Quiz as an effective technology for forming the professional personality of medical students in the aspect of the basic values of Zhana Kazakstan

The article is devoted to the current problem of the formation of the professional personality of medical students from the point of view of basic values, such as citizenship and responsibility, corresponding to the new demands of society, lying in the plane of the modern Concept of Zhana Kazakhstan. The purpose of the article is to formulate the principle of the effectiveness of using a quiz in classroom and extracurricular work with students of medical specialties. The authors offer a specific scenario for the quiz «Medical Karaganda», and at the same time describe in detail the tasks and the course of the game. The tasks are based on materials on the history of medicine in Karaganda, including unique archival sources, materials collected in museums and other sources. The quiz also involves conducting it in the second language that the students are studying (in this case, Russian for students in groups with Kazakh as the language of tuition). The article analyzes both the effectiveness of individual tasks and the quiz as a whole. The analysis was carried out based on the results of testing a quiz in the classroom (NС JSC «Karaganda Medical University», 1st year students) and as part of the «City Day» event at the private institution «Bolashaq Academy» with students of the specialty «Pharmacy». Analysis of the results obtained during feedback and questioning proved the effectiveness of the quiz in the formation of basic values (patriotism, responsibility, critical thinking) and allowed us to formulate the principle of effectiveness based on a careful selection of tasks and interdisciplinary connections.

Interrelation of activity in social networks, behavioral culture of health, and self-assessment of physical status among students of medical universities

BACKGROUND: The available literature provides no comprehensive comparative analysis of the correlation of network activity of young students of medical universities with behavioral practices concerning health and disease prevention.
 AIM: The study aimed to examine the correlation of network activity, behavioral stereotypes in health, and self-assessment of physical status among students of medical specialties.
 MATERIALS AND METHODS: The Medical Outcomes Study SF-36 questionnaire domain was used to examine students self-assessment of physical health.
 RESULTS: The average level of self-assessment of the quality of life associated with physical health was 63.3 points. More than 40% of the students note the strong influence of information received in online communities on behavior. A stable and average-strength negative correlation was established between the network activity and the index of health-saving behavior.
 CONCLUSIONS: Students of medical specialties are characterized by a high level of dependence on information received from online communities. Their time spent on the internet is disproportionately long.

EFFECTIVENESS OF USING CRITICAL THINKING TECHNOLOGY IN TEACHING ENGLISH LANGUAGE TO STUDENTS OF THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE

This article shows how to effectively use the technology of critical thinking in teaching English to medical students. The article analyzes the definitions of the technology of critical thinking by foreign and domestic scientists. In addition, the results of five-stage exercises for the development of critical thinking of students of medical specialties based on Bloom's taxonomy were analyzed.

THE GOOGLE SERVICES USING DURING THE STUDY OF “UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE (FOR PROFESSIONAL PURPOSES)” FOR STUDENTS OF MEDICAL SPECIALTIES

The modern educational space is constantly changing, looking for new and interesting forms of learning and providing the process of acquiring knowledge. Higher education is being reformed, in particular, innovative methods and means of providing educational services are emerging, the structure of classes and forms of organization of various types of work are changing. It is noted that technical and informational means of training play a key role in the system of training future specialists. In addition, the Internet is an important auxiliary structural element in the work of the teacher. The article presents educational, informative and methodical materials necessary for studying the discipline “Ukrainian language (for professional purposes)”. The complex of tasks is aimed at the development of students’ communicative skills and abilities: to research of lexical and grammatical categories of modern Ukrainian literature languages for optimal language behavior in the professional sphere; to master terminological vocabulary, skills of work with highly specialized dictionaries; to analyze the feasibility of using lexical, morphological, syntactic language means in accordance with communicative intentions; to master the oral and written norms of speech etiquette in professional activities doctor; to learn to differentiate the functional styles of modern Ukrainian literature languages ​in general and get acquainted with the distinctive features of the scientific medical text. The proposed system of tasks will help to master the skills and abilities to communicate orally and in writing in accordance with the goals and social norms of speech behavior in professional spheres and situations. It was analyzed how to improve the education quality of medical students studying of the “Ukrainian language (for professional purposes)”, using Google services. It was suggested that Gmail, Google forms, Google Docs, Google Slides, Blogger can be effectively used in education for communication between academic staff and their students, as well as improve the quality and availability of their training resources. The materials described in the article are intended for Ukrainian students of medical specialties.

