Educational Programs to Promote Social Entrepreneurship: Development of Human and Community Skills in Real Environments

This quantitative study investigates the impact of educational programs designed to foster social entrepreneurship on the development of human and community skills. Data were collected from 150 university students in Latin America, who participated in social entrepreneurship programs during the 2022-2023 academic cycle. Through structured surveys, key competencies such as leadership, empathy, problem-solving and teamwork were assessed. The results show that educational programs that integrate social entrepreneurship have a significant impact on the development of skills that not only benefit students individually, but also their communities. This study highlights the importance of practical experiences in education for social entrepreneurship.

Religious Organizations Development through Social Entrepreneurship Activity: Opportunities and Challenges from Stakeholders' Perspective

Social entrepreneurship is an innovative approach to addressing diverse social issues across various sectors. However, its recognition within religious organizations remains limited. Social entrepreneurship offers significant prospects for enhancing community well-being while tackling prevalent social challenges. Nevertheless, substantial hurdles emerge, particularly in engaging stakeholders who are pivotal in executing social entrepreneurship initiatives within religious organizations. This research was conducted within GMIM Lembean Kora-kora region, where a religious organization is situated in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. The organization has involved its congregation in implementing social entrepreneurship programs, primarily in agriculture and culinary ventures. The study identifies opportunities and challenges in social entrepreneurship within religious organizations. Additionally, it explores the implementation of social entrepreneurship in the context of congregational development, with a specific emphasis on the role of stakeholders in driving these initiatives. The findings demonstrate that religious organizations can harness social entrepreneurship's potential and surmount its challenges. This research introduces a model of social entrepreneurship better suited for religious organizations, particularly in their profound understanding of community opportunities and challenges.

Public Libraries as Incubators for Social Inclusion and Entrepreneurship for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) : A Progressive Transformation

This research aims to explore the role of public libraries as incubators of social inclusion and entrepreneurship in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study method, focusing on public libraries in Karanganyar Regency, Central Java, Indonesia, that have implemented social inclusion and entrepreneurship programs. The data were collected through in-depth interviews with librarians, program participants, and relevant stakeholders, as well as direct observation and program document analysis. The data analysis followed the framework proposed by Miles and Huberman, which involves a systematic approach to qualitative data analysis, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results showed that libraries functioning as entrepreneurship incubators can effectively provide platforms for business training, technology access, and network development. These programs enhanced individual's skills and knowledge and drived local economic growth by creating new businesses and increasing employment opportunities. Additionally, library social inclusion initiatives boost community participation and engagement, strengthen social cohesion, and reduce inequality. The research concludes that public libraries in Karanganyar Regency have significant potential as agents of social change by integrating social inclusion and entrepreneurship programs. To optimize this role, adequate policy support, enhanced librarian competencies, and collaboration with various stakeholders are necessary. Thus, libraries can significantly contribute to achieving the SDGs, particularly in quality education, decent work and economic growth, reduced inequalities, and partnerships for the goals.

Match or Mismatch of Expectation-Realization Behind the Motives in Supporting Social Entrepreneurship Programs

Abundant studies regarding motives in social enterprise have been conducted but have barely explored the gaps between motivational expectations and realizations. Particularly in waste bank studies, such a study has yet to be scholarly discussed. Using expectancy theory and mismatch hypotheses, this study explored the motives in waste bank participation towards owners/managers and customers and measured the gaps between the motive expectations and realizations. Quantitative comparison tests were employed on 45 Indonesian waste bank owners/managers and 162 customers whose data were collected directly and through online surveys. The findings reveal that the most expected motive was the environmental, while the least was the economic; this went for both waste bank owners/managers and customers. The results also show that severe mismatches occurred between expectations and realizations, in which the most significant gap for waste bank owners/managers was educational, while the environmental motive was the biggest for customers. This study's findings enrich the social entrepreneurship literature by showing that the motives per se are insufficient to reveal individuals' actual situations in supporting the social programs, as disparities are very likely to occur between expectations and realities. The gap analysis in this study provides a different alternative to conducting studies related to the underlying motives for supporting social entrepreneurship programs.

