Effect of Different Growing Media and Polybag Sizes on Seeds Germination & Root System of Rough Lemon (Citrus jambhiri Lush.) in Nursery Condition

Aims: The study aimed to evaluate the different growing media & polybag size for seedling growth of rough lemon rootstock. Study Design: The experiment used a Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with three replications. Place and Duration of Study: The study "Effect of Growing Media and Polybag Size on Rough Lemon Seedling Growth" took place in an insect-proof net house at CCS Haryana Agricultural University during the 2021-2022 academic year. Methodology: It comprising of 30 treatment combination i.e., ten different growing media: T1: garden soil; T2: soil: sand (1:1); T3: soil: sand: leafmold (1:1:1); T4: soil: cocopeat (1:1); T5: sand: cocopeat (1:1); T6: soil: sand: cocopeat (1:1:1); T7: soil: FYM (1:1); T8: sand: FYM (1:1); T9: soil: sand: FYM (1:1:1); T10: soil: sand: FYM: cocopeat (1:1:1:1), and the polybags S1: large (30 x 18 cm), S2: medium (21 x 18 cm) & S3: small size (17 x 16 cm) bags. Results: The study found that adding cocopeat to growing media (T4, T5, T6) resulted in earlier germination and higher rates (87-89%) Whereas, T4 to T10 media consists of either FYM, cocopeat for both resulted into more germination 87-89% as compared to controls (T1, T2, T3). The most of the root growth parameters i.e., diameter of tap root(2.45mm), fresh root weight (4.63g) & dry root weight (1.21g) & root: shoot ratio (0.61) improved with the media sand: FYM, soil: FYM, sand: soil: FYM, sand: soil: FYM: cocopeat in equal proportion. However, when media supplemented with cocopeat (T4, T5 & T6 ) also showed appreciable results as compared to soil, sand: soil & soil: sand: leafmold. However, sand: FYM, sand: cocopeat treatments were best in respect of number of primary roots (61.22), root volume (6.44ml). Whereas, sand: soil showed very poor results in all growth aspects. Among polybags sizes, large size (30 x 18cm) bags performed best in most of the germination & root growth parameters. Conclusion: Media enriched with organic matter outperformed sole media across all parameters, while larger polybags produced significantly better results than medium and small sizes.

Exploring Polybag Size, Nursery Mixtures and Rootstocks for Optimizing Lasoda (Cordia myxa L.) Nursery Techniques

Background: Lasoda (Cordia myxa L.) is lesser utilized fruit plant species suitable for growing in large parts of arid and semi-arid regions of India. Besides the economic importance of its fruits in the vegetable and pickle industry, this species is also known for ethnomedicinal properties in different plant parts. In order to utilize it to its fullest potential, standardization of nursery technology for mass multiplication by vegetative propagation method is a necessary step. With the above background in the view, an experiment was conducted to see the effect of polybag size, nursery mixture and rootstock on seed germination, growth of seedlings after germination, budding success and growth of budded plants. Methods: The study was conducted during June-September, 2020. The treatment comprised of two polybag sizes, six nursery media compositions and two kinds of rootstocks. The observations were recorded on seed germination, seedling growth, days to bud sprout after budding, budding success and shoot length and diameter after 30 days of budding. Result: The main effects of nursery mixture revealed that plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, shoot length and shoot diameter after budding were significantly affected by nursery mixture composition. The highest plant height (29.53 cm) recorded in the M4 mixture was significantly higher over M1, M2 and M3 but the differences were non-significant when compared with M5 and M6. A similar trend was also recorded in the case of stem diameter and number of leaves which showed significantly higher values in M4, M5 and M6 as compared to M1, M2 and M3. The highest shoot length (8.34 cm) and shoot diameter (3.40 mm) were recorded in M5 and M4 which were significantly higher than most of other media levels.