Формирование здоровьесберегающего поведения у студентов медицинского университета: к разработке концепции исследования

The article discusses theoretical and applied aspects of introduction of the innovative health-saving technologies in preparation of the highest echelon of medical industry in the Far-East region. Based on a comparative analysis of the results of current research and fundamental sociological sources covering the issues of personal and group behavior of the students of medical universities in relation to health, as well as the results of previously published own observations, taking into account the newly identified factors that affect the behavioral models of the modern student youth, in this article an attempt to comprehend and conceptualize the health-forming algorithm at the medical university, highlight the main directions of influence on the behavioral stereotypes and patterns of students, the formation of a rational attitude to the physical and psychological status, and the reduction of morbidity in the educational space is made. The proposed concept assumes a fundamentally new scheme for reducing the incidence rate and introducing previously unused methods of health saving among students. The structural-functional approach used in the development of the postulates of the concept makes it possible to determine and rank the significance of new functional relationships in the educational environment of a medical university, and the axiological approach to identify the most important values of students when making decisions regarding their own health. The article pays great attention to the applied aspects of health saving: the necessity of using interactive technologies and active interventions by the IT departments of the university in the existing network publics, popular among the students, generating original messages that initiate the formation of the need for introspection, obtaining new knowledge among students of medical specialties is substantiated. About the social value of health-saving behavior as a tool to improve social status, ways to implement the information are received.

LINGUISTIC AND INFORMATIVE FEATURES OF STUDYING THE THEME “PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION A PHYSICIAN AND A PATIENT WITH SYMPTOMS DISEASES OF DIGESTIVE SYSTEM’S ORGANS” OF DISCIPLINE “PROFESSIONAL MEDICAL COMMUNICATION OF A DOCTOR WITH A PATIENT IN UKRAINIAN

The article presents educational, informative and methodical materials necessary for studying the theme “Professional communication a physician and a patient with symptoms diseases of the digestive system’s organs” in classes on the discipline “Professional medical communication of a doctor with a patient in Ukrainian language”. The complex of tasks is aimed at the development of students’ communicative skills and abilities: to study the vocabulary to denote the organs of the digestive system, gastrointestinal diseases; be able to build monologue and dialogic expressions that describe the causes and symptoms of the digestive system’s diseases, using learned lexical units and phrases; to develop skills of collecting the anamnesis of gastroenterological diseases; memorize phrases and sentences for first aid in food poisoning, in emergencies during stomach pain; to create modern informative and expert systems for developing lesson’s materials. The proposed system of tasks will help to master the skills and abilities to communicate orally and in writing in accordance with the goals and social norms of speech behavior in typical spheres and situations. Taking into account different methods and forms of work, the tasks with which it was possible to ensure the active participation of each student in the class, to stimulate interest and desire to study medical terminology in accordance with the topic of the class are singled out. It was suggested a variety of test and creative tasks to check the knowledge of the student’s studied topic.
 The materials described in the article are intended for foreign students of medical specialties who speak the language at a sufficient level. Tasks selected on the basis of four main types of speech activity (listening, speaking, reading, writing) will help foreign students not only to expand their vocabulary, but also to achieve social interaction in a foreign language professional sphere.

In Russia, over the past five years, the number of criminal cases against doctors has increased 5 times; The medical community fears not only criminal prosecution, but also the criminalization of the profession. Patients rights activists also believe that criminal punishment deprives the profession of the opportunity to recognize doctors mistakes, analyze and correct them. Instead, doctors are intimidated by the possibility of criminal punishment, and they develop only a criminal mindset.
 In a number of cases, the life and health of citizens become the object of criminal encroachment on the part of medical workers, which makes iatrogenic crime one of the pressing problems of modern Russia, which is currently not properly studied, understood and analyzed from a scientific standpoint.  The first edition of the Atlas was well received by the medical community, as evidenced by the fact that it has become a bibliographic rarity. Academic writing skills in Russian of foreign students

