Evaluating the Effectiveness of Intensive English Course in Islamic Higher Education

In the English Education department of the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Kediri, there is a course so-called an Intensive English Course (IEC) program offered at the first semester. This course is designed as a preparatory program to prepare the students who come from various English proficiency backgrounds. This research is intended to evaluate the effectiveness of the IEC program. Employing a mixed-method approach, interviews, questionnaires, pre-test and post-test were administered to four Intensive English Course lecturers and 126 students. The findings of this study revealed that the program is effective as it is able to improve students’ performance, and the course material, teaching methods, and assessment conducted are appropriate. The interesting point to note is that, despite the fact that everything is well-prepared and the program has the potential to significantly improve the students' abilities, the improvement is still below par.

Perception of College Students in Papua Province on Plagiarism

Plagiarism is serious misconduct for all of the academicians in the world, including Papua, Indonesia. This paper aims at exploring the Papuan students’ perceptions on plagiarism. This paper focused on the students’ knowledge on plagiarism, the students ‘experience in plagiarism, and the strategy to avoid plagiarism. This paper employed a descriptive qualitative design investigating the students’ perception of plagiarism in Fattahul Muluk State Islamic Institute of Papua. The participants of this study were purposively selected from two faculties. There were seven students of the Faculty of Tarbiyah and seven Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business students, and the data were analyzed using discourse analysis. The results revealed that Papuan students’ perception on plagiarism due to three parts; 1) the students knew plagiarism as an act of copyright infringement, plagiarism is a crucial action, plagiarism is the act of copy-paste, plagiarism is an act that causes writers difficulty in developing their writing potential, and plagiarism is an act of theft, 2) The Plagiarism occurred when the students doing an assignment, they have lack understanding about the assignment’s instruction, sometimes reference sources are difficult to access, and the students pressed by the deadline for submission, and 3) The students avoid plagiarism through paraphrase then cite the sources, and used software like Mendeley and plagiarism checker. However, further investigation is necessary to examine the relative contribution of Papuan students ‘perceptions on plagiarism practice.

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF MIND MAPPING TECHNIQUE BY USING WEBLOG IN IMPROVING STUDENTS’ ISLAMIC WRITING: ACHIEVEMENT AND INSIGHT

The goals of this study were to learn about students' perspectives on literature and blogs for teaching Islamic values to the millennial generation. This research was mixed-methods research. The subject of this study was the millennial generation at the Islamic State Institute Curup, especially students of the English Tadris Study Program. The instruments were questionnaires and interviews. This study included 30 students as participants. The findings of the poll reveal that most students have a favourable view of the use of the mind-mapping approach by utilising weblogs to improve Islamic writing. The implementation of the mind-mapping technique by using a weblog to improve Islamic writing makes students more active and interested in learning Islamic topics. Students also understand more about some Islamic topics that they read or upload to their web blogs. Students are interested in learning more about Islam by using this media. They read more topics about Islam and give their opinions about those in their Islamic literature web blog. It may be stated that a blog can be used as a form of social media and is effective and positive for teaching Islamic values to students.

BOOK REVIEW: ENGLISH CURRICULUM AND MATERIAL DEVELOPMENT

This textbook, entitled "English Curriculum and Material Development," covers a variety of subjects in 11 Chapters. It is good for educational practitioners who are always in touch with the curriculum and syllabus. This book was written by a lecturer at the Ponorogo State Islamic Institute named Pryla Rochmawati. It consists of 4 main parts, namely Curriculum and Syllabus, Component of Curriculum, Curriculum in Indonesian Context, and Material Development. However, here I will briefly explain one by one the chapters contained in this book. Chapter 1 discusses the concept of curriculum and syllabus, including its definitions, the difference, kinds of the syllabus, and its importance in language teaching. Chapter 2 examines a component of the curriculum called Need Analysis. It discusses the definition, purpose, and targets, as well as the steps and techniques for doing a need analysis. Chapter 3 is concerned with the conceptualization of aims, goals, and objectives. Chapter 4 discusses Assessment and Testing, emphasizing the how and why of assessment and testing. Chapter 5 covers materials as a component of the curriculum. This section discusses the basis for material design, the material blueprint, and the origins of materials. Chapter 6 focuses on the teaching concept, which encompasses the roles of institutions, teachers, the teaching and learning process, and the application of curriculum through lesson plans. Chapter 7 examined the concept of evaluation. It discusses the approaches, purpose, and procedures used in conducting curriculum evaluation. Chapter 8 discusses the curriculum and syllabus in the Indonesian context. Chapter 9 discusses the SMA/MA English curriculum, including the syllabus and lesson plans for this grade. Chapter 10 focuses on the SMP/MTs level curriculum, including the syllabus and lesson plans for this grade. Finally, Chapter 11 examines the concept of material development in English language teaching. This textbook is intended to augment the teaching and learning processes in the English Curriculum and Material Development course, as well as to encourage students to be active and motivated learners.

