Critical Thinking Skills and Reading Proficiency among the English Language Students of Public Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Sulu

The sobering realization of the critical thinking and the difficulty in the language comprehension, specifically in English language piques the researcher's interest in learning more about the experiences of tertiary students majoring in English language studies at other public HEIs in Sulu. This study sought to investigate the significant difference in the extent of critical thinking skills and reading proficiency among the English language students. This study employed a variety of statistical techniques, including the adopted weighted mean, standard deviation, t-Test for independent samples, One-way ANOVA, and Pearson’s r test of correlation to analyze the reading comprehension and critical thinking skills among English language learners in Sulu's public HEIs throughout the 2023–2024 academic year. A surveyed has been conducted on 200 female students aged 20-21 from public Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Sulu, revealing high critical thinking abilities and average reading proficiency ratings. Students' demographic profiles did not significantly influence their assessment of critical thinking or perceived reading proficiency. The study supports Anderson's Theory of Schema, which suggests that comprehension is an interactive process involving the reader's background knowledge and the text, requiring the ability to relate the material to one's own knowledge. The school administration will partner with language teachers to provide reading materials that enhance students' critical thinking skills and reading proficiency. Teachers must guide students to comprehend texts thoroughly, while parents play a crucial role in their children's future. Students will develop the ability to comprehend texts thorough through books and other reading materials provided by teachers. The objective of this study is to offer a foundation for upcoming researchers to enhance their own investigations on critical thinking abilities and reading competence within their field of study. The study will be conducted during the Academic Year 2023-2024 in Sulu province.

Philosophical and Psychological Foundations of Social Responsibility and Ethics

The topic of the paper was the philosophical and psychological foundations of social responsibility and ethics, and the subject was the component composition of social responsibility and ethics in the philosophical and psychological context. The purpose of the article was to empirically clarify the philosophical and psychological foundations of social responsibility and ethics. The research methodology included the following steps: the development of a questionnaire containing clarification of the features of social responsibility and ethics in a philosophical and psychological context; formation of a sample of students of higher educational institutions of Ukraine; collection of results using Google forms; mathematical calculation of the obtained results; formation and characteristics of groups of students in accordance with the peculiarities of the perception of social responsibility and ethics as a philosophical and psychological phenomenon. The structure of social responsibility and ethics includes ten components: cognitive; worldview; axiological; behavioural; sensual; communicative; social; cultural; national; historical. It is shown that behavioural features and socio-cultural background are the most important for the formation of social responsibility and ethics, sensory and communicative features, as well as the historical basis, are the least important. For a clearer understanding of the peculiarities of the studied phenomenon, a cluster analysis was carried out. It was revealed that variants of the interpretation of social consciousness and ethics can be divided into four clusters: the form of manifestation of individual behaviour; a form of manifestation of socially determined behaviour; form of manifestation of individual consciousness; a form of manifestation of social consciousness. The results obtained are the first step towards analysing the phenomenon of social responsibility and ethics. The following research ideas are related to a comparative analysis of the understanding of social responsibility and ethics by representatives of different social, age and national groups.

Los laboratorios virtuales y su inclusión en una institución educativa rural

This essay aims at discussing how virtual laboratories impact educational inclusion for high school and middle school chemistry students in a rural educational institution. It objectively examines virtual laboratories and educational inclusion, highlighting the benefits and drawbacks of these digital resources and the various perspectives on their relationship. Virtual laboratories, as pedagogical tools, are increasingly used in education, enabling students to conduct experiments in a safe, controlled environment without needing complex infrastructure, costly equipment, or hazardous materials. The essay also supports the idea that virtual laboratories are a cost-effective alternative, as infrastructure investment, reagents or similar costs, are they significantly reduced or zero. This leads to more efficient financial management in educational institutions, allowing for the reinvestment of resources into computer equipment that improves coverage and accessibility for students. As a result, virtual laboratories help bridge the gap in inclusion and access to information, enabling students to access educational experiences and resources from anywhere in the world.

