A DEIXIS ANALYSIS OF SONG LYRICS IN HELLO BY ADELE

The main purpose of this research is to analyze three types of deixis in Adele’s song lyrics. Then, the song lyrics can be analyzed using pragmatic approach, especially about deixis. Then, the song lyrics can be analyzed using pragmatic approach, specifically about deixis. This research applied descriptive qualitative methodThis research applied descriptive qualitative method. The researcher elects lyrics of the most popular songs of Adele’s Album 25. The data ware taken from one of three song lyrics in Adele’s album 25 entitled Hello for identifying and classifying the deixis into their types (person deixis, spatial deixis, and temporal deixis). Based on the results and discussion can be concluded that all deixis found in song lyrics, there are 53 words include of kinds of deixis. the person deixis was found on adele’s song as the most dominant type (43 deictic words or 75%). Second position, deixis spatial is the most found (9 deictic words or 17%), and in the last position is temporal deixis (4 deictic words or 8%)

Beckett's dramatic works represent a significant reference for linguistic investigations as they reflect his style and dramatic language as they directed through theatre, radio, movies, and T.V screens. Act Without Words-I has considered one of his master theatricals mimics plays in which deictic expressions play a critical textual role. Hence, a pragmatic interpretation of these expressions may contribute to to the critical literature of this play. The present paper attempts to carry out a pragma-stylistic analysis and interpretation of Beckett's first mime play, Act Without Words I (1956), based on his employment of deixis. For analysis purposes, Levinson's (1983) model of deixis uses. Levinson categorizes deixis into personal deixis, spatial deixis, temporal deixis, social deixis, and discourse deixis. The main aim of the study is to shed light on the deictic expressions that have been employed by the playwright. It is concluded that the playwright adeptly uses deixis categories in a way they play a crucial role in developing the discourse processes and structure as they underlie specific linguistic codes of the play in terms of its dramatic interpretation and plot development. Also, Levinson's (1983) model of deixis finds to be an excellent linguistic tool for the analysis and interpretation of dramatic works.

An Analysis of Deixis on Comment Speech By Indonesian Diplomat in United Nation (PBB) 75th General Assembly Meeting 2020

Deixis is a human language phenomenon in which particular expression referential depends on context use (Williams, 2019). By knowing deixis, a speaker knows alternate reference words depending on the interlocutor, places and time conversation takes place. The study investigates deixis and its context used by diplomats and representatives from Indonesia, Silvany Pasaribu of human rights cases of Vanuatu and Papua. This study's data source was the comment speech of an Indonesian diplomat, consisting of three types of deixis based on Levinson's theory. The video was collected from YouTube. Further, to analyse the data through several processes, the researchers firstly collected all deictic expressions found in transcription, classified the deictic word into each category of deixis. The result of this study shows thirty five deixis from comment speech of Indonesian diplomat. There were twenty three personal deixis consisting of a first, second, and third person, seven spatial deixis, and five temporal deixis. Person deixis generally be delivered by person grammatical type, which replaces personal pronoun encode like community, appropriate names, and the individual pronoun compound. Spatial or place deixis based on result which expresses by the speaker on their speech were location. Temporal deixis is used to the pointing of time context speech. Further research is suggested to analyze all kinds of deixis, such as social deixis and its context.

A DEIXIS ANALYSIS OF SONG LYRICS IN “I WANT TO BREAK FREE” BY QUEEN

A Deixis Analysis of Song Lyrics in Queen “I Want to Break Free”. The aim of the research are to analyze the three types of deixis analysis using Yule (1996) theory and to identify the dominant deixis found in the lyrics. Researchers chose this song as the subject of analysis because of the song's popularity and it also consisted of deictic words and reference meanings. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data this research are lyrics of “I want to break free” song by Queen. In addition, this song was classified into three types of deixis analysis based on their own criteria. The result of the research showed that there are three types of deixis found in the song. They are: Person deixis (94%), Spatial deixis: (3%), Temporal deixis: (3%). In addition, the highest percentage of all is Person deixis. DEIXIS IN THE SONG LYRIC “LEVEL OF CONCERN” BY TWENTY ONE PILOTS

