Team Building in a University Interlibrary Services Department: Part Two—Gathering Internal Data, Assessment and Adjusting Format

ABSTRACT Continuing team building efforts in the Interlibrary Services Department of Texas A&M's Sterling C. Evans Library produced new fruit during the second year of the process. After gathering data from the NASA Moon Survival Task, the PT/Berkeley Personality Inventory, and from an internal assessment, two self-managing work group teams were created. Preliminary results indicate a renewed sense of purpose and accomplishment for the entire unit.

Team-building efforts of the nurse executive will raise nursing's status and strengthen nursing's image as a reliable, self-managed department able to make valuable contributions to health care delivery. Nurse administrators who assume the responsibility of building and maintaining productive interdisciplinary teams at the executive level will be rewarded with increased visibility, recognition, and power. Such opportunities for leadership should not be ignored or left to the purview of hospital administrators, physicians, or any other discipline.

Productivity Improvement through Team Building and Organizational Redevelopment: Evaluating the Experiences of a Human Services Agency at the County Level

Productivity improvement and quality of worklife changes in a community mental health center are explored via three years of survey research, team building, and organizational redevelopment efforts. The foundation for change included process consultation, climate surveys, team-building, and socio-taskwork redesign. Team-building efforts are evaluated and a perspective on impacts and predicted changes for the organization's future are included.