The article analyzes the types of exercises for foreign students in order to develop academic skills. In particular, we are talking about foreign medical students. Speaking about the current trends towards updating the content of foreign language teaching and the new requirements of individual universities for the implementation of professional training in foreign languages, we have to state that due to the novelty and multidimensional nature of the phenomenon, this problem in the conditions of domestic higher combined education has been developed only to a small extent. In the context of distance learning, it is quite difficult for foreign students of medical faculties to read the text in their specialty and extract the information necessary to solve a specific speech problem. The article deals with the peculiarities of teaching academic writing in Russian as one of the types of speech activity. Special attention is paid to the distinctive features of the written speech by students of medical specialties; several stages of work based on structural and semantic analysis of the text material are highlighted and described. The development and implementation of adapted special texts and exercises in the educational process allow foreign students to understand the content of articles, accurately determine the main and secondary information in the material, reproduce its main content using the skills of summarizing, annotating, note-taking.

Study of factors influencing behavioral stereotypes regarding health in students of medical specialties

This article, from the standpoint of a structural-functional approach, explores the influence of socio-economic, social, organizational, psychological factors of the educational space of a medical university on the choice of students' behavioral strategies in relation to health-saving behavior. The results obtained indicate a low self-esteem by students of behavioral stereotypes regarding health. According to the data obtained, the average total variable quantitatively describing negative behavioral standards in the framework of the two-component model (stereotyping factors) is most strongly correlated with environmental factors such as disturbance in regular and rational nutrition, lack of comfortable living conditions and training, inaccessibility for various reasons of sports facilities, an uncomfortable class schedule and several others. The authors conclude that current models of beliefs about health, motivation-information-skills, planned behavior, subjective expected usefulness, motivation for protection, are poorly applicable to the studied category, which probably can be associated with a lack of propensity for introspection and reflection, rationalization of their own behavior, characteristic of student youth environment. At the same time, a pilot study of the tendency to copy behavioral stereotypes regarding health made it possible to draw a preliminary conclusion that most students refer to the behavior of friends, university teachers, and to a lesser extent opinion leaders and parents as role models. These data can be the basis for further expanded study of the processes of formation of behavioral strategies in relation to health and analysis of the results in the light of ideas about socially acceptable behavior of a person as a result of learning and communicative impact on a person.

The impact of the objective state and self-esteem of health on academic performance in senior students of medical and humanitarian specialties, taking into account various environmental factors

Purpose of the study. The goal is to conduct a comparative analysis of the correlation of learning success with self-assessment of physical and mental status and objective health status, taking into account the influence of demographic and socio-economic variables in senior students of medical and humanitarian specialties Materials and methods. The study was conducted from 01.12. 2017 to 01.03.2019 at the Far Eastern Federal University and the Pacific State Medical University. The sample size was 410 students (207 (50.6%) female, 203 (49.4%) male, average age 21.5 (1.2) years), who at the time of the study were studying in 4–6 courses. Information on demographic parameters, social conditions of study, residence, subjective data on morbidity and appeal was collected using: a comprehensive questionnaire on student status of a university (Pozdeeva, 2008; with additions of authors). The objective state of health and the comorbidity index were investigated when studying the medical documentation of medical institutions attached: Form 025 / y; 001–1 / y; 062 / y. In the study of quality of life associated with health, we used the international questionnaire “A short form of self-assessment of quality of life related to health MOS SF-36”. Results. The total score of self-esteem of physical well-being among students of humanities was 66.1 points, among students of medical specialties 56.4 points. Academic performance was higher among students of both directions, marking their learning conditions as satisfactory and good (r = 0.034; r = 0.048 / r = 0.045; r = 0.065). Student performance was also higher for students in both areas, evaluating the quality of education as high (r = 0.032; r = 0.046 / r = 0.033; r = 0.043), but lower for students with a high comorbidity index (r = –0.038 / r = –0.036). We also found that an increase in the number of HRQoL points is accompanied by a significant increase in academic performance in students of both directions (r = 0.035; r = 0.045 / r = 0.033; r = 0.050). An analysis of the linear regression model describing the association of academic performance with variables in the pooled sample revealed that this indicator strongly correlates with the comorbidity index (r = 8.27), HRQoL (r = 7.28), quality of education, and family income (5.55 / 5.06). At the same time, academic performance had an unreliable relationship with age, individual income, and weakly correlated with the conditions of study and residence. Conclusion. Chronic morbidity among senior medical and humanitarian students is high (comorbidity index 1.5–1.7), but the total self-assessment of the quality of life associated with health is 59–62 points and falls within the normal range of values. Thus, despite the high level of chronic somatic pathology, students generally positively assess their physical and psychological status.

