Towards Sustainable Energy Development: Integrating Traditional and Renewable Energy in Azerbaijan’s Energy Policy

The article examines the formation of Azerbaijan's energy policy and the multivector development of its fuel and energy complex. In the context of global transformations and changes in energy flow structures, the author emphasizes the balanced development of both hydrocarbon and carbon-free segments of energy. The proposed concept of sustainable energy development envisages the harmonious coexistence of traditional and renewable energy, enhancing Azerbaijan's economic stability and geopolitical influence. The significant role of the oil and gas sector, demonstrated by successful projects and substantial foreign investments, is reinforced by the active development of renewable energy sources. Azerbaijan implements large-scale projects in wind and solar energy, as well as initiatives for the production of «green» hydrogen, which contributes not only to the reduction of emissions but also to the expansion of the country's export potential. The article highlights the importance of balanced FEC development, focusing on emission minimization through the application of carbon capture and utilization (CCUS) technologies, as well as the need for infrastructure modernization to improve energy efficiency. Azerbaijan demonstrates a unique case where traditional and renewable energy do not compete but complement each other, strengthening its positions in international cooperation and within the framework of the Greater Eurasian Partnership.

КОНЦЕПТУАЛЬНЫЕ ОСНОВЫ УСТОЙЧИВОГО ЭКОНОМИЧЕСКОГО РАЗВИТИЯ ТЕРРИТОРИЙ НА ОСНОВЕ ИННОВАЦИОННЫХ ПРОТОКОЛОВ КОНЦЕНТРАЦИИ ПРОИЗВОДСТВА

In this article, the subject of study is a list of unified procedures, the consistent implementation of which will ensure the achievement of the goal of sustainable economic development of both industries and territories based on innovative production concentration protocols. The purpose of the study is to determine the conceptual foundations of sustainable economic development of territories and optimal innovative options for economic development. The development of concretizing tools and the identification of the technological essence and phasing based on innovative production concentration protocols is an urgent task. The multicomponence of the provisions of the concepts of sustainable economic development of territories based on innovative production concentration protocols lies in the sectoral approach to innovative scaling of the economy, the need to develop an assessment of regional potential in the concept of innovative scaling of the economy to ensure its sustainable development, the development of adequate directions for stimulating innovative development acceptable to any subject of the Federation, the introduction of the resulting block into its structure, including the definition of the expected effects from the implementation of the concept, with the separation of these effects by initiators of innovative scaling. Also in this article, in order to identify the foundations of sustainable economic development and identify the optimal options for their congruence, the structure and content of the concept of sustainable economic development of territories based on innovative production concentration protocols are developed; the logic of developing the concept of sustainable economic development of territories is revealed.

MENJAGA SUMBER DAYA TANAH DENGAN KONSEP HOLISTIC AGRICULTURE SUSTAINABLE, INTEGRATED DAN SUSTAINABLE FARMING, GREEN AGRICULTURE TECHNOLOGY

Sustainable agricultural development is a process aimed at always adding agricultural products to each consumer, while at the same time increasing acceleration, business productivity through the addition of skills and capital. The current implementation of development emphasizes the goal of economic progress. In essence, the concept of sustainable agricultural development has an integrated concept through a holistic approach. In the context of sustainable agricultural development, it basically means the ability to remain productive while maintaining resources. Agricultural development without any continuous effort, farmers will remain marginalized, trapped in debt, middlemen, and have no power to determine the economic value of the harvest. The impact of this is that the number of farmers will decrease, in the end Indonesian Food sovereignty will be difficult to achieve. Sustainable agricultural development through a holistic approach that is multidimensional from upstream to downstream. This article aims to provide new ideas in sustainable agricultural development through a holistic approach with the concept of holistic agriculture sustainable, integrated and sustainable farming, green agriculture technology from upstream to downstream as an effort to develop sustainable agricultural concepts and improve the welfare of farmers.

