Representation and Ideology of Feminism in the Remake of the First Indonesian Heroine Character "Sri Asih"

The figure of Sri Asih became a pioneer in the symbolism of women's strength free from the influence of marital status, which was a reaction to the strong patriarchal culture in Indonesia. The figure of Sri Asih was then remade by Studio Bumi Langit and shown in Indonesian cinemas in 2022. The figure of Sri Asih was chosen because she is the first superhero figure from Indonesia. The aspects studied are the elements that form an identity, such as the representation of beauty, characteristics, and the role of women that appear in the figure of Sri Asih. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method and John Fiske's code theory. The urgency of this study is to reveal how the figure of Sri Asih is able to reconstruct the values ​​of women's identity in Indonesian society in the millennial era. The purpose is to explain what codes of reality, representation, and ideology exist in the figure of Sri Asih, and the research study results are the ideas for applying John Fiske's code theory to the figure of Sri Asih. In conclusion, the ideology of feminism in the character of Sri Asih is represented in the form of women's empowerment, gender equality, rejection of violence against women and the collapse of gender stereotypes.

Deconstruction Of The Meaning Of Polygamy In Women's Perspective In The Movie “Atas Nama Surga”

This study deconstructs the meaning of polygamy in the film “Atas Nama Surga” as an act of assertiveness by women `who reject polygamy, signifying the importance of maintaining women's strength and dignity. This study emphasizes women's perspectives, providing awareness of the importance of having the courage to speak one's mind. The research method uses a qualitative literature study with movie analysis from the MAXstream platform as primary data, and journals, books, articles, and online sources as secondary data. The results identify the deconstruction of polygamy as a cause of women's suffering, the potential for violence, and as a form of male selfishness. Factors such as experience, knowledge, and economic power influence the emergence of this deconstruction of meaning. The implications include stereotyping men as violent and selfish, polygamy being perceived as material control, and the difficulty of realizing a monogamous marriage. Despite the limited focus on one movie, this research provides a basis for extending the deconstruction to other works.

'Between Inner Strength and Fighting Prejudice': Psycho-Social Processes Implemented by Women with Leukemia Along the Illness Trajectory: A Grounded Theory Study.

Disease trajectories in leukemia are often unpredictable and recurrent, and patients' experiences can impact their quality of life. Studies in the literature often do not explore gender-related illness experiences from an intersectional approach and throughout the illness trajectory. This comprehensive study aims to explore the full spectrum of experiences lived by women with leukemia throughout the disease trajectory, from diagnosis to treatments and post-stem cell transplant follow-up. A grounded theory approach was meticulously developed to analyze semi-structured interviews with 13 women with leukemia in the post-transplant follow-up phase at a hospital in Northern Italy. The data analysis was an iterative process, conducted concurrently using a constant comparative method. Data collection concluded when data saturation was reached. The core category identified is women's inner strength during the disease trajectory, which was identified for its recurrence and cross-cutting nature, according to the women. This core category interconnects with five main categories: 1. Facing the disease: Between resistance and surrender. 2. Living for today and moving forward. 3. Unexpected elements in relationships. 4. Changes that shape women. 5. Demystifying the body and embracing 'diminished beauty'. An explanatory model of the disease trajectory of women with leukemia was defined as: 'Women with leukemia, between inner strength and fighting prejudice'. An in-depth analysis of the disease experiences revealed aspects that are not easily understood through a purely biological perspective of gender differences, often overlooking the psycho-social and relational peculiarities of women.

Association of Hormonal Exposures With Grip Strength in Women >45 Years: Data From the CONSTANCES Cohort Study.