The role of higher education institutions in preparing individuals for social entrepreneurship

Introduction. Social entrepreneurship is based on work with resources, including competence, and professional and personal qualities of the individual. the system of education is able to ensure their development. Aim. To analyze the relevant scientific literature and, on its basis, to determine the role of higher education institutions in preparing individuals for social entrepreneurship. Methods. Theoretical analysis, systematization and generalization of scientific literature on the problem of interest. Results. Higher education institutions play a significant role in the social entrepreneurship ecosystem. The organization of social entrepreneurship education includes educational support, level of training, field of knowledge, content of training, tools of informal education, and work of private organizations. The author describes the personal competencies, professional and personal qualities and values that should be developed after taking the "Social entrepreneurship" course. Conclusions. The study demonstrated an important role of education in preparing individuals for social entrepreneurship and building the social entrepreneurship ecosystem. A prominent place in the educational support for the development of social entrepreneurship is occupied by the strategic planning of the university's activities with regard to social needs and the implementation of the university's "third mission". The social entrepreneurship programs should be based on both formal and informal education with the focus on developing needed personal and professional competencies.

Social Entrepreneurship Program to Improve the economic Welfare of Poor Families in Indonesia

This study aims to examine the impact of the social entrepreneurship program on the economic welfare of its beneficiaries. The Covid-19 pandemic has significantly affected the implementation of such programs, making it essential to understand how economic welfare has been affected during and after the pandemic. The study will assess family income levels before the pandemic, during the pandemic, and after the program’s implementation. Social entrepreneurship, as a blend of business and social values, is considered an effective tool in alleviating poverty and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in achieving zero poverty. In Indonesia, the Social Entrepreneurship Program was launched by the Ministry of Social Affairs in 2020, targeting 1,000 beneficiaries. A mixed-method approach combining qualitative and quantitative methods is employed in this study. The findings demonstrate an overall increase in the economic income of program beneficiaries. This rise in income has proven effective in restoring the economic welfare of the beneficiaries to pre-pandemic levels. These results are valuable in refining the social entrepreneurship program’s design and structure, particularly for poverty-stricken individuals, with the aim of enhancing family income and overall economic well-being.

Institutionalized Social Entrepreneurship in Indonesia: A report on the challenges of state-driven social entrepreneurship promotion within the Five Cities' social assistance program

ABSTRACT The landscape of social entrepreneurship has undergone rapid evolution within business and non-profit sectors in recent years. However, there is a more recent trend in Indonesia, where social entrepreneurship is formally practised in public policy. This new approach represents an initiative related to what we call Institutionalized Social Entrepreneurship (ISE). In this article, we investigate the challenges faced while implementing experimental measures to transform cash transfers into social entrepreneurship programs based on 43 interviews with key stakeholders and end-users spreading over five regions. Our research findings indicate a lack of shared understanding among stakeholders when implementing social entrepreneurship programs. Furthermore, the beneficiaries face difficulties distinguishing between social entrepreneurship programs and regular cash transfers, leading to ineffective program outcomes and significant challenges in achieving community development objectives. This issue is exacerbated by an unbalanced power distribution between government and non-government actors involved in program implementation, which can potentially limit the program’s effectiveness and efficiency. Its unfolding transformation of social assistance and the application of social entrepreneurship in Indonesia highlight a new deal for welfare that responds to uncertain post-pandemic circumstances. This study adds to the literature on social entrepreneurship by highlighting the complexities of the state-society relationship in ISE.

Windjammer: Finding Purpose and Meaning on a Tall Ship Adventure

The Windjammer project started in 2018 as a social entrepreneurship program in Norway for adolescents at risk of social drop-out and societal exclusion. While the effects on society of such programs are difficult to measure, aspects such as perceived meaning in life are largely overlooked in the literature. This study explored wellbeing and the processes of creating meaning among adolescents at risk during a one-month tall ship adventure. Three methodological approaches were used. First, psychological and demographic data from the Windjammer participants (n = 122) were compared to a national adolescent survey (Ungdata, n = 793,879) serving as a comparison group. Second, using sensory ethnography, the sailing experience of seven adolescents from one adventure was explored in depth through interviews while onboard the ship. Third, a mixed-methods approach was used to further explore three individual adolescents’ experiences of the adventure. Overall findings show that Windjammers experienced life as less meaningful than the general adolescent population. Interviewed Windjammers talked about transformative experiences, although quantitative data showed a slight decrease in meaning following the adventure. Overall, the tall ship adventure was found to involve four overarching themes: commitment, social wellbeing, familiarization with seamanship, and self-acceptance.