Scientific principles, factors and peculiarities of intensification in agricultural production

The theoretical and methodological foundations of intensification and the practice of efficient agricultural production in the context of continuity of provisions of the concept of sustainable development of the industry are studied. The features and significance of intensification are revealed, attention is paid to the issues of organic production, implementation of the principles of green economy policy and the processes of ecologization, land reclamation, investment, construction and reconstruction of agricultural facilities.

Inequalities in the production and use of cement and concrete, and their consequences for decarbonisation and sustainable development

Concrete is vital for constructing infrastructure and housing, and cement is the key binding material within concrete. Concrete is an enabler of development, as concrete structures are key to delivering societal services in many sectors. Much recent research on cement and concrete has focussed on technical solutions to decarbonisation; however, there is a knowledge gap around how cement and concrete intersect with other facets of sustainable development. This study explores the intersection of cement and concrete with inequalities, both through their production as commodities and through their use in built assets. An exploratory analysis of this issue was carried out, comprising an evaluation of industry associations’ conceptions of sustainable development and inequalities, an analysis of underlying power dynamics for several inequality issues using Lukes’ three dimensional framework of power, and a reflection on how certain inequalities may pose risks to achieving decarbonisation and sustainable development aims. Our study shows that industry associations’ narratives around sustainable development generally lack a detailed vision for addressing inequalities, in comparison to their focus on decarbonisation. We find that inequalities are a systemic issue for cement and concrete, spanning intra- and inter-national scales, and all three dimensions of power. These findings highlight that several inequalities are consequential from structural, underlying inequalities, whilst other inequalities are specific to the sectors themselves. The cement and concrete sectors are recommended to develop their conception of inequalities in relation to sustainable development: this can help reduce inequalities within their own workforces more effectively, and also reduce the risks of missing their decarbonisation targets. For large, complex socio-technical systems, such as cement and concrete, it is vital for consideration of inequalities to inform strategic planning with regards to decarbonisation and sustainable development.

Analysis of Experience and Problems of Using the Concept of Sustainable Development in Company Work

The use of the sustainable development concept in current circumstances is one of priority lines of today’s company progress. Within the frames of the present research the author analyzed probable challenges of this concept use. Apart from that, the article pointed out that sustainable development of company management in crisis requires executives’ flexibility, professionalism, ability to make difficult decisions and orientation to the result. At the same time, providing company sustainability in crisis is liable to the impact from external and internal factors and depends on functional trends of its work. Strategic vision of situation development both on market and inside the company can give an opportunity to see prospects of the company sustainable development, identify key goals and priorities and realize consequences of current decision-making for shaping sustainability of the company.

Resilience, Regeneration and Sustainability in Brazil in The 21st Century

Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate resilience, regeneration and sustainability in Brazil, with the aim of discussing the process of occupation of urban areas; possible adverse effects on the environment and society; the impact of consumption and the construction of more sustainable cities and the commitment to future generations. Theoretical Framework: The concepts of resilience, sustainable development and urban regeneration stand out as the basis of the research, providing an interesting foundation for understanding the context of the investigation. Method: Exploratory, descriptive study with a qualitative approach anchored in a narrative review that allowed us to converge on an interpretative understanding of urban resilience in Brazil towards sustainable development. Results and Discussion: It is not possible to slow down economic advances, however, as the 2030 Agenda prioritizes, bridges must be built for conscious consumption and production. Gentrification and favelaization are examples that can point to the consequence of the rural exodus and the development of cities that increasingly consume non-renewable natural resources. Two cases can be examples to mitigate actions that affect ecosystems: “Contingency Plan on the Hills of Rio de Janeiro” and the “ProMorar Project in Recife”. Research Implications: Reflections involving the adverse effects arising from unplanned anthropogenic interventions and their impact on ecosystem imbalance point to changes aimed at actions to alleviate this process. Originality/Value: The importance of conscious consumption is defended, linked to the process of minimizing the adverse effects of the urbanization process, as ways to protect future generations.

