The standard GANIL data acquisition system

We report on the GANIL general data acquisition system based on VME crates distributed in several experimental areas, linked to a VAX cluster by optical fibers and Ethernet for control and storage. Acquisition buses are CAMAC, FERA and VXI. We present the system configuration, experiment description procedures and adaptation for VXI and remote controls for the 4/spl pi/ INDRA detector. DAPHNE...the Design of a Parallel Multiprocessor Data Acquisition System

The DAPHNE data acquisition system is designed to collect data at high rates from CAMAC instruments and to analyze the data on-line with multiple single-board computers using the National 32016 micoprocessor. It will be the standard data acquisition system used on all instruments at the Argonne Tandem-Linac Accelerator (ATLAS), a heavy ion accelerator. The system includes a programmable Event Handler to acquire the data from CAMAC instruments, Event Processors operating in parallel to analyze the data, an Event Distributor to supply the data to the parallel processors, and an intelligent Event Processor Interface to control the Event Processors and transfer data between the host computer and the Event Processors. Functional characteristics of each of these system components will be discussed and the design of the custom Event Distributor and intelligent Event Processor Interface will be described in detail.

Brookhaven FASTBUS/UNIBUS Interface

A typical high energy physics experiment requires both a high speed data acquisiton and processing system, for data collection and reduction; and a general purpose computer to handle further reduction, bookkeeping and mass storage. Broad differences in architecture, format or technology, will often exist between these two systems, and interface design can become a formidable task. The PDP-11 series minicomputer is widely used in physics research, and the Brookhaven FASTBUS is the only standard high speed data acquisition system which is fully implemented in a current high energy physics experiment. This paper will describe the design and operation of an interface between these two systems. The major issues are elucidated by a preliminary discussion on the basic principles of Bus Systems, and their application to Brookhaven FASTBUS and UNIBUS.

Data Acquistion for a High Energy Physics Experiment Using a Parallel/Serial CAMAC Driver

The FNAL standard data acquisition and analysis system, MULTI, has been modified for use with the Jorway parallel/serial CAMAC highway driver. Results are presented on data acquisition rates using the parallel/serial driver. Also presented is the design of an experimental data acquisition sytem incorporating the JY411 parallel/serial driver to control a typical high energy physics experiment.
