Role of credit on mustard production and food security in a selected area of Sirajganj District in Bangladesh

Credit is a driving force behind increased crop productivity, and food security is essential to the general advancement of humanity. The current study was carried out to analyze the socioeconomic profile of the respondents, examine the loan components, evaluate the effect of credit on mustard production, and find out how many calories each household member consumes on a per capita basis. A sample size of sixty respondents was selected randomly from Sirajganj district in Bangladesh. Primary data were collected through a field survey using a semi-structured interview schedule. Descriptive statistics, the multiple linear regression models, and the modified OECD scale were used to analyze the data. The study found that most of the respondents were in the active age group, and half of the respondents had a secondary level of education. About half of the respondents belonged to the middle-income group. Two-thirds of the respondents received a large loan. It was found that credit had a positive impact on mustard production. The poverty rate was much higher than the national average in the study area. Along with specialized banks, other financial institutions should extend agricultural loans to increase mustard production and food security for rural poor households in Bangladesh.

Barriers to the uptake of eye health services of the children in rural Bangladesh: A community-based cross-sectional survey

Globally, ocular morbidity and disability among children are major public health concerns. This study was designed to explore the health-seeking behaviours of parents in Bangladesh whose children have ocular problems. A cross-sectional mixed method was followed for this study. The method was designed to measure the eye health care-seeking practices of caregivers/parents with children with ocular morbidity in three unions (the lowest administrative geographical area comprising 30,000–50,000 population) of the Raiganj Upazila under the Sirajganj District of Bangladesh. The study period was from January to April 2017. Face-to-face interviews using a semi-structured quantitative questionnaire with the caregivers and KI were conducted among the health service providers during the study period. This was the first community-based study conducted in Bangladesh to find out caregivers’ health-seeking behaviour with identified ocular morbidity. Among 198 confirmed cases of childhood ocular problems, only 87 (43.9%) parents sought health care for their children’s ocular morbidities. Better health-seeking behavior was found among the wealthier families. Proportions were 55.3% and 36% among wealthy and low-income families, respectively. Affluent families sought care from qualified service providers. Educated household heads chose qualified service providers for their children at a higher rate than illiterate household heads. Lack of knowledge, lack of awareness and financial constraints are significant barriers to seeking proper health care. More than half of the caregivers did not seek any eye care services for their children. Socio-demographic factors, and financial constraints play an essential role in the health-seeking behaviour of the parents.

EFFECTIVENESS OF HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT TOWARDS EMPLOYEES’ PERFORMANCE IN PRIVATE BANKS OF BANGLADESH

HRM is “a management function involving procurement of suitable human resources train and develops their competencies. The study of human resource management practices has been an important and critical area in management and organizational performance from last several years especially in the banking industry. The study highlights the fact that private banks i.e Dutch Bangla Bank Ltd., United Commercial Bank Ltd., Dhaka Bank Ltd., and One Bank Limited leading private commercial banks of Bogura and Sirajganj District in Bangladesh is better can be the facilities and benefits provided to the employees. The study helps to the policy makers researches and bankers etc. Further it would be also using the formulation of bank policies related to the HRM practices in a banking sector. Therefore, the present study focus on HRM practices and Employees performance in Private sector banks in in Bangladesh. This study concluded that HR practices and policies pave the way for improving and raising employee productivity in bank sector and leading to the achievement of organizational objectives, employee satisfaction and long term sustainability in Private Banks of Bangladesh.”

IMPACT OF HRM PRACTICES & JOB SATISFACTION IN SELECTED PRIVATE BANKS OF BANGLADESH

Human Resource Management includes planning, job analysis, job design, acquisition, training and development, compensation, appraisal, benefits, rewards, safety, health, motivation, job evaluation, human relations, employee counselling and personnel research of human resources. The main purpose of the study is to investigate the Impact of HRM Practices & Job Satisfaction in Selected Private Banks of Bangladesh. To conduct this research, 85 respondents from Dutch Bangla Bank Ltd., United Commercial Bank Ltd., Dhaka Bank Ltd., & One Bank Limited leading private commercial banks of Bogura & Sirajganj District of Bangladesh. This study is based on primary as well as secondary data in nature. Primary data have been collected with help of a structured questionnaire which was administered personally to the bank employees. The primary data have been analysied with help of SPSS software. This study tried to disclose the relationship between employees’ satisfaction and various dimensions of HRM practices. In this study, we considered nine major factors which represented most of the human resources management practices followed by different private banks. The study reveals that all HRM dimensions exercised in the private banking sector of Bangladesh falls short to satisfy the employees equally. Most of the employees are dissatisfied with Compensation System followed by reward and motivation, Career & Development, training and development, Management System, and job design and responsibilities. It is found the HRM practices in the private banking sectors of Bangladesh have not been fully developed and there is the urgent need to employ the services of HR professionals, consultants and researchers to help shape and develop new directional focus that will ensure an efficient and effective human resource practices.” KEYWORDS: HRM, HRM practices, job satisfaction, private commercial banks, Bangladesh”