Economic and Environmental Limitations of Sustainable Energy Transition in Europe

In recent decades, the concept of sustainable development has become increasingly widespread since the United Nations Convention on Climate Change was adopted. However, it is also being overused, imitated, politicized, or even ignored. This study analyzes the current conditions and long-term consequences of the European energy transition and discusses the limitations and true economic and environmental implications of implementing energy sustainability. The paper is aimed at forming an understanding of the current environmental conditions and challenges associated with the economic, financial, and environmental consequences of introducing renewables in Europe. Research has revealed that renewables, while cleaner energy sources are not necessarily sustainable as initially suspected. There are various implications and limitations, that is: an initial carbon footprint, land footprint, recycling issues, harmful impacts on wildlife and humans, moreover the efficiency and economic implications when transitioning to a net zero. As a result, it is concluded that the basic principles of the energy transition are to be introduced and considered for it to become indeed sustainable. It is also concluded that when introducing or improving an energy model, it is crucial to consider the country's initial energy and resource base. Nuclear energy should not be disregarded and should considered to be a clean energy source, as well as a safe one, particularly in the context of national security, which is heavily dependent on energy transition.

SMART AND SUSTAINABLE URBAN MOBILITY – PUBLIC AND SHARED TRANSPORT USERS’ BEHAVIOR IN GDYNIA CITY: A CASE STUDY

Novel technologies have resulted in the unprecedented and dynamic development of transport systems—one of the most important sectors of the economy. The implementation of smarter commuting solutions, in order to improve the processes of transportation, allows for cost and energy saving, better organization of time, and, as a result, an increase in quality of life. Also, this supports the operationalization of the sustainable development concept, enabling a compact and efficient urban transport system to be developed. The purpose of this paper is to analyze smart urban mobility development prerequisites and challenges, taking Gdynia city public and shared transport users’ preferences and transport behavior as a case study. A research hypothesis has been formulated stating that most commuters have sufficient digital competencies and benefit from the available modern technological solutions contributing to smarter and more sustainable urban development. The obtained results prove the importance of the role the digital world plays these days and show how the impact of technology on the transportation sector has helped to develop new opportunities for urban mobility.

Challenges and Problems of Nature Conservation: A Case Study from Poland

The article aims to show the attitudes and views of Polish residents on the problem of preserving the natural environment from the perspective of their place of residence. The need for research in this area stems from the insufficient number of available studies on this very important issue given the global environmental challenges we are facing. The research gap noted relates particularly to the aspects of engagement in environmental measures, knowledge levels, and motivations for conservation efforts by local citizens. Environmentally and socially responsible behavior is part of the concept of sustainable development. Empirical research covered a sample of 500 adult residents of Poland using the CAWI technique. The results showed that the vast majority of respondents noticed numerous problems in preserving the natural environment in their place of residence. According to respondents, the way to reduce these problems is to increase care for green areas, promote renewable energy sources, and strive to reduce waste. Moreover, the research results show that respondents take initiatives to segregate waste, save energy, and apply the zero-waste concept. The main reason for taking action to solve environmental problems is to preserve the environment for our children and future generations. The results of these studies showed that for men, pro-environmental activities are more important than for women. These findings are valuable for policymakers, local authorities, and fellow citizens.

Environmentally balanced agroecosystems – key to sustainable development

Considering the large-scale aggravation of the global environmental problem, despite the nearly thirty-year implementation of the Concept of Sustainable Development, developed in Rio de Janeiro (1992),it needs additional researchand justification today. The very fact of a large-scale aggravation of the global environmental problem makes one doubt the methodological correctness of the concept. Since the consumption of natural resources, and, therefore,the ecological state of the environment dependsto a large extent on the understanding of the ecological essence of energy relations in ecosystems, it is worth focusing on the scientific provisions of the domestic school of physical economy, elaborated inthe works of Serhiy Podolinskyi, VolodymyrVernadskyi,Mykola Rudenko, Viktor Pysmak . It is in accordance with these provisions that the system of criteria-indicators of sustainable development requires revision. A new vision of the theoretical foundations for the development of such indicators is proposed.The authors saturate the modern, post-industrial understanding of the meaning of sustainable development with noospheric content. Based on the concept of noospheric ecosystems developed in previous author's works, an attempt is also made to providea qualitatively new justification of the goals and directions of the planetary development ofthe entire human population. Conclusions.The authors see the future trend of implementing the concept of sustainable development only in theapproximationof nature management mechanisms to natural analogues. Fabrication of biopolyethylene-based biocomposites with coffee ground waste: Effect of polyethylene-graft-maleic anhydride

