Coherent Phonon Dynamics in Plasmonic Gold Tetrahedral Nanoparticle Ensembles.

Coherent phonon modes supported by plasmonic nanoparticles offer prospective applications in chemical and biological sensing. Whereas the characterization of these phonon modes often requires single-particle measurements, synthetic routes to narrow size distributions of nanoparticles permit ensemble investigations. Recently, the synthesis of highly monodisperse gold tetrahedral nanoparticles with tunable edge lengths and corner sharpnesses has been developed. Herein, we characterize a size series of these nanoparticles in colloidal dispersion via transient absorption spectroscopy to examine their mechanical and plasmonic responses upon photoexcitation. Oscillations of transient absorption signals are observed in the plasmon resonance and correspond to the lowest-order radial breathing modes of the nanoparticles, the frequencies of which are affected by the edge length and truncation of the corners. Homogeneous quality factor values ranging from 24 to 34 are observed for the oscillations that convey potential utility in mass-sensing and plasmon-exciton-coupling photonics schemes. Finite-difference time domain and finite element analysis calculations establish specific optically relevant phonon modes.

Application of Reduced Graphene Oxide-Zinc Oxide Nanocomposite in the Removal of Pb(II) and Cd(II) Contaminated Wastewater

Toxic metal wastewater is a challenge for exposed terrestrial and aquatic environments, as well as the recyclability of the water, prompting inputs for the development of promising treatment methods. Consequently, the rGO/ZnONP nanocomposite was synthesized at room temperature for four hours and was tested for the adsorption of cadmium and lead in wastewater. The optimized nanocomposite had the lowest band gap energy (2.69 eV), and functional group interactions were at 516, 1220, 1732, 3009, and 3460 cm−1. The nanocomposite showed good ZnO nanoparticle size distribution and separation on rGO surfaces. The nanocomposite’s D and G band intensities were almost the same, constituting the ZnO presence on rGO from the Raman spectrum. The adsorption equilibrium time for cadmium and lead was reached within 10 and 90 min with efficiencies of ~100%. Sips and Freundlich best fitted the cadmium and lead adsorption data (R2 ~ 1); therefore, the adsorption was a multilayer coverage for lead and a mixture of heterogenous and homogenous coverage for cadmium adsorption. Both adsorptions were best fitted by the pseudo-first-order model, suggesting the multilayer coverage dominance. The adsorbent was reused for three and seven times for cadmium and lead. The nanocomposite showed selectivity towards lead (95%) and cadmium (100%) in the interfering wastewater matrix. Conclusively, the nanocomposite may be embedded within upcoming lab-scale treatment plants, which could lead to further upscaling and it serving as an industrial wastewater treatment material.

Research on the preparation of cellulose nanocrystals from balsa wood using microwave-assisted synergistic deep eutectic solvent and H2O2 extraction

Utilizing natural balsa wood as the raw material, cellulose was prepared using microwave-assisted chlorocholine chloride/lactic acid deep eutectic solvents (DES) in synergy with H2O2, followed by further preparation of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) via ultrasound treatment. Initially, the optimal process for balsa wood cellulose preparation was explored through single-factor and response surface experiments involving microwave-assisted DES in synergy with H2O2 treatment. Subsequently, cellulose nanocrystals were prepared using ultrasound, and the resulting materials were characterized and analyzed for their chemical composition, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), nanoparticle size distribution, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis, and thermogravimetric-differential scanning calorimetry (TG-DSC). The results indicate that the yield of cellulose after microwave-assisted DES in synergy with H2O2 treatment can reach 42.96%. Furthermore, the cellulose nanocrystals obtained after ultrasound treatment exhibit a particle size ranging from 10 to 20 nm, with an average length of 515.9 nm, a crystallinity of 86.72%, and demonstrate good dispersion and thermal stability.

