In 2023, there were fewer en banc decisions compared to 2022. While there were 7 en banc decisions related to criminal law in 2022, with 6 focusing on criminal law issues, the number decreased to 3 in 2023. However, the significance of this change should not be underestimated. Among these cases, a notable en banc decision redefined the meaning of assault and intimidation in the context of forcible molestation, representing an effort to align the legal decisions with contemporary societal trends.
 Additionally, there was a noticeable increase in en banc decisions related to stalking crimes and special criminal laws, shedding light on issues and challenges prevalent in these areas beyond basic criminal law. In the context of criminal law, there were numerous significant rulings pertaining to the co-perpetrators of negligent crimes and infringements on self-defense, specifically addressing the contemporaneity of self-defense (meaning not determined solely based on the formal completion of the criminal act but extending until the situation of harm to one's own or others' legal interests has ceased).
 In 2023, in terms of the legitimate exercise of the state's right to punish, there were many efforts to modify en banc decisions that extended beyond the literal interpretation of the law or to provide clarification on the meaning of legal provisions. While the ideal resolution for legal shortcomings would be through legislative measures, the impracticality of enacting legislation to address every situation necessitates the application of the law through judges' reasonable interpretation. Therefore, the positive aspect lies in not rendering outcome-oriented judgments based on the principle of proportionality. However, it is necessary to consider criticism that calls for clearer and more comprehensible improvements to the Supreme Court's en banc decisions, which currently restrict legal principles through their power of authoritative interpretation.
 Furthermore, it is noteworthy that many elements, which are not explicitly stipulated in the basic criminal law but are present in various special criminal laws, can be evaluated as serious crimes. To enhance the effectiveness of crime regulation and the general preventive impact, systematic legislative adjustments within the criminal law framework for these crime elements are essential.

How do the Swiss Spend their Time?

Time use statistics are widely documented in order to track societal trends. The most reliable and widely used collection method for time use data are diaries in which a person documents all activities participated in for a given period. This study uncovers daily time use patterns across the entire adult population of German-speaking Switzerland with such data. The findings are the first diary-based account of time use for the region and illuminate important differences between genders and based on parenthood status in terms of paid and unpaid work, as well as working from home.

Temporal trends and inequalities in school-related stress in three cohorts in compulsory school in Sweden

School stress is widespread among students’ worldwide, impacting academic success and mental health. Most research focuses on average stress levels but lacks insights into temporal trends and inequalities. Using repeated longitudinal survey data on 33,000 students in Swedish compulsory school from the Evaluation Through Follow-up (ETF) study, we investigate temporal trends in stress across three cohorts of students (born 1992, 1998, and 2004), with a focus on inequalities by school year, sex, socio-economic status, migration background, school grades, and school difficulties. The results show that (1) stress increased more in year 6 than in year 9 in recent cohorts; (2) stress increased more for girls than for boys; and (3) low school grades and school difficulties have become stronger risk factors for stress. We discuss the findings in the context of recent educational reforms and broader societal trends concerning the role of education for young people’s prospects in life.

Artificial intelligence through the prism of thematic research on ResearchGate web portal

Different instances of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in a short time have made a significant impact on the world’s economic and political scene. Before October 2022, processes of automatization and robotization of manufacturing didn’t have an immediate connection with artificial intelligence in the minds of most people. But mass and sudden infiltration of GenAI into the everyday life of many people around the world caused an immediate reaction from scientists, public figures, politicians, managers and heads of whole sectors of the economy. Thousands of scientific articles on related topics were published in the last two years: everyone at once started talking about fantastic possibilities, and also threats, which this new technology can usher in for our societies. Thus, for public thinking GenAI finally linked automatization with artificial intelligence.
 This paper provides an analysis of problems and prospects, through which scientists are trying to understand different societal processes linked to adoption of AI. For this purpose, the author of this paper analyzed the contents of papers published on this topic on the ResearchGate web portal in 2023, with the choice of the source for representative material motivated by scientific credibility of ResearchGate combined with its wide reach. Ten most popular articles were specifically targeted for final analysis, through which societal trends brought on by AI adoption were described. Although a selective meta-analysis of articles published during the first year after ChatGPT release can’t provide a full understanding of AI potential and possible threats to society, the conclusion can still be reached that a cardinal shift in society’s attitudes towards its own future is required.
 From the ten articles analyzed, four are related to changes required to the education system, four are about AI’s influence on the labour market, one article talks about the possibility of AI-human competition and one is about the AI potential in agriculture. Most articles mention the need for legislative changes in terms of labor protection and education reforms in-line with new digital reality.

Can Media Literacy Intervention Improve Fake News Credibility Assessment? A Meta-Analysis.

