Mobile Internet and Contentious Politics in Nigeria: Using the Organisational Tools of Mobile Social Networking Applications to Sustain Protest Movements

This study investigates the impact of mobile social networking applications in the organisation of protest movements by examining how protesters documented their participation during the 2020 #EndSARS protests as well as evaluating the themes that emerged from online activists’ tweets during the 2022 #EndSARSMemorial2 protests in Nigeria. Data for this study was obtained from a survey conducted in 2020 during the protests in Lagos and Port Harcourt, Nigeria (N = 391), and a qualitative content analysis of tweets and replies (N = 67,691) from the 2022 #EndSARSMemorial2 protest in Nigeria. Results show that there is a substantial relationship between how protesters document their participation and their day of joining the protest. Findings also demonstrate that protesters used social media platforms accessed via mobile phones to display their anger and anguish, imprecate the authorities, and rouse solidarity contagion, which ignited a memorial march for fallen activists in Nigeria. Finally, data illustrate that activists in Nigeria use these successive memorial protests to sustain the #EndSARS protest movements and their demands.

Real-Time Monitoring System for School-Enterprise Dual-Host Sports Person Path Optimization Based on Online Data Interest Community Game Algorithm

This paper expounds the framework and innovation of a school's construction of a "two-three-three system" school-enterprise dual-discipline interactive teaching quality monitoring system. First, based on the online data mining algorithm, this paper proposes a data forwarding topology model for mobile social networks. This model combines the game theory algorithm to conduct real-time monitoring and analysis of the autonomous learning and teaching modes of schools and enterprises. Then, the game theory algorithm will eventually converge. To Nash equilibrium, that is, through the overall optimal solution combined with school-enterprise supervision of practical teaching and teaching evaluation to carry out comprehensive teaching quality monitoring, so as to maximize the teaching quality and improve the effect of teaching quality.

ASPA-MOSN: An Efficient User Authentication Scheme for Phishing Attack Detection in Mobile Online Social Networks

Over the last few years, with the massive growth of smartphone technology and mobile Internet, the use of various online social networks (OSNs) have increased rapidly. This ever-growing use of social networks leverages cyber-attackers to exploit various phishing schemes, spoofed accounts, and other threats to steal users’ credentials. Phishing is an online crime that employs both technical subterfuge and social engineering to steal consumers’ personal identity, financial account credentials, and other sensitive information. In general, a phishing attack is carried out by the exercise of sending fraudulent communications (like a fake email with harmful uniform resource locators), that pretends to come from a reputable source. The problem of designing user authentication protocol for mitigating phishing attacks in OSNs is a challenging research problem. In this article, we propose a secure and lightweight cryptography-based authentication scheme, called authentication scheme for phishing attack (ASPA)-mobile online social network (mOSN), that provides resistance to phishing and other related attacks in OSNs. The security of the proposed scheme is explained using both informal security analysis and formal security analysis through the widely recognized real-or-random model and ProVerif simulation tool. Finally, we compare the security, functionality, computation, and communication costs of the proposed ASPA-mOSN with related schemes. The comparison results show that ASPA-mOSN outperforms other existing competing schemes.

Knowledge sharing on mobile social networking: motivational drivers and influence on productivity

Purpose This paper aims to investigate the motivational drivers for knowledge sharing (KS) through the application of mobile social networking (MSN) and their influence on employee productivity in the Malaysian construction industry. Design/methodology/approach The data was collected by distributing a self-administered questionnaire among employees working in the construction industry. A total of 250 questionnaires were collected and analysed using partial least squares structural equation modeling. This study used a variety of analysis methodologies including correlation analysis, reliability and validity testing, as well as a structural model in evaluating the relationships between KS, motivational factors and influence on productivity. Findings The empirical results of this study reveal that utilitarian motivation is positively related to internal and external KS. Similarly, internal and external KS have a positive influence on productivity, while internal and external hedonic motivation does not show any significant relationship with productivity. Research limitations/implications Considering the paucity of evidence regarding the determinants of KS motivational drives on employee productivity in the Malaysian construction industry, this study enriches the social cognitive theory-based literature on KS. Practical implications This study provides some insights to the players in the construction industry in implementing the most appropriate KS promotion strategies that could potentially influence employee productivity. Organisations in the construction industry that place great emphasis on utilitarian motivation including competency, reward and incentives are more likely to have a better influence on KS and, in turn, positively impact employee productivity. Originality/value This study meaningfully contributes to enhancing the understanding of the motivational drivers for sharing knowledge on MSN and its influence on productivity. The findings of this study potentially assist construction practitioners in developing a holistic blueprint for managing their KS towards improving the overall productivity of their employees.

