Information Technology Governance Using the COBIT 2019 Framework at PT. Pelindo TPK Bitung

The governance of information technology (IT) is crucial for companies in managing their IT assets. This research investigates the implementation of COBIT 2019 at PT. Pelindo TPK Bitung, a logistics and storage company, aiming to enhance its Information Technology (IT) governance. Facing challenges in IT management, the company adopted COBIT 2019 to improve operational efficiency, reduce security risks, and ensure regulatory compliance. The study employs a structured approach, utilizing the COBIT 2019 Design Toolkit, and includes a literature review, interviews, and systematic evaluations of PT. Pelindo TPK Bitung's IT governance. Findings from the first interview highlight the company's focus on growth, innovation, and strategic IT roles, alongside challenges in integrating IT and operations. The prioritized governance objective, DSS05 - Managed Security Services, achieves a capability level 3, indicating substantial success, though gaps in security aspects necessitate prompt policy reviews. In conclusion, PT. Pelindo TPK Bitung's COBIT 2019 implementation has achieved significant success, reaching a capability level 3, with suggestions provided for sustaining and enhancing security management. Strategic knowledge, IT capabilities and innovation ambidexterity: role of business process performance

PurposeThe research aims to identify the impacts of strategic knowledge (SK) and information technology capabilities (ITC) on innovation ambidexterity (IAM) through business process performance (BPP).Design/methodology/approachThe research framework is developed based on the theoretical grounding of resource orchestration (RO) (SK and ITC) impacts on IAM. The structural equation modeling (SEM) technique was used to test the research framework on a sample of 441 responses from Brazilian firms.FindingsThe results suggest that SK and ITC facilitate BPP, resulting in IAM. The findings also suggested differences in path coefficients in the SK and ITC of the business value generation process framework under environmental turbulence (ET). Finally, a strong SK of ITC is especially important in enabling BPP and IAM in large firms. Another case of most manufacturing and service firms demonstrated that both SK and ITC are essential to impacting IAM through BPP mediation.Practical implicationsThe findings provide insight into how professionals can think and plan carefully to align SK and ITC for achieving balanced innovation and improving BPP in the dynamic business environment.Originality/valueThe study establishes a relationship between SK, ITC, BPP and IAM. The study developed novel constructs of SK and ITC and tested them, which gives new insight and links among the constructs.

Wealth effects of firm's strategic technology investments: evidence from Ethereum blockchain

PurposeEthereum-based blockchain technology (EBT) affords members of the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance (EEA) a market advantage in deploying blockchain within their organizations, including cybersecurity and operational benefits, that leads firms to strategically invest in this nascent technology. However, the impact of such strategic investments in EBT has yet to be explored in the context of its relationship to firm value. Therefore, this study explores EBT-specific firm-level characteristics that result in a stock market reaction to announcements of strategic investments.Design/methodology/approachThe authors use the event study methodology, strategic investment literature and signaling theory as contextualizing frameworks for their study. Additionally, the authors explore a new method for examining technology investments as a strategic counter to cybersecurity threats.FindingsFirms that signal to the market their strong commitment to their strategic investment by developing an EBT proof of concept see significantly higher market returns. Firms that have had prior cybersecurity incidents are rewarded by the market for strategically investing in EBT, and when firms with large undistributed free cash flows utilize this cash for strategic EBT investment, the market is more likely to reward these firms, indicating the market views EBT investment positively in these circumstances.Originality/valueThe results of this study provide new evidence of the value impact of EBT for firms that suffered cybersecurity events in the past. The authors provide empirical evidence of firm-level characteristics that investors use to discern whether a strategic investment in EBT will drive organizational value. Likewise, the authors demonstrate how signaling affects investor perceptions of strategic information technology (IT) investments in EBT.