Effect of Potting Mixture and Polybag Size on Growth and Flowering of Asiatic Lily (Lilium asiaticum var. Nashville) under Protected Condition

An experiment on recognizing the significance of cultivating lilies under polyhouse conditions, this study contributes the valuable insights to the cultivation practices of Asiatic lilies, focusing on the pivotal roles of potting mixture composition and polybag size. Healthy bulbs of each cultivar were freshly planted in various media compositions in different polybag size within a protected environment. From the present investigation, it is concluded that the treatment 12 x 12 polybag size combined with Garden soil + Vermicompost + Cocopeat (1:1:2) was found in superior among other treatments in terms of plant height (69.30cm), leaf length (8.60 cm), leaf width (3.03 cm), number of flower buds/plant (4.60), days to appearance of first flower bud (40.10), flower bud length (8.43 cm), stalk length (68.15 cm), weight of bulb per plant (64.75g), self life of flower spike (15.22 days), number of flowers per 250 m2 (10032.75). The study concluded that, the lilies readily respond to various medium for cultivation and 12 x 12 Polybag combined with potting mixture Garden soil + Vermicompost + Cocopeat (1:1:2) observed to be the best for plant growth and flowering of Asiatic lily under protected condition.

Biomass Production and Partitioning Response of Coffee (Arabica Coffea L.) Seedlings to Different Poly-Bag Size and Biochar Based Media Preparations

Nursery experiment was conducted at Awada Agricultural Research Sub-Center, to investigate dry matter production and it’s partitioning into above and below ground parts of Arabica coffee seedlings treated under different ratio of biochar to top soil based media preparations and different poly bag size used to raise the seedlings. The treatment combinations with four levels of pot size (width by height) (7cm x13cm, 10cm x 16cm, 13cmx19cm and 16cmx 22cm) and five levels of biochar to top soil ratio (0:1, 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4) by (v/v) were used for the treatment were factorially combined and laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Results showed that the main effect of poly bag size and biochar to top soil ratio of media preparation were significantly (P<0.01) affect leaf, shoot, root and total dry matter production and shoot to root ratio of coffee seedlings. The highest total dry weight (6.83g) was recorded from pot size of 16x22cm interacted with one to three (1:3) biochar to topsoil ratio followed by (6.57g) harvested from pot size of 13cmx19cm interacted with one to four (1:4) biochar to top soil ratio. Similarly, the root to shoot ratio of coffee seedlings was significantly (P = 0.017) affected by the combined effects of the two factors. Pot size 13cmx19cm interacted with one to four (1:4) biochar to top soil ratio exhibited the maximum (0.272g/g) RSR as compared to rest of growing media and all pot size interacted with one to four (1:4) biochar to top soil ratio have statically higher value similar to the largest value above mentioned parameters except shoot to root ratio. Thus, it is concluded that vigorous coffee seedlings with high dry matter content and optimum root to shoot distribution for better seedling production can be produced by optimum poly bag size of 13cmx19cm interacted with one to three (1:3) biochar to topsoil. But, further investigations should be continued under different media preparation for wider opportunities at different area coffee growing areas.

Growth and Survival of Chilgoza Seedlings as Influenced by Different Types and Size of Sowing Media

Chilgoza pine (Pinus gerardiana Wall.) is an important but endangered tree species in Afghanistan. Due to poor natural regeneration, seed-related dormancy and anthropogenic factors, the IUCN put this species on the red list. Therefore, this study was undertaken to investigate the effect of growing medium and polybag sizes on seedling growth and survivability. In this study, four growing media of soil (So), compost (Co), forest soil (Fs) and sand (Sa), viz., M1 (So + Co + Fs); M2 (Fs + Co + Sa); M3 (So + Fs + Sa); and M4 (Sa + Co + Fs) and three polybag sizes including P1 (16 cm×16 cm), P2 (18 cm×18 cm), and P3 (21 cm×26 cm) were used and arranged in the frame of 4×3 factorial design to assess their effects on seedling growth and survivability. The results revealed that among different growing media treatments, higher seedling growth parameters and survival rate percentage were observed on treatment M4 (Sand + Compost + Forest Soil). Seedling growth parameters and survivability were significantly affected by polybag size, and the highest seedling growth parameters and survival rate were obtained for Large Polybag size (P3).

PENGARUH UKURAN POLYBAG TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN VEGETATIF SAWI PAKCOY (BRASSICA RAPA L.)