Fake news impacts individuals' behavior and decision-making while also disrupting political processes, perceptions of medical advice, and societal trends. Improving individuals' ability to accurately assess fake news can reduce its harmful effects. However, previous research on media literacy interventions designed for improving fake news credibility assessments has yielded inconsistent results. We systematically collected 33 independent studies and performed a meta-analysis to examine the effects of media literacy interventions on assessing fake news credibility (n = 36,256). The results showed that media literacy interventions significantly improved fake news credibility assessments (Hedges' g = 0.53, 95% confidence interval [0.29-0.78], p < 0.001). Gaming interventions were the most effective intervention form. Conversely, the intervention channel, outcome measurement, and subject characteristics (age, gender, and country development level) did not influence the intervention effects.

Many things can influence consumers before making a purchase at the kingpin bakery Gedhe , including electronic word of mouth, social media, and lifestyle. Study This aims to determine the influence of electronic word of mouth and media social, and lifestyle on purchasing decisions at the Roti Gembong Gedhe shop by students in Surakarta City. The research method is descriptive and analytical. Data used data primary and secondary data. The research sample is 100 respondents with a population students in Surakarta City. The analytical method used is analysis multiple linear regression. The research results show the characteristics of the most respondents is a woman amounting to 64% , with the majority of income amounting to not enough from IDR 1,500,000 per month . The majority of respondents made purchases at the Gembong Gedhe bakery 1 time by 32% and There are 15% who actively follow Roti Gembong Gedhe's Instagram . A total of 91% of respondents are also actively involved in reading reviews and comments online with an intensity of 1-3 times a day. Results of multiple linear regression analysis shows that the three independent variables are electronic word of mouth, social media and lifestyle together have a very real influence on purchasing decisions at the Gembong Gedhe Bakery partially there are 2 independent variables that have a very real influence on purchasing decisions at the Gembong Gedhe bakery that are Social media variables (x2) and Lifestyle variables (x3) . The suggestion from this research is that Roti Gembong Gedhe prioritizes it’s social media , so you can develop the Gembong Gedhe bread account from various platforms in line with societal trends . Gembong Gedhe bakery can also develop customized products with the lifestyle of consumers which targeted by the Gembong Gedhe bakery . Assessing individual environmental capital and pro-climate behaviour: A residential sector choice experiment on heating investment preferences

Grasping how individual choices and exogenous factors shape agents' environmental preferences is essential to comprehending societal trends in pro-environmental behaviour. To this end, this paper proposes the concept of “individual environmental capital”. It investigates how an individual's past pro-environmental decisions relate to their future ones, particularly in terms of willingness to pay for improvements in air quality. A randomised information treatment choice experiment was conducted in Poland to gauge individual environmental capital, accounting for physical assets and expressed policy preferences. The investigation found that willingness to pay varied depending on levels of prior investment in environmental assets and declared support for environmental regulations. Results demonstrate that highlighting one's past pro-climate endeavours may fail to differentiate the valuation of environmental protection among those who have already invested in environmental capital. However, it does seem to relate to a higher valuation for those yet to transition their energy systems.

This paper aims to consolidate relevant research within the field of sentiment analysis conducted in recent years. Furthermore, it seeks to prognosticate the future trajectories and impacts of this rapidly evolving domain. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate how the concepts contained in #pilpres2024 political advertisements on social media are associated with the theory of hyperreality on social media #pilpres2024. Theoretical Framework: This research explores the hyperreality of #pilpres2024 in digital political ads on social media, drawing on the hyperreality theory. Using big data analysis, it examines the interplay between #pilpres2024 concepts and hyperreality. The social reality shaped by language and symbols contributes to new trends and political views, evident on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok. This process transforms #pilpres2024 into a hyperreal simulacrum, influencing contemporary political perceptions in the digital sphere. Method: The research method used in this study is big data analysis, a social reality that is still generated, then regenerated and changed by the use of language and other symbols. Result and Conclusion: The findings of the research results of the #pilpres2024 symbol produce new trends as a choice of political views on social media depending on the dominant social media used, including Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok. Categorizing Social Movements as Successful or Failed: Exploring the Essence Contributing to Social Dynamic Balance

Research on social movements has been continuously robust and of significant theoretical importance in the field of social studies. This paper argues that there is no definitive criterion for categorizing social movements into a binary standard of either success or failure. Social movements emerge to instigate societal or ideological transformations. By analysing various historical movements worldwide, the study finds that when social movements reach extreme positions and unleash devastating forces upon society, they often provoke counter-movements that seek to restore social equilibrium. Societal trends oscillate back and forth, much like a pendulum, and social movements function as agents that pull the pendulum towards the centre when it reaches its peak on one side. Therefore, social movements act as regulators contributing to the constant dynamic balance in society. This nuanced perspective can inform policymakers, activists, and researchers in their efforts to engage with and respond to social movements, fostering more informed and effective strategies for societal change and progress.