Although biological findings show that estrogens are beneficial for muscular mass maintenance and bone resorption inhibition, the association of hormonal exposure with physical performance are controversial. We investigated the association of reproductive history and exogenous hormone use with hand-grip strength (GS) in women. Using the data from the CONSTANCES French prospective population-based cohort study, we ran linear mixed models to investigate the association of reproductive history and exogenous hormones use with maximal GS in 37 976 women aged 45 to 69 years recruited between 2012 and 2020. We used multiple imputation by chained equations to control missing values and corrections for multiple testing. The mean age of women was 57.2 years. Mean GS was 26.6 kg. After adjustment for age and confounders, GS increased with age at menarche (β+1 year = 0.14; 95% CI, 0.10-0.17) and duration of breastfeeding (β for ≥10 months vs <5 months = 0.39; 95% CI, 0.20-0.59; P for linear trend <.01). Compared to nonmenopausal women, postmenopausal women had significantly lower GS (β = -0.78; 95% CI, -0.98 to -0.58). GS was negatively associated with hormone therapy (HT) past use (β = -0.25; 95% CI, -0.42 to -0.07). Our results suggested that menopausal transition was strongly associated with lower GS. However, despite our hypothesis, increased age at menarche and duration of breastfeeding were associated with higher GS and HT past users presented lower GS than HT never users. These findings could help identify women at high risk of poor physical performance.

Determinants of Women Empowerment and Its Impact on Community Development in Saudi Arabia

Objectives: The present study aimed to explore and evaluate the significant determinants of women empowerment and to examine their impact on community development in the Saudi Arabian context. Methods: The study employed a descriptive analytical approach using a distributed questionnaire. All the measurement items were taken from previous studies with slight changes in the statements to make them appropriate for the current study. A sample of 310 female faculty members in Jazan University was drawn using the convenience sampling method. For hypotheses testing, Structural Equation Modeling was mainly employed using Smart PLS. Results: Three determinants of women's empowerment—educational, economic, and social—were considered independent variables, and their impacts on community development were examined as the dependent variable. The findings of the study revealed that the educational aspect is the most influential factor that determines women's empowerment in Saudi Arabia and, thereby, connection with community development, followed by the economic and social domains of women's empowerment. Conclusions: The results of this study will enable other nations to recognize women's strengths and utilize them for national development and economic progress. This research can help policymakers and government officials develop targeted policies and strategies for educational, economic, and social empowerment that are consistent with Saudi Arabia Vision 2030. This can aid in the efficient allocation of resources and implementation of initiatives designed to promote community development.

A blessing in disguise? The socio-economic impact of Covid-19 on urban women in Zimbabwe

The Covid-19 pandemic that broke out in 2019 was one of the largest epidemics in human history after the Spanish flu of 1918-1919 (Trilla, Trilla and Daer, 2008). Its spread across Africa, and Zimbabwe in particular, shook economies and disrupted social structures, severely affecting the mental health of the populace. However, calamities like Covid-19 are hardly gender-neutral. While Covid-19 had negative psychosocial and economic impacts on all gender groups, women suffered disproportionately from the socio-economic and psychological toll of the epidemic. Using qualitative research methods based on interviews and observations in Harare Zimbabwe, this article explores the experiences of urban Zimbabwean women during the Covid-19 pandemic. The outbreak of covid-19 and the consequential lockdowns had a marked disruptive effect on urban formal and informal sources of livelihoods than it had on the largely subsistence rural economy. We, therefore, analyse the urban socio-cultural and economic contexts that shaped women's daily experiences in the context of Covid-19 and how this affected their economic and psychological situation. We aver that while Covid-19 made women 'beasts of burden' who had to provide for the household and family, it also served as a means of social reconstruction and provided opportunities for women's social and economic advancement and long-term psychological well-being. Covid-19 broke down and weakened the manipulative patriarchal socio-cultural norms that excluded women from economic and social advancement. Using the neo-dependency analytical framework, this article contends that while crises worsen conditions for vulnerable groups, there should also be space to celebrate the breaking of exploitative social structures that have kept women in subservient positions for centuries. By exposing the weaknesses of patriarchy, Covid-19 signalled the development of a new social order that recognises and celebrates women's courage, strengths, and resilience in times of crisis.