The Discursive Construction of Strategies for Implementing Anti-Corruption Education at State Islamic Higher Educational Institutions

Corruption is so pervasive in the Republic of Indonesia that it has becomea rampant conundrum in various economic, social, educational, and even religious sectors. Using discursive analysis as the research methodology with the Foucauldian paradigm, this paper aimed at identifying and describing the strategies used in the discursive construction of the implementation of anti-corruption education (Pendidikan Antikorupsi, PAK) by three State Islamic Higher Educational Institutions (Perguruan Tinggi Keagamaan Islam Negeri, PTKINs) in Aceh. Given fairness of the geographical location, Ar-Raniry State Islamic University, Lhokseumawe State Islamic Institute and Teungku Dirundeng State Islamic College were selected as the research sites. The data were collected by interviewing the leaders of three PTKINs—rectors, deans, and heads of departments—through questionnaires and focus group discussions with lecturers. The findings indicate that the three PTKINs generally have strategies for implementing PAK; separate subjects, incorporating the PAK curriculum into related subjects, such as fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), and state resilience. PAK is also integrated into students' activities that take place on campus. Both internal and external factors, such as overloaded subjects in the departments and insufficient support from the community, hamper PAK at the PTKINs.

Use Of Zoom Meeting Applications to Memorize the Qur’an Online

Memorizing the Qur’an is something that is recommended for Muslims, because the Qur’an is a way of life for Muslims, as time goes on, new innovations emerge to make it easier for Muslims to memorize the Qur’an. Various facilities are used to memorize the Qur’an, one of which is the Zoom meeting application. During the pandemic, which required students, especially State College for Islamic Studies Batusangkar, to study remotely. One of the media used is the Zoom meeting application, especially in the Tahfizh Al-Qur’an course. The purpose of this study is to describe the use of the Zoom meeting application to memorize the Qur’an online. This research was conducted on students of the Batusangkar State Islamic Institute. The research method is using qualitative methods with data collection methods, namely by observation and interviews. The results of this study are using the Zoom meeting application to memorize the Qur’an online is very useful as a learning medium for students / lecturers in memorizing the Qur’an in the Tahfizh Al-Qur’an course with the guidance of Ustad or Ustadzah or lecturers Tahfizh course supervisor with a distance learning system (online).

Measuring The Success of E-Learning In Universities Using The Technology Acceptance Model

This study aims to determine the factors of acceptance of e-learning technology in students who use the technology acceptance model, namely perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PEOU), an attitude of acceptance of use (ATU), and acceptance (IT) of the e-learning acceptance system. The population in this study were students of state Islamic religious institutes who had participated in the e-learning system. The respondents of this study were students of the Ambon State Islamic Institute of Religion, which collected 30 respondents. The method used in this study uses the technology acceptance model method in the process of data processing using quantitative analysis techniques in the process of analyzing data from research results. The analysis results show that the acceptance of e-learning technology by students of the Islamic Institute of Religion is very well received by users of the Ambon State Islamic Institute of Religion students. The study's results showed that the variable utilization percentage of 76.66% was stated to agree strongly. In comparison, the percentage of 61.66% agreed. Attitudes towards users 70.66% agreed. The study's results show that students in the learning process can accept using e-learning systems.

EVALUASI PELAKSANAAN AKADEMIK FAKULTAS USHULUDDIN ADAB DAN HUMANIORA, INSTITUT AGAMA ISLAM NEGERI PURWOKERTO 2015-2020

This study aims to reveal the process of academic implementation, achievements and not yet achieved and strategies for achieving and following up on academic implementation at the Faculty of Ushuluddin Adab and Humanities, State Islamic Institute of Purwokerto 2015-2020. The approach used in this research is a qualitative approach. Data collection and data verification were carried out with FGDs from leaders, lecturers, and education staff. The results of this study reveal that academic implementation at the Faculty of Ushuluddin Adab and Humanities, State Islamic Institute of Purwokerto 2015-2020 has been carried out based on curriculum revisions that refer to the determination of graduate profiles, learning outcomes, determination of study materials, determination of courses, and curriculum preparation. To support the learning system, a semester learning plan (RPS) is prepared.

