Stuttering is a speech fluency disorder. Although recent studies have shown that most of its etiology is genetic, some parents considered their own caregiving or siblings as the cause of stuttering. This study aimed to address the clinical question associated with whether having siblings increases the risk of stuttering.

<b>Purpose: </b>Extensive research on public attitudes has documented stigma toward stuttering, obesity, and mental illness; however, most studies have focused on only one of these conditions. This study sought to compare public attitudes toward stuttering, obesity, and mental illness as well as to identify the predictive potential of four ratings relating to these and other neutral or desirable conditions.<b>Method: </b>Five hundred respondents who were selected from each of three international databases filled out the Public Opinion Survey of Human Attributes (POSHA) for stuttering, obesity, or mental illness. The POSHA surveys were as similar as possible, and all contained four general items asking respondents’ “impression” of the attribute, extent to which he or she “wants to be/have” that attribute, “amount known” about the attribute, and “persons known” who manifest the attribute, for stuttering, obesity, and mental illness plus two others, namely, left-handedness and intelligence. The POSHA surveys also had the same summary scores, Beliefs, Self-Reactions, and an Overall Score.<b>Results: </b>Summary scores for the three POSHA surveys in the 500-respondent samples revealed negative attitudes toward all three conditions, the most positive being toward obesity, followed by stuttering and then by mental illness. Stepwise regression analysis indicated that various general items had significant prediction potential not only of attitudes for the same condition but also of attitudes for other conditions. The greatest other condition predictions were between stuttering and mental illness.<b>Conclusions: </b>Stuttering is regarded as less stigmatizing than mental illness but more stigmatizing than obesity. Additionally, positivity toward one condition results in limited positivity toward the others. Impressions and knowledge of—as well as experience with—stigmatized conditions can inform public awareness campaigns and individual clinical programs dealing with stigma.<br><b>Supplemental Material S1. </b>Description and results of two verification comparisons of the rank order of overall attitudes on the POSHA–S, POSHA–Ob, and POSHA–MI. <b><br></b><b>Supplemental Material S2.</b> POSHA–S, POSHA–Ob, and POSHA–MI demographic and attitudinal ratings for three triads of samples: 500 randomly selected respondents from the stuttering, obesity, and mental illness databases; 163 respondents who filled out early versions of all three POSHAs, and 50 U.S. respondents who filled out an earlier prototype of the POSHA–S as well as 50 U.S. respondents who filled out revised versions of the POSHA–Ob, and POSHA–MI.<br><b>Supplemental Material S3. </b>Subscore and overall scores for three triads of samples taking the POSHA–S, POSHA–Ob, and POSHA–MI: 500 randomly selected respondents, 163 same respondents, and 50 U.S. respondents.<br><b>Supplemental Material S4. </b>Stepwise regression models for Beliefs, Self Reactions, and Overall Scores for the POSHA–S, POSHA–Ob, and POSHA-MI. Each analysis shows statistically significant additions of variables to the model from most to least predictive potential, and these are listed below the table.<br>St. Louis, K. O. (2020). When you hear the word “stuttering” what do you think of? Many people think that stuttering is when someone repeats a sound. However, there are different types of stuttering, and each person who stutters has a different and unique way of speaking. Stuttering is like an iceberg because there is a small part of it that we can see (or hear), but a big part of stuttering is invisible. People who stutter have thoughts and feelings about stuttering that we cannot see. Because most people who stutter only stutter sometimes, they must decide if and how to let other people know about their stuttering. We will discuss how stuttering can impact kids and adults and what you can do to support people who stutter.

Introduction: an interdisciplinarity has proved to be a necessary path to be followed by every health and/or education professional. Therefore, speech therapist needs to be integrated to several areas, such as: Psychology, Occupational therapy, Psychopedagogy, Linguistics, Neuropsychology. The Institution of “Ligas Academicas”, recently, in Brazilian universities has become rather a way to reach and build together with the students and society a very important look interprofessional and multidisciplinary for the professional formation of these students. Objectives: present extensionist actions and activities in the field of language and cognition developed by an academic league during its first year. Methodology: Descriptive study, type of experience report, developed in an interdisciplinary perspective. The “Liga Academica de Linguagem e Cognicao” (LALIC) developed action and extension activities with the external community and academics of a private and a public university. The public was comprised of elementary school students from public schools, professors, students of Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Psychology and Pedagogy. Campaign actions, conventional forums, mini-courses / workshops, meetings with members of the league and scientific events were carried out. Results: The campaign conducted on the International Stuttering Day that happened in schools and the university as lectures and activities of health education with the topic: “Gagueira nao tem graca, tem tratamento!» (Stuttering do not have fun, has treatment!) Two Conversation Forums were organized, one related to Dyslexia Week and the other about the importance of phonology for linguistic development. The league also organized workshops on Therapeutic Resources and Sensory Integration, as well as mini courses on ABNT References and Production of Experience Reports. For its members, LALIC held several meetings in order to address topics such as: Cognitive decline, Language and language conceptions, Language acquisition in Prematurity and Language Disorders. Subsequently, the Symposium on Early Stimulation in Down Syndrome brought together teachers and academics from various health and education segments. The last event held by the league, I Meeting of Education, Language and Learning, searched for discussing multiprofessional issues pertinent to the topic within the field of education and health. Conclusion: LALIC was able to bring together academics and various health and education professionals demonstrating the important role of these scientific events in the dissemination of ideas, discussion and knowledge building. Some subjects such as Stuttering and Dyslexia presented greater ignorance, being possible to notice the dissemination of incorrect and widespread concepts used by the public to define or conceptualize such difficulties. The workshops and mini-courses carried out, they pretend to stimulate the members in scientific production and in the preparation of clinical and therapeutic resources. Thus, it ended the first year of extension action and activities, playing its role in building knowledge among professionals and academics in the field of language and cognition.

English title: Notker's the stammerers' Notatio de illustribus viris The Abbey of St. Gallen was the seat of one of the most important schools of the Carolingian universe. Of this school and of the literary and artistic activities connected to it, there remains an extraordinary quantity of sources, which allow us, at least in principle, to reconstruct the complexity of the internal dynamics, the contrasts between the different teachers, the different curricula, the variety of study texts adopted, the different learning methodologies practiced. They are also sources of very difficult interpretation, full of allusions and messages built on complex word games, which refer to characters, facts and circumstances that we often do not know or that we cannot identify exactly. This paper examines one of these sources, the Notatio de illustribus viris by Notker Balbulus, of which we provide a partial interpretation, aimed at capturing some aspects of the complexity that the study of the Bible had achieved at the school of St. Gallen.

Today's rising clinicians are evolving.[1] They are collaborative; they share ideas and work together well. They value community and have a positive outlook on life.[2] Some of us are observing a shift in the mindset of speech–language pathologists (SLPs), evident in the topics that interest them, the questions they ask, and the kinds of professional development activities they value. They understand something about the factors that influence persistence of stuttering, and want to know more. They observe that the problem of stuttering is more complex than what meets the eye. They are discovering that not all disfluency is stuttering, and not all stuttering is disfluent. They seek to comprehend an individual's unique experience of stuttering, and are aware that some of this they will never fully understand. Finally, they embrace a broad definition of neurodiversity, and consider identity and self-acceptance in the context of treatment. This is refreshing, and perhaps, long overdue.