Features of translation of medical instructions from English and French languages into Russian (Pharmacological discourse)

The purpose of the study is to reveal difficulties in translating instructions on the usage of medicines from English and French into Russian. Translation of medical instructions is a private form of medical translation that is in high demand. Each medicine should have a detailed description in Russian. With this document, a manufacturer guarantees to patient that subject to the prescribed standards, medicine will provide a certain effect that it is safe for life and health. The instruction is a kind of memo for a patient and a guarantee of the correctness of taking medicine. The authors of the article examined instructions for the use of medicines as genres of pharmaceutical discourse, highlighted the features of pharmaceutical terminology, examined ways to translate scientific terminology and vocabulary, analyzed translation techniques for transmitting vocabulary instructions for the use of medicines (translation of the instructions for the medicine «Sedalgin-Neo» from English into Russian, as well as instructions for the «Betaserk» medicine from French into Russian), errors were identified in their translation. The following research methods were used in the work: comparative typological method, empirical method, observation method, analysis and synthesis, a descriptive method, a method of comparative analysis of the original and translation, and generalisation of the obtained results. The theoretical significance of the study lies in the synthesis of theoretical material on the problem of translation of instructions for the use of medicines. The practical significance of the study lies in the fact that its results can be used in the practical activities of translators of specialized literature and in the development of special translation courses of scientific literature from French and English into Russian. In addition, the results of this study can be used in the development of educational materials for students of medical specialties, the organization of advanced training and the exchange of teaching experience.

COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE IMPACT OF PSYCHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE QUALITY OF LIFE AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC STATUS ON ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF RUSSIAN AND CHINESE STUDENTS OF MEDICAL SPECIALTIES IN THE ADJACENT TERRITORIES OF THE FAR EAST

The purpose of the study is to analyze the relationship of semester performance with the level of self-assessment of the psychological characteristics of quality of life related to health and factors of socio-economic status in Russian and Chinese students of medical specialties in the neighboring territories of the Far East. The study was conducted from 01.12. 2017 to 05.15.2019 at the School of Bio-Medicine of the Far Eastern Federal University (SBM FEFU), Pacific National Medical University (TSMU) of the Russian Federation, medical faculties of Harbin and Mudanjiang Universities (PRC). It was attended by 316 Russian and 302 Chinese students (total - 618 people with equal gender representation), the average age is 21.6 years. The average response rate was 92.8%. Students who took part in the study completed the standardized questionnaire “Short form of self-assessment of the quality of life associated with the health of the MOS SF-36” (MOS SF - Medical Outcomes Study-Short Form). The study of mental status was carried out using scales of resilience (FS), social functioning (SF), emotional status (ES), psychological comfort (PC). The study of socio-economic status was carried out according to the Questionnaire Pozdeeva (2008) with the additions of the authors. As a result of the study, it was found that the level of self-esteem of the psychological component of the quality of life related to health among Russian and Chinese medical students is within the range of standard values; Russian medical students rate psychological comfort higher, while their Chinese peers rate their own social functioning and resilience. Students of both samples showed a high level of correlation of the psychological component of the quality of life associated with health and academic performance. In addition, in both samples, the level of performance correlates with assessments of the conditions of study and living, as well as with individual characteristics of psychological status.