The production of plastic products from non-renewable raw materials, such as petroleum, damages the environment. Consequently, biocomposites have aroused interest from industry and researchers due to their ecologically correct characteristics, mainly because they come from renewable sources. Therefore, this study aimed to produce biopolyethylene/coffee ground waste (BioPE/CGW) biocomposites and analyze the impact of CGW and polyethylene-graft-maleic anhydride (PE-g-MA) on BioPE. The biocomposites were prepared in a co-rotational twin-screw extruder equipped with a side feeder to feed the CGW. The materials were subsequently injection molded to produce the impact, tensile, and HDT samples. The temperature profiles used during extrusion and injection were between 170 and 180°C. The BioPE and biocomposites were investigated for the vibrational (Infrared Spectroscopy - FTIR), thermal (differential scanning calorimetry), mechanical (tensile, impact, and hardness), thermomechanical (heat deflection temperature (HDT) and Vicat softening temperature (VST)), and morphological (scanning electron microscopy (SEM)) properties. The compatibilizer improved the interface between phases, promoting mechanical and thermomechanical improvements in the biocomposites. PE-g-MA promoted increments in tensile strength and elastic modulus of up to 38% and 25% in the BioPE/CGW30 and an increase of 44% in the elastic modulus compared to BioPE. The thermomechanical investigations showed that HDT increased by 8.8 and 3.3°C and VST increased by 2.5 and 6.6°C compared to BioPE and the BioPE/CGW30, respectively. Biocomposites from renewable and biodegradable sources align with a sustainable development concept.

Prospects for Sustainable Corporate Governance in Russia Based on Integrated Communications

The article presents the author’s understanding of the terms “corporate governance”, “corporate management” and “communication management” in the context of the concept of sustainable development, the ESG agenda and sustainable corporate governance, as well as their relationship. The role of the stakeholder approach in bringing together the content of the concepts of “corporate governance” and “integrated communications” is shown. Some features of communications management in Russia, including in the context of ESG, are examined in detail. The relevance of the study is due to the fact that many Russian companies and organizations are extremely slow to implement the principles and methods of integrated communications and sustainable corporate governance, although they determine the effectiveness of theiractivities. The subject of the study is the system of sustainable corporate governance as part of the implementation of ESG principles in Russia. The purpose of the article is to show Russian stakeholders the role of integrated communications in the development of sustainable corporate governance and ESG policies using research methods such as analysis of scientific papers on the research topic, comparison, generalization, systemic and logical analysis. The scientific novelty of the publication is justified by the author’s interpretation of the variants of understanding the terms, for example, the authors of the article consider the organizational and/or functional division of communications into internal and external to be unproductive. In addition, in order to modernize the methodology for rating and auditing companies and organizations for compliance of their activities with ESG principles, the authors propose to increase the number of management criteria of block “G”, using metrics for assessing the effectiveness of integrated communications management, taken from the “corporate management” and “communications” systems management». The practical significance of the work lies in the possibility of its use in the development of integrated communications systems within the framework of sustainable corporate governance, as well as in the course of modernizing the methodology for rating and auditing ESG policies in Russian companies and organizations. A further direction of research may be related to the development of criteria and indicators of the quality of integrated communications systems and sustainable corporate governance, as well as consideration of the characteristics of Russian communications practices in the business environment.