Scaling up of livestock production for sustainable livelihood: An empirical study from Sirajganj district of Bangladesh

Livestock is a vital component of the complex farming system in Bangladesh. This focuses towards he contribution of livestock farming in the livelihood of the farmers as well as the realization of the challenges in livestock farming as perceived by the farmers. A mixed-method research design was used to collect data from 100 livestock farmers of Kamarkhanda Upazila (sub-district) under Sirajganj district. According to the findings of the study, livestock farming has significant contributions in improving the status of livelihood tatus of farming households. It is evident from the findings that majority of the respondents (69%), faced medium level of challenges in livestock farming compared to high level of challenges faced by 28% respondents of the study area. The socio-demographic characteristics of the respondents namely farm size, annual income, training received, subsidy received and extension media contact seem to have significant contributions with the challenges faced by the farmers in livestock farming. As the livestock sector of Bangladesh has great potential to flourish provided the challenges faced by the farmers are given due attention. Implementation of farmers’ friendly livestock policy and the collaborative efforts of public and private sectors are required to boost up livestock productivity in Bangladesh. SAARC J. Home remedial treatments for COVID-19 in Sirajganj district, Bangladesh

COVID-19, the latest pandemic to hit the world is caused by a coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 and follows similar but not so widespread outbreaks by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) corona viruses. This latest outbreak, which started in Wuhan, China at the tail end of December 2019, has already caused (as of February 20, 2022) 424,434,253 infections and 5,903,704 deaths worldwide. In Bangladesh, the corresponding numbers are 1,933,291 infections and 28,965 deaths. No fully effective drugs have been discovered thus far for tackling this coronavirus, or so for that matter, any of the seven coronaviruses affecting human beings. A number of vaccines have been developed in the Western countries, Russia and China, and have gained approval for administration only very recently. That still leaves several major questions to be answered, namely how can developing countries get proper access to the vaccine (s) and store them and administer them in a correct manner taking into account that richer nations have bought up most of the vaccine stock available, whether new mutations of SARS-CoV-2 like delta and omicron variants may partly or fully invalidate the vaccine(s), and last but not the least, to vaccinate with two doses of the vaccine(s) along with 1-2 booster doses somewhere around 80% of the world population of nearly 8 billion, which scientists say is necessary to develop herd immunity. As a result people in countries like Bangladesh have resorted to their personal home remedial measures against COVID-19 and claims of success are heard quite often. We report here some home remedial measures used in Sirajganj district of Bangladesh and note that over the last two years COVID-19 has been in existence, these home remedies are beginning to coalesce into a distinct form unique for COVID-19 treatment. We also report that quite valid scientific support can be found behind these home remedies despite the fact that these remedies have been formulated and used by mostly rural people of the country.

Insights of Handloom Producers of Sirajganj District in Bangladesh

This study was undertaken to measure the current socioeconomic and profitability status of the traditional handloom producers living in Sirajganj district of Bangladesh. Primary data were collected from 60 randomly selected handloom owners. Two main products were considered in this study, i.e., sharee and gamcha . Descriptive statistics and cost-return analysis were performed to assess the present situation and profitability of handloom production. The Gini Coefficient and Lorenz Curve measured inequality among respondents. A log transformed multiple linear regression model was applied to explore the factors influencing handloom products production. Results revealed that most of the handloom weaving was financed through the weavers’ own capital and taking loans from the bank. The undiscounted benefit-cost ratios were 1.12 and 1.20 for sharee and gamcha, respectively, indicating both enterprises were profitable but gamcha was more profitable than sharee. The Gini Coefficient of handloom weavers’ income is less than 0.25. Results from the regression analysis revealed that human labour, yarn, color, and processing cost significantly impacted sharee and gamcha production. Therefore, efficient utilization of these resources in the production process of handloom products would be essential that can bring more profit for handloom production.