Gold nanoparticles biosynthesized from flavonoid extract of Hopea odorata leaves and their catalytic activity for 4-nitrophenol reduction

In this study, we employed a green synthesis approach to create gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) using flavonoid extracts from Hopea odorata (HO) leaves as both reducing and stabilizing agents. The conditions for flavonoid extraction in ethanol with the assistance of ultrasound were optimized. The flavonoid extract was then used to synthesize HO-AuNPs within 2h, with the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) band of HO-AuNPs appearing at 545nm in UV-Vis spectroscopy. Physicochemical properties of HO-AuNPs were characterized using techniques such as FTIR, DLS, zeta potential, x-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy. The results indicated a size distribution of nanoparticles ranging from 3 to 30nm, with a mean size of 13.5nm. The catalytic activity of AuNPs in the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NiP) into 4-aminophenol (4-AiP) was investigated, utilizing sodium borohydride as the reducing agent. Kinetic data revealed the efficient reduction of 4-NiP in the presence of HO-AuNPs.

Optimizing indoor air models through k-means clustering of nanoparticle size distribution data

Sectional physics-based aerosol models imply a computational effort that hinders their use in building digital twins, real-time predictive control, and computer-based iterative optimization versus black-box approaches. The innovation of this paper lies in the proposal of a novel systematic methodology to optimize the number of size bins in sectional reduced-order models for particle concentration simulations. This allows its application in indoor air quality management and overcomes generalizability and data-dependency issues of black-box models. This method, based on k-means clustering, aims to ensure precision when tackling relatively fast fine and ultrafine particle simulations targeting the reduction of time and resource consumption from experimentally-determined aerosol size distribution time series. Consequently, three tests were carried out using combustion aerosols inside a custom-designed emission chamber to simulate emission hotspots in non-commercial and occupational settings. 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-cluster classifications were evaluated for data coming from 13 particle size bins through silhouette analysis and the study of their temporal profiles. Results show that the 4-cluster classification summarizes the behavior of data in the 10–420 nm range, ensuing up to a 77 % improvement in the model's computational demand. Moreover, this method allows an accurate definition of the necessary size ranges to calculate nanoparticle concentrations inside the chamber and facilitates the interpretation of aerosol behavior and processes through the resulting clusters' temporal profiles.

Nanosilicon Stabilized With Ligands: Effect of High‐Energy Proton Beam on Luminescent Properties

ABSTRACTSilicon nanopowders with nitrogen heterocyclic carbene (NHC) and butyl as stabilizing ligands were synthesized by bottom‐up chemical methods. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used to obtain nanoparticle size distribution with 1.8–2.5‐nm average diameter. Optical characteristics (photoluminescence [PL] and infrared [IR] absorption spectra) of samples were investigated as fabricated and on different steps of irradiation by high‐energy 22.5‐MeV protons. The PL spectral changes are slightly different for two cases, but in general, we can see a decrease in luminescence amplitude with fluence growth up to 4·1014 cm−2, mainly for NHC‐stabilized nanosilicon. Main mechanisms of radiation‐induced changes in nanosilicon sample optical properties are discussed by the joint use of PL and IR spectra analysis.

Bi-reforming of model biogas to syngas over ultrasmall Ru/MgO nano-catalysts prepared via soft template-assisted mechanochemical method

The upgrading of renewable biogas into value-added fuel and chemicals via syngas is of great significance. Ru/MgO nano-catalysts were prepared via novel soft template-assisted mechanochemical method. Comprehensive characterizations (XRD, N2 physisorption, ICP-OES, CO-chemisorption, CO2-TPD, XPS, HAADF-STEM, HRTEM, CH4-TPSR/CO2-TPO, TGA and Raman spectroscopy, etc.) were conducted to deeply analyze the fresh/spent catalysts. The 0.2Ru/MgO-0.2CTAB catalyst showed high initial activity in terms of CH4/CO2 conversion (∼94 %/61 %) and maintained catalytic stability over 120 h in bi-reforming of model biogas, at 800 °C under CH4/CO2/N2/H2O molar ratio of 3:2:1:2.6 and weight hourly space velocity of 30960 mL g-1h−1. CTAB and other soft templates were effective in enhancing the dispersion of Ru nanoparticles (NPs), which contribute to the inhibition of the deep cracking of CH4 and coke accumulation. Alkaline MgO oxide was crucial in the activation of CO2 and the production of active O* species, thus promoting the removal of carbonaceous precursor and inhibiting the coke accumulation. Additionally, the strong interaction between ultrafine Ru NPs and the MgO support significantly contributed to its anti-sintering performance. The combined advantages of narrow size distribution of ultra-small Ru NPs, suitable basicity of MgO as well as the interaction between ultrafine Ru NPs and MgO over 0.2Ru/MgO-0.2CTAB catalyst led to satisfying catalytic performance in bi-reforming of model biogas.