Exploring the association between grip strength and adverse pregnancy and perinatal outcomes: A Mendelian randomization study

BackgroundPrevious observational studies have demonstrated an association between grip strength and detrimental pregnancy and perinatal outcomes. However, the causality of this relationship remains uncertain. ObjectiveThis study aims to investigate if there is a causal relationship between grip strength and adverse pregnancy and perinatal outcomes, providing evidence to support active intervention for adverse pregnancy outcomes. Study designA two-sample Mendelian randomization method was used to select GWAS data from the UK Biobank and the FinnGen Biobank as data sources. The inverse variance weighting method was used as the main analysis method. The reliability of the results was verified through sensitivity analysis, including Cochran's Q test, MR-egger intercept regression analysis, leave-one-out analysis, and funnel plot. Independent queues are also used to verify the reliability of the results. ResultsThe study demonstrated a significant positive correlation between genetically predicted hand grip strength and offspring birth weight, specifically left-hand grip strength (β = 0.193, 95 % CI: 0.099–0.286, p = 0.0001) and right-hand grip strength (β = 0.310, 95 % CI: 0.235–0.384, p = 3.27E-16). Sensitivity analysis indicated no horizontal multi-effect, and leave-one-out analysis along with the funnel plot showed no abnormalities. The verification queue also yielded similar results. ConclusionThis study revealed a significant association between grip strength-related traits and offspring birth weight, suggesting a potential protective effect. Moreover, a negative predictive trend was observed for other adverse pregnancy outcomes. Modifying grip strength through an active lifestyle and continuous monitoring of pregnant women's grip strength may have implications for improving pregnancy outcomes. However, further research is warranted to investigate these findings more comprehensively.

Menstrual cycle and strength levels in women: a pilot study

It is speculated that hormonal fluctuations during the different menstrual cycle (MC) phases can influence physiological systems, such as musculoskeletal, and can also impact physical performance and quality of life. The aimed to check and compare the effects of MC on women's strength levels. The sample was made up of 18-30 years old women, who were using (G1) or not (G2) Oral Contraceptives (OC). Hormonal concentrations were determined using blood extraction, while muscle strength (FM) was assessed through the maximal dynamic strength (1RM) and muscle power tests at 40%, 60%, and 80%. The data were processed using two-factor ANCOVA (group and time), at a significance level of p &lt; 0.05. Hormonal values showed greater significant differences in almost all hormones and G1 phases. The results of the FM tests showed a significant reduction of 1 RM (day 21) in G1, with a moderate effect size on days 21 and 11. In the G1 muscle power (MP) test, on day 01 there was a significant increase in 60% concerning day 11 and day 21. It can be considered that the hormonal behavior of both groups was maintained throughout the evaluations. Regarding FM manifestations, it is suggested that regular MC, without the use of OC, induces a reduction in FM levels during days 11 and 21 in women. However, the group that used OC had a larger effect size on 40% on day 01 and 40% on day 21.

This article critiques the prevailing damaged-based framework used in research on Chinese international students, advocating for a shift towards a desire-based framework inspired by Tuck's critique. While gender differences are often overlooked, recent studies highlight distinct challenges faced by female Chinese international graduate students. Centering on their experiences, this study introduces the "Women Strength" framework to amplify their voices, remove stereotypes, and foster empowerment within academia and society. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of their lived experiences and advocates for their recognition and empowerment.

Relationship between quadriceps femoris echotexture biomarkers and muscle strength and physical function in older adults with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction

BackgroundMuscle wasting is pronounced in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). The quadriceps femoris echotexture biomarkers assessed by ultrasound (US) have not been studied in these patients. ObjectiveTo describe echotexture biomarkers assessed by the US and to assess their relationship with sex, age, body mass index (BMI), self-reported outcomes, muscle strength and physical function in older adults with HFpEF. MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted. Patients 70 years and older with HFpEF were included. The sex, age, BMI, and self-reported outcomes were collected. The US assessed muscle and subcutaneous fat tissue contrast, correlation, energy, homogeneity, and entropy at rest and maximal voluntary isometrical contraction (MVIC). The six-minute walk test (6MWT), the short physical performance battery (SPPB), the timed up and go test (TUG), the usual pace gait speed test (UGS), and the fast pace gait speed test (FGS) were used to assess physical function. The five-repetitions sit-to-stand test (5-STS) was performed to assess muscle strength. Bivariant Pearson correlations and subsequent multivariate linear regression analyses were conducted. ResultsSeventy-two older adults with HFpEF [81.06 years, 29.13 BMI, and 55.60% females] were recruited. In women, relaxed and MVIC muscle energy and entropy explained 35.40% of the TUG variance; relaxed muscle entropy and MVIC muscle energy shared 24.00% of the UGS variance; relaxed and MVIC muscle entropy, MVIC muscle contrast and MVIC muscle energy explained 32.60% of the FGS variance, adjusted all the models by age and BMI. ConclusionsEchotexture biomarkers are related to women's muscle strength and physical function, especially muscle energy, contrast, and entropy. Echotexture biomarkers assessed by the US could facilitate the management of older adults with HFpEF, monitor its progression and assess the effectiveness of treatments on the musculoskeletal structure. Psychological empowerment and exercising: The relationships between exercising, self‐stereotyping, agency, autonomy and physical self‐efficacy in non‐Western women

AbstractDespite recent efforts towards equality, there are still gender disparities in Middle Eastern societies, where women are often discouraged from viewing themselves as autonomous, competent and self‐determining individuals due to the internalization of traditional gender norms. Research on women's empowerment in multicultural and non‐Western societies is scarce. In the absence of other interventions, exercising has been effective in increasing women's psychological and physical strength. The present study focused on women (N = 250) living in a non‐Western and multicultural environment, aiming to assess whether (a) self‐stereotyping negatively correlates with factors of empowerment (operationalized as a sense of autonomy, agency and self‐efficacy) and exercising, (b) exercising is positively associated with factors of empowerment and (c) if exercising would mediate the hypothesized relationship of self‐stereotyping on empowerment. Secondly, the study also qualitatively explored the subjectively reported exercising motives and outcomes. The results of quantitative analyses confirmed that self‐stereotyping was negatively correlated with autonomy and agency, but not with physical self‐efficacy. Exercising was positively correlated with all the factors of empowerment and negatively with self‐stereotyping. The structural equation modelling supported the intermediary role of exercising in the associations between self‐stereotyping and autonomy and agency. The qualitative analysis revealed that although the participants principally exercised for health‐related motives, the reported outcome was primarily reflective of experiences of empowerment. The findings could be used to inform current policies and interventions geared towards women to support and promote their physical and psychological well‐being.

Body composition and risk for sarcopenia in transgender women

ObjectivesBody composition and strength of cisgender (cis) individuals are well established. However, those for transgender women (trans women) undergoing gender-affirming hormone therapy remain unclear. This study aimed to detect possible body composition and strength variations related to sarcopenia. MethodsThis was a cross-sectional comparative study of 37 trans women, 34 cis men, and 34 cis women. Body composition was measured in all individuals by bioelectrical impedance analysis; prehensile strength by dynamometry was studied in trans women. ResultsIn this study, trans women had higher body mass index values than cis individuals (P < 0.01). Fat mass was 41% higher for trans women than cis men. Muscle mass (MM) was lower in trans women than cis men (–10%), and higher than cis women (24%). Bone mass was lower in trans women than cis men and higher in cis women (P < 0.01). Trans women's prehensile strengths were 25.26 kg for the right hand and 24.8 kg for the left. Appendicular skeletal muscle mass was 23.63 kg, and appendicular skeletal muscle mass index was 8.14 kg. ConclusionTrans women undergoing gender-affirming hormone therapy show a tendency to adapt body compartments to those of cis women with increased fat mass and reduced muscle mass. Prehensile strength in trans women was close to the cutoff points for sarcopenia risk. Nutrition, physical activity, strength, and body composition are important to avoid the possible risk for sarcopenia. More studies along these lines are necessary, especially in older adults.