Эколого-биологические методы формирования устойчивых лесомелиоративных комплексов в степных и полупустынных ландшафтах европейской территории России

The arid region of the European territory of Russia includes a zone of dry steppe (dark chestnut soils) and a semi-desert zone (light chestnut and brown soils). There is practically no woody natural vegetation in the region on elevations and plains, and on the prevailing complexes of zonal soils, forest plantations are characterized by low durability. Materials and methods. The work used the results of field (expedition) and laboratory studies of the growth, condition, durability, productivity of protective forest plantations of tree and shrub species in various soil and hydrological conditions of the dry-steppe and semi desert zones. Results and discussion. The author’s developments made it possible to recommend a reliable range of trees and shrubs for the creation of forest-reclamation plantations in each agroforestry area and soil ecological niche. It was revealed that when selecting the assortment, a significant role should be given to selection and genetic methods of using seed and planting material well adapted to local conditions (drought-, salt- and frost-resistant and healthy genotypes). The main reason for the early drying of protective plantations on complex light chestnut soils of the dry-steppe and semi-desert zones has been established. Taking into account the extremely arid conditions and the main causes of their drying, the concept of increasing their stability and effectiveness in adverse growing conditions is given. Agroforestry zoning and groups of soil forest suitability by type and classification, as well as groups of longevity of the main tree species are given. Conclusion. The large diversity of soils contributes to the formation of a stepped profile in adult cereals. Woody species shrink when their root system comes into contact with salt horizons. Ecological techniques are reduced to the correct selection of tree species that correspond to a specific ecological background. The technological use of differentiated agricultural cultivation techniques involves the use of moisture-saving technologies. Biological measures include biological reclamation of unsuitable soils and methods of breeding and genetic improvement of the qualitative composition of forest reclamation plantations. Suggestions for practical applications and directions for future research. The results of the work can be used by managers and specialists of forestry enterprises, researchers, graduate students, students of educational institutions. The assortment of trees and shrubs can be used in the design of plantings of various types on different soils.

DETERMINATION OF SATISFACTION OF STUDENTS OF III-VI COURSES PURCHASE OF PRACTICE AT THE CLINICAL BASES OF DEPARTMENT I IN THE UNIVERSITY CLINIC OF NMU NAMED AFTER O. O. BOHOMOLTSA

Background. Every year in the developed countries of the world, more and more attention is paid to the analysis of patient satisfaction with medical institutions, the list of offered medical services and the quality of their provision. However, an equally important aspect of improving the system of medical institutions should be considered to be the study of the level of satisfaction of medical students with taking practical classes on the basis of health care institutions. Such a judgment is based on the fact that students of medical educational institutions are future employees of the system of health care institutions and it is they who will have to work on improving this system in the future. Aim: to find out the degree of quality of educational services provided by students of the III-VI courses of the National Medical University named after O. O. Bogomolets by determining the level of satisfaction of education seekers regarding the acquisition of knowledge and the development of practical skills at the clinical bases of the departments and at the University Clinic of NMU. Materials and methods. The study was based on a survey of students of the III-VI courses regarding the completion of practical classes at the clinical bases of the departments and at the University Clinic of the National Medical University named after O. O. Bogomolets. The purpose of the survey was to establish the level of satisfaction of education seekers with the acquired knowledge and developed practical skills. The methods of the conducted research, in addition to questionnaires, were comparison, specification, and systematic analysis. Results. 444 respondents took part in the survey - students of the III-VI courses in the specialties "Medicine", "Medicine", "Pediatrics", "Dentistry" of the first-third medical and dental faculties. At the first stage, attention was focused on comparing the number of people in groups when working with medical equipment during practical classes at the clinical bases of the departments and the University Clinic. As a result of the comparison, no statistically significant difference was found in the number of people in the groups when working with medical equipment during practical classes at the clinical bases of the departments and at the University Clinic (p=0.941 according to the T-Wilcoxon test). The second and third stages mainly concerned the analysis of evaluation of the University Clinic. At the second stage, attempts were made to reveal the relationship between the number of people in groups while working with medical equipment during practical classes at the University Clinic and their grades. The third stage of research revealed the difference in the results of the answers of students of the III-IV and V-VI courses. Conclusion. Almost all respondents provided answers to 13 questions of the questionnaire, only a small percentage of respondents did not provide answers to the last 2 questions. The numerical indicators of the answers showed a big difference between positive and negative feedback about the general impressions of the internship at the University Clinic (Questions I-III of the questionnaire). As a result of the comparison between the work with medical equipment at the clinical bases of the departments and at the University Clinic, no statistically significant difference in the number of people in the groups was found (p=0.941 according to the T-Wilcoxon test). Students and 6th year students were recognized as the most active in the positive evaluation of the level of satisfaction with the internship. In general, almost all comments and suggestions of respondents of all courses and specialties pointed to the need to increase practical classes and practical hours of working with medical equipment.