Responsible Artificial Intelligence for Climate Action: A Theoretical Framework for Sustainable Development

Climate change poses an urgent and significant challenge, with far-reaching impacts already affecting our planet, and projections indicating worsening conditions in the future. The concept of sustainable development aims to meet present needs while safeguarding the ability of future generations to meet their own requirements. However, climate change's effects on sustainable development are of paramount concern, as they amplify issues like poverty, food insecurity, and environmental degradation, affecting economic growth, social progress, and environmental protection. Taking immediate action to mitigate climate change and implement sustainable practices is crucial to ensuring a habitable planet for future generations. In this context, Responsible Artificial Intelligence (RAI) emerges as a promising direction, striving for ethical and responsible technology use in diverse sustainable development tasks. RAI proves to be a robust candidate for empowering climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts. This study introduces a theoretical RAI framework designed to support climate action by responsibly enabling more accurate predictions and analysis of climate data, enhancing energy efficiency, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The framework emphasizes the need for interdisciplinary collaboration among policymakers, scientists, and technicians to develop RAI solutions that advance sustainable development and alleviate the adverse impacts of climate change. Unlike previous works, this research presents a novel perspective on the principles of RAI that explicitly consider climate-related aspects. By laying the foundations of AI research to bolster our fight against climate change, this article establishes essential pillars that encourage further advancements in this critical endeavor.

Willow catkins-assisted synthesis of ZnFe2O4/ZnO hetero-tubes for chemiresistive dibutylamine sensors operated at 130 °C

The chemiresistive sensors have enabled the sensing of diverse organoamines, but the low-temperature detection of highly carcinogenic and combustible dibutylamine (DBA) has not been achieved to date. Herein, based on the concept of waste reuse and sustainable development, the discarded willow catkins were served as biotemplates and soaked into zinc or iron nitrates and their mixed solution. The above precursors were calcined at 500 °C in the air to controllably synthesize two homo-tubes and two ZnFe2O4/ZnO hetero-tubes, all of which are assembled by uniform nanoparticles. Among, the 1.25 at% ZnFe2O4/ZnO hetero-tubes possess uniform mesoporous distribution, high content of adsorbed oxygen species, and catalytic sites of high-valent Fe4+ Lewis acid, thus realizing the first metal oxide-based sensor with excellent trace DBA sensing at low temperature. The 1.25 at% ZnFe2O4/ZnO sensor exhibits high response of 79–100 ppm DBA at low 133 °C, which is 1.4, 1.8 and 2.3 times higher than those of 3.2 at% ZnFe2O4/ZnO, ZnO and ZnFe2O4 tubes, respectively. Furthermore, it also behaves rapid response kinetics (11 s∼10 ppm), good humidity resistance, reliable long-term stability (60 days), and the ability to actually detect prometryn herbicide. In addition, its response mechanism for the enhanced DBA sensing was investigated.

Integrated remediation and detoxification of triclocarban-contaminated water using waste-derived biochar-immobilized cells by long-term column experiments

Triclocarban (TCC), an antibacterial agent commonly used in personal care products, is one of the top ten contaminants of emerging concern in various environmental media, including soil and contaminated water in vadose zone. This study aimed to investigate TCC-contaminated water remediation using biochar-immobilized bacterial cells. Pseudomonas fluorescens strain MC46 (MC46), an efficient TCC-degrading isolate, was chosen, whereas agro-industrial carbonized waste as biochar was directly used as a sustainable cell immobilization carrier. According to the long-term TCC removal performance results (160 d), the biochar-immobilized cells consistently exhibited high TCC removal efficiencies (84–97%), whereas the free MC46 removed TCC for 76–94%. At 100 days, the detachment of the MC46 cells from the immobilized cell column was observed. The micro-Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy results indicated that extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) was produced, but polysaccharide and protein fractions were washed out of the column. The lipid fraction of EPS adhered to the biochar, promoting TCC sorption for long-term treatment. The shortening of MC46 cells improved the tolerance of TCC toxicity. The TCC-contaminated water was successfully detoxified by the biochar-immobilized MC46 cells. Overall, the waste-derived biochar-immobilized cell system proposed in this study for the removal of emerging contaminants, including TCC, is efficient, economical, and aligned with the sustainable development concept of value-added utilization of waste.