Efficacy of Modified Progressive Resistance Training on Knee Strength in Women with Early Onset of Knee Osteoarthritis

Background: The synovial joint capsule, subchondral bone, and joint cartilage are all impacted by the gradualdegenerative condition known as OA. This research work is designed to check the efficacy of modified progressiveresistance training for OA knee patients.Purpose: To compare the effectiveness of modified progressive resistance training and conventional treatment onknee strength in early onset knee OA.Materials and Methods: 370 subjects were screened for study from GNK physiotherapy clinic according toinclusion and exclusion criteria from november 2022 to june 2023. Patient’s authorization was acquired afterthe procedure was completely clarified to them. They were divided into two categories: Group A (n=185) andGroup B (n=185). The pre and post-test values measured by WOMAC questionnaire and MMT. Group A receivedconventional treatment that is strengthening and stretching exercises and Group B received modified progressiveresistance training using Thera band along with conventional treatment. Both training programs were given for 4weeks, weekly 5 daysResults: A statistically important distinction &lt;0.0001 between groups A and B was found via statistical analysis ofinformation that was quantitative.Conclusion: Modified progressive resistance training using Thera band of group A were proven to be moresuccessful than group A Traditional therapy.

In 21st-century China, amidst the trend of internationalization, Chinese opera has been narrating various themes relevant to the contemporary context. This study aims to explore both the differences and similarities between the portrayal of women in 21st-century Chinese opera and the traditional female image of the past. Chinese opera is categorized into three thematic categories: 'Red Revolution', 'Traditional Legend', and 'Reality and Women's Love'. This study analyzes the formation of heroine roles and the status and functions of women within these themes. The conclusions of the study are as follows: First, while the representation of females in 21st-century Chinese opera often adheres to established archetypes, it also explores a variety of expressive possibilities. Second, the social status of women is intricately linked to their depiction in opera, where women are not only performers but also creators. Third, a distinctive characteristic of Chinese opera is the creation of new female characters, diverging from traditional portrayals. Through these roles, Chinese opera delves into social issues and values, significantly influencing the empowerment and development of women's identity and inner strength in this century.

Studies from the Ministry of Health in the profile of health problems in Indonesia show that about 40.59% of illnesses suffered by workers are work-related. Health problems experienced by workers based on research conducted on 9,482 workers in 12 districts/ cities in Indonesia showed the highest number, namely musculoskeletal disorders (16%) followed by cardiovascular disorders (8%), nervous disorders (596). respiratory disorders (3%), and ENT disorders (1.5%) (Sekaaram &amp; Ani, 2017).&#x0D; This research method uses a Literature Review or literature review with a Systematic Literature Review approach by searching for articles through search engines such as Google Scholar. The keywords used in the search for articles in research on ergonomic risk, age, gender, MSDs, NBM.in selecting articles using inclusion criteria and journal analysis.&#x0D; The results of the literature review on age obtained 5 journals where 4 of these journals had a relationship and I of these journals had no relationship between age and musculoskeletal complaints in industrial workers. Meanwhile, the results of the literature review on gender obtained 5 journals where 2 of these journals had a relationship and 3 of them had no relationship between gender and musculoskeletal complaints in industrial workers.&#x0D; The conclusion states that there is a relationship between age and musculoskeletal complaints, while there is no relationship between gender and musculoskeletal complaints. Suggested it is preferable for women workers aged 30 years to differentiate between working period and working time because women's muscle strength is different from men's muscle strength as well as work methods and work rotation regularly so that skeletal muscle complaints can be minimized.

Influence of visual acuity, manual dexterity and handgrip strength on oral and denture hygiene ability of non-frail older people: Development of the Gerostomatological Assessment Battery.