Developing Islamic Education and Local Culture Textbooks

This study aimed to determine the need for Islamic education courses and local culture at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training IAIN Palopo and to determine the prototype, validity, practicality, and effectiveness of teaching materials for Islamic education and local culture based on the integrative-interconnective paradigm at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training IAIN Palopo. The type of research used was development research. The research was conducted at the Palopo State Islamic Institute in the 2020/2021 academic year. This study concludes that a textbook that can integrate Islamic education and local culture is needed, consisting of 7 chapters, 28 subchapters, and 28 materials; textbooks are very valid, practical, and effective to be used as teaching materials for Islamic education courses local culture.

Implementation of Sharia Audit: Perception of Sharia Accounting Students

This study aims to explore how students’ perceptions of the application of sharia audits are seen from the issues of the sharia audit framework, the scope of sharia audits, sharia auditor qualifications, and the independence of sharia auditors. The research used survey study methods to obtain qualitative and quantitative data through a descriptive approach, and the data sources were primary data. The population and sample in this study were the 32 Sharia Accounting Students from the Faculty of Islamic Economic and Business, Islamic State Institute of Pekalongan, who took Auditing Concentration (Class of 2018), the data collection method used was a questionnaire. The results of the study concluded that: (1) sharia accounting students have a positive perception of sharia audits viewed from the aspect of the sharia audit framework; (2) students have a positive perception of relating to the perception of sharia audit seen from the aspect of the scope of sharia audits; (3) sharia accounting student have a positive perception of sharia audits viewed from the aspect of sharia auditor qualifications; (4) sharia accounting students have a very positive perception of sharia audits seen from the aspect of sharia auditor independence. Sharia accounting students have a positive perception of sharia auditing from the aspects of the sharia audit framework, the scope of sharia auditing, and the qualifications of sharia auditors, as well as very positive perceptions of the aspects of the independence of sharia auditors.

ANALISIS DIFERENSIASI: PERSEPSI KEADILAN ORGANISASI PADA DOSEN INSTITUT AGAMA ISLAM NEGERI TAKENGON

Perceptions of organizational justice are often justified in different ways by each lecturer from all higher education institutions, especially at the Takengon State Islamic Institute. This study will examine the level of differentiation in the perception of organizational justice based on the demographic characteristics of the lecturers of the Takengon State Islamic Institute. The population in this study amounted to 141 with a sample of 59 lecturers whose sampling technique used simple random sampling. The research approach used is quantitative with non-parametric statistical analysis methods. Based on the results of the study, it can be found a level of differentiation of organizational justice based on the predictor of gender with a significance value of 0.034. Meanwhile, the predictors of demographic characteristics of age, tenure, position status, education level, and employment status did not have a significant level of differentiation with values ​​of 0.408, 0.432, 0.468, 0.331, and 0.791. It can be concluded that the predictor of gender has a significant level of differentiation from the perception of organizational justice of the lecturers of the Takengon State Islamic Institute.

Higher Order Thinking Skills of Mathematics Education Students at State Islamic Higher Education in Central Sumatera

The Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) are some of the various competencies that prospective mathematics teachers must have in facing the challenges of the 21st century. This study aims to map the high-order thinking skills of Mathematics Education students at State Islamic Religious Higher Education (PTKIN) in Central Sumatera. This research is a descriptive quantitative study involving 310 Mathematics Education students at State Islamic University of (UIN) Imam Bonjol Padang, State Islamic Institute of (IAIN) Batusangkar, IAIN Bukittinggi, UIN Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau, UIN Sultan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi, and IAIN Kerinci. Data was collected through the Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) test. The results showed that the average of high-order thinking skills of Tadris Mathematics students at PTKIN in Central Sumatera was relatively low. The results of this study reflect the readiness of prospective mathematics teacher students at PTKIN in welcoming the 21st century. The researchers recommend selecting appropriate learning methods to improve students' higher-order thinking skills and increase HOTS content in various courses.

Flipped Learning: Asynchronous and Synchronous Models in Online Class to Improve the Learning Outcomes

Flipped learning is a strategy for assisting the online learning process. This study attempts to adopt it in an online class using a quasi-experimental design with a post-test-only control to examine its effects on student learning outcomes. Data was obtained from reading tests administered to students enrolled in the fifth semester of the English Education Department at IAIN (State Islamic Institute) of Palopo. This study discovered at least three findings suggesting that flipped learning improves student learning outcomes significantly. First, students' mean score in the experimental class is higher (x = 70.11) than in the control class (x = 58.70). Second, the significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) is 0.000<0.05, indicating a significant effect of the experimental class implementation of flipped learning. Third, the effect size is 1.106 with an influence percentage of 86 percent which categorized has a large effect based on Cohen’s criteria. The author proposes utilizing a flipped learning technique as a substitute for online learning in light of the findings.