The title of this research is deixis in the Song Lyrics “Level of Concern” by Twenty One Pilots. The objectives of this research are to identify the type of deixis and to find out the dominant types of deixis that are mostly used in the song lyrics entitled Level of Concern. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The researchers took the data from (Joseph, 2020) of the song lyric entitled “Level of Concern” by Twenty One Pilots, for it describes the current world situation, and the lyrics of the song contains a wide range of deixis that have attracted the researchers to examine this song. After conducting this research, the researchers concluded that three types of deixis namely personal, spatial, and temporal deixis. Personal deixis divided into three parts: the first person as speaker, the second person as hearer and the third person as others, with 77 words in that song. Temporal deixis showed a certain period of time which consist of 3 words, and the spatial deixis describes the location in a conversation which consist of 2 words. The Utterance of Money Enticement-Based SMS: A Challenge to the Indonesian Politeness and Unification Sustainability

The paper was inspired by the incoming short message service (SMS) offering financial support through cheques. The aim of this study was to identify the characteristics of SMS, and to examine the deictic expressions and the impositives and commissives of tact and generosity maxims under the perspective of the politeness principle. Data for this study were gathered from April 2019 to August 2020 through electronic observation of 24 cases sent by s to h’s personal phone number at different times and dates. Descriptive analysis was applied to understand the contents of SMS. The results of the research were corroborated with a few dimensions of information that the SMS texts promised money ranging from Rp. 100 to 175 millions. The web page addresses were fake and the senders’ names were not written. In case of person deixis, the second person singular “you” appears explicitly and implicitly. All of the web page addresses were considered psychologically spatial deixis and the temporal deixis of time and day exist. The illocutionary goal is not competitive (a), so the politeness becomes a positive character. The SMS texts are convivial (b), meaning that the illocutionary goal coincides with the social goal, for instance greeting and congratulating, but not inviting or thanking. The goal sounds great because it consists of courtesy or politeness, but the linguistic behaviour does not follow such a goal. The SMS threatens domestic politeness, and the unification for life sustainability could be disturbed. The SMS texts present bad implications for politeness in Indonesia and contribute a negative paradigm for national unification sustainability. The study suggests the importance of selection processs capability by the SMS provider in an organizational context.

DEIXIS ANALYSIS IN THE SONG LYRICS OF TAYLOR SWIFT “22”

AbstractThis research aims to analyze four types of deixis by using theory of Alan Cruse (2000), interpret the reference meaning of deixis and find out the most dominant type of deixis that found in the song lyrics of Taylor Swift “22”. it consists of such deictic words that has reference meanings. Therefore, the song lyrics can be analyzed using pragmatic approach,specifically about deixis. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data which is used is the song of Taylor Swift “22” and then it is classified into the types of deixis. The findings showed that the types of deixis like person deixis, spatial deixis, temporal deixis, and discourse deixis are used in the song lyrics of Taylor Swift “22”. Based on discussion and finding can be concluded that all deixis are found in all songs, personal deixis is the most being found (15 Deictic words or 51,7%) the word “I, Me, You and We dominate all songs. in the second position Discourse Deixis is found (8 deictic words or 27,6%) and Spatial Deixis (5 deictic words or 17,2%), in the last position is Temporal Deixis (1 Deictic words or 3,4% )Keywords: pragmatics, deixis, song lyric

ANALYZING THE DEIXIS OF SONG LYRICS IN ADELE ENTITLED ALL I ASK

The title of this research is analyzing the Deixis of Song Lyrics in Adele entitled “All I Ask”. The researchers used a descriptive qualitative method in this research. This research are aimed to find out the types of deixis (Personal, Spatial, and Temporal) and the most dominant deixis which found in the lyrics of Adele's song. Based on the results and discussion, the researchers concluded that all deixis which proposed by Yule are found in Adele’s song lyrics. Personal deixis is mostly found in 38 occurrences dominate in this song. The words are “I, me, we, our, ours, us, and my” as the first person deixis, “you, and your” as the second person deixis, and “they and it” as the third person deixis. In the second position is spatial deixis, this, and in your eyes which found in 5 occurrences. METHODS OF IMPLEMENTATION OF MANIPULATIVE TECHNIQUES AS A BASIS FOR A SPEECH PROFILE OF A POLITICIAN (ON THE EXAMPLE OF G. MELONI’S SPEECH DURING THE ITALIAN CENTER-RIGHT PROTEST)

