Policy Design for Guidance and Development of Micro, Small and Medium Industries in Lubuklinggau City

This paper aims to describe the challenges and proposed strategies and policies for the Development of Micro, Small and Medium Industries in Lubuklinggau City. This research design is descriptive qualitative, data collection is done through four steps namely; observation, semi-structured interviews, documentation and conducting FGDs. Data analysis consists of two main sub-processes: (1) data reduction and pattern identification, and (2) conclusion drawing and conclusion presentation. The results of the study concluded that there are challenges faced in the activities of Guidance and Development of Micro, Small and Medium Industries in Lubuklinggau City to develop five leading sectors namely; wholesale and retail trade sector, transportation and trade sector, accommodation and eating and drinking sector, real estate sector, corporate services sector, and health services sector. Pentahelix Model Design was designed by the Lubuklinggau City Government to organize the Guidance and Development of Micro, Small and Medium Industries by involving five elements namely academics, business, community, government, and media.

Measuring the forest-based bioeconomy in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Finland

ABSTRACT This paper aims to present an input-output model of the forest-based bioeconomy, enabling insight into its contribution to total gross value added (GDP), employment, and CO2 emissions in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Finland. To quantify this contribution, the paper utilizes input-output tables of the four countries. The forest-based bioeconomy includes forestry, the processing of forestry products (forward linkages), and the direct and indirect use of inputs (backward linkages) from forestry and processing industries. Our analysis reveals that while forestry itself is a small industry, contributing minimally to GDP (ranging from 0.40% in Lithuania to 1.90% in Finland), and the forest-based bioeconomy is considerably larger. For instance, its contribution to GDP ranges from 3.59% in Lithuania to 7.22% in Estonia. Moreover, the forestry-based bioeconomy exhibits negative net CO2 emissions, primarily due to CO2 sequestration by forest lands and harvested wood products. Despite the substantial negative CO2 emissions associated with forestry activities, without sequestration, the forestry-based bioeconomy's share in total emissions ranges from 5.14% in Lithuania to 14.88% in Finland.

Micro and Small Enterprises’ Export Competencies and Cooperation in Indonesia

Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have an important role in Indonesia to play not only as a source of employment but also growth of gross domestic product (GDP) and exports, specially manufactured goods such as garments, food, footwear, electronics, and crafts. To support MSME exports, the Indonesian government hopes to build stronger collaboration with them. Many journal articles regarding exports of MSMEs have been executed in developing countries. However, no research has been conducted concerning the cooperative role of MSMEs in supporting their exports. Therefore, this descriptive study filled the gap by analyzing the cooperation of MSMEs in supporting their exports in Indonesia by analyzing secondary data from the 2019 Profile of Micro and Small Industries (MSIs) in the Manufacturing Industry from the Indonesian Statistics (BPS) and online database from the Indonesian Minister of Cooperative and Small and Medium Enterprise. Although the data does not provide further information regarding how many MSEs are members of cooperatives who export, the scatter plot in this study shows that there is a positive relationship between the number of MSEs who export and the number of MSEs who are members of cooperatives. Even though other factors had a stronger influence on export competencies, cooperatives still supported MSEs to export their goods. This study contributes to more substantial empirical evidence on the relationship between cooperatives and MSMEs in Indonesia and developing countries.

Mamdani's Fuzzy Logic-Based Tapioca Optimal Production Amount Prediction System

This research focuses on the imbalance between supply and demand in the tapioca industry, especially on the scale of Small and Medium Industries (SMI). Such challenges involve price fluctuations and lack of efficiency in determining the optimal production amount. Using fuzzy logic as an artificial intelligence method, this research aims to develop a system for predicting the optimal amount of tapioca production that can increase efficiency, reduce waste of raw materials and energy, and stabilize prices. The data used in this study was obtained through interviews with resource persons who are involved in the field of tapioca SMI. Furthermore, the data was processed using the Mamdani Fuzzy Inference System method. The results showed that in the case of production when demand is 400 kg and cassava availability is 2000 kg, the optimal production amount of tapioca is 630 kg. This value is also consistent when proven using the Matlab R2015a application. This shows that the model can be relied upon in determining the decision on the amount of tapioca production by considering demand factors and raw material availability.

