ordered from low to high-complexity visits. The codes used for new patients were 99201, 99202, 99203, 99204, and 99205 also in order of complexity from low to high. Results: A statistically significant increase was noted in coding levels for both new and established patients from December 2020 to January 2021 (P < 0.001). For new patients, there was an increase in level 4 codes from 16% to 54% and an increase in level 5 codes from 3% to 6% (P < 0.0001). This notable increase in level 4 and 5 codes was maintained through 2 years (January 2023) for new patients. Conclusions: A statistically significant increase was noted in coding levels for both new and established patients since E&M guideline changes. This change was maintained for 2 years.

TERMINOLOGYOF MANAGEMENT IN THE DISCOURSE SPACE (BASED ON ENGLISH LANGUAGE)

The article is devoted to the study of the English terminological system in the field of management with regard to aspects of the structure and semantics of its components. The typology of cognitive-linguistic and institutional features that distinguish management discourse from other discursive types is explored. A comprehensive analysis of the main ways of forming management terms is carried out, among which morphological derivation, compounding and abbreviation are highlighted. The reasons that determine the dominant role of compounding in management terminology are established. The most frequent morpho-grammatical models in the discursive space of management are identified. Attention is focused on the syntactic status of such terminological units, which allows us to assert that multicomponent terms represent one member of a sentence that does not have synonyms, which fundamentally makes them different from free phrases. Extralinguistic and intralinguistic factors that determine the specifics of the formation of the terminological layer of the lexical system of a language are also explored. Based on the analysis of practical material with its integrative connection to the structural and compositional realities of the modern discursive space of management, the authors of the article propose a comprehensive structural and thematic stratification of terminological units, which allows us to study the conceptual apparatus and trace the main algorithms of the hierarchical interaction of terms of each of the identified structural and thematic segments. Using the continuous sampling method, five structural and thematic groups are identified and stratified, which allows us to conclude that the term management system is a consciously constructed system, divided into flexible and open terminological fields. A statistical analysis is carried out to establish the frequency of use of terminological units of structural and thematic subsystems of the general management terminological system in the discursive space of business. The distinctive feature of abbreviations is investigated, which is represented by a high level of consistency and hierarchy of correlations between abbreviation terms.

Evidence-based commentary on the diagnosis, management, and further research of degenerative cervical spinal cord compression in the absence of clinical symptoms of myelopathy.

Degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) represents the final consequence of a series of degenerative changes in the cervical spine, resulting in cervical spinal canal stenosis and mechanical stress on the cervical spinal cord. This process leads to subsequent pathophysiological processes in the spinal cord tissues. The primary mechanism of injury is degenerative compression of the cervical spinal cord, detectable by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), serving as a hallmark for diagnosing DCM. However, the relative resilience of the cervical spinal cord to mechanical compression leads to clinical-radiological discordance, i.e., some individuals may exhibit MRI findings of DCC without the clinical signs and symptoms of myelopathy. This degenerative compression of the cervical spinal cord without clinical signs of myelopathy, potentially serving as a precursor to the development of DCM, remains a somewhat controversial topic. In this review article, we elaborate on and provide commentary on the terminology, epidemiology, natural course, diagnosis, predictive value, risks, and practical management of this condition-all of which are subjects of ongoing debate.

Pregnancies at the Uterotubal Junction: A Review of Terminology (Interstitial, Cornual, and Angular) and Recommendations for Management.

Ectopic pregnancies are one of the most common causes of obstetric mortality worldwide. Interstitial ectopic pregnancies, defined as an extracavitary pregnancy within the portion of the Fallopian tube that transverses the myometrium, have reported mortality rates approximately seven times higher than all types of ectopic pregnancy combined. In contrast, intracavitary eccentric gestations, often labeled as "cornual" or "angular" pregnancies, have reportedly high rates of live birth. Unfortunately, the terms "interstitial," "cornual," and "angular" have long been used with varying diagnostic criteria and often interchangeably to describe a pregnancy near the uterotubal junction. The inconsistency in nomenclature and lack of clear diagnostic criteria to distinguish among these pregnancies has resulted in a paucity of data to provide accurate prognostic information and guide appropriate management. This review article aims to provide historical context for the terms "interstitial," "cornual," and "angular;" discuss previous and more recent innovations of diagnostic methods; and provide recommendations for concise terminology and inform management.