The relationship of self-assessment of health status and morbidity with academic performance in senior students of medical specialties, taking into account the impact of socio-economic and demographic characteristics

The purpose of the study: to study the relationship of academic performance with self-assessment of the quality of life associated with health and its objective condition, taking into account the influence of the most significant demographic and socio-economic parameters of senior students of medical specialties. Materials and methods. From 01.011.2017 to 15.06.2018, this study was conducted at the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) and at the Pacific State Medical University (TSMU). To participate in the study, we selected 316 students (155 (49,05%) female, 161 (51,5%) male, average age 21,2 (1,7) years), enrolled in 4–6 courses. The average response rate was 92,7%. Data on demographic variables, socio-economic status, living conditions and education, morbidity, behavioral characteristics, and a number of others were collected using the combined Self-Assessment Questionnaire for the demographic, socioeconomic, medical, and behavioral status of a university student. The presence of chronic diseases and the comorbidity index were verified by medical records of medical institutions. Statistical analysis of the information received was carried out by the program «Statistica 6.0». Results. The total composite evaluations of the KHSSL among students of FEFU and TSMU turned out to be almost identical (61,9/64,4, p<0,05). The comorbidity index of students at both universities was high (1,7–1,9), which indicated a high level of chronic morbidity. the weighted average variables, it was found that high family income (r = 0,037, p<0,05 for FEFU students and r=0,035, p<0,05 for their peers of their TSMU), and optimal conditions for learning and living (r=0,033, p<0,05 and r=0,046, p<0,05 in FEFU; r=0,034, p<0,05 and r=0,07, p<0,05 in TSMU). Conclusions. The success of training in each of the FEFU and TSMU students is strongly correlated with the comorbidity index and the KJVP, there is also a correlation of this indicator with the level of family income, the conditions of education and living, and the quality of education. A regression analysis of a combined sample of senior students of medical specialties reveals a correlation of learning success with KHSSZ indicators, a comorbidity index, as well as an assessment of the quality of education and the conditions of education and living.

Мотиваційні чинники англомовної професійної підготовленості майбутніх лікарів

The article presents the analysis of the dictionary definitions of the concepts of “motive” and “motivation”. Some psychological and pedagogical aspects of managing educational motivation are updated, specific ways and methods of forming and developing sustainable positive motivation in the study of English by future doctors are proposed. The relationship between the content of the educational process and the ways of its implementation is proved. The aim of the study is to analyze the existing problems of the formation of positive motivation for the study of English by future doctors. The motivation of future doctors is greatly facilitated by the transition from the accumulation of knowledge to their activation and further application, and is a prerequisite for the transition from passive possession of language knowledge, communicative skills to their active use for professional and personal purposes. The author distinguishes between cognitive and professional interests. An experiment conducted in natural conditions proved that in a system of motives, cognitive interest is the most well-established, least affected by side factors. The concept of “intrinsic motivation”, which occurs during the educational process, when future doctors begin to realize the real need to learn a foreign language, is considered. This can щссгк in the process of students participating in international student conferences, conversations with foreign students who study in medical health care in Ukraine, on-line communication with foreign medical colleagues, while reading modern professional English-language literature on the treatment and prevention of various diseases, which is carried out by leading medical world’s clinics and leading specialists, while getting acquainted with the latest foreign drugs and methods of treatment for various pathologies abroad and their сomparison with methods of treatment of the same pathologies in Ukrainian clinics. All these factors increase the desire of future doctors to achieve their goal which is to master the skills of English-speaking professional communication and leads to the development of the motivational sphere of students of medical specialties as an incentive to acquire new professional knowledge. Thus, as a result of creating positive motivation for students-future doctors, they purposefully, without external intervention from the teacher, use their potential in the format of an educational English-language environment to solve certain simulated professional tasks. Knowledge and awareness of periodontal diseases among Jordanian University students: A cross-sectional study.

Background:Oral health plays an important role to maintain the general health. Therefore, controlling periodontal diseases may have a profound health effect. The importance of oral health is still a neglected and ignored social issue because most of the people are unaware of the relationship between oral health and systemic diseases. The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge and awareness of periodontal diseases among Jordan University of science and technology students.Materials and Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted by distributing self-administered structured questionnaires to 906 university students between the ages of 18–30 years after obtaining their verbal consents.Results:A total of 906 students completed the questionnaire. Majority of students reported that they brush their teeth regularly while only 5.1% of students admitted that they never clean their teeth. Roughly one-quarter of students could define dental plaque correctly. A high “percentage” of females and medical students were more aware concerning gum inflammation signs and symptoms than males and students from faculties of engineering and science. Students of medical specialties and females were more aware of the relationship between smoking, diabetes mellitus, and heart diseases on the one hand and periodontal diseases on the other hand compared to opposite comparative groups. A low proportion of students were aware that proper scaling was not harmful to the teeth.Conclusions:In general, our study demonstrated that university students had poor knowledge regarding the etiology of periodontal diseases as well as the role of conventional treatment in maintaining good oral health by preventing the inflammatory process.