THE URGENCY OF DERADICALIZATION MEASURES FOR TERRORISM INMATES IN CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES

<p><em>Terrorism crimes pose a threat to the state ideology, national security, state sovereignty, human values, and various aspects of societal, national, and state life, and they often have a transnational nature. These terrorism crimes require deradicalization measures for terrorism inmates in Indonesia, taking into account the individual conditions of each perpetrator, their families, and their social environment. The problem addressed in this paper pertains to the urgency of deradicalization measures for terrorism inmates in correctional facilities. This paper adopts an empirical juridical approach, conducting field research that examines legal regulations combined with data and behavior prevalent in society. The research findings indicate that: (1) The implementation of deradicalization measures for terrorism inmates in correctional facilities is not yet effective due to internal factors, which involve the lack of integration in handling terrorism inmates. Additionally, external factors, such as insufficient socialization, lack of training for officers, inadequate support facilities, budget constraints, and limited facilities in correctional facilities, contribute to the inefficiency. (2) The regulation of deradicalization for terrorism inmates in correctional facilities is based on Law Number 22 of 2022 concerning Correctional Institutions. The deradicalization regulation for terrorism inmates is stipulated in Article 54 paragraph (4), which outlines the stages: identification and assessment, rehabilitation, reeducation, and social reintegration. (3) The urgency of deradicalization measures for terrorism inmates in correctional facilities is not specific, as it is still treated similarly to other cases involving inmates. The deradicalization measures are carried out through social reintegration programs, education programs, skills training, and entrepreneurship programs for terrorism inmates, which aims to improve their well-being after their release and facilitate their reintegration into society to support their families. The independence and self-confidence of terrorism inmates in returning to society will prevent them from returning to their terrorist groups.</em></p>

Career choices and job preferences of social entrepreneurship graduates: implication for redefining “success” of social entrepreneurship education

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to understand the reason of attraction for the young professionals (who left their paid employment) to pursue social entrepreneurship (SE) education, to understand role played by SE education program on developing entrepreneurship knowledge and skills to create social impact and to explore the influence of SE education on their career choices and job-preferences. Design/methodology/approach This exploratory study uses qualitative methodology to collect data from 16 alumni of Master of Arts in Social Entrepreneurship (MASE) Program, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, India. Findings The findings indicate that the knowledge and skills learned through the MASE program played a significant role to create an entrepreneurial mindset and put such skills into action to create impact (as job creator/entrepreneur or job seeker/intrapreneur) as well any change in their career choice, job-preference and job-mobility. The findings force us to re-define “success of SE education”, as in both the cases, they are creating social impact using their entrepreneurship knowledge and skills. Career advancement and personal growth opportunities, and their willingness to create impact as decision makers act as strongest motivators to choose the program. Furthermore, the study also highlights the additional factors, which influence their decision of choosing/not choosing SE as career option. Research limitations/implications The findings cannot be generalized. The qualitative data is analyzed inductively to arrive at the findings. Practical implications The findings are relevant for SE educators and also the policy makers. Promotion of SE education will not only create employment for others, but will also address several other social problems, and contribute to inclusive development of the country. Originality/value The uniqueness lies in understanding the motivations behind the decision of pursuing MASE program then followed by exploring the influence of SE education on their career choices and job-preferences.