Palliative and End-of-Life Family Caregiving in Rural Areas: A Scoping Review of Social Determinants of Health and Emotional Well-Being.

Introduction: Due to their remote location, rural-dwelling family caregivers (FCGs) experience geographic and psychosocial challenges when providing home-based palliative and end-of-life (PEOL) care for their care recipient. Limited research has evaluated the social and environmental factors that may compound FCG burden and contribute to adverse emotional health outcomes among rural-dwelling PEOL FCGs. Objective: To characterize the social determinants of health (SDOH) that affect the provision of PEOL care among rural-dwelling FCGs, along with symptoms of anxiety and depression. Methods: A scoping review was conducted using Arksey and O'Malley's Framework. Searches were conducted in PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Cochrane, and 511 articles published between 2010 and 2023 were screened. Keywords included "rural," "PEOL care," and "FCG." Inclusion criteria included FCGs, ages ≥18 years; findings reported on SDOH, anxiety, and/or depressive symptoms; within a rural context; and U.S. based. Findings: In this review, 18 studies met eligibility and were included. Apart from six studies that specifically investigated Black and Latinx FCGs, most FCGs were middle-aged White female spouses. SDOH impacting PEOL care provision included: limited access to PEOL services due to remote distance and travel needs for services; low health literacy in medical terminology and patient symptom management; limited English-language proficiency; perceived clinician racial and ethnic discrimination; financial vulnerabilities affecting health care coverage; and underdeveloped infrastructure. These barriers negatively impacted decision making, communication with clinicians, and patient symptom management. FCGs reported emotional distress related to patients' symptom management and limited opportunities for respite. There was a limited investigation of emotional well-being and minimal interventions aimed toward improving rural-dwelling FCG emotional health. The presence of community support promoted hospice use and facilitated the provision of care. Conclusions: FCGs are vulnerable to adverse emotional health when providing home-based PEOL care. Research is needed to develop supportive interventions (e.g., digital health) for rural-dwelling FCGs.

Toward a dynamic frame-based ontology of legal terminology

In the study of special languages and translation, the legal field is often insulated from other domains. This is primarily due to the extreme system dependence of the terminology of law, which results from a lack of a common legal system of reference throughout the world. The abstract nature of this human-made field and its dynamicity in view of the continuously evolving case law and constant changes in legislation make it difficult to illustrate its complex ontology through traditional terminology management techniques. Therefore, this paper argues for an interdisciplinary approach to constructing the ontology of legal concepts based on structural constituents from frame semantics and comparative law. Frames allowing for the representation of interconnected knowledge segments evoked by legal concepts and the distinction between micro- and macro-dimensions in legal comparison research make it possible to capture the complex ontology of legal terminology evoked in a specific point in time and a determined legal context. The ontological knowledge structure will be exemplified by terms from German social, commercial, employment, and tax law.

The driving force: organizational resilience of OKKO network

Learning outcomes After completion of the case study, the students would be able to identify and evaluate organizational culture as a critical element of organizational resilience and assess its fit to the business context, evaluate different elements of organizational resilience and their contribution to business adaptation and develop leadership approaches that help adapt and leverage organizational culture to foster individual, team and organizational resilience. Case overview/synopsis This teaching case covers topics of organizational leadership, including organizational culture and organizational resilience. This case study is appropriate for the postgraduate and executive education programmes. This case study covers the approach to organizational leadership and resilience of the OKKO, a Ukrainian retail petrol station network. The dilemmas considered by top managers of the company emerged in February–April 2022 amid the unfolding Russian invasion of Ukraine. The case study protagonists solved multiple business and organizational dilemmas to continue efficient business operations while allowing the organization to adapt to a complex and fast-changing environment. They leveraged a distinct corporate culture, strong employee engagement and established business processes and management practices to ensure the viability of the business. Complexity academic level This case study is appropriate for postgraduate and executive education programmes. The level of difficulty is light to medium. PROJECT MANAGEMENT IN COMPLEX TECHNICAL INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS: CHALLENGES AND STRATEGIES