A PRELIMINARY STUDY ON DEBT PERCEPTION TOWARDS MALAYSIAN UNIVERSITY STUDENT

Debt has become an increasingly worrying issue among students of higher education institutions in Malaysia. A pilot study was conducted using survey techniques to assess the level of financial knowledge, attitudes, and practices among 33 students from faculty accounting at Universiti Teknologi Mara Kota Kinabalu Branch, Sabah. The research instrument consisted of structured questionnaires. The pilot study findings indicate a significant gap between respondents' knowledge, attitudes, and financial practices. Therefore, a full-scale study is proposed to investigate the perception of debt among students at this university in greater depth. The findings from this study are hoped to assist the university and government in formulating appropriate awareness and intervention programs to address student debt issues.

THE ATTITUDE TO HUMOR AS A PEDAGOGICAL TOOL IN THE PERIOD OF ANTIQUITY

Purpose. To consider the process of formation of the pedagogical foundations of humor in the philosophical thought of Ancient times of the VIII century BC – V century AD. Methods. In the course of the study, the methods of historical and pedagogical research were used: retrospective, historical-structural, historiographical, historical-genetic, comparative, comparative, historical periodization method, which together allowed for a systematic analysis of the transformation of changes in attitude to humor from a phenomenon of the surrounding reality to an element of the educational process. Results. The process of formation of philosophical thought in relation to humor as a means of educational influence is summarized by demonstrating the development of the literature of Antiquity. The main literary genres containing elements of comedy and bearing an educational component are listed. The main concepts of the perception of humor (Aristophanes, Plato, Aristotle, Demetrius, Cicero) formed during this period are considered. A look at the Socratic dialogue system is given as one of the first humorous techniques in pedagogy. Practical implications. The obtained results can be applied in the creation of a unified overview of historical and pedagogical work devoted to the formation and development of humor as a special means of influence in pedagogy, as well as in solving applied didactic tasks in secondary and higher schools. The research materials can form the basis of lectures and seminars on the discipline «History of pedagogy and education» for students of pedagogical specialties and higher educational institutions.

Assessment of Russian Learners’ Institutional Confidence for the Vocational Education System

Introduction. An important factor influencing the development and stability of the vocational education system in Russia is the trust of students in educational institutions and policies in the field of vocational education in the country and regions. The purpose of the study is to assess the level of institutional trust exhibited by Russian students to the vocational education system and educational policy implemented at various levels; to develop measures to strengthen it. Materials and Methods. To study the problem, a questionnaire survey was conducted, in which 1,150 students enrolled in higher education programs and 1,150 students enrolled in secondary vocational education programs (2,300 people in total) took part. Educational institutions were located in 48 subjects of the Russian Federation of all federal districts. Generalization of the results and formation of conclusions was carried out by induction method. Results. The average level of institutional trust of students in the Russian vocational education system was revealed; the lowest level of trust is observed in the policy in the field of vocational education at the federal and regional levels. The correlation and regression analysis revealed that the index of trust exhibited by student youth of the Russian Federation to the modern policy in the field of higher and secondary vocational education directly correlates with the level of quality of life of the population and the degree of satisfaction with the qualitative parameters of the educational process. Discussion and Conclusion. The theoretical and methodological provisions developed as a result of the conducted research develop existing approaches and tools for studying the institutional trust of students in the vocational education system. A set of measures has been developed that will increase the academic and social involvement of students in the educational community, the level of satisfaction with the educational process and the justification of educational expectations.

