Abstract It was found that cracking occurred at the exciting beam of the vibrating screen produced by a mechanical equipment manufacturing Co., Ltd. In order to determine the reason for the cracking of the vibrating screen, the cracked vibrating screen samples were tested by appearance, physical and chemical properties, metallographic analysis, scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and energy spectrum analysis. The test analysis results show that the chemical composition analysis, tensile and flattening test results of the vibrating screen meet the requirements of GB/T 8163-2008 standard, the fillet weld at the vibrating screen exciting beam is not bevelled according to the requirements of the production design drawings. The main reason for the cracking of the vibrating screen is that the fillet weld cracking at the vibrating screen exciting beam originates from the welding defects in the weld, which accelerates the further expansion of the crack under the action of external vibration load, and finally leads to the complete cracking of the exciting beam weld.