Covid-19 and the South African pharmaceutical supply chain

This research aimed to identify the key drivers of the pharmaceutical supply chain during the COVID-19 pandemic disruption, focusing on the South African pharmaceutical industry. The study aimed to unveil the dynamic strategies and challenges experienced during the pandemic and suggest recommendations for resilient supply chain operations. The study drew on established supply chain management theories and integrated them with the unique and novel circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic. It mainly referred to theories regarding pricing, strategic sourcing, ICT usage, product availability, and logistics management contextualised within the pharmaceutical industry. An exploratory research approach was adopted to uncover the five overarching themes that function as pharmaceutical supply chain drivers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Semi-structured interviews were used to acquire the primary data with industry supply chain professionals, supplemented with secondary data from industry reports and relevant literature. The findings revealed that the pricing of medications, strategic sourcing decisions, information and communication technology, the availability of pharmaceutical products, and logistics management played critical roles in the pharmaceutical industry's supply chain during the COVID-19 pandemic. Disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic led to challenges such as price hikes, supply shortages, and logistical complications. The study provides crucial insights into managing supply chain disruptions amid a global health crisis. Implementing dynamic pricing mechanisms, developing resilient sourcing strategies, using ICT effectively, improving inventory management, and enhancing logistics management are recommended for robust supply chain operations. The findings contribute to academia by enriching the existing body of knowledge and offering practical solutions for industry supply chain professionals. The research is original and timely, offering a unique perspective on the South African pharmaceutical industry's supply chain during an unprecedented global health crisis. The results are valuable for academia and industry, shedding light on the adaptive strategies, challenges encountered, and lessons learned from navigating the pharmaceutical supply chain during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With a two-pronged approach, the goal is to nurture balanced and competent graduates while ensuring that every asnaf graduates have the opportunity to live a successful life, escape poverty, and enable to pay zakat. Higher Education Institutions (HEI) must deal with the evolving educational paradigm brought on by Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and the post-pandemic challenges. This paper proposes a strategic Information Technology (IT) project of GEIP in nurturing balanced graduates including the B40 and asnaf group, who can sustain relevancy and grow their capacity to deal with the post-pandemic and digital era.

Tools for Implementing Strategies in the Context of Digital Transformation of Industrial Enterprises

Under conditions of uncertainty caused by sanctions and geopolitical changes, the correct choice of both strategic development priorities and management tools for their implementation becomes important. Given the global trend towards digitalization and the growing supply from software developers, it is necessary to understand clearly, which software products and for what purposes can be used effectively at specific enterprises. The challenge here is that due to instability, sanctions pressure, and withdrawals of foreign software from the Russian market, enterprises are forced to change business and technological processes, and to look for new tools for implementing development strategies. The purpose of the article is to determine the basic principles for choosing strategic management tools and information technologies as elements of strategic management at enterprises in the context of digital transformation. The article shows that due to the ongoing digitalization of industrial enterprises any tools for implementing the strategies must be considered within the framework of an automated process management model. It can be based on various information technologies or platform solutions, depending on the coverage of enterprise business processes, and the readiness to adopt digital technologies in strategic and operational management. The modern trend is to implement strategic development directions, relying on the internal ecosystem of the enterprise. Making the right choice of information technology within an enterprise ecosystem requires that technology investments are aligned with the company’s business goals, adaptable to changing needs, can integrate with existing systems, are user-friendly, secure, and provide a short-term return on investment. Ultimately, these principles enable businesses to successfully navigate the digital transformation journey and leverage technology as a strategic enabler for sustainable growth.

Strategic positioning and is it a useful construct in improving performance of microfinance institutions in Kenya

This paper aims to examine the effect of strategic leadership, resource allocation, information technology, customer focus, and differentiation on the performance of microfinance institutions in Nairobi City County. The study was founded on a resource-based view, dynamic capability and life-cycle theories. A target of 300 employees was targeted from which a sample of 172 research participants was recruited. The sample was selected through a combination of both stratified and sampling techniques. Questionnaires were used for primary data collection. Analysis used both descriptive and multiple regression analyses. The findings of the study indicated the urgency for microfinance organizations to adopt growth strategies that encompass innovative digital advancements, the introduction of novel products, innovation-focused strategies, and the digitization of services. The findings further highlighted the pivotal roles played by strategic positioning, strategic leadership, information technology integration, and differentiation in significantly shaping microfinance institutions’ performance. The findings also indicated that a unit enhancement of strategic positioning indicator had a significant enhancement on their individual performance. However, the effect of customer focus and resource allocation did not exhibit the same level of significance. The study recommended the reinforcement of strategic positioning, optimized resource allocation, embracing technological integration, and an unwavering focus on customer needs. The study recommended the exploration of diverse leadership styles, resource allocation strategies, and the undertaking of comparative analyses to draw insights into the effects of these factors on microfinance institutions.