Properties of polyamide epichlorohydrin resin‐modified wood fibers/soybean straw powder copolymerization enhanced soy protein biomass composites

AbstractThe biomass composites were prepared by hot molding with a pressure of 10 MPa, a temperature of 125 °C, a time of 15 minutes using soybean straw powder, poplar wood fibers, and soy protein as raw materials. The effects of different straw species, the ratio of soybean straw powder to poplar wood fibers, the particle size of soybean straw powder, and the theoretical density on the performance of biomass composites were investigated. The experimental results show that under the condition that the ratio of soybean straw powder and poplar wood fibers is 1 : 1, 20 mesh to 40 mesh soybean straw powder and 20 mesh to 60 mesh wood fibers are selected to copolymerize and strengthen the soy protein biomass composites when the theoretical density is 0.80 g/cm3, the actual density of the biomass composites is 0.90 g/cm3, the tensile strength was up to 22.04 MPa, and the bending strength was up to 44.92 MPa. Biomass composites have good water resistance while obtaining excellent mechanical properties. The above figures not only meet the relevant technical requirements of automotive interior parts but also enable the lightweight design of automobiles and the sustainable development concept of green, low carbon, and environmental protection.

Validation of an organizational sustainable development questionnaire: Exploring dimensions and implications

This study evaluates the concept and discriminant validity of an organizational sustainable development (OSD) questionnaire and discusses its practical implications. The OSD questionnaire measurement model is carefully validated using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Data analysis with well-established statistical methods reveals seven OSD dimensions: Continuous Improvement and Learning, Environmental Stewardship, Social Responsibility, Governance and Ethics, Economic Viability, Integration and Alignment, and Stakeholder Engagement. Fortunately, the questionnaire has strong construct and discriminant validity, making it a reliable OSD assessment tool. Despite encouraging results, this study is limited to a certain group and culture. Future study must validate broad populations and investigate the complex interactions between OSD characteristics and outcomes. This research provides a thorough conceptual framework and a rigorously tested assessment method to improve our understanding of OSD and enable more detailed studies of sustainable organizational practices.

EXPLORING THE EVOLUTION OF SUSTAINABILITY SCIENCE UNDERSTANDING THE COMPLEXITY AND DEVELOPMENT OF SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAMS

Objective: The objective of this study are to investigate what and how existing sustainability programs are, to group and map these sustainability programs' main ideas to gain a more constructive and integrated understanding, and to find clues or opportunities to improve efforts to achieve sustainability. Theoretical Framework: The concept of sustainable development remains complex, ambiguous, and challenging to implement. The global environmental situation is worsening, leading to disasters and unfavorable climate change. Despite numerous efforts such as seminars, research, conferences, and work programs, both locally and globally, the understanding and implementation of sustainability remain unclear. There are differing views on the focus and strategy needed to address the development paradox, indicating a lack of consensus on the true meaning of sustainability. Method: This qualitative descriptive research employs a two-tiered literature review approach. The first focuses on the historical correlation between development and sustainability, examining early human civilization's development activities during the Neolithic era. The second tier analyzes and categorizes existing sustainability programs, reviewing various research articles on environmental preservation, natural resource protection, impact reduction, and social equity programs since the first industrial revolution. The findings are synthesized critically and comprehensively to identify common themes and core ideas. Results and Discussion: This study acknowledges the complexity and challenges of sustainability, emphasizing the ongoing relevance of conservation and resilience as core concepts. To address the dichotomy of development, new sustainability programs must also consider the revitalization of natural resources, continuity of ecosystem services, biodiversity maintenance, and resilience building. Approaches such as ecosophy and predictive methods based on dynamic phenomena can contribute (as a clue) to achieving sustainability goals by encouraging holistic thinking, balancing human and environmental needs, and promoting co-evolution. Research Implications: The complexity and constellation of diverse and intricate sustainability programs can be seen through this research. Although limited, these findings are expected to contribute to Sustainability science through a more comprehensive and constructive understanding of sustainability history and knowledge that has been described. Originality/Value: This study conducts a comprehensive research method covering various disciplines and a broad scope of sustainable development, including its evolution since the industrial revolution and aspects related to history of development. The research result creates a visual map representing the structure of existing sustainability programs, serving as a guide for proposing new research initiatives. This knowledge facilitates aligning new proposals with existing themes, bridging gaps in theories, and fostering the exploration and development of innovative sustainability ideas.