Horticultural crops are very popular plants. One of the leading horticultural products in the agricultural sector in Indonesia is vegetable crops. Green mustard pakcoy (Brassica rapa L.) is a vegetable plant that is very easy to breed in cold and hot areas, at an altitude of 500 m to 1200 m above sea level. Limited land for planting mustard pakcoy (Brassica rapa L.), for daily needs can be planted in polybags. The size of the polybag used needs to be considered. The experiment was carried out in a green house at KWT Jeruk Manis on Jl Dukuh Saleh Pejeruk Ampenan. The variables observed included: average plant height, average number of leaves, average leaf width and fresh plant weight. The measurement data were analyzed using analysis of variance (CRD) and DMRT further test. From the results of the analysis, the experimental results showed that the size of a small polybag 15 x 20 cm had a significant effect on the observed variables, namely plant height (cm), number of leaves (strands), leaf width, and mustard greens

Respon Pemberian Pupuk Kotoran Ayam dengan Arang Sekam Teradap Pertumbuhan Tanaman Nilam (Pogostemon Cablin Bent) di bawah Tegakan Tanaman Kayu Manis

Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin, benth) is one of the leading national commodities in the form of Patchouli oil. Indonesia is a tropical country, has high potential in the production of Patchouli plants. In order to obtain high- quality patchouli plants and high production, it is necessary to fertilize the planting medium, using a mixture of chicken manure and rice husk charcoal as organic fertilizer can increase the growth of patchouli (Pogostemon cablin Bent). The purpose of this study was to find out, the dose of chicken manure mixed with rice husk charcoal which could provide the best growth of patchouli plants under stands of cinnamon plants. This study used a randomized block design (RBD) with 4 treatments and 6 replications so that 24 plants were obtained for each treatment. Polybag size 15 x 20 cm, with a distance between treatments of 1 meter. Parameters observed were number of leaves, plant height, total leaf area, herb production and essential oil content. The data collected was then analyzed using the DMRT advanced test. Supporting data in the form of initial soil analysis, analysis of a mixture of chicken manure and rice husk charcoal. Doses of a mixture of chicken manure and rice husk charcoal gave a significantly different effect on the growth of patchouli cuttings under cinnamon stands. The conclusion of this study is that the application of various doses of a mixture of Chicken Manure and Rice Husk Charcoal can increase patchouli plant growth, herb dry weight and essential oil content better. The best dosage recommendation is the administration of P1 treatment, namely 100 grams of Chicken Manure Fertilizer and 50 grams of Rice Husk Charcoal Focus 10.

Water Productivity In Drip Irrigation System For Hydroponic Caisim Plant (Brassica chinensis var. Parachinensis) With Various Polybag Sizes And Different Planting Media

his research was conducted in a plastic house at the Lampung State Polytechnic from June to October 2022. The study was a factorial experiment consisting of two factors with a randomized block design. The first factor is the type of planting media with 4 kinds, such as cocopeat, husk charcoal, sand, and soil. The second factor is the polybag size, such as small, medium, and large sizes. Each factor or treatment was repeated 3 times. The tools and materials used are drip irrigation, digital scales, polybags, pearl NPK fertilizer and caisim seeds. The objectives of the study were (1) to measure the growth and production of caisim plants on various planting media and polybag sizes, (2) to measure the amount of irrigation water used, and (3) to calculate the water productivity of caisim plants. The observed variables included crop production, amount of water use, and water productivity. Data analysis using ANOVA at the 5% significant difference test level. The results showed that there was no interaction between the type of planting media and the size of polybags, but the response in the treatment between types of planting media and between polybag sizes was significantly different. The type of media significantly affected the number of leaves, plant height, production, and water productivity of hydroponic caisim plants using a drip irrigation system. Polybag size did not significantly affect the number of leaves, plant height, production, and water productivity of hydroponic caisim plants using a drip irrigation system. In hydroponic caisim cultivation using drip irrigation, cocopeat growing media gave an average number of 9.8 leaves, plant height 34.4 cm, production 97.1 g, and water productivity 6.18 kg/m3 and was not significantly different from soil medium.

KAJIAN MEDIA TANAM DAN PEMBERIAN PUPUK P DAN K TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN DAN HASIL TANAMAN TOMAT (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.)

