Synthesis of pyridine derivatives using aza Diels–Alder methodology

Amidrazone 1 reacted with the unsymmetrical tricarbonyls 2a , 2c and 2d giving triazines 3a , 3c and 3d , respectively. These triazines were converted into their corresponding pyridine derivatives 6a , 6c and 6d in aza Diels–Alder reactions with 2,5-norbornadiene 5 . Triazines 3c and 3d gave the pyridolactones 9c and 9d with 2,3-dihydrofuran.

New catalytic technologies in Japan

Recent trends in R&D of catalytic technology in Japan (cleaner and more efficient production, environmental catalysts, and recycling processes) are overviewed and examples of recent achievements are listed. Examples are then described as zeolite-catalyzed organic reactions recently commercialized and expected to be commercialized: hydration of cyclohexene, synthesis of pyridine derivatives and gas-phase Beckmann rearrangement of cyclohexanone oxime. Finally, as an example of environmental catalysts, the NO x storage–reduction type three-way automobile catalyst, is introduced.

Synthesis of pyridine derivatives by the three-component condensation of a β-dicarbonyl compound, β-enaminocarbonyl compound, and ethyl orthoformate

The major products of the three-component condensation of a β-dicarbonyl compound, β-enaminocarbonyl compound, and ethyl orthoformate are pyridine derivatives. The reaction of 1,3-cyclohexanedione or dimedone, the enamino ketones obtained from these diones, and ethyl orthoformate gives octahydroacridinediones, while the reaction of dimedone, ethyl β-aminocrotonate, and ethyl orthoformate gives a tetrahydroquinoline derivative. The structures of the minor products were established in some cases. The reduction of 3,3,6,6-tetramethyl-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-octahydro-1,8-acridinedione by LiAlH4 proceeds with retention of the pyridine ring and leads to the corresponding octahydroacridinediol.

Synthesis of Pyridines by Anodic Oxidation of 1,4-Dihydropyridines

Anodic oxidation of a series 1,4-dihydropyridines were performed in acetonitrile-tetrabutylammonium perchlorate electrolyte solution at platinum electrode using controlled potential electrolysis. On the bases of electroanalytical results the electrochemical oxidation mechanism of 1,4-dihydropyridines could be designed ECEC process. As a result of two-electron oxidation corresponding pyridines were obtained in yields ranging from 85%–92%. The advantages of electrochemical synthesis of pyridine derivatives are simple reaction condition, low cost and of high purity products.

Synthesis of pyridine derivatives by reactions of ?,?-unsaturated nitriles with 2-oxo-cycloalkano carbothioic acid anilides

The tandem Michael addition-cyclization of 2-oxo-cycloalkane carbothioic acid anilides1–3 to benzylidenemalononitrile4 yielded spiroannulated pyridines5–7. Reaction of acrylonitrile with2 and3 gave 2,2-disubstituted Michael adducts14,15, whereas with1 led to 2,2,5-tri(2-cyanoethyl)-cyclopentanone11.

Reinvestigation of the Reaction of Arylidene Malononitrile with Cyanothioacetamide: New Approach for the Synthesis of Pyridine Derivatives

Arylidene malononitrile reacted with cyanothioacetamide under basic condition to afford the pyridine derivative (2). The same product was obtained from the reaction of arylidene ethylcyanoacetate, arylidene diethyl malonate, arylidene pyrazolinone with cyanothioacetamide under the same condition. A resonable mechanism for this behaviour was suggested.

AbstractThe aza Wittig reaction of iminophosphorane 3 with isocyanates leads to conjugated carbodiimides 4, which undergo electrocyclic ring closure to give ethyl 2‐pyridinecarboxylates 5. Iminophosphorane 9 reacts with nitromethane and acetone in a 1:1 molar ratio to form 10 and 11, respectively. Reaction of 9 with nitromethane in 1:3 molar ratio yields the iminophosphorane 12. The structure of 12 has been established by X‐ray crystallography. Iminophosphoranes 10 and 11 react with isocyanates or carbon dioxide to give the pyrazolo[3,4‐b]pyridines 13, 15 and 14, 16, respectively.

The correlation between the 13C and 59Co NMR spectra of substituted cyclopentadienylcobalt complexes and their catalytic properties in the synthesis of pyridine derivatives is examined. Since the correlations can be expressed as linear relationships, a direct screening of potential catalysts by NMR is possible.