Characterisation of Aqueous Ultra-high Homeopathic Potencies: Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis.

Over the past decade, research using various methods has claimed the material nature, including nanoparticles (NPs), of high homeopathic potencies. The current study aims to verify these findings using NP tracking analysis (NTA). Six independent serial dilutions of commonly used homeopathic medicines-either soluble (Gelsemium, Pyrogenium, Kalium mur) or insoluble (Cuprum, Argentum, Silicea)-were prepared according to European Pharmacopoeia standards. We compared the homeopathic dynamisations (DYNs) in pure water with their potentised controls and with simple dilutions (DIL) up to 30cH/10-60. We also tested the influence of the container (glass or PET) on the solvent controls. We observed the presence of particles from 20 to 300-400 nm in all DYNs, DILs and controls, except in pure unstirred water. The sizes and size distributions of NPs in high homeopathic potencies were smaller than those in controls for soluble sources and larger for insoluble sources, even above 11cH. The opposite behaviour was observed in the number of NPs. When comparing DYN and DIL, the number, size, presence of aggregates or chains and brightness of NPs increased with DYNs, which was also observed above 11cH. Many NPs scattered light of low intensity, indicating the presence of material particles. The container had a significant effect on the number and size of NPs, indicating the involvement of the atmosphere and leaching processes. Homeopathic medicines contain NPs with specific properties, even when diluted beyond Avogadro's number. Homeopathic potentisation is not a simple dilution. The starting material, the solvent used, the type of container and the manufacturing method influence the characteristics of these NPs. The nature of these NPs is not known, but most likely they are a mixture of nanobubbles and elements from the atmosphere and container, including insoluble ones.

Optimization of Properties of Iron Oxide Nanoparticles Synthized by SolGel Method

In this study, the effects of pH value and capping agent on the morphology, pore structure and size of iron oxide nanoparticles were investigated systematically to obtain optimum properties. Iron oxide nanoparticles were synthized by sol-gel method. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) was used as capping agent by adding to the solution at 70 °C. After the drying process the powders were heat treated at 250 °C for 2 h under air atmosphere. Particle size of each sample was determined by using ZetaSizer instrument. X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique was employed for structural properties of iron oxide nanoparticles, FE-SEM (Field Emmision Scanning Electron Microscopy) was used to analyze the morphology of the powders. Magnetic properties of the nanoparticles were measured by VSM (Vibrating Sample Magnetometer) under air atmosphere at room temperature. Spesific surface area, porosity and pore size distribution of iron oxide nanoparticles were calculated by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) instrument. The results indicated that formation of the γ-Fe2O3 is sensitive to either the pH value of the solution or the capping agent, for the uncoated samples when pH value of the solution is adjusted to 2.5, α-Fe2O3 phase was detected as a single phase. When the solution was neutralized, γ-Fe2O3 was formed as the major phase in the microstructure, γ-Fe2O3 phase was formed as the major phase in the PVA coated samples leading to highest value of 50.33 emu/g measured in the sample of PVA8.5. For the PVA coated samples, specific surface area is in the range of 15.73 – 20.81 m2 /g, the intervals of pore volume and average pore width are increased to 0.099 – 0.121 cm3 /g and 23.19 – 23.07 nm respectively.

Sonochemical deposition of gold nano-shells on suspended polymeric spheres

Metal nanoparticles have drawn great interest due to their unique properties for applications in the fields of catalysis, biomedicine and environmental science depending on the architecture of the metal nanoparticle composites. Amongst different designing routes, the chemical template deposition offers great flexibility in terms of the template selection and interfacial interactions, giving rise to controllable designs. In order to control over nanoparticle size distribution and deposition efficiency, a sonochemical approach has been systematically followed in this study. Key parameters of the ultrasound-assisted deposition procedures during the seeding step to synthesise gold nanoparticle-coated poly(styrene) beads were investigated. The impact of the solution pH and the ultrasonic frequency on the template deposition was examined at 139, 300, 500 and 1000 kHz. The results, monitored by transmission electron spectroscopic imaging, show that the highest gold deposition was achieved at 300 kHz, revealing the mechanistic details of the nucleation-crystal growth behaviour as a function of ultrasonic frequency and reaction time. In addition, the concentration ratio between gold ions and poly(styrene) beads was varied. The highest deposition coverage and smallest particle size were reached at 0.05 mM and 2.5 mg, respectively. The proposed mechanism of the MNPs formation and deposition behaviour were then discussed based on the tested parameters.