Privacy paradox for location tracking in mobile social networking apps: The perspectives of behavioral reasoning and regulatory focus

Social networking services (SNSs) have been collecting and analyzing users' personal data for the sake of personalization and customization, raising massive privacy concerns. Among the various types of privacy, personal location data are considered most sensitive, but are critical for the location-based features in mobile SNS applications. Drawing on behavioral reasoning theory and accounting for the privacy paradox, this study investigates the heterogeneous psychological mechanisms supporting and discouraging mobile SNS users from enabling location tracking in SNS applications. Based on a survey of young internet users in China, our analysis shows that, first, reasons for location tracking are insignificantly associated with intention to allow location tracking but reasons against are negatively related to intention. Furthermore, for individuals with higher desire to share, reasons for and attitude have the stronger associations with intention, while the moderating effect of desire for privacy is insignificant. We make research contributions by examining the antecedents of the reasoning process, as well as the moderating role of desire to share, to account for the privacy paradox. We also contribute to behavioral reasoning theory by introducing regulatory focus-based antecedents to the reasoning process. We offer key practical suggestions for SNS providers and policymakers.

Self-care for coronavirus disease through electronic health technologies: A scoping review.

Considering the rapid spread and transmission of COVID-19 and its high mortality rate, self-care practices are of special importance during this pandemic to prevent and control the spread of the virus. In this regard, electronic health systems can play a major role in improving self-care practices related to coronavirus disease. This study aimed to review the electronic health technologies used in each of the constituent elements of the self-care (self-care maintenance, self-care monitoring, and self-care management) during the COVID-19 pandemic. This scoping review was conducted based on Arksey and O'Malley's framework. In this study, the specific keywords related to "electronic health,""self-care,"and "COVID-19" were searched on PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google. Of the 47 articles reviewed, most articles (27 articles) were about self-care monitoring and aimed to monitor the vital signs of patients. The results showed that the use of electronic health tools mainly focuses on training in the control and prevention of coronavirus disease during this pandemic, in the field of self-care maintenance, and medication management, communication, and consultation with healthcare providers, in the field of self-care management. Moreover, the most commonly used electronic health technologies were mobile web applications, smart vital signs monitoring devices, and social networks, respectively. The study findings suggested that the use of electronic health technologies, such as mobile web applications and social networks, can effectively improve self-care practices for coronavirus disease. In addition, such technologies can be applied by health policymakers and disease control and prevention centers to better manage the COVID-19 pandemic.

Collective Influence Maximization in Mobile Social Networks

The omnipresence of information cascading process in mobile social networking applications makes the identification of a small set <inline-formula><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$S$</tex-math></inline-formula> of influential users, which is widely believed to trigger the information outbreak, always an crucial issue in various applications such as the mobile advertising and viral marketing. Formulated as Influence maximization (IM) in 2003, this NP-hard problem has received a multitude of studies with diverse angles. However, these works often unable to provide reliable solutions, due to the loss of an exact metric for evaluating users’ contributions on information cascading in the state-of-the-art sampling based IM schemes. In this paper, we evaluate users in IM based on the collective influence (CI), a metric on the structural features of the users in network graph that reflects the contributions of the users’ neighborhoods on shaping collective dynamics of the users over the whole network. For conducting the influencer identification under probabilistic diffusion model based on the CI, we specify a quantified structural feature of the most influential users from the scope of diffusion over the whole network, and reveal that the structural influence power (CI value) of each user is a weighted cumulation of the diffusion probabilities from neighbors within certain hops. Utilizing CI, we design a novel algorithm which identifies the influencers via iteratively choosing the users with top CI values. Moreover, we point out that directly computing CI values requires to traverse the network which is originally represented by a high-dimensional matrix, and leads to huge complexity of influencer identification. To improve scalability, we further trade precision for efficiency by incorporating network embedding, a dimensionality reduction technology for networks, into algorithm design, and propose a minor variant, where CI is jointly recapitulated by low-dimensional user representations and user degrees. The superiority of our algorithms is empirically validated over 8 datasets, with an increment in influence size up to 50 percent and a comparable or even less running time comparing with existing baselines.