Low soil fertility rates and not yet intensive crop cultivation have an impact on the declining trend on tomato production in the eastern multiplication. Low productivity of tomatoes due to low quality of seedlings and pest and disease attacks. Efforts to increase tomato production have been carried out, among others, by improving cultivation techniques, namely by improving the physical properties of the soil by adding organic materials and adding nutrients using inorganic fertilizers. The design of this study is; Complete randomized design with factorial analysis 2 x 4 and repetition as much as 3 times. In the first factor, the media mixture consists of 2 levels, namely T0 = Soil, T1 = Mixture of soil, manure, and chaff (2:1:1). The second factor is the combination of fertilizer K and P consists of 4 stages, namely: P0 = without fertilizer, P1 = 5gram KCL and 15grams SP-36, P2 = 10 grams KCL and 15 grams SP-36; P3 = 15 grams KCL and 15 grams SP-36. The number of polybags in the study is 24 with a per polybag size of 30 x 40 cm. The results showed the addition of manure and chaff gave clear results to the growth and production of tomatoes. The application of KCl and SP-36 fertilizers affect the high growth of plants but does not affect the production of tomato plants. Recommendations for the use of organic materials and KCL fertilizers, SP-36 is applied separately

Pengaruh Variasi Pupuk terhadap Pertumbuhan Benih Terung Hijau (Solanum melongena L.)

Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is a garden plant grown for its fruit. Some green eggplant farmers in West Lombok, use NPK fertilizer as the main choice to produce quality fruit, they never use organic fertilizer when planting green eggplant for fear that the size of the fruit produced is not as big as the fruit grown using NPK. Low quality green eggplants are rarely in demand by the public, so it will have an impact on decreasing selling prices in the market. This study aims to determine the effect of fertilizer variation on the growth of green eggplant (Solanum melongena L). This research is a true experiment that wants to see the growth of green eggplant plants given a variety of fertilizers. In this study using 3 treatments, namely PA (chicken manure + soil in a ratio of 2:1), PK (goat manure + soil in a ratio of 2:1), PN (NPK fertilizer 20 g given to each polybag size 2 kg). The results of the analysis from the table and the average diagram, the application of fertilizer variations showed that there were differences in the growth of green eggplant plants on the parameters of plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, number of flowers and number of fruit. The results of the ANOVA statistical test showed that there was an effect of fertilizer variation on the parameters of the number of leaves and the number of branches, but it was not significant on the parameters of plant height, number of flowers and number of green eggplant (Solanum melongena L.).

Influence of Polybag Size and Interval of Liquid Organic Fertilizer of Banana Stones on The Growth and Results of Chilli Variety

Masyarakat Indonesia akan merasa hambar jika makan tanpa sambal yang bahan bakunya adalah cabai sehingga masyarakat tetap mengkonsumsi cabai meskipun harganya mahal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh ukuran polibag dan interval pemberian pupuk organik cair batang pisang terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil cabai rawit varietas Dewata yang dibudidayakan secara organik dalam polibag. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok Lengkap (RAKL) dengan dua factor perlakuan. hasil penelitian menunjukan ukuran polibag berpengaruh sangat nyata terhadap parameter tinggi tanaman, berat brangkasan segar, berat brangkasan kering, jumlah buah merah, jumlah buah hijau dan berat buah hijau, dan tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap parameter jumlah bunga dan berat buah merah. Interval pemberian POC batang pisang berpengaruh sangat nyata pada parameter tinggi tanaman, berat brangkasan segar, berat brangkasan kering, jumlah bunga, jumlah buah merah, berat buah merah, jumlah buah hijau dan berat buah hijau. Tidak ada interaksi antara ukuran polibag dan interval pemberian POC batang pisang terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil tanaman cabai rawit (Capsicum frutescens.L) varietas Dewata.