This article analyzes manipulative strategies and methods of their implementation in the Italian-language political discourse. The study is based on the materials taken from Giorgia Meloni's speeches of recent years, in particular, her speech in St. John's Square in Rome during the wave of demonstrations of supporters of the centre-right politicians. The research material was selected and analyzed in accordance with the method of discourse, conceptual and component analysis. The aim of this paper is to look at the linguistic features of G. Meloni's political discourse in order to analyze her speech behavior in detail and to make up her speech characteristic. In the course of the study it was noted that when communicating with voters, G. Meloni is primarily focused on the value-based concepts of her political party program and appeals to the traditional national values — family, faith, and centuries-old traditions of Italian culture. She is prone to give a tough assessment of the actions of her political opponents via such manipulative techniques as the realization of the concept of own - alien, the strategy of positive self-presentation and the strategy of belittling the opponent. It is worth mentioning the politician's extensive use of a number of lexical, grammatical and syntactical means, such as vivid metaphors and similes, rhetorical questions, lexemes from one and the same semantic field, spatial and temporal deixis and some others to achieve her political goals. The study emphasizes the necessity of analyzing the speech behavior of Italian politicians in view of the lack of coverage of linguistic features of the Italian-language media space and the absence of works on the speech characteristic of Italian politicians in Russian linguistics.

Temporal references in pain narratives: The cognitive perspective

The present study investigates how pain experience affects the cognitive representation of time and viewpoint in a particular genre and narrative. In patients’ reports, temporality of pain experience does not follow the objectively measurable time. The ongoing character of pain contains not only the present issues but also retains the preceding aspects of the here-and-now moment and anticipates the future notes as time unfolds. To describe this particular experience, I employ the cognitive -linguistic model of mental spaces and blending (Fauconnier – Turner, 2002). I analyze blog posts of patients with chronic diseases on the use of temporal deixis and tense focusing on the shifts realized between the Narrative Space embedding the Event Space in which the past events occurred and the Here-and-Now Space which comprises the narrator’s viewpoint as an Origo. Moreover, I presuppose the Intermediate Space between the Event Space and the Reality Space, providing a transition between the aforementioned spaces and legitimization of the reconstruction of the events (Van Krieken et al., 2016). Temporal overlapping proves that subjective experience steers tenses and temporal deixis which govern the construal of viewpoint and time in the narratives; therefore, time and viewpoint are immediately connected in the cognitive representation of the narratives.

Deixis Analysis in the Song Lyrics “Someone Like You” by Adele

This study is to find out the used of three types deixis on the song lyrics“Someone Like You” by Adele. The writer used qualitative method. The researcher used document analysis as the instrument in this study. For analysis the data, the writer used three steps, there are data reduction, data display, and data verification. The results of this study showed that two types of deixis (Levinson, 1983) namely: personal deixis and temporal deixis appeared in the song “Someone Like You” by Adele. From the findings, the writer found twenty eight personal deixis and two temporal deixis. The results in this study concluded that deixis analysis on this song, the most data obtained is personal deixis which consists 28 words compared to temporal deixis which consists two words. DEIXIS ON TRIBUNNEWS.COM “THE STORY OF ADE JIGO WAS ROLLED UP BY THE TSUNAMI 2018”

This research aims to identify words contain the deixis from Tribunnews.com and then describes the factors of the deixis that also give more understanding to the reader about types of deixis which are used in tribunnews.com. The researchers used a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the words contained in Tribunnew.com. Data collection used by the researchers is documentation, there are: collecting the data, reading and observing, finding the data, putting sign and making a checklist on it, taking and presenting them in the data display, and finding con clusions. Moreover, the researchers found the deixis in the news that the word of I (24.51%), we (1.96%), he (8.82%), calling name (6.86%), kindship lexemes (32.35%). The word of place or location like a beach, Krakatau mountain, etc is spatial deixis is a place (9.80%) and adverb of place (8.82%). And the last the use of time such as then, now, soon, day, today, etc is the temporal deixis there are deictic Modifier (2.94%) and non-deictic (3.92%). AN ANALYSIS OF DEICTIC EXPRESSION IN THE ARTICLE SELECTED FROM DETIKNEWS ABOUT KRAKATOA’S MOUNT DISASTER 2018

This research reports the findings of an investment study deixis in an article selected from DetikNews. The aims of this research was to determine the deictic expression contained in the selected article. The methodology used by the researchers is descriptive qualitative and uses content analysis to analyze deictic expressions in the article. These findings of research indicate are three types of deictic expressions found in articles selected from DetikNews, there are personal deixsis, spatial deixis and temporal deixis. Based on the results of the research, it can be found that knowing the deictic expression in the selected article, this will help all those who read the article, will have a better understanding and the points of the article will reach the audience. A DEIXIS ANALYSIS OF ONLINE NEWSPAPER IN JAKARTA POST