This quantitative research aims to determine how the ability to compile financial statements, financial literacy, and financial technology affects MSMEs. The main data for this study came from questionnaires, research instruments. MSME owners who live in Matraman District and are registered with the East Jakarta Small and Medium Enterprises Cooperative Trade Industry Office (Sudin PPKUKM) are the subjects of this study. This study gathered 59 MSMEs using the Roscoe method. To analyze the data, multiple linear analysis was carried out using the SPSS program version 26, and from the results of the analysis it can be concluded that the variable ability to compile reports does not affect the performance of MSMEs, financial literacy does not affect the performance of MSMEs, and financial technology does not affect the performance of MSMEs

Urgent needs for second life using and recycling design of wasted electric vehicles (EVs) lithium-ion battery: a scientometric analysis

Currently, lithium-ion batteries are increasingly widely used and generate waste due to the rapid development of the EV industry. Meanwhile, how to reuse “second life” and recycle “extracting of valuable metals” of these wasted EVBs has been a hot research topic. The 4810 relevant articles from SCI and SSCI Scopus databases were obtained. Scientometric analysis about second life using and recycling methodologies of wasted EVBs was conducted by VOSviewer, Pajek, and Netdraw. According to analytical results, the research of second life using and recycling mythologies has been growing and the expected achievement will continue to increase. China, Germany, the USA, Italy, and the UK are the most active countries in this field. Tsinghua University in China, “Fraunhofer ISI, Karlsruhe” in Germany, and “Polytechnic di Torino” in Italy are the most productive single and collaborative institutions. The journals SAE technical papers and World Electric Vehicle Journal have the highest publication and citations than other journals. Chinese author “Li Y” has the highest number of 36 publications, and his papers were cited 589 times by other authors. By analyzing the co-occurrence and keywords, energy analysis, second life (stationary using, small industry), and treatment methods, (hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgical, electrochemical, bio-metallurgical) were the hot research topics. The S-curve from the article indicates hydrometallurgical and bio-metallurgical methods are attached with great potential in the near future. Further, different treatment methodologies are observed especially advanced techniques in hydrometallurgical, and spent medium bioleaching techniques in bio-metallurgical are good, economically cheap, has low CO2 emission, environmentally friendly, and has high recovery rate. Finally, this research provides information on second life use and top recycling methodology opportunities for future research direction for researchers and decision-makers who are interested in this research.

Product Design of Vegetable Floss Made from Kluwih (Artocarpus camansi) Fruit

Abstract Increasing awareness of health risks encourages the development of plant-based products to replace the animal products. One of the popular snack foods is floss made from beef or chicken meat. Vegetable floss is a potential product to develop for vegetarian or kids. This study aims to provide a product design of vegetable floss made from kluwih fruit starts from formulation, characterization, scale up in small scale industry, include factory layout, calculation of cost of goods sold as well as business development model that was suitable for vegetable floss market. Notably, this study aims to make vegetable floss without using garlic or shallots in the seasoning, distinguishing it from the previous research of vegetable floss. Human-Centered Design used to match the product with the consumer’s expectations. The vegetable floss formulation and production process were successfully defined after several iteration. The best results had the characteristics of brown color, fibrous, light, and acceptable tastes. The floss had water, ash, protein, fat and carbohydrate contents of 6.05%; 2.29%; 2.07%; 27.80% and 61.79%, respectively, and organoleptic quality of its color and flavor were in the like category. Small scale production was planned with the capacity of 300 kg kluwih fruits per month using a series of machine for peeling, shredding, seasoning preparation, boiling, mixing, frying, oil draining, and packaging. Factory required a building area of 92.31 m2. The cost of goods sold was set at IDR 32,178.8 for 150 g aluminum foil pouch and IDR 12,534.6 for 50 g plastic jar packaging. Business Model Canvas showed the overall business activity of vegetable floss products. Based on the SWOT analysis and matrix, there were 12 alternative strategies that have an effect on improving the element of key partners, key activities, value propositions, customer relationship, customer segments, channels, and revenue streams.

This study delves into the assessment of entrepreneurial sentiment towards the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and its impact on Eastern Uttar Pradesh (U.P.). Entrepreneurship plays a pivotal role in economic development, particularly in regions like the Eastern U.P., which are characterized by diverse socio-economic challenges. SIDBI, established as a specialized financial institution for SME promotion, offers a range of financial and non-financial support to entrepreneurs across India. However, the perception of entrepreneurs towards SIDBI's activities in Eastern U.P. remains underexplored. This study employs a mixed-method approach, incorporating quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews, to evaluate entrepreneurs' awareness, utilization, and perception of SIDBI's initiatives. The findings aim to shed light on the effectiveness of SIDBI's interventions, the challenges faced by entrepreneurs, and opportunities for enhancing support mechanisms. Ultimately, this research seeks to inform policymakers, financial institutions, and entrepreneurial support organizations about the ground realities and aspirations of entrepreneurs in the Eastern U.P., thereby facilitating informed decision-making and fostering inclusive growth.