The paper delineates essential facets of hybrid management in the realm of infrastructure projects and programs, elucidating pivotal concepts, methodologies, and models integral to this approach. A comprehensive examination of the extant status of infrastructure project implementation at the regional level is undertaken, encompassing an inquiry into terminology, regulatory frameworks, and financial management standards specific to this domain. Noteworthy attention is devoted to global practices in program implementation at the regional level, as well as contemporary strategies for overseeing infrastructure projects and programs. The culmination of this investigation is the formulation of a refined scientific and applied framework for hybrid management at the regional level. This conceptual framework is rooted in the integration of project management knowledge systems and is delineated by its adaptation to the methodology of project program management. Within the parameters of this articulated concept, a convergent system for the utilization of project management methods and approaches in the context of efficient project program management has been devised.

National and international collaborations to advance research into vascular contributions to cognitive decline

Cerebrovascular disease is the second most common cause of cognitive disorders, usually referred to as vascular contributions to cognitive impairment and dementia (VCID) and makes some contribution to about 70 % of all dementias. Despite its importance, research into VCID has lagged as compared to cognitive impairment due to Alzheimer's disease. There is an increasing appreciation that closing this gap requires large national and international collaborations. This paper highlights 24 notable large-scale national and international efforts to advance research into VCID (MarkVCID, DiverseVCID, DISCOVERY, COMPASS-ND, HBC, RHU SHIVA, UK DRI Vascular Theme, STROKOG, Meta VCI Map, ISGC, ENIGMA-Stroke Recovery, CHARGE, SVDs@target, BRIDGET, CADASIL Consortium, CADREA, AusCADASIL, DPUK, DPAU, STRIVE, HARNESS, FINESSE, VICCCS, VCD-CRE Delphi). These collaborations aim to investigate the effects on cognition from cerebrovascular disease or impaired cerebral blood flow, the mechanisms of action, means of prevention and avenues for treatment. Consensus groups have been developed to harmonise global approaches to VCID, standardise terminology and inform management and treatment, and data sharing is becoming the norm. VCID research is increasingly a global collaborative enterprise which bodes well for rapid advances in this field.

TERMINOLOGUE (DCU Dublin) – un outil de gestion terminologique pas comme les autres

The purpose of this contribution is to present the main challenges of a localization project currently being finalized – the localization, into French and Romanian, of the open-source terminology management tool TERMINOLOGUE. The main point is to assert and assess a specific algorithm for the research of interlingual equivalents of terminological units lato sensu (terms, collocations, idioms, standardized text).

Modern terminology of management: Anglicisms as a means of adaptation to new economic realities

The subject of this study is an important part of the latest terminology of the modern management sphere, namely, anglicisms. The purpose of the article is to determine the role of anglicisms as an effective means of adapting participants in management processes in Russia to modern economic conditions. On the example of about 100 business terms of English origin, the article gives a classification of anglicisms according to structure, methods of formation, frequency of use and areas of application in management, provides a decoding of the meanings of individual components of borrowings, which contributes to the best understanding and use of business management terminology by specialists. Anglicisms originally entered the Russian language to denote concepts and phenomena completely new to the Russian reality, their emergence, integration into the vocabulary of the Russian language and active use seem to be an inevitable process that meets the communicative needs of society. Due to their high communicative significance, anglicisms from business sphere have firmly entered the Russian lexicon and are widely used in it.