EMPOWERMENT OF THE BENEFICIARY FAMILY (KPM) OF THE HOPE FAMILY PROGRAM (PKH) THROUGH THE SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM (PROKUS) IN CILEBAR DISTRICT, KARAWANG REGENCY

Prokus is a program launched by the Ministry of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia which targets beneficiary families (KPM) who have graduated or left the Family Hope Program (PKH) so that independence is formed. economically so that they do not go back down economically after they no longer receive assistance through PKH. Graduation KPM-PKH themselves are those who are still in the poor and vulnerable category but are graduated because some of the components do not fulfill them. As stated by the Director General of Social Empowerment of the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs, "ProKUS simply empowers the community through a business approach. The purpose of this study was to find out how the process of empowering KPM PKH through Prokus in Cilebar District, Karawang Regency was viewed from the empowerment of PKH KPM in implementing social entrepreneurship programs accompanied by District Social Welfare Workers (TKSK) as social assistants. This study uses a descriptive method, with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out by means of data reduction, data clarification, data verification, and drawing conclusions. Based on the six aspects above, KPM ProKUS is grouped into beginner categories, developing categories and advanced categories. In the Cilebar District KPM there are two categories, namely the beginner category of 14 KPM and the developing category of 3 KPM. This program is expected to break the dependence of KPM on social assistance and create and enhance the spirit of social entrepreneurship and business independence. The outputs and achievement targets of this research are in the form of accepted scientific articles in accredited national journals. Research Technology Readiness Level target in year 1 is scale 2.

Social Entrepreneurship, Complex Thinking, and Entrepreneurial Self-Efficacy: Correlational Study in a Sample of Mexican Students

This article presents the results of a study conducted on a sample population of students attending a technological university in western Mexico. The development of the entrepreneurial self-efficacy competency was evaluated within a process of ideation of social entrepreneurship projects to develop social entrepreneurship and complex thinking competencies. A multivariate descriptive analysis was implemented to demonstrate possible statistically significant correlations between the competencies of social entrepreneurship, complex thinking, and entrepreneurial self-efficacy. The results confirm the correlations between the competencies of social entrepreneurship, complex thinking, and entrepreneurial self-efficacy, concluding that there is statistically significant information to indicate that the complex thinking competency positively impacts not only the process of generating social entrepreneurship projects but also the scaling of entrepreneurs’ perceptions about their capabilities at the time of entrepreneurship. At a practical level, this study presents results that argue for the need to develop complex thinking in students in social entrepreneurship programs, both in universities and in organizations that promote entrepreneurship. It confirms that complex thinking is a valuable competency in the ideation and generation of entrepreneurial proposals.

Strategy to Improve KPM’s Start-Up Business Creativity in the Context of Social Entrepreneurship Program

Purpose: The aim of this research was to investigate strategy to improve KPM’s start-up business creativity in the context of social entrepreneurship program. Theoretical framework: The primary goal of social work is to improve a society's overall well-being, especially for the most vulnerable populations. It's not just corporate responsibility where social workers can help businesses and strengthen entrepreneurship (Zastrow, 2017). Design/methodology/approach: The method used a qualitative approach by interviewing 3 informants of KPM, and the data was analysed by using SWOT analysis to helping identify competitive opportunities for improvement. It was designed to assess strengths (S) and weaknesses (W) as internal capabilities, while opportunities (O) and threats (T) are posed by the external environment. Findings: KPM was in incubate profile of creativity and need to empower their business skill to be sustainable, and needed the intervention of social work in giving some business education and to strengthen social entrepreneurship of KPM by using case work method should be improved. Research, Practical & Social implications: This research is urgently needed to break KPM's dependence on public assistance and increase their sustainable income through business startups and strengthen their entrepreneurial spirit. Originality/value: This research related to social work intervention in business and industry to strengthen KPM start-up through social entrepreneurship. KPM showed that they still rely on public assistance to meet their daily needs.

Holistic Blended Values: Another Social Entrepreneurship Paradigm

This study seeks to comprehend in-depth how social entrepreneurship (SE) practices from a business standpoint in Islamic boarding schools, as well as what values emerge in SE practices. The qualitative research design is descriptive exploratory, with a holistic single-case study conducted at the Sidogiri Islamic boarding school in Pasuruan, Indonesia. In-depth interviews, field observations, focused discussions, and a review of supporting documents were employed to collect data. Purposive sampling was used to select key informants, and the snowball sampling technique was used to select other informants based on key informant recommendations. After maintaining quality standards through data triangulation, observers and sources, and member checks, data analysis employs an interactive model. According to the findings, SE practices are implemented through a combination of corporate social responsibility programs, bottom-of-the-pyramid orientation, other SE activities, and spirituality. The distinction of SE development in the Islamic boarding school-based business perspective in Indonesia is this balance. The balance of the SE program, as reflected in the holistic blended value, is critical to the business's existence and sustainability. The last section goes over the implications and future research.