Digital Technology in Hospital Administration: A Strategic Choice.

Digital technology has encompassed all aspects of healthcare. There are many international and national organizations, guidelines, and formats available in health information systems (HIS), but many are presently still not being used in India. The aim is to give a flawless, secure, and user-friendly health information technology (IT) system for Indian healthcare. We discuss the timeline of digital technology in hospital administration, administrative applications, and the importance of clinical quality in health. Clinical perspectives of clinical information systems (CIS), both in acute as well as chronic clinical care models. Cross-integration of healthcare in IT (HIT) in electronic health records (EHR) or electronic medical records (EMRs), in chronic disease management (CDM) systems, and in clinical decision support systems (CDSS) are elaborated. Also, practical strategic application methods are discussed. The limitations of the current HIS software in India are mostly used for transaction reporting, prescription, and administrative tools. They lack CIS and strategic business applications as compared to mature multinational company (MNC) HIS software. Along with this, various features and levels of HIS Software, challenges of HIT adoption, Indian health IT standards, and the future framework of IT in health in India are systematically analyzed. We aim at all physicians in India and at all levels of practice, from individuals, group practices, health institutes, or corporate hospitals, and to encourage them to make strategic use of CIS and strategic IT applications in their individual practice and hospital management. This will improve clinical outcomes, patient safety, practitioner performance, adherence to treatment guidelines, and reduction in medical errors, along with efficiency improvements and cost reductions. The influence of information technology (IT) on firm profitability and stock returns

This research study examines the impact of information technology on firm profitability and stock returns. Using a comprehensive dataset of firms across various industries, this research employs rigorous statistical analysis techniques to investigate the relationship between IT investments, firm profitability metrics, and stock returns. The study focuses at how IT investments affect financial performance measures including return on assets (ROA) and return on equity (ROE), with P-values of 0.34 and 0.12, respectively. Furthermore, the study investigates the influence of IT on stock returns, taking into account market capitalization, industry trends, and macroeconomic variables. This study's conclusions center on the beneficial association between IT investments and corporate profitability. The T-value for the IT investment has risen to 6.5. The analysis reveals that firms that strategically leverage IT investments tend to experience higher profitability metrics. Additionally, the research demonstrates the impact of IT on stock returns, highlighting the significance of IT as a driver of firm value and investor confidence. Moreover, this study delves into the mechanisms through which IT investments contribute to firm profitability and stock returns. It investigates the mediating role of factors such as process innovation, customer relationship management, and supply chain optimization, which facilitate the translation of IT investments into improved financial performance. The implications of this research are significant for both practitioners and policymakers. The findings provide valuable insights for firms seeking to enhance their profitability and create shareholder value through strategic IT investments. Additionally, policymakers can use these findings to formulate policies and initiatives that promote the adoption and effective utilization of IT in businesses across various sectors

Information Technology Strategy for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises in the Era of Industry 4.0

During the industrial revolution 4.0, business and industry competitiveness expanded. Because of circumstances like these, competition between firms or micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) is also increasing. To create and maintain a competitive advantage, a business must be able to dominate the market by enhancing its strategy. The ability of companies to expand market segments by introducing distribution channels and innovations by employing technical advancements is one of the company's development tactics. To identify potential and difficulties for further study, this article aims to evaluate information technology solutions for empowering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises. The Biblioshiny tool was used to conduct the literature review for this article. Results Scientific publications investigate opportunities and obstacles to determine the function that strategic information technology supports in the case study of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises.