DEVELOPMENT OF SOFT SKILLS OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS BY THE MEANS OF THEATRICALIZATION

The article investigates the problem of forming "soft skills" of the students of primary education institutions by means of theatricalization based on the Concept of the New Ukrainian School (NUS). The general characteristics of theatricalization are given and it is defined as an artistic activity related to the perception of works of theatrical art and reproduction in a playful form of acquired ideas, impressions, feelings, one of the most effective means of pedagogical influence on the development of a child's personality. The effectiveness of theatricalization as a means of forming soft skills in elementary school students based on their psychological and pedagogical characteristics (emotional sensitivity to the events taking place, differentiation of emotional experiences and cognitive schemes for recognizing emotions; sensory coloring of perception, imagination, mental and physical activity; immediacy) and frankness in the expression of one's emotional experiences; formation of speech skills, verbal expression of emotions, active development of the vocabulary of emotions, etc.). A systematized toolkit of means of theatricalization in terms of the development of soft skills of primary school students was tested in practice. The main stages of theatricalization, as well as the development of soft skills in elementary school students by means of theatricalization are proposed, with the basic forms of their implementation in the practice of school education (preparatory and active implementation) being highlighted. A description of effective forms of theatrical art that ensure the development of soft skills is presented, including: collective viewings of plays, theatrical games, dramatization games, staging games, games on the themes of literary works, roleplaying games, director's games, production of plays, creation of mini-theaters, etc. Examples of the use of exercises with theatrical elements for the formation of "soft skills" in elementary school students are given. They include: "All About Me", "The Moment of Glory", "Butterflies", "Gloves", "New Year's Boots of St. Nicholas", "A picture of fear" and others. A conclusion was made about the perspective of using theatrical means for the development of soft skills in the "Child" program in the sections: "Child's personality", "Child's speech", "Child in society", "Child's play", "Child in sensory cognitive space" in the course "I explore the world" of elementary school.

The scientific article addresses the problem of violation of the psychological and emotional state of students of higher educational institutions. A literature review was conducted to identify key factors influencing the personality of students in higher education. Stressful situations arising in student life are examined, and recommendations are proposed for developing comprehensive measures and support programs for students. This study highlights the importance and necessity of preventive work, training in stress management strategies and providing psychological support to persons exposed to the risks indicated in the article. Furthermore, the article presents research findings on the impact of short-term periodic physical training on the mental and emotional state of individuals. The work holds practical significance for higher education institutions and professionals in the fields of psychology and pedagogy.

The article reviews the "Pedagogical School" project, created and implemented in the State Budgetary Institution of Additional Professional Education "Center for Continuous Development of Professional Mastery of Teaching Staff" of the Ministry of Enlightenment and Science of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic in order to familiarize students of educational institutions of higher education with the main aspects of the teaching profession and provide them with the opportunity to consider teaching as a potential profession. The article examines the main aspects of the project, its goals and objectives, analyzes the results of the project and its impact on the professional self-determination of participants.

Freshmen mental health diagnostics in higher education institutions under martial law

Purpose. Empirical study of mental health of first-year students of higher education institutions under martial law conditions. Methods. The research program was developed to achieve the goal, which included four diagnostic methods: the questionnaire ‘Self-assessment of states of anxiety, frustration, aggressiveness and rigidity” (adapted version of H. Eysenck method), the “Resistance to stress” test, “Questionnaire for measuring the locus of health control” (K. Wallston, B.S. Wallston, & R. Devellis) (adaptation by L. Karamushka, K. Tereshchenko, O. Kredentser), “Positive mental health scale (pmh-scale)” (J. Lukat, J. Margraf, R. Lutz, W.M. Van Der Veld, & E.S. Becker) (adaptation by L. Karamushka, O. Kredentser, K. Tereshchenko). Results. According to the study results, it was found that the majority of young people of early adolescence take an ambivalent position in choosing a strategy for assessing their own emotional states and follow the same tactics in choosing options for supporting and preserving mental health under the martial law conditions. They are rigid in the options for its change, since such actions are tested for effectiveness, and therefore have practical value. Such a behavioral strategy helps to keep the degree of anxiety, stress resistance and aggression at average levels, to maintain an internal emotional balance and to feel healthy and happy. Another part of respondents who participate in our empirical study gravitate towards extreme options for controlling their own physical condition. Young people with external locus of control rely more on the help of external circumstances, which will be useful for the return of internal harmony. Students with internal locus of control rely solely on themselves when choosing an option for maintaining mental health. It is difficult to determine which of these positions is more rational, it is important that it is as effective as possible in maintaining mental health. That actualizes the study of the outlined problems. Conclusions. The conducted theoretical and empirical research confirms the effectiveness of the proposed diagnostic program for mental health of first-year students of higher education institutions under the martial law conditions. We see the prospect of further study in the development of empirical research programs of other components of mental health and involvement of persons of various ages into the research.