Agency in Development through Mobile-Technology-Assisted Interaction: Agentic Learning Behaviours and Emerging Dimensions

Discussion on agency has been well documented in language research and recently gaining more ground in the ever-changing learning environment supported by mobile technologies. In such ubiquitous settings, online interaction, as a key catalyst to promote agency, has attracted an increasing attention of researchers and educators. However, a paucity of research has been focused on investigating the way learners exercise their agency in mobile-technology-assisted online interaction and factors that may affect their practice of agency. This research employs a case-study approach to examining how interaction helps enable learners’ development of agency in a mobile social network application (WeChat) assisted informal learning environment. Data were collected through a questionnaire and recorded interaction via discussion activities on WeChat. The questionnaire data indicated that participants had overall positive attitudes towards WeChat-assisted learning and helped gauge the feasibility of implementing subsequent WeChat-assisted discussion activities in this study. Suárez et al.’s (2018) six dimensions of learner agency (goals; content; actions; strategies; reflection; monitoring) were adopted as an analytical framework to guide data analysis and discussion. It was found that towards the completion of discussion sessions on WeChat, except agency in ‘monitoring’ discussion progress, all the other five dimensions were observed and strengthened in terms of initiating discussion ‘goals’, leveraging ‘content’, implementing ‘actions’, employing discussion ‘strategies’, and ‘reflecting’ on the content and interaction. It is argued that even with practice effect, teacher intervention still seemed to be indispensable to help ‘monitor’ the discussion progress in a mobile-technology-assisted autonomous learning environment. Information Dissemination Prediction of College Students’ Learning Requirements Based on Mobile Social Network

Starting point of this research is the information dissemination and fluctuation of the learning requirements of college students between the student individuals and the mobile learning platforms, to solve this problem, it’s of certain practical value to explore the information dissemination efficiency of college students’ learning requirements under different conditions and study the prediction accuracy optimization method. However, existing studies generally focus on the feasibility of applying existing methods to the prediction of college students’ learning requirements, but the research on such prediction is neither sufficient nor deep enough. This paper constructed a model of college students’ mobile social network based on the actual data of college students’ mobile social behaviors, and innovatively proposed a novel algorithm for predicting college students’ requirements for mobile learning. At last, experimental results verified the effectiveness of the constructed model and the proposed algorithm.

Background and Aim: The most important issue of adolescence is gaining identity. Identity is considered as a process of coherence of individual changes, social demands and expectations for the future. The purpose of this study is to design a model for the use of virtual social networks in identifying adolescents. Methods: This research has been done in the framework of a quantitative approach and using the survey research method. For this purpose, 385 adolescents aged 15 to 18 years in Tehran in 2020 were selected by multi-stage cluster sampling. A questionnaire was used to collect data. Results: According to the findings of the present study, the most use of social networks of adolescents is for the purpose of acquiring knowledge and in the second place for the purpose of entertainment. The level of trust and influence of male students from social networks is higher according to the average rankings. The stability and strength of the family is more than other dimensions of identity referred. The degree of influence of social networks has a significant relationship with family structure. The influence of artists and actors and social networks is more after choosing a job and activity. Conclusion: The results of the present study indicate that there is a relationship between the use of mobile social networks and the identification of adolescents.

Neocolonialism in the Sphere of Education and Mass Media in Africa: Transition from Cultural to Digital Imperialism

For the majority of African countries dismantling of the colonial system in the middle of the Twentieth century resulted mostly in political independence with weak economical foundations. This reality paved their way from colonial to neocolonial dependence. Colonialism, in the modern sense, is not only the conquest and exploration of new territories, it is a way of thinking and interacting, a system of discursive operation of power. Neocolonialism, while pursuing the same goals as the classical colonial regime, was in many ways more complicated and sophisticated, affecting the fields of ideology, culture, science, education and information. In the 1970s, the thesis was put forward that cultural expansion was a kind of imperialism i.e. cultural imperialism. Since the late 1980s the term “cultural imperialism” has disappeared from the social sciences, while the phenomenon of indirect control of former colonies has remained. The question of the independence of the cultural and information sphere in Africa has not been resolved to these days. The countries of the African continent throughout the twentieth century were not equal participants in information interactions, acting either as objects of consideration and study or as consumers of information. Although in the first decade of the twenty-first century Africa experienced a boom in mobile communication and social networking, and the widespread diffusion of information technology inspired optimism and hope for a fair exchange of information, at that time there was talk of imperialism again, but this time of informational or digital imperialism. Although the term is not yet universally accepted, it represents a form of neo-colonialism aimed at the continued exploitation of African peoples.

The connected consumer: New purchase triggers that are transforming the wine market?

This review examines the changes in wine consumer purchasing habits caused by the emergence of digital technologies. The authors discuss new purchase triggers such as mobile apps, social networks, and online sales sites and their impact on consumers' perception and selection of wines. The review also examines the implications of these changes for wine producers, distributors, and retailers, particularly in terms of marketing, data management, and logistics. The authors emphasise that the digital transformation of the wine industry is creating new challenges for traditional industry players, but also new opportunities for innovative actors and startups. The review concludes that digital technologies have significantly altered wine consumers' purchasing habits and are transforming the wine industry. The authors stress that industry players must adapt to these changes by developing new marketing and distribution strategies, using data to better understand consumer preferences, and exploring new online sales channels.