KECENDERUNGAN KEUSAHAWANAN SOSIAL DALAM KALANGAN MURID SEKOLAH MENENGAH USAHAWAN AL-AMIN

Social entrepreneurship neither completely become choice of entrepreneurs nor researchers. Therefore, this study aims to examine the influence of attitudes, social norms, and perceived behavioral control on social entrepreneurship tendencies of Sekolah Menengah Usahawan Al-Amin’s students. Objectives of this study to i) identify the level of attitude, social norms and perceived behavioral control and social entrepreneurship tendencies of SM Usahawan Al-Amin’s students ii) identify influence of attitude, social norms, and perceived behavioral control on social entrepreneurship tendencies of SM Usahawan Al-Amin students. Study uses quantitative approach with survey design through questionnaire. 63 entrepreneurship course students aged 13 to 17 were selected randomly. Theory of Planned Behavior is basis for solving issue gap and implementing study. Data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 26 to obtain descriptive and inferential analysis. Findings of study show level of social entrepreneurship tendencies, attitudes and social norms are moderately high. Contradictorily, perceived behavioral control is relatively low level. The variance value of attitude, social norms, and perceived behavioral control towards social entrepreneurship tendencies is 12.476 and significant. Attitude is the best influence on social entrepreneurship tendencies. Results of multiple regression analysis show attitude contribute 47.8 percent compared to perception of behavioral control 13.4 percent and social norms only 11.1 percent. Briefly, SM Usahawan Al-Amin’s students were found to have attitudes towards social entrepreneurship. Therefore, students need exposure to various skills, knowledge, and appropriate approaches through entrepreneurial education to build social entrepreneurial mindset and identity. Thus, implication of this study can further strengthen the use of Theory of Planned Behavior through variant value 38.8 percent. Hoped findings of this study can be used to design social entrepreneurship programs to foster social entrepreneurship attitudes and increase the level of attitudes, social norms, and perceived behavioral control to increase social entrepreneurship tendencies.

Social Entrepreneurship : Wujud Kemaslahatan Umat Melalui Program Kewirausahaan Santri Sebagai Upaya Membangun Generasi Robbani

Entrepreneurship education is a systematic effort to foster students' entrepreneurial spirit. This is expected to be a solution so that graduates can create jobs and reduce unemployment. However, the facts show that the solution has not been able to solve the people's social problems.. Facts in the field of these facilities can not fully be a solution in tackling the social problems of the people. Imam Syafei Integrated Islamic Boarding School in overcoming this problem seeks entrepreneurship education on a social entrepreneurial approach that emphasizes efforts to spread kindness and help in helping people's social problems. This study aims to analyze the form of community benefit through social entrepreneurship programs at the Imam Syafi'I Integrated Islamic Boarding School in Batam. This research uses qualitative methods and tests the validity of the data by using the triangulation technique. This research shows that in achieving the vision of the institution, namely forming a generation of Rabbani through the concept of social entrepreneurship, it is implemented guided by the elements of social entrepreneurship, namely Social value, Innovation, Civil society, and economic activity. This element is adapted in order to achieve the goal of social entrepreneurship, which is to provide benefits to many people which is actually in accordance with the concept of Islamic economics.