TEACHING MATHEMATICAL DISCIPLINES AT THE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

Introduction. In programs of training of students of medical specialties, Mathematics is a subject of basic education, i.e. non-core discipline. However, studying Mathematics is extremely important for future physicians, as recently there has been an impetuous development of mathematization in the field of health care. Today, a set of the new medical devices, the equipment and high technologies are being developed based on the mathematical modeling, analysis and forecasting. Mathematical methods are widely applied to diagnostics, development of life-support systems and the description of various biological processes both at the molecular level, and at the level of a whole organism, its systems, bodies and tissues. The solution of many medical tasks in the field of taxonomy, genetics, and organization of medical service is impossible without knowledge of mathematics. Unfortunately, along with the evident importance of mathematical preparation for a medical profession, its need is poorly realized not only by junior students, but even by some teachers of specialized departments of medical schools. The aim of the publication is to discuss the problems that arise in the teaching of mathematical disciplines to students at a medical school and to suggest possible solutions to these problems. Methodology and research methods. The study is based on the use of modeling of the educational process. The methods of analysis, generalization and the method of expert assessments were applied in the course of the research. Results and scientific novelty . The aspects of mathematical preparation at the university are considered on the basis of the application of the multiplicative model of training quality. It is shown that the main students’ learning difficulties in Mathematics are connected with the following factors: the initial level of mathematical preparation of students and their motivation; outdated methods of Mathematics teaching and academic content designing which is being complicated by existing imbalance between the amount of training material and time frame for its studying. The authors suppose that it is possible to improve the quality of education through the increase or redistribution of the number of teaching hours; stimulation students’ motivation; enhancement of content and methodical components of teaching by means of active use of electronic resources and information technologies. Teachers should aspire to avoid excessive mathematical formalism as well to form in students the skills of independent work through the use of mathematical and computer methods. Practical significance. The authors come to the conclusion that the transition from traditional teaching to the teaching through the technological application of mathematical methods in medical practice and independent conduction of medical research is required for improvement the quality of Mathematics teaching of future physicians.

The difficulty adapting of foreign students to the linguistic environment of Ukraine

This paper analyzes the contemporary prob-lems of socio-cultural adaptation that foreign students have to face in nowedays Ukraine. The major difficulties during the adaptation process and the ways of solving the problems of adaptation are considered on three main levels. The paper focuses on the three stages of entering the new individual macro and microenvironment and the difficulties arising on each of these stages. It has been indicated in the paper that during the adaptation of foreign students to the linguistic environment of Ukraine the most effective and efficient organization there should be considered the study, which would ensure the involvement of students in communicative activities, with consideration of factors which complicate the communication process.The effectiveness of the process of formation of communicative skills may also be provided by engaging students in activities that stimulate the process of studying and creates conditions for professionally oriented communication. In addressing these issues it would be appropriate to introduce such elements of communication as situational broadcasting and communication blocks. When it comes to mastering professional terminology, this process can be based on examples of speech situations and dialogues as well as polylogue. As for the speech situations, a necessary condition is that it should be made in the manner close to the natural conditions of communication and encourage the student to speech activity. It is appropriate to create communicative situations in the form of a dialogue, because it provides a natural and full use of audio and speech skills. Dialogues can be dedicated to different subjects. For example: 1) conversation between doctor and patient in the hospital; 2) conversation between the pharmacist and the buyer in pharmacy; 3) conversation between the seller and the buyer in the store; 4) the cashier and the customer conversation and more. In this form the foreign students learns to express their thoughts, opinions about various life situations obtain the necessary information. Well and skillfully organized conversation or discussion may facilitate in the highest degree the introduction and practical operationalization of the new linguocultural knowledge and experience in the shotest terms. In our view, through the work of such technique there may achieved the most active mastering of terminology and professional vocabulary by the students of medical specialties.