Deixis can be found in the spoken and written media. The use of proffer deixis concepts in the Newspaper media is influenced by background in its topic. This study aims to identify the deixis used in online Newspaper; Jakarta Post. This study was conducted by using the descriptive qualitative method and there are three steps to analyzing this article, 1). read the article, 2). found the deixis, 3). classified the types of deixis proposed by Alan Cruse (2000) theory. The result of a deixis analysis in an online Newspaper found 928 words such as; 70% person deixis, 12% temporal deixis, 10% discourse deixis, 5% social deixis, and 3% spatial deixis. Deixis in the novel Murder on the orient express

This study which entitled “Deixis in The Novel Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie” Deixis described the relationship between language and context and the objectives of this study were (1) to find out the utterances of a major character, M. Poirot, and types of the deixis in The Novel Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie. (2) to describe the reference of each type of deixis in the Novel Murder on the Orient Express. This study applied the descriptive qualitative method. The result of this study showed that there were three types of deixis found in the utterances of a major character, M. Poirot in the novel Murder on the Orient Express, namely personal deixis (73 data), temporal deixis (18 data), and spatial deixis (9 data). The referent of the personal deixis found referred to all passenger in the Orient Express, temporal deixis refers to the time of utterance was uttered and the murder of Ratchett occurred, spatial deixis referred to the Orient Express itself.

DEIXIS IN THE SONG LYRICS OF LEWIS CAPALDI’S “BREACH” ALBUM

The aim of the research is to analyze the three types of deixis analysis using Yule’s (1996) theory and interpret the reference meaning of deixis that are found in the Lewis Capaldi’s “Breach” album song lyrics. The researchers selected this song as subject of analysis because the popularity of the song and also it consisted of such as deictic words. Therefore, the “Breach” album song lyrics can be analyzed by using pragmatic approach especially using theory of Yule (1996) about deixis analysis. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The kind of this research is content analysis. The data which used song lyrics of Lewis Capaldi’s “Breach” album (2018). In addition, this song was classified into three types of deixis analysis based on their own criteria. The result of this research showed that the three types of deixis using Yule’s theory such as person deixis, spatial deixis and temporal deixis are used in the Lewis Capaldi’s “Breach” album. The most dominant type of deixis in this research were found is person deixis with 11 data (55%), spatial deixis with 6 data (30%), and temporal deixis with 3 data (15%). The use of person deixis indicated the participant in this song. While, the spatial deixis indicated location and place of event from the participant. Moreover, the temporal deixis indicated the timing of speech event which is used in this song.

AN ANALYSIS OF DEIXIS IN PAMUNGKAS'S "ONE ONLY" SONG LYRICS

The aims of this research are to analyze the kinds of deixis that are used in One Only song lyrics and to find out the types of deixis that are major used in in the song lyrics. The researcher choose this song because this song is easy to listen to and got a good response from the listener. This research used qualitative research. The result of this research showed that in the One Only song lyrics there are four kinds of deixis, there are personal deixis, spatial deixis, temporal deixis and social deixis. Based on the discussion, personal deixis came as the most often appears deixis with 50 deictic words found or 92.6 %, the second is Spatial deixis (2 deictic words or 3.7 %), followed by temporal deixis and social deixis with the percentage of 1.85 % each. An Analysis of Deixis in Avenger Infinity War Movie

The purpose of this study is to find out the types of deixis and the most dominant deixis that appeared in the Avengers Infinity War Movie. This study applied descriptive qualitative research. For collecting data, the researcher used non-participatory technique and observational method. The data in this study applied the theory from Levinson. The utterances of the speaker is used as the data in this study. The researcher found 168 data of deixis. The data were analyzed into person, temporal, place, discourse, and social deixis. The result showed that there are 87 person deixis, 31 temporal deixis, 14 place deixis, 21 discourse deixis, and 15 social deixis. Based on 168 data, the most dominant types of deixis is person deixis because most of all the character in the movie used person deixis.

The Context Meaning of Deixis in Soundtracks Lyric of the Greatest Showman Movie

<p>Deixis is one of the important studies in pragmatics. It is a word or phrase that can refer to a person, place, or time in the speakers' utterance. Usually, each deixis has a different function. That function relies on the context of deixis both implicitly and explicitly. Then, the objective of this research is to find the types of deixis and divulge the function which is applied in the speaker utterance. The writers used the descriptive qualitative method to analyze deixis in the two soundtracks lyric of <em>The Greatest Showman</em> movie, they are <em>the greatest show</em><em> and</em> <em>This is me</em>. The results of the analysis found that there are five types of deixis in the two lyrics; person deixis, spatial deixis, temporal deixis, discourse deixis, and social deixis. The functions showed that deixis provides the information and gives a reference to the deixis word. This analysis is important to understand the speaker's intends in the song by the use of context deixis.</p>