Innovative financing tools for humanitarian projects in the context of war: Ukraines experience

It has been established that in the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war, charitable organizations, fundraising platforms, and citizen-led initiatives have become key players in addressing essential humanitarian needs. Through them, medical assistance, food, clothing, and other necessary resources are provided to civilians, particularly in the occupied and frontline territories. Equally important is the work with internally displaced persons, veterans, women, and children who have been affected by the war, ensuring their rehabilitation, psychological support, and integration into society. They also take initiatives to restore damaged and destroyed infrastructure objects, especially in active combat zones. The research results have shown the necessity of enhancing the efficiency of humanitarian project funding through the application of innovative technologies. It is proposed to use information systems for analyzing geospatial data, which can help in more accurately identifying territories with the most significant humanitarian needs and better planning resources. Considering the abundance of information related to humanitarian needs, financial transactions, and risks during wartime, it is justified to utilize artificial intelligence and machine learning for effective data processing and decision-making. Attention has been given to the use of cryptocurrencies as a promising instrument that can replace traditional methods of fundraising for humanitarian projects. It has been found that active use of mobile applications and social networks will enable the engagement of more participants, scaling up fundraising efforts, and increasing awareness about humanitarian needs. These innovations will make humanitarian project funding in the conditions of war more capable of addressing complex social challenges. Additionally, creating an interactive data exchange platform will facilitate better collaboration among charitable organizations, fundraising platforms, citizen-led initiatives, and governmental bodies, ensuring balanced and effective assistance.

AN ANALYSIS OF THE LITERATURE ON SOCIETY'S CONCERNS ON INDIA'S CYBERSECURITY IN THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY

Cyber security is concerned with matters of cyber-ethics and cyber-safety. The idea of cyber security should be introduced to and ingrained from a young age. Security countermeasures aid in preserving the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of information systems by preventing or lessening asset losses brought on by cyber security threats. An intrusion detection system (IDS) application analyses what happens during an execution and searches for indications that the computer has been mistreated. Numerous metaphors, including those relating to biological processes, healthcare, markets, three-dimensional space, and the preservation of tangible goods, were taken into account. These in turn sparked the investigation of a wide range of prospective tactics for advancing cyber security in the future. The concepts of "Heterogeneity," "Motivating Secure Behaviour," and "Cyber Wellness" were employed to define these tactics. Cyber security plays an important role in the development of information technology and Internet services. Our attention tends to gravitate toward "Cyber Security" when we hear about "Cyber Crimes." Therefore, how well our system handles "Cyber Crimes" is the first factor we take into account when talking about "National Cyber Security". This newsletter focuses on expanding trends in cyber security in light of the widespread adoption of cutting-edge technologies including mobile computing, cloud computing, e-commerce, and social networking. In the research, it is also covered how challenges are exacerbated by a lack of coordination between security organizations and crucial IT infrastructures.

Effect of Education Using Mobile Social Networks on Anxiety and Satisfaction of Candidates for Coronary Angiography

Background &amp; Aims Cardiovascular diseases are responsible for 30% of all deaths worldwide. The present study aims to evaluate the effect of education through online social media (WhatsApp) on the anxiety and satisfaction of candidates for coronary angiography. Materials &amp; Methods In this study, participants were candidates for elective coronary angiography referred to Imam Khomeini Hospital in Ahvaz, Iran from May to July 2021. They were assigned to the intervention (n=43) and control (n=43) groups. Data were collected using a demographic form, the Beck anxiety inventory (BAI) and the visual analog scale (VAS) for measuring satisfaction. Data analysis was performed in SPSS software, version 16 using independent t-test, paired t-test, chi-square test, and Fisher's exact test. Results Both groups were homogeneous in terms of demographic characteristics at baseline, and there was no significant difference in BAI scores between the intervention and control groups before the intervention (P=0.229). The results of independent t-test showed a significant difference in the mean BAI score before and after intervention in two groups (P&lt;0.001), indicating the effect of intervention on reducing anxiety. The results of independent t-test showed that the satisfaction in the intervention group was significantly higher than in the control group (P&lt;0.001). The results of the paired t-test showed that in both intervention (P&lt;0.001) and control (P=0.005) groups, the BAI score decreased significantly after the intervention compared to the pre-intervention phase. The effect size of education on anxiety was 0.9 and the effect size on satisfaction was 1.88, which shows the high effect of the educational intervention. Conclusion The use of mobile social networks for education is effective in reducing anxiety and improving satisfaction in patients undergoing coronary angiography. Therefore, this interventional method can be used by nurses as an effective method in medical centers.