In the context of the evolutionary development of the concept of logistics in the enterprise management system, the problem is the incompleteness of the theoretical foundations of logistics activities of enterprises. The terminology of logistics management, description of synergistic relationships between logistics and other activities at an enterprise, assessment of the impact of such relationships on the competitiveness of an enterprise, and study of logistics reserves for increasing the competitiveness of an enterprise (which also include reverse logistics) need to be clarified. In this article, the authors, using a value-based approach, aim to clarify the role of logistics management in the process of forming the competitiveness of an enterprise, and, consequently, in the process of managing the latter. Again, based on the value-oriented approach, the article describes the place of reverse logistics in the structure of logistics management; the principles and advantages of using reverse logistics are summarized. The article considers the relationship between the competitiveness of enterprises, the value chain and consumer value. The structure of benefits that the value chain generates for the end consumer (benefits from ownership of goods, benefits of exchange, benefits of place and time, reputational benefits) is determined, and the role of logistics activities in creating such benefits is shown. In the context of focusing on maximizing consumer value, the necessity of integrating the work of various departments of the enterprise and partner enterprises in the implementation of logistics activities is substantiated. The essence of logistics management as a type of management that focuses on the management of logistics operations based on the formation of cross-functional and inter-organizational integration in order to optimize the functioning of the supply chain, maximize customer value for end users and increase the competitiveness of supply chain participants is disclosed. In the structure of logistics management, the author defines the place of reverse logistics, which is a type of phase logistics activity that creates competitive advantages for partner enterprises by strengthening integration in logistics chains, saving costs through the use of secondary resources in production processes, optimizing inventories, production and trade assortment in relation to current and future demand, and, as a result, maximizing consumer value for end consumers.

 Effective medical translators must possess strong writing skills in both the source and target languages to accurately convey the intended message while maintaining the tone and style of the original document. Developing and finalizing content in one language before translation streamlines the process and enhances the quality of the translation.
 Translators should seek clarification and ask questions during the translation process to deliver an error-free final version. Understanding medical terminology in both source and target languages is crucial, and staying updated with the latest terminology is essential for accurate translations. Utilizing a bilingual glossary or creating one in collaboration with the client helps ensure translation accuracy.
 While machine translations have limitations, computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools like SDL Trados, MemoQ, Wordfast, and OmegaT improve efficiency and consistency. These tools, equipped with translation memory and terminology management features, support human translators in their work.
 Medical translation plays a significant role in global medical communication, alongside regulatory writing, scientific publications, health communication, professional education, promotional writing, and grant writing. It is essential for effective communication and accurate information exchange in the scientific community.
 In conclusion, accurate medical translation is crucial for effective communication and collaboration in the global scientific community. Adhering to best practices ensures precise and high-quality translations, facilitating the sharing of scientific knowledge across languages.

Proper names are a minoritarian yet fairly controversial topic in translation and interpreting literature. Some authors believe that they have been traditionally disregarded, becoming «one of translation’s coziest fortresses» (Albin, 2003); however, a number of prominent translation and interpreting scholars have explicitly studied proper names (Hermans, 1988; Moya Jiménez, 2001; Nord, 2003), and a stream of recent publications underline the challenge they represent in fields as varied as biomedicine (Cariello et al., 2021), literature (Jouini, 2020; Sarmaşık, 2022) and the law (Tang, 2021), among others. This paper proposes the integration of terminology databases and onomastics for interpreter and translator training. We will adopt a constructionist approach (cf. Goldberg, 1995). The download functionality of the terminology management system IATE is employed to extract a reliable English-Spanish dataset of 3,997 organization names, which is first analyzed in a quantitative-qualitative manner, and then exploited to design three templates (easy, medium, and advanced) aimed at bilingual naming practice. Results show a generally rich and robust dataset, with 96% cascading domain names, 66% marked as very reliable and only 8% as deprecated or obsolete. By contrast, most names (75%) were labelled as terms, which shows no consideration for their onymic nature and small or no relevance of other specialized knowledge representations (abbreviations, phrases, short terms, and non-linguistic forms). The proposed templates extensively develop a Goldbergian-style notation system for construction, and their flexibility and replicability make them a good candidate for automatization and/or combination with documentation resources and NLP-based tools throughout the learning process.