Perspectives to Strengthening Competencies of Judges in The Supreme Court of The Republic of Indonesia

Judges as court apparatus, play a pivotal role in improving organizational performance and enhancing public trust. They are the sole actor who determines the quality of court decisions. However, the cases in the four courts, namely general, religious, state administrative and military courts seemed to outnumber the judges; hence retaining highly skilled judges to rule and write decisions within the time frame is paramount. Using a stakeholder theory approach, this article explores the competency-based development model for judges carried out by the technical training centre of the Indonesian Supreme Court. The research method was descriptive qualitative, purposive sampling for in-depth interviews. The result revealed that each stakeholder, namely technical training managers, supporting lecturers or trainers, working unit, and the public, showed different perspectives on judges' competencies, knowledge, skills, and attitude due to different interests. Stakeholders' views highlighted several points: analytical thinking skill improvement, knowledge application, character building, adaptive skills development and reassignment. This study, therefore, provides a new model of judges' competencies development that emphasizes a throughout human resources management activity application, starting from carrying out apparatus management strategy as a response to bureaucracy reform, strategic environmental changes, and science and information technology development; applying human resources development strategy with stakeholder participation approach through training and development centre; and creating apparatus reassignment strategy. These three strategies lead to an agile civil apparatus to achieve good governance.

The Relation Among Business Process Orientation Practices in Influencing Organizational Performance

Organizations always look for ways to improve their performance to survive in the business environment. One way to improve organizational performance is to improve business process orientation (BPO). Several studies identified practices that can be implemented and significantly impact an organization’s BPO maturity. These practices are called Critical Practices (CPs) strategic view, process definition and documentation, process measurement and management, organizational process structure, people management, process organizational culture, market orientation, supplier view, and information technology. However, most studies treat CPs independently, and the relationship between CPs and between CPs with organizational performance has not been addressed. This study tests and confirms the relationship between CPs, BPO, and organizational performance. Based on the literature, a structural model of the relationship between CPs and organizational performance is developed. An online questionnaire is designed to collect data from various organizations in Indonesia. The survey results are analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to investigate the relationship between variables. Most hypothesized relationships between CPs are confirmed except the relationship between supplier practices (SU) and culture (CT), which are not supported. Not all practices affect organizational performance directly, but they must be mediated by other practices to have a significant effect. The results suggest that to improve organizational performance, an organization needs to improve the practice of strategic view (SV), performance measurement (PM), customer (CU), process definition (PD), and information technology (IT).

Blood and Water: Information Technology Investment and Control in Family-owned Businesses

ABSTRACT Family-owned businesses differ in their strategic intent and behavior as they serve as a reservoir of wealth and social status for their family owners. Family-owned businesses demonstrate relatively conservative strategic decision making that aspires long-term wealth preservation and enhancement. For family owners, investments in information technology (IT) raise a predicament as they are risky, yet a long-term imperative. We propose three hypotheses that build upon the thesis that family owners combine a deep understanding of the business with a strong influence on stakeholders within and beyond the firm’s boundaries to exert strategic control in the extended enterprise. First, family ownership negatively influences IT investment, because family owners are likely to avoid investments in IT that are frivolous, reduce information asymmetry, or leave auditable digital trails. Second, the negative influence of family ownership on IT investment is weakened when a career professional is appointed in the senior-most executive position of a family-owned business. This is because professional executives strive to utilize IT for control and performance benefits, and family owners desire to use IT to monitor and control the non-family professional executive. Third, family ownership weakens the negative influence of environmental hostility on the relationship between IT investment and firm performance, as family-owned businesses incur less dynamic adjustment costs and maintain better alignment between IT and business strategy. Empirical analysis, consisting of panel regression estimations, on archival data of publicly listed Indian firms in the years 2006 to 2018 provides support for our theory that highlights how IT for control acts as a noneconomic motivation for the strategic IT behavior of firms. In doing so, we bring family ownership into the theoretical foreground for future IS scholarship. We contribute to theory and practice by advancing the nature of ownership and executive management as sources of heterogeneity in IT investment and its business value.

The Influence of Strategic Human Resources Competencies and Information Technology on Organizational Performance Mediated by Knowledge Management at the TNI Satkomlek in Support Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces

The purpose of this study was to examine the direct effect of Strategic Human Resources Competencies and Information Technology on Organizational Performance and the direct influence of Knowledge Management on Organizational Performance and the indirect effect of Strategic Human Resources Competencies and Information Technology on Organizational Performance mediated by Knowledge Management. The model used in this study is to test the hypothesis by using the method of the Structural Equation Model (SEM). The software used for structural analysis is LISREL 8.80. Data were collected from a sample of 210 respondents who were deemed sufficient to represent the population. In taking the sample used a survey technique that is the entire population is used as a research sample. The findings of this study are that there is a direct influence of Strategic Human Resources Competencies and Information Technology on Organizational Performance and a direct influence of Knowledge Management on Organizational Performance and an indirect influence of Strategic Human Resources Competencies and Information Technology on Organizational Performance mediated by Knowledge Management. Of the seven hypotheses proposed, all of them proved to have a direct or indirect effect through the mediating variable. Knowledge Management as a mediating variable functions effectively to increase the influence of Strategic Human Resources Competencies and Information Technology on Organizational Performance. The implication of the results of this study is that there is a positive and significant influence of Strategic Human Resources Competencies and Information Technology on Knowledge Management and has implications for increasing Organizational Performance.

The Influence Of Strategic Management Accounting And Information Technology Capability On Company Performance With Sustainable Competitive Advantage As The Mediator

This study analyzes the influence of strategic management accounting and information technology capability on company performance and examines sustainable competitive advantage that can mediate the effect of strategic management accounting and information technology capability on company performance. The population of this study was companies from raw materials, industry, primary and non-primary consumer goods, and health sectors in Indonesia. Meanwhile, the research respondents were the employees of these companies. To collect the respondents’ responses, we employed the survey method. The employees’ responses from the same company were averagely calculated to be one value; therefore, one value stands for one company. This study employed 203 relevant companies so that it employed a structural equation model based on covariance. The hypothesis examination has revealed that strategic management accounting has a positive effect on sustainable competitive advantage. Sustainable competitive advantage has a positive effect on company performance. In contrast, strategic management accounting and information technology capability do not affect company performance. Information technology capability has no effect on sustainable competitive advantage. Sustainable competitive advantage can mediate the influence of strategic management accounting on company performance. Sustainable competitive advantage cannot mediate the effect of information technology capability on company performance.Finally, the application of strategic management accounting enables companies to achieve sustainable competitive advantage and ultimately improve company performance.

Organizational Conditions associated with the sharing of Tacit and Explicit Knowledge in the financial sector in Colombia

Knowledge sharing is understood as the social interaction through which individuals exchange their tacit and explicit knowledge with others. Tacit knowledge is difficult to formalize, transfer and communicate to other individuals, and it is a result of experience, talent, and reflections of individuals. Conversely, explicit knowledge is formalized, codified, and easier to transmit. The focus of this study was on four organizational conditions associated with knowledge sharing: culture, training, strategic clarity, and information technology support. Although the relationship between organizational conditions and knowledge sharing has been investigated, there are few studies about whether organizational conditions impact tacit and explicit knowledge sharing differently. In this research, 270 participants were surveyed, belonging to companies in the financial sector in Colombia. It was found that explicit knowledge had a significant positive relationship with strategic clarity, organizational culture, training, and information technology support. On the other hand, tacit knowledge correlated significantly only with organizational culture, and it was not related to strategic clarity, training, and information technology support. Additional research on information and communication technologies that facilitate the sharing of tacit knowledge is recommended, as well as exploration of other types of administrative support besides technology. Studies are also suggested on which elements of the strategy can be considered explicit and which are tacit, and the mechanisms to facilitate their successful sharing.

The PO1 IT Process Governance audit based on the COBIT standard, namely “Define a Strategic Information Technology Plan” then became a strategic issue for the success of higher education management, especially the SIAK Polytechnic campus which uses information technology-based tools in its teaching and learning process. This study aims to measure the level of IT Process PO-01 governance in relation to Academic Information Systems in Vocational Model High Schools (Polytechnics). The sample of this research is nine Vocational High Schools (Polytechnics) in Bandung. From the results of the study, it is known that the IT Process Governance PO-01 at SIAk Vocational Colleges is still at Level 2, namely "Repeatable but Intuitive". The effectiveness of governance is still determined by the competence of the individual or part of the personnel who carry out the IT Function (technical) and the assignment is ad-hoc. IT management at SIAk has not been internalized and refers to Best Practice. But on the other hand, it has begun to be seen that the Polytechnic management has a fairly good awareness of the importance of IT Governance and wants to make it an enabler for the Academic Information System (SIAk). However, there is still a fairly high gap between what is and what should be desired as in COBIT Best Practice.