Schaduf: adding a splash of greenery to grim cities

Learning outcomes The case covers several topics such as social entrepreneurship, social innovation, green startups, their marketing and growth. The learning outcomes are as follows: identify the characteristics of social entrepreneurs; learn about the concept of social innovation, its challenges and opportunities; apply the concepts environmental sustainability to possible growth strategies; and evaluate the different growth opportunities available to the company in the region. Case overview/synopsis The case tells the story of a recently established technology and agriculture startup, Schaduf, founded in Egypt. Their concept mixes tradition with technology to improve the quality of life for city dwellers. Research and development (R&D) plays a big role in this company’s success. Schaduf uses the concepts of soilless farming to grow rooftop crops for low-income households. The company also provides aesthetic solutions for businesses and homes to increase their green spaces. Driven by a desire to transform the monochrome city to a green paradise, two Egyptian entrepreneurs founded Schaduf, an urban micro-farming and eco-friendly venture. The founders of the startup, brothers Sherif and Tarek Hosny, are in the process of expanding their business. They are faced by the dilemma of staying true to their original business concept in developing markets or pursuing other lucrative ventures in more affluent economies. This case offers learners insight into the growth strategy of a social enterprise that relies heavily on R&D to stay ahead of the game. Learners should evaluate the different growth strategies available to the company. Evaluation of Women's Empowerment in a Community-Based Human Papillomavirus Self-Sampling Social Entrepreneurship Program (Hope Project) in Peru: A Mixed-Method Study.

IntroductionUnderstanding community women's relational and financial empowerment in social entrepreneurship could be the key to scaling up community-based human papillomavirus (HPV) self-sampling programs in low- and middle-income countries. The Hope Project, social entrepreneurship in Peru, trains women (Hope Ladies) to promote HPV self-sampling among other women in their communities. This study aims to evaluate the Hope Ladies' relational and financial empowerment after participating in the program.Materials and MethodsWe evaluated the Hope Ladies' experiences of empowerment in social entrepreneurship using a parallel convergent mixed methods design. The Hope Ladies participated in semi-structured in-depth interviews (n = 20) and an eight-questions five-point Likert scale survey that evaluated their relational (n = 19)/financial (n = 17) empowerment. The interview and the survey questions were developed using three empowerment frameworks: Kabeer's conceptual framework, International Center for Research on Women's economic empowerment indicators, and the Relational Leadership Theory. Deductive content analysis was used to evaluate the interviews with pre-determined codes and categories of empowerment. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the survey results. Qualitative and quantitative data were integrated through a cross-case comparison of emergent themes and corresponding survey responses during the results interpretation.ResultsAll Hope Ladies reported experiencing increased empowerment in social entrepreneurship. Interviews: The women reported challenges and improvement in three categories of empowerment: (1) resources (balancing between household and Hope Lady roles, recognition from the community as a resource, camaraderie with other Hope Ladies); (2) agency (increased knowledge about reproductive health, improved confidence to express themselves, and ability to speak out against male-dominant culture); and (3) achievement (increased economic assets, improved ability to make financial decisions, and widened social network and capital, and technology skills development). Survey: All (100%) agreed/totally agreed an increase in social contacts, increased unaccompanied visits to a healthcare provider (86%), improved confidence in discussing reproductive topics (100%), improved ability to make household decisions about money (57% pre-intervention vs. 92% post-intervention).ConclusionsThe Hope Ladies reported improved relational and financial empowerment through participating in community-based social entrepreneurship. Future studies are needed to elucidate the relationship between empowerment and worker retention/performance to inform the scale-up of HPV self-sampling social entrepreneurship programs.

Application of the business incubation model to social entrepreneurship programs: a case study of extreme poverty in Brebes district

The phenomenon of social entrepreneurship had grown rapidly along with poverty alleviation efforts. The Director General of Social Empowerment of the Ministry of Social Affairs seeks to develop innovative poverty reduction programs by carrying out social empowerment efforts through the Social Entrepreneurship Program (Prokus) collaboration with the Pusat Inkubator Bisnis LPPM UNSOED. This research’s aims were: 1) Identify the KPM profile of the Social Entrepreneurship Program in Brebes Regency, 2) Find out the pattern of incubation for the Social Entrepreneurship Program in Brebes Regency. Qualitative analysis was used in this study. The sampling method was carried out census on 300 KPM spread over 38 villages or sub districts in Brebes Regency. From this research, it shows that 94.3% of KPM ran a business in the Agribusiness sector, as much as 96.5% use family labor, the length of business that has been run for more than 5 years is 59.7%, the income per day below IDR 50,000 was 93%. Business incubation assistance can help increase KPM graduations. The assistance includes financial literacy, Business Model Canvas (BMC) training, Good Food Processing Practice training and packaging techniques, online marketing, product branding, business model development and networking.