Prevalence and Treatment of Substance Misuse in Older Adults: Beyond Early Adulthood.

Substance misuse, traditionally seen as a problem of early to mid-adulthood, is becoming increasingly prevalent among the older adult population (ages ≥65). Diagnosing and treating substance misuse in this vulnerable population is challenging because of multiple pre-existing medical comorbidities as well as polypharmacy. As such, it remains underdiagnosed and underrepresented in the literature. This review provides an overview of the three most commonly misused substances in older adults: alcohol, cannabis, and prescription drugs. It examines epidemiology, societal trends, and treatment options, highlighting the need for targeted research to address the unique challenges faced by older adults. This review also briefly comments on the prevalence and treatment of other illicit drugs in this population.

Research on Petroleum Industry Supply Chain in China: Performance and Predictive Analysis of Sinopec Group

As a major producer of oil and gas, China has historically adopted a variety of different approaches to managing its overall oil and gas supply chain. It also incorporates decisions and forecasts of trends in the overall petroleum supply chain in the context of existing domestic and international societal trends, such as the impact of national policies and the supply chains of China’s domestic petrochemical companies in the context of Sinopec’s past annual reports and assessments and recommendations for sustainable supply chains. This article uses the case study of Sinopec, a major Chinese chemical company, to provide statistics on the domestic market context and to propose and discuss risk management and sustainable supply chains for the company’s supply chain, as well as quantitative analysis to forecast and analyze China’s domestic oil consumption, with case studies and data on all indicators, and to show the impact of plans and trends on the chemical supply chain over time. The implications and trends of developing trends in the chemical supply chain are presented, and conclusions and final recommendations are drawn.

This article examines the role and advantages of a professional historian in the context of tasks related to the internationalization of information technology (IT) resources. Building on the premise that globalization processes require a comprehensive approach to adapting IT products to the cultural and social specificities of various countries and regions, the author argues that historical knowledge can serve as a reliable foundation for developing internationalization strategies. Particular attention is given to historians’ analytical abilities, their deep understanding of cultural and historical contexts, language skills, and the capacity for ethical and politically correct reviewing, which are critically important for successful localization and cultural adaptation of IT resources. The analysis explores how historical knowledge and methodological approaches can be integrated into the development and implementation processes of IT resources, as well as into procedures for assessing their effectiveness in the international market. The potential of historical science in predicting future societal trends and adapting technological innovations to these trends is addressed. The importance of an interdisciplinary approach in the modern globalized world is emphasized, where historical science not only serves as a means of understanding the past but also as a tool for effective adaptation and internationalization of electronic resources. The author argues that professional historians can play a key role in developing global strategies for the IT sector, contributing to the creation of inclusive, culturally adapted technological solutions that take into account the historical experience and cultural peculiarities of different peoples. The discussion includes how historical knowledge helps identify potential risks and opportunities associated with entering new markets, and how this knowledge can facilitate the development of more adapted and acceptable strategies for intercultural communication and interaction.

Traditional Cultural and Creative Product Design Methods Combining Digital Art Elements

Abstract As a mode of perpetuating and revitalizing traditional culture, cultural and creative products have garnered widespread affection and recognition from the public. In the context of evolving societal trends and advancements in science and technology, the digitization of traditional cultural and creative products has emerged as a prominent trend. This study undertakes the digital design of these products, primarily focusing on the innovative application of a style transfer algorithm to traditional motifs, supplemented by their visualization through digital platforms such as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). Furthermore, it facilitates intelligent consumer interaction via gesture recognition algorithms, thereby enhancing user engagement and experience. During the implementation phase, this research conducts comparative analyses of style transfer and gesture recognition within digital cultural and creative products. It also employs the Kano questionnaire to categorize and analyze user needs effectively. Notably, while the recall rate of the style transfer algorithm documented in this study remains below 0.9, it consistently achieves high precision, significantly enhances feature extraction capabilities, and improves the quality of the style transfer effects produced. Moreover, the static gesture recognition algorithm achieves an impressive average recognition rate of 98.2%. The dynamic gesture recognition algorithm, meanwhile, maintains an average recognition rate of 94% with a processing time of 3.2 seconds, balancing the demands of real-time interaction and accuracy effectively. This study systematically analyzes the significance of each requirement element across six dimensions, classifying customer needs for digital cultural and creative products into four distinct categories. Additionally, it delineates a viable pathway for the integration of digital art elements into the design of artistic and innovative products, setting a foundation for future innovations in this field.