Development of an Experimental Methodology Focused on Formation of Competences Promotion in the Applied (Profile) Physical Culture and Sport Among Student Youth

This article examines the current state of professional competence development focused on promoting physical culture and sport (PCS) participation among students in educational institutions. The role of organizing and disseminating information campaigns to the population by specialists in PCS has been emphasized. This highlights the necessity to form among graduates of secondary educational institutions and first-year university students the competences required to effectively popularize PCS activities. The paper presents the findings of a pedagogical experiment involving graduates from specialized sports classes in secondary education and first-year students at Khmelnytskyi National University enrolled in the "Secondary Education. Physical Education" (014.11) program. The effectiveness of the method of competences formation in the promotion of physical culture and sports among students has been confirmed by the results of the pedagogical experiment, in the process of which a reliable increase in the level of formation of competences among student youth is expected as measured against the National Higher Education Standard for the "Secondary Education. Physical Culture" (014.11) specialty within the bachelor's degree program. Furthermore, a methodological and diagnostic toolkit has been developed. This toolkit can be implemented in the training of student educators (bachelor's level) at pedagogical and other higher education institutions, particularly in courses related to psychology and pedagogy. Additionally, it can be employed in training programs for teachers and coaches working in the field of PCS.

This article deals with the issue of enhancing the mental activity of students of higher educational institutions during their professional training. We tried to clarify the content of the concept of "mental activity of university students", determine and experimentally investigate the factors influencing its activation. These factors include the humanization and psychologization of the educational process at the university, the creation of a safe socio-psychological environment at the university, the provision of a health-preserving focus of the educational process and the compliance with ergonomic requirements for it, the organization of training students in a cooperation mode and the use of innovative methods and technologies in the classroom that activate the mental activity of students.

Adaptation of the curriculum for physical education of students of higher education institutions in the conditions of distance learning

Is geriatric medicine teaching homogeneous? The analysis of geriatric medicine courses at Polish undergraduate medical programmes.

We aimed to analyse the characteristics of geriatric courses offered to undergraduate medical students in higher educational institutions (HEIs) in Poland. We searched the official websites of the HEIs offering the medical degree programmes and directly contacted the dean's offices and HEIs representatives to retrieve the relevant information. The documents were analysed for course content, teaching methods, duration, and recommended texts. We also checked the obtained curricula for the reference to of the learning objectives related to geriatric medicine, selected from the currently endorsed Polish educational standards (ES) provided by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Geriatric medicine courses were obligatory at all included HEIs (n = 19), but the courses differed in structure and content. The courses varied in duration from 11 to 60h and were primarily lecture based. Simulation was utilized at only one HEI and e-learning at two institutions. Out of 315 learning objectives, we acknowledged only 9 as geriatric. They were not always found in all curricula. Two HEIs included self-described learning objectives in their curricula. Across all HEIs, a total of 29 recommended texts (published between 1995 and 2021) were identified, including 2 English-language texts. Geriatric medicine was a mandatory subject for medical students of the included HEIs. However, there was a lack of uniformity in the offered courses. This leaves room for the development of a unified undergraduate geriatrics curriculum to effectively address diverse geriatric issues across Europe. The importance of this matter is highlighted by demographic trends and workforce challenges.

Didactic foundations of forming mathematical competence of secondary school students in learning the syntax of the Ukrainian language

Developing a competent personality involves conceptualising the content of language education. In implementing the New Ukrainian School reform, many problematic issues arise regarding the practical reorientation to new standards. Special attention needs to be paid to the organisation of the educational activities of male and female students, in which their integrated ability to apply acquired knowledge in life situations is formed. The research of linguists is focused on developing interconnected ways of combining the subject and key competencies of learners, which contribute to their successful socialisation in society. Considering educational requirements makes it necessary to highlight the methodological potential of forming mathematical competence as a component of linguistic personality. The following methods were used to solve the outlined tasks: analysis and synthesis of scientific research, induction and deduction to determine the categorical concept and substantiation of the theoretical and methodological foundations of the problem. The article analyses modern approaches and principles of language learning, particularly Ukrainian syntax. The concept of "mathematical competence of secondary school students in learning the syntax of the Ukrainian language" has been interpreted. The system of didactic tools for forming students' mathematical competence has been organised. The results of the conducted research are the basis of the professional activities of the lexicographer in the lessons in the preparation of harmoniously developed students of general secondary education institutions.