Due to the heterogeneity of older people, it is difficult to identify reliable factors influencing oral health. The aim was to illustrate the influence of visual acuity, manual dexterity, and handgrip strength on the oral and denture hygiene ability of older non-frail people. In a cross-sectional study, conducted at a specialized dental clinic, at baseline, all participants received professional prophylaxis and instruction on daily oral and denture hygiene regimes for a 6-week intervention period. Data on the Quigley and Hein modified plaque index (QHI), respectively, the Denture Hygiene Index (DHI), visual acuity, manual dexterity and handgrip strength in non-frail participants (≥ 65 years) were collected. Recruitment was done within the clinic's patient clientele and within the staff (control cohort). Women showed significantly better manual dexterity than men (Mann-Whitney U, p = .01), while women's mean handgrip strength was significantly lower (Mann-Whitney U, p < .01). Manual dexterity (Mann-Whitney U, p = .003) and handgrip strength (Mann-Whitney U, p = .052) were associated with age. However, visual acuity, manual dexterity and handgrip strength had no influence on oral or denture hygiene. Visual acuity, manual dexterity and handgrip strength have no influence on oral and denture hygiene ability in older non-frail people. Further studies should investigate whether these factors also have no influence on oral and denture hygiene in vulnerable older patients. Therefore, an assessment tool for the evaluation of potential influencing factors of oral and denture hygiene is proposed in a dental context. This Gerostomatological Assessment Battery (G-AB) can be used as a helpful tool to check the individual cognitive function and comprehension, dental therapy approaches and their individual adaption.

Longitudinal characteristics of physical frailty and its components in men and women post hip fracture.

Frailty is an important geriatric syndrome predicting adverse health outcomes in older adults. However, the longitudinal characteristics of frailty components in post-hip fracture patients are less understood. Adopting the Fried frailty definition, we examined the longitudinal trends and sex trajectory differences in frailty and its components over 1 year post-fracture. Three hundred and twenty-seven hip fracture patients (162 men and 165 women with mean age 80.1 and 81.5) from Baltimore Hip Studies 7th cohort with measurements at 22 days after admission, and months 2, 6, and 12 post-fracture were analyzed. Frailty components included: grip strength, gait speed, weight, total energy expenditure, and exhaustion. Longitudinal analysis used mixed effect models. At baseline, men were sicker with worse cognitive status, and had higher weight and grip strength, but lower total energy expenditure than women (p < 0.001). The prevalence of frailty was 31.5%, 30.2%, and 28.2% at months 2, 6, and 12 respectively, showing no longitudinal trends or sex differences. However, its components showed substantial recovery trends over the post-fracture year after confounding adjustments, including increasing gait speed, reducing risk of exhaustion, and stabilized weight loss and energy expenditure over time. Particularly, while men's grip strength tended to remain stable over first year post surgery within patients, women's grip strength reduced significantly over time within patients. On average over time within patients, women were more active with higher energy expenditures but lower grip strength and weight than men. Significant recovery trends and sex differences were observed in frailty components during first year post-fracture. Overall frailty status did not show those trends over months 2-12 since a summary measure might obscure changes in components. Therefore, frailty components provided important multi-dimensional information on the complex recovery process of patients, indicating targets for intervention beyond the global binary measure of frailty.

Men must provide family support to their wives and children, thus requiring them to actively try and work to meet the household's needs. In some religious literature, it is stated that men are the backbone of the family, while women are created from crooked ribs. On the other hand, the persistence of women in their careers and businesses can be seen, especially in several areas in South Kalimantan. This research will focus on three areas, namely Banjarmasin, Martapura and Bati-bati. The Banjar community in that location has its characteristics from the perspective of the female workers. In Banjarmasin, there are women Gojek Online; in Martapura, there are women "Kelelepon" sellers; and in Bati-bati, there are women farmers. This study aims to understand the concept of dual roles for women, namely as workers and educators, explore their motivations in working and understand the attitude of society towards them, among who like and dislike their work and seek comparative solutions to various "gender" issues that develop among the Banjar community. This research is a field research with an anthropological approach.