Modern models of public administration in the system of healthcare and pharmacy

The evolution of the system of socio-economic relations determines the changes in public administration models in the direction of ensuring publicity and informatization. To achieve the key goals of healthcare, it is important to have a clear understanding of the management methodology, in particular, the conceptual and categorical apparatus. Currently, the terminology of public management and administration, governance, public administration and regulation, public management needs to be agreed. 
 Aim. To analyze modern models of public management and changes in the modern content of concepts of management theory in the healthcare and pharmacy system. 
 Materials and methods. Analysis and generalization of the legal framework and scientific publications on the theory and practice of public administration in the healthcare system and pharmacy. 
 Results. The theoretical and methodological principles of management in the healthcare system and the conceptual and categorical apparatus were studied. Modern concepts of public management and features of the implementation of the main principles of “Good Governance” in the system of healthcare and pharmacy were studied. The analysis of public management models in the healthcare system was carried out, the main characteristics and principles of implementation were determined. The priority areas of activity of state bodies in the direction of achieving the global goals of sustainable development regarding the universal coverage of the population with healthcare services were determined.
 Conclusions. At the current stage, it is important to search for the most socially effective model of public management in the healthcare system and pharmacy, which aims to timely and fully ensure the maximum coverage of the population with medical services of proper quality, requires a clear understanding of the complex of organizational principles, modern forms and means of influence.

NIDM-Terms: community-based terminology management for improved neuroimaging dataset descriptions and query.

The biomedical research community is motivated to share and reuse data from studies and projects by funding agencies and publishers. Effectively combining and reusing neuroimaging data from publicly available datasets, requires the capability to query across datasets in order to identify cohorts that match both neuroimaging and clinical/behavioral data criteria. Critical barriers to operationalizing such queries include, in part, the broad use of undefined study variables with limited or no annotations that make it difficult to understand the data available without significant interaction with the original authors. Using the Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS) to organize neuroimaging data has made querying across studies for specific image types possible at scale. However, in BIDS, beyond file naming and tightly controlled imaging directory structures, there are very few constraints on ancillary variable naming/meaning or experiment-specific metadata. In this work, we present NIDM-Terms, a set of user-friendly terminology management tools and associated software to better manage individual lab terminologies and help with annotating BIDS datasets. Using these tools to annotate BIDS data with a Neuroimaging Data Model (NIDM) semantic web representation, enables queries across datasets to identify cohorts with specific neuroimaging and clinical/behavioral measurements. This manuscript describes the overall informatics structures and demonstrates the use of tools to annotate BIDS datasets to perform integrated cross-cohort queries.

Developing our previous research in the field, the present paper approaches the evolution of IT and terminology software. It explores the concepts of virtualization and cloud-based computing and its influence in the virtualization of terminology and development of cloud-based terminology management tools. The goal of our paper is to provide actualized information about the existing cloud-based terminology tools and about similar ongoing projects for experts, professors and students.

Inferring Negative Molecular Biomarker Data at Scale.

Patients who represent the negative biomarker population, those tested for a biomarker but found to be negative, are a critical component of the growing molecular data repository. Many next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based tumor sequencing panels test hundreds of genes, but most laboratories do not provide explicit negative results on test reports nor in their structured data. However, the need for a complete picture of the testing landscape is significant. Syapse has created an internal ingestion and data transformation pipeline that uses the power of natural language processing (NLP), terminology management, and internal rulesets to semantically align data and infer negative results not explicitly stated. Patients within the learning health network with a cancer diagnosis and at least one NGS-based molecular report were included. To obtain this critical negative result data, laboratory gene panel information was extracted and transformed using NLP techniques into a semistructured format for analysis. A normalization ontology was created in tandem. With this approach, we were able to successfully leverage positive biomarker data to derive negative data and create a comprehensive data set for molecular testing paradigms. The application of this process resulted in a drastic improvement in data completeness and clarity, especially when compared with other similar data sets. The ability to accurately determine positivity and testing rates among patient populations is imperative. With only positive results, it is impossible to draw conclusions about the entire tested population or the characteristics of the subgroup who are negative for the biomarker in question. We leverage these values to perform quality checks on ingested data, and end users can easily monitor their adherence to testing recommendations.