Linear volumetric additive manufacturing of zirconia from a transparent photopolymerizable ceramic slurry via Xolography

Advanced ceramics printed with photon-based additive manufacturing deals with anisotropic mechanical properties from the layer-by-layer manufacturing. Motivated by the success in using highly filled transparent slurries containing nanoparticles for powder-based two-photon-polymerization (2PP) for advanced ceramic printing, this works approach is the transfer to Xolography, a volumetric additive manufacturing technology based on linear two-photon excitation and without recoating steps. This paper reports the results of a preliminary investigation optimizing the photocurable slurry to the requirements of Xolography in terms of transparency, over a significantly larger mean free path, compared to 2PP. A feedstock filled with 70 % weight fraction of ceramic particles (∼30 vol%) exhibiting an exceptionally high degree of transparency in the relevant wavelength range of 400–800 nm was prepared from 5 nm zirconia nanoparticles. The high transparency of the photocurable slurry is attributed to the near-monomodal particle size distribution of the zirconia nanoparticles used.

Microfluidic aerosol-assisted synthesis of gefitinib anticancer drug nanocarrier based on chitosan natural polymer

An aerosol-assisted approach was devised to synthesize gefitinib anticancer drug-loaded chitosan nanocarriers (GefNCs). The nanocarrier synthesis involves mixing and interacting gefitinib molecules with chitosan natural polymer within a microfluidic chip. The combination was nebulized with an on-chip integrated micropneumatic nebulizer with N2 as the nebulizer gas. The aerosol was collected in a beaker containing a glutaraldehyde cross-linking agent while magnetically stirring. The chip was created by CO2 laser engraving on polymethyl methacrylate sheets. The synthesized GefNCs were characterized using FTIR, DLS, FESEM, and TEM. The FESEM images revealed a nanoparticle size distribution of 18.5 ± 4.6 nm. After adjusting numerous experimental parameters such as chip design, polymer concentration, solution flow rate, and nebulizer gas flow rate, the synthesized nanocarrier's release mechanism was investigated using various kinetic models. The results demonstrated that the release behavior of GefNCs is pH-sensitive and greater at acidic pH values than physiological pH, making the synthesized nanocarrier a potential for targeted gefitinib delivery to cancer cells. Furthermore, the kinetic studies revealed that the drug's release mechanism best matches Fick's diffusion rule. Under optimal conditions, the encapsulation efficiency was 77.8 %. The cytotoxicity of the produced nanocarrier was investigated on the A549 non-small cell lung carcinoma. The MTT test revealed that the produced nanocarrier had a lower IC50 than the free medication. Furthermore, cytotoxicity experiments on empty nanocarriers revealed that the materials utilized to synthesize nanocarriers have no appreciable cytotoxicity. The developed microfluidic-assisted approach provides a quicker synthesis procedure with a high encapsulation efficiency.

Integration of Melt Electrowritten Polymeric Scaffolds and Bioprinting for Epithelial Healing via Localized Periostin Delivery.

Management of skin injuries imposes a substantial financial burden on patients and hospitals, leading to diminished quality of life. Periostin (rhOSF), an extracellular matrix component, regulates cell function, including a proliferative healing phase, representing a key protein to promote wound healing. Despite its proven efficacy in vitro, there is a lack of scaffolds that facilitate the in situ delivery of rhOSF. In addition, there is a need for a scaffold to not only support cell growth, but also to resist the mechanical forces involved in wound healing. In this work, we synthesized rhOSF-loaded mesoporous nanoparticles (MSNs) and incorporated them into a cell-laden gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) ink that was bioprinted into melt electrowritten poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) microfibrous (MF-PCL) meshes to develop mechanically competent constructs. Diffraction light scattering (DLS) analysis showed a narrow nanoparticle size distribution with an average size of 82.7 ± 13.2 nm. The rhOSF-loaded hydrogels showed a steady and controlled release of rhOSF over 16 days at a daily dose of ∼40 ng/mL. Compared with blank MSNs, the incorporation of rhOSF markedly augmented cell proliferation, underscoring its contribution to cellular performance. Our findings suggest a promising approach to address challenges such as prolonged healing, offering a potential solution for developing robust, biocompatible, and cell-laden grafts for burn wound healing applications.