Instytucjonalne i realizacyjne skutki decentralizacji administracji publicznej w warunkach chorwackiej administracji terenowej

In 2020, the deconcentrated model of the performance of state administration tasks in Croatian territorial units was replaced with the model of administrative decentralization. The new State Administration System Act abolished the county state administration offices as first-instance state administration bodies and transferred their tasks to the delegated scope of competence of counties as second-level self-government units. The paper explores the effects of administrative decentralization. Based on theoretical assumptions on decentralization effects, comparative experience with administrative decentralization ex-ante evaluation of county state administration offices abolition, five hypotheses about the effects of administrative decentralization in Croatian territorial governance setting are formulated. The hypotheses are tested by analysis of the legal and institutional framework of the performance of delegated tasks, empirical data gathered through the questionnaires, nine interviews, and secondary data. The results show that administrative decentralization strengthened the role of Croatian counties, strengthened their administrative role, strengthened the role of county governors, increased the horizontal and weakened vertical coordination, improved some aspects of service delivery but not uniformity in service provision across the state territory, and improved the transparency but not led to the democratization of county government. Five national-specific factors are analyzed as possible explanations for such results: general societal trends, external pressures, characteristics of Croatian public administration, general features of the Croatian local self-government system, and adopted organizational design.

Implementation features of the physical education program for secondary school students in the distance education condition

Distance learning, also known as online learning or e- learning, is an educational method that utilizes technology to deliver instruction to students who are not physically present in a traditional classroom setting. This approach enables students to access educational content and interact with instructors from anywhere with an internet connection. Various tools, such as video lectures, discussion forums, and online assessments, facilitate the learning process. The growing popularity of distance learning is a global trend, especially in the context of modern technology and global changes such as the COVID-19 pandemic or war. Features of distance learning may be distinctive from different countries depending on the infrastructure, educational systems, cultural characteristics and other factors. The main distance learning features: flexibility and convenience; using modern technologies and societal trends; lack of physical presence; independence; assessment is usually based on tests, projects and other tasks that the student completes in an online environment; development of e-communication skills; the need for regular materials updating. Twenty-one boys and sixteen girls of the eighth class took part in the research. All secondary school students were classified in the main medical group. The developed methodology contributes to the realization of the strengths and knowledge acquired by students in the basic component, the formation values life, mastering the experience of self-organization, self-realization, self-control and helps in professional self-determination. Analyzed the implemented methodology supported by positive digital dynamics, come to an agreement that the methodology aimed at the implementation of the physical culture program has the right to exist at present.

WHO’S UP NEXT? EXTENDED FAMILY CAREGIVERS OF PERSONS LIVING WITH DEMENTIA: CURRENT AND FUTURE CARE

Abstract Various societal trends and expanded family boundaries have led to a broad array of family members involved in caring for persons living with dementia (PLwD). We examined how extended family caregivers (FCG) manage their care responsibilities and how the care arrangement impacts the provision of future care for PLwD. Mixed-method data from 48 extended FCG and 56 nuclear FCG (71% White, 68% female, 63% co-reside with PLwD) revealed that 70% of extended FCG rely on informal helpers to care for PLwD. Spouses and daughters were more often sole caregivers while most sons relied on informal helpers. If no longer able to help, sisters, granddaughters, and nieces more likely foresaw moving PLwD to a care facility, whereas brothers, grandsons, and nephews anticipated another informal helper would assume their care. Extended FCG often expressed dissatisfaction with one or more informal helpers for failing to meet care responsibilities, potentially leading to unmet needs and increased risk for early nursing home placement for the PLwD. The discussion will focus on the attributes of informal helpers of extended FCG that contribute to stable or inconsistent care arrangements for PLwD, which can ultimately affect the well-being of PLwD and FCG.

Fertility education: recommendations for developing and implementing tools to improve fertility literacy†.

Many recent societal trends have led to the need for fertility education, including the age at which individuals become parents, the development of new reproductive technologies, and family diversity. Fertility awareness has emerged as a concept very recently and is increasingly gaining recognition. However, fertility education is often neglected as there is no consensus on the appropriate content, target populations, or on who should provide it. This article attempts to provide an overview of the use of interventions to improve fertility education. We emphasize the importance of delivering evidence-based information on fertility and reproductive health through various methods while providing guidelines for their standardization and systematization. Recommendations are provided to aid the development and implementation of fertility education tools, including: the establishment of a comprehensive understanding of the target populations; the incorporation of theories of behavioural change; the inclusion of the users' perspectives and the use of participatory research; and the use of specific guidelines for increasing engagement. By following these recommendations, it is expected that fertility education resources can contribute to improving fertility literacy, empowering individuals and couples to make informed reproductive decisions, and ultimately reducing the incidence of infertility and need for fertility treatment.