Entrepreneurial orientation and funding decisions on the financial performance of small and medium industries

Small and Medium Industries play an important role in relation to economic growth in Asian countries. The empowerment of SMEs is very strategic because of its great potential in driving economic activities, as well as being a source of income in improving community welfare (Sum, et al, 2004). To explore the factors affecting the sustainability of SMEs, the study conducted a systematic literature review of relevant articles published between 2015 and 2023, focusing on entrepreneurial orientation and financial performance. The findings of this study reveal that the ability of a company's entrepreneurial orientation has a significant influence on financial performance. Companies with a high level of entrepreneurial orientation tend to innovate products consistently, dare to consider business risks, and act proactively against possible environmental changes. Companies with a high level of entrepreneurial orientation are always trying to find new opportunities and strengthen their competitive position in carrying out business activities in the market. Moreover, it emphasizes that the development of the concept of entrepreneurial orientation is indispensable in SMEs. This is important because the personal attributes of the owners that make up the entrepreneurial orientation have a strong influence on financial performance. The dimensions of entrepreneurial orientation can be reflected in attitudes and behaviors, such as autonomy, risk, innovation, and aggressive competition by placing personal attributes on business owners. Here, entrepreneurial orientation is directly related and has a strong impact in encouraging companies to perform better.

Asymmetric effects of exchange rate volatility on Turkish-German commodity trade

This study investigates the asymmetric effects of exchange rate volatility on Turkish-German commodity trade using annual time-series data from 1980 to 2022. We analyze 90 industries exporting from Turkey to Germany and 114 industries importing from Germany to Turkey. The empirical results of the nonlinear ARDL model show that the volatility of the real lira-euro exchange rate had short-run asymmetric effects on trade flows for 60 (86) Turkish export (import) industries, which persisted for 46 (52) Turkish export (import) industries in the long-run. The industry-specific results show that an increase (a decrease) in lira-euro volatility increases Turkish exports (imports) to (from) Germany mostly for both small and large industries. The study suggests that export and import sectors that benefit from lira-euro volatility may consider expanding their production and trade activities, while sectors adversely affected by volatility may need to explore alternative strategies. This study highlights the importance of considering exchange rate volatility's asymmetric effects on trade between Turkey and Germany, emphasizing the varying implications across specific industries. The findings contribute valuable insights for policymakers and industry stakeholders in understanding how exchange rate fluctuations impact bilateral trade dynamics.

Performance Assessment of A Developed Rolling Mill

Rolling of metals has found applications in automotive, construction, agriculture, railroads, housing, metal furniture making, home appliances, electronic cabinetry, pipes and tubing etc. These have as well contributed to human and environmental sustainability. Nevertheless, the applications of metal rolling processes and machines have not been adequately harnessed in our locality due to unavailability of the rolling machine in small scale industries, laboratories and workshops in institutions of learning in the region. Annealing heat treatment was carried out on a mild steel round bar of 50 mm diameter and length of 200 samples. The samples were charged into an SXL muffle furnace with an annealing temperature of 950oC. The mechanical properties and the microstructure of the rolled mild carbon steel were evaluated. The results of the performance evaluation of the machine through assessment of the metallurgical characteristics of the rolled products from the machine and assessment of mechanical properties such as tensile strength and hardness of the rolled products from the machine showed an increase in the tensile strength from 250.85 MPa to 258.85 MPa, an increase in the ultimate tensile strength from 535.88 MPa to 540.05 MPa, an increase in the hardness from 140 HV to 145 HV, and a decrease in the percentage ductility of the mild carbon steel from 56% to 51%. Also, the optical micrograph of the rolled samples shows a coarse microstructure of grain refinement from slipping and pilling of dislocations.

The study outlines the core challenges faced by small and medium-sized manufacturing industries, such as financing difficulties, lagging risk management and operational inefficiencies. The core components of the smart financial system are detailed, including functional modules such as automated credit assessment, supply chain finance optimisation, cost prediction models and personalised insurance product recommendations. This paper proposes strategies to address data security, technology acceptance, and regulatory compliance issues that may be encountered during the implementation process, and emphasises the importance of building a good ecosystem between the government, financial institutions, and technology enterprises to comprehensively support the intelligent transformation and sustainable development of the small and medium-sized manufacturing industry.