Laser synthesis of oxide nanoparticles with controlled gas condensation

In this work, the oxide nanopowders of Al2O3, ZrO2, Y2O3, Gd2O3, CeO2, and SiO2 were synthesized by CW CO2 laser vaporization technique with controlled gas condensation in an inert atmosphere. Methods for controlling the size of the resulting nanoparticles by adjusting the gas composition and pressure during the vaporization process have been demonstrated. The potential for producing ultrasmall oxide nanoparticles with dimensions less than 5 nm has been shown. The size distribution of nanoparticles taken from different parts of the evaporation-condensation tract was studied using scanning (SEM) and transmission (TEM) electron microscopy methods. The effect of synthesis conditions (pressure and composition of the inert gas) on characteristics of the nanoparticles is discussed. Using a wide class of simple oxides as the example, it is shown that the powders synthesized by the laser method consist of three types of particles: target spherical particles with a diameter of 3–20 nm (more than 98%), larger spherical particles with a diameter of 50–200 nm, and shapeless large particles with sizes more than 200 nm. The possibility of separating large particles from the main particles using the original labyrinth system for gas pumping is shown. The obtained particles with controlled sizes can be effectively used in various applications, in particular, for the preparation of catalysts and adsorbents.

Green synthesis of Carica papaya mediated silver nanoparticles: Characterization, antibacterial activity, and bioelectricity generation for sustainable applications in nanotechnology

This study presents a sustainable method for synthesizing silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) using green Carica papaya extract (CPE) as a reducing and stabilizing agent. The green synthesis minimizes environmental impact and utilizes bioactive compounds in Carica papaya (CP), offering an economical and sustainable alternative. The goal is to employ CPE for the eco-friendly synthesis of Ag NPs, followed by comprehensive characterization, antibacterial evaluation, cytotoxicity against brine shrimp, and examination of bioelectricity generation. Locally sourced CP was boiled in deionized water, then cooled and filtered twice. The bio-reduction of silver ions to Ag NPs was confirmed by a color change when 45 mL of 0.005 M AgNO3 was mixed with 5 mL of CPE. Characterization through UV–vis absorption spectrophotometry (UV), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC–MS) analysis confirms the successful formation and consistent size distribution of Ag nanoparticles. CPE is a crucial reducing agent, as evidenced by a distinct UV-visible peak at 422 nm. X-ray crystal analysis verifies highly crystalline Ag NPs with a face-centered cubic lattice structure. The d-spacing values in SAED images are consistent with the results obtained from XRD. Antimicrobial effectiveness against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus epidermidis is demonstrated. The study explores the bioelectricity generation potential of CPE-synthesized Ag NPs, indicating promising prospects for sustainable energy solutions. Preliminary experiments show the ability of the nanoparticles to catalyze bio-electrochemical reactions. This dual-benefit study underscores CPEs role in antibacterial properties and bioelectricity generation, laying the groundwork for further research in sustainable nanotechnology applicable to healthcare and energy sectors and contributing to the advancement of environmentally friendly technologies.

Modification of Hydrotalcite Loading Tannic Acid with Organic Silane and Application in Anticorrosive Epoxy Coating.