Water Requirement Estimation of One-Whorl Rubber (Hevea brasiliensis Müll. Arg.) Planting Materials

Fulfilling water requirement is one of the important factors for a successful production of rubber tree planting materials. Research on the irrigation requirement for young rubber trees is crucial to determine the amount of water required for an optimum plant growth. The aim of this study was to determine the amount of water needed by one whorl rubber planting material to compensate the amount of evapotranspiration, as well as to estimate the crop coefficient value (kc). The research was conducted at the Indonesian Rubber Research Institute on July 2021. Daily evapotranspiration (ETc) of rubber planting materials of clone “PB 260”, “RRIC 100”, and “IRR 112” planted in polybag size 13 cm x 35 cm were measured by weighing the planting materials daily. Evapotranspiration for the reference crop was collected from the Indonesian Rubber Research Institute climatological station. Our study showed that the amount of water required by each rubber planting material was 92.21 mL per day per polybag when the mean of daily reference evapotranspiration (ETo) was 3.67 mm per day. Therefore, the crop coefficient (kc) of one whorl rubber planting material arranged sparsely was ± 0.32. This kc value can be used as a base to calculate water requirement of one whorl rubber planting material based on the daily reference evapotranspiration (ETo).

Combo nursery technique is a technique where seedlings/cuttings of Shorea leprosula, Gliricidia sepium, and Brachiaria decumbens grass were planted in one polybag to support mining reclamation. To reduce competition effects among the three species, optimum media and size of polybag need to be investigated. The objective of this experiment is to analyse the effect of size of polybag and media composition on the growth of S. leprosula, G. sepium, and B. decumbens grass in the combo nursery technique. The results showed no significant interaction effects between the composition of media and the size of polybag; however, media compositions of soil: compost (1:1) and (1:2), and the sizes of polybag 20 x 20 cm and 25 x 25 cm significantly eliminated competition and significantly increased the growth of S. leprosula and the number of tiller of B. decumbens grass.

The Selection of Nursery Polybag Size on Effect of Growth and Quality of Khaya Anthotheca (Meliaceae) Seedlings under Nursery Condition in Bangladesh

An experiment was conducted to observe the effect of polybag size on the growth and quality of Khaya anthotheca seedlings during September 2016 to June 2017 at the nursery of Silvicultural Research Division of Bangladesh Forest Research Institute. Three different polybag size such as T1 (15 cm×23 cm), T2 (13 cm×18 cm) and T3 (11 cm×15 cm) with four replications were used for the experiment. The experiment was designed in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four replications. Different sized polybags showed significant influence on survival percentage (T1-100%, T2-93.5%, T3-88%) and growth parameters (height, root collar diameter, leave number and root length) of the seedlings. The species grown in T1 size polybag was observed to be superior to other bag size. Dickson’s Quality index of seedlings raised in T1 size polybag was observed highest value which is the indicator of best quality seedlings. Therefore, the use of T1 poly bag size can be suggested for seedling production of K. anthotheca in the nursery.

Budi daya Terapung Tanaman Sawi Hijau dengan Perbedaan Dosis Pupuk NPK, Ukuran Polibag, dan Waktu Pemupukan

Cultivation of mustards green on floating raft is one of alternative cultivations which is applied by traditional farmers during flooding period in Riparian Wetland. The cultivation will increase Cropping Index and farmer’s income. The objective of this research is to evaluate growth and yield of mustards green on floating cultivation with the application of different NPK doses, polybag sizes, and fertilization times to find cultivation of mustards green which effective and efficient. This research was conducted on October 2016–February 2017 in Jakabaring Facility (104°46’44” E; 3°01’35” S) and Kimia Hasil Pertanian (LKHP) Laboratory, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Sriwijaya, Palembang. This research consisted of two steps. The first experiment used a completely randomized design with four doses of NPK (16:16:16) namely 0 (control), 5, 10, and 15 g plant-1. The second experiment used a Split Plot Design consisted of two factors namely polybag size (A1 and A2) and fertilization time (F1, F2, and F3). The result of the first experiment showed that utilization three doses of NPK significantly increased shoot length, number of leaves, and fresh weight compared control. The second experiment showed that polybag size and fertilization time did not significantly affect growth and yield parameters. Utilization of 5 g plant-1 of NPK on 1 week after transplanting (WAT) which used polybag size of 30 x 30 cm on growing media consisted of soil, manure, and rice husk (1:1:1/v:v:v) produced an effective and efficient cultivation of mustards green.