Application of Kaizen Principles to a Small Scale Industry in India

This case-study presents the application of Kaizen concept to Chempromech Engineers Pvt. Ltd. in Butribori, Maharashtra, India. The work carried out focuses on Kaizen approach to the Plant Layout of the industry to make it more efficient and desirable to work in as well as gives a formula to the industry to calculate its production in kg/hr theoretically. Chempromech Engineers Pvt. Ltd. Is a small scale industry present in the Butibori MIDC area in Nagpur, Maharashtra which specializes in manufacturing of circlip washer wires and washers. Being a small-scale industry, it is faced with problems pertaining to limited workspace, so a new layout is designed which helps groups machines based in their product type and thus freeing out space for future expansion. Potensi Dan Prospek Industri Gula Aren Di Indonesia

Palm sugar produced from sugar palm plants is an alternative sugar to granulated (refinery) sugar produced from sugar cane plants. Recently, more and more consumers are switching from granulated sugar to palm sugar. However, because entrepreneurs are still traditional, efforts to meet changing consumer tastes still have many obstacles. This research aims to (1) determine the potential of sugar palm plants as; (2) analyze the prospects for the Indonesian small palm sugar industry in the future. The method for determining the research location was carried out purposively, namely the Republic of Indonesia, which is one of the largest palm sugar producers in the world. This research was carried out from March 2024 to May 2024. This research was carried out using a survey approach and used secondary data, especially BPS publication data. To find out the prospects for palm sugar in Indonesia, it is explained using simple linear regression. Meanwhile, the analysis of plant potential is explained descriptively qualitatively and quantitatively. The research results show that sugar palm cultivation in Indonesia has great potential, especially because sugar palm plants do not require complicated growing requirements. Almost all areas in Indonesia can be planted with palm trees. The availability of land in Indonesia is quite extensive, has hydrological and conservative functions. There is a traditional farming culture in cultivating palm sugar. The results of regression analysis using time series data from 1992 to 2020 show that the development of land area, which is a manifestation of farmers' response to demand for palm sugar, shows an increasing trend. With ß of 1,046.5, it shows that on average every year there is an increase in the area of ​​sugar palm plantations of 1,046.5. Meanwhile, from the production aspect, the results of the regression analysis also show a significant increasing trend with ß of 2,575.4, which shows that from the production aspect there has been a significant increase in production, namely 2,575.4 tonnes each year. Furthermore, it can be concluded that the potential for palm tree development is quite good and the prospects for the palm sugar industry in Indonesia are quite bright.

Utilization of Areca leaf residues for sustainable production of greyboard

This study primarily focused on the production of greyboard using waste materials from small scale industries, and specifically using Areca leaf waste fibers as a sustainable and environmentally friendly resource. Areca leaf waste fibers were employed as the primary raw material for greyboard manufacturing. The resulting greyboard exhibited commendable properties, including a tear index of 7.53 mN·m2/g, tensile index of 18.34·N·m/g (i.e., breaking length of 1870 m), burst factor of 9.24 (gf/cm2)/(g/m2) and stiffness factor of 33.1. This greyboard was created through a series of steps, including hydrothermal treatment of the material at 155°C and mechanical pulping refinement. The produced greyboard met the specifications outlined in the Indian Standard 2617 (1967) for greyboard. The key objective of this work was to leverage agricultural waste resources to develop a chemical-free greyboard, resulting in reduced waste disposal in open fields and a decrease in chemical usage within the greyboard manufacturing industry. Various characterization techniques, including field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), attenuated total reflection•Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) analysis, and X-ray diffraction (XRD), were used to assess the fiber quality, including aspects such as functional groups, morphology, and crystallinity for the materials used in the manufacturing process.

The impact of macroprudential policies on industrial growth

This paper analyzes the causal impact of macroprudential policies on growth, using industry-level data for 89 countries for the period 1990 to 2021. The small industry size creates exogenous identification, avoiding reverse-causality. I find macroprudential tightening measures impact manufacturing growth negatively, but only for industries with high external finance dependence. This effect is stronger during banking crises, higher growth periods and for advanced economies. The effect is weaker during periods of high private credit growth. Prudential policies implemented before the pandemic mitigated the fall in growth. Growth effects on externally dependent industries are economically sizeable and can persist over three years.

Introduction. The competitiveness of industry in modern conditions is carried out through scientific and technological development. High-tech companies play a key role in solving the main tasks of increasing the competitiveness of Russian economy in accordance with global challenges and priorities of Russia’s scientific and technological development. Theoretical analysis. High-tech production, Industry 4.0 technologies and technological entrepreneurship in modern economy are the main actors in achieving technological sovereignty, the transition to economic growth and technological support for the sustainable development of Russian production systems. The article examines the role of technological entrepreneurship in the transition of industrial enterprises to Industry 4.0 technologies. Empirical analysis. An innovative development dynamics analysis in Russia and foreign countries is carried out, a startup studio is considered as a tool for the development of technological entrepreneurship, as well as the practice of its implementation in Russia and the USA. Results. Based on the results of the study, a number of proposals for the development of technological entrepreneurship in the small and medium-sized enterprise industry sector were formulated and justified.