Implementation of Reading Asmaul Husna

The general public tends to prioritize aspects of intellectual intelligence (IQ) over other aspects, such as spiritual intelligence (SQ). In higher education, this is reflected in the phenomenon among students who experience a lot of spiritual emptiness in studying. The education system that only teaches students in terms of academic aspects is not enough to fulfill intelligence for students. Therefore, this study aims to determine the implementation of Asmaul Husna reading in increasing the spiritual intelligence of students of the Faculty of Ushuluddin, Adab, and Da'wah (FUAD), State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Pekalongan. This type of research is field research. The method of data collection was carried out using the method of observation, interviews, filling out questionnaires, and documentation. The data that has been obtained is then analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative descriptive methods. The results showed that the reading of Asmaul Husna at FUAD had a positive influence on the spiritual intelligence of students. In general, students were very enthusiastic about participating in the reading of Asmaul Husna. Research respondents who came from students obtained spiritual intelligence scores in the category range 148-246 referring to the assessment of Ary Ginanjar Agustian. The score is in the good/high category. Students implement Dhikr Asmaul Husna according to the stages in achieving the example of Dhikr Asmaul Husna, namely increasing ma’rifah through knowledge and piety; freeing oneself from the bondage of lust and lust, and purifying the soul by way of morals with the character of Allah Swt.

Independent and Learning Outcome in Online Learning

This study aims to determine and analyze the effect of Independence on Learning Outcomes in online learning during the Covid 19 pandemic. This research applies explanatory survey method. The object of this research is the State Islamic Institute (IAIN Kerinci). The sample in this study was all 6th semester Islamic Education Management Students, totaling 65 people. The results of the study showed that there was a correlation between independent learning and learning outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic with a moderate correlation. As for the level analysis for the variable of learning independence during the Covid 19 pandemic with the dimension of self-confidence being at a moderate level, the dimension of self-learning being at a moderate level, the dimension of mastering expertise in the field is at a moderate level, the dimension of respecting time is at a high level, and the dimension of respecting time is at a high level. responsibility is at the moderate level. Meanwhile, the level analysis for the learning outcome variables on the affective dimension is at a high level, the psychomotor dimension is at a moderate level and cognitive is also at a moderate level.

EFL Students’ Perceptions on Using Edmodo in Online Learning During Covid-19 Pandemic

Covid-19 pandemic has been spread out in the entire world in 2020. Many aspects of life get the impact directly. In education, there are several impacts that must be face toward the situation, one of them is about the implementation online class in this new era. From kindergarten until university have their own ways to provide an online class effectively. The research has aim to give the perceptions from EFL students’ on using Edmodo in Critical Discourse Analysis online class. The researcher will give their point of view about this case also. This research will conduct 31 EFL students’, especially in Critical Discourse Analysis class, point of view about online class during pandemic Covid-19, they are from seventh semester in State Islamic Institute of Kediri. The results of the research are expected to provide the data from students’ perceptions about online class and how should this be, in order to improve the online class implementation in the further.

Development of Self Esteem-Oriented Micro Teaching Materials for IAIN Palopo English Education Students

The purpose of this research is to produce teaching materials for Micro teaching subject based on Self Esteem to students of the English Education Study Program with dimensions of respect and self-respect, courage and ability in communication and confidence in one's own abilities. The elements in the module are tips and motivation, exercises/practices and summaries and formative tests in each chapter. The module was developed by taking into account the value of its validity, practicality and effectiveness. The approach used in the research is Research and Development research or development with the ADDIE development model. The trial was conducted on 5th semester students in the English Education study program, Palopo State Islamic Institute. The output in this research is a module for microteaching teaching and is published as an ISBN book by IKAPI member publishers.

The EFL Students Internal Factor Causing Critical Listening Anxiety at IAIN Palangka Raya

In learning, worry and anxiety are natural things experienced by humans. In the same vein, anxiety can be caused by obstacles in the process of learning to listen. This happens to students to master listening skills. Therefore, this study aims to determine the factors that influence students' listening anxiety in the Critical Listening class at the State Islamic Institute of Palangka Raya. To answer this question, the researcher used mixed methods. Participants in this study amounted to 51 participants. Researchers distributed questionnaires and conducted interviews with participants. Based on the findings, there are two factors that influence students' listening anxiety. The first factor was the tension and concern of English to listen to audio. The second factor was lack of confidence in listening to audio