Metal corrosion is a challenge for the world with heavy impacts on the economy. Study on the development of effectiveness anticorrosion additives is a promising strategery for the protection industry. This research focuses on the modification of hydrotalcite Mg-Al (HT) loading tannic acid (TA) with 3-(trimethoxy silyl) propyl methacrylate organo-silane (TMSPM) for applicating as an anti-corrosion additive for epoxy coating on the steel substrate. The suitable ratio of HT and modifiers was investigated and the suitable content of modified HT in epoxy matrix was found based on mechanical properties of the epoxy-based coating. The characteristics of modified HT were assessed through infrared (IR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermal gravimetry analysis (TGA), water contact angle (WCA), dynamic light scattering (DLS). Detailly, HT-TA3-S3 shows good stability in distilled water when HT/TA was modified with TMSPM which makes Zeta potential decreases significantly. Besides, SEM analysis presented HT-TA-S has a cylindrical shape about of 500 nm. Moreover, the crystallite size of HT/TA after being modified by TMSPM decreases sharply. All of these prove successfully synthesize HT loading TA with modified TMSPM. Water contact angle (WCA) decreases in case of loading TA and increases in case of modifying with TMSPM (WCA changed from HT (116.3°) to HT-TA (102.4°) and HT-TA-S (120.1°) which indicates the increased hydrophobicity of the sample. The obtained results showed HT/TA was modified successfully with TMSPM. The modification affected the size distribution and surface properties of HT nanoparticles while it did not impact on the crystal structure of HT. After incorporating modified HT/TA into the epoxy coating, the adhesion of coating to steel substrate was improved significantly. Consequently, the adhesion of epoxy/3 wt. % modified HT/TA coating was increased 3 times as compared to epoxy neat (from 0.76 MPa to 2.77 MPa). In addition, the relative hardness and gloss retention of epoxy/3 wt. % modified HT/TA coating reached the maximum values as compared to the others. Owing to salt spraying results, the epoxy/3 wt. % modified HT/TA exhibited an excellent anticorrosion ability for the steel substrate. All the above results show the potential of HT nanoparticles loading TA modified with TMSPM as anticorrosive additives for protective coatings on steel substrates.

Linear and nonlinear regression modelling of industrial dye adsorption using nanocellulose@chitosan nanocomposite beads

Nanocellulose@chitosan (nc@ch) composite beads were prepared via coagulation technique for the elimination of malachite green dye from aqueous solution. As malachite green dye is highly used in textile industries for dyeing purpose which after usage shows fatal effects to the ecosystems and human beings also. In this study the formulated nanocellulose@chitosan composite beads were characterized by Particle size analysis (PSA), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis were done to evaluate nanoparticles size distribution, morphological behaviour, functional group entities and degree of crystallinity of prepared beads. The nanocomposite beads adsorption performance was investigated for malachite green (MG) dye and BET analysis were also recorded to know about porous behaviour of the nanocomposite beads. Maximum removal of malachite green (MG) dye was found to be 72.0 mg/g for 100 ppm initial dye concentration. For accurate observations linear and non-linear modelling was done to know about the best-fitted adsorption model during the removal mechanism of dye molecules, on evaluating it has been observed that Langmuir isotherm and Freundlich isotherm show best-fitted observation in the case of linear and non-linear isotherm respectively (R2 = 0.96 & R2 = 0.957). In the case of kinetic linear models, the data was well fitted with pseudo-second-order showing chemosorption mechanism (R2 = 0.999), and in the case of non-linear kinetic model pseudo first order showed good fit showing physisorption mechanism during adsorption (R2 = 0.999). The thermodynamic study showed positive values for ΔH° and ΔS° throughout the adsorption process respectively, implying an endothermic behaviour. In view of cost effectiveness, desorption or regeneration study was done and it was showed that after the 5th cycle, the removal tendency had decreased from 48 to 38 % for 20–100 ppm dye solution accordingly. Thus, nanocomposite beads prepared by the coagulation method seem to be a suitable candidate for dye removal from synthetic wastewater and may have potential to be used in small scale textile industries for real wastewater treatment.

Synthesis and multifunctional properties of MnxCo1-xFe2O4 nanoparticles via solvothermal route

MnxCo1-xFe2O4 nanoparticles with compositions x = 0, 0.25, 0.50, and 0.75 were synthesized using a straightforward surfactant-free solvothermal route. The nanoparticles' microstructure, morphology, and size distribution were studied by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. Raman spectroscopy was used to obtain information about their vibrational properties and the cation distribution in the spinel lattice. UV–visible and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy were used to study their photocatalytic activity and optical properties. The behavior of MnxCo1-xFe2O4 nanoparticles in an aqueous medium and its effects on the photocatalytic activity were highlighted by ζ-potential measurements. Their magnetic properties were investigated using M − H curves and ZFC-FC measurements. The results allowed us to study the solvothermal route's effectiveness for synthesizing well-crystallized ultra-small size MnxCo1-xFe2O4 nanoparticles with promising photocatalytic and superparamagnetic properties. They also provided insights into the effects of manganese's cobalt substitution on the spinel lattice's cation distribution and the mechanisms behind their observed physical properties.