How well does government microcredit serve the investment needs of small and medium enterprises? An impact analysis on handloom weavers in Bangladesh

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to empirically estimate the impact of a government microcredit program on the handloom weavers to promote small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Bangladesh.Design/methodology/approachThe data were collected from 311 handloom weavers from the Sirajganj District of Bangladesh from July to December 2015 using a multistage sampling technique. The analysis was conducted using a two-stage least squares regression model incorporating instrumental variables to control for the probable endogeneity problem associated with the study.FindingsThis study finds that government microcredit had no significant impact on borrowers' investment in their business, whereas credit received from multiple sources other than government credit had a significant negative impact. Additionally, literacy level, household assets and the number of operational handloom units positively affected investment, while the number of non-operational handloom units and distance negatively affected the investment.Research limitations/implicationsThis study's findings are more specific for the selected case and may not be generalizable to all kinds of SMEs.Practical implicationsThe policy implications are targeted at increasing loan size based on the number of operational handloom units to improve the performance of government and other microcredit programs to facilitate the growth of SMEs in Bangladesh.Originality/valueThis study specifically focuses on estimating the financial performance of government microcredit programs for SME development within the handloom industry, which has not been sufficiently explored in the literature.

Crop-weed association in different field crops at Sirajganj district in Bangladesh

A survey was conducted at farmers’ fields in five upazilas of Sirajganj district to find out farmers’ knowledge on crop-weed association in different field crops, crop yield losses and weeds act as alternate hosts for insect-pathogen during 2019 to 2020 cropping seasons. Primary data were collected from the respondents through a well-oriented structural questionnaire. A total of 40 weed species, belong to 35 genera under 21 families, were identified from 8 different field crops. The highest crop-weed association was found in rice (40:192) and the lowest in mustard (106:50). The maximum weed management cost was occurred in rice (38,900 Tk. ha–1). Weed caused 8 to 51% yield loss in different field crops. Our results revealed that Mutha emerged as the major noxious weed for six field crops of this district. Weeds acted as alternate hosts of various insects and pathogens. According to farmers’ opinion, weed is also used as fodder, mulch, compost, vegetables, fish feed, medicinal and ornamental purposes at their locality. Therefore, the present study provides information to extension workers and researchers about the noxious weeds and their crop-weed association, other harmful and beneficial effects of weeds, for better, sustainable, and eco-friendly weed management practices.

People’s Participation in Flood Coping Mechanism in Bangladesh

The purpose of this study was to determine peoples’ participation in flood coping mechanism, to explore the relationships between selected characteristics of the respondents and their flood coping mechanism and to assess the contribution of selected personal and socio-economic characteristics to their participation in flood coping mechanism. Data were collected from a sample of 298 flood affected peoples selected by multistage random sampling procedure from Sirajganj district of Bangladesh during the period from 20 August, 2014 to 20 November, 2014. The flood coping mechanism was determined initially on five aspects namely food collection and management, agricultural products protection, household assets protection, health and sanitation and some social context. Ten statements were identified under each aspect making a total of 50 statements considered as dependent variable of the study. Finally a flood coping mechanism index (CMI) was computed. Among the 50 statements of flood coping mechanism the highest coping mechanism in each aspects was observed where ‘dry food preparation and preservation’, ‘rapid growth short duration crop cultivation’, ‘cooperate with abled relatives’, ‘transportation of all houses to the safe place due to over flood’ and ‘use small boat or vella for defecation purpose etc. More than two-thirds (68.1 percent) of the respondents had medium, whereas nearly one-fifth (19.1 percent) had low and 12.8 percent had high concentration on flood copping mechanism. Among 15 individual characteristics of the respondents, nine of them had positive and significant relationship with flood coping mechanism while six of them had no significant relationship with flood coping mechanism.

Factors Determining the Credit Accessibility by the Small-Scale Entrepreneurs: A Case of Handloom Weaving in Bangladesh

This study examines the determinants of access to credit by the handloom weavers in Bangladesh. Using the multistage sampling technique, the primary data for the analysis were collected from 311 randomly selected handloom weavers from Sirajganj district of Bangladesh during July to December 2015. The data are analyzed by using the Logit model. The model identifies several individual, household, community, and institution-specific factors as the significant determinants of credit access. Among them, family size, farm size, work experience, saving and the flexibility in the terms and conditions of loan use increase the probability of credit access by the handloom weavers whereas the risk aversion attitude and the distance between the Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) from the commune reduce such possibility. Therefore, this study suggests that respondents should utilize the joint effort of the available family members in this labor-intensive business while undertaking rational decisions enhanced through the skills and capabilities acquired over the years. They should maintain a sufficient amount of saving to prove them eligible in repaying their credit. From the institutional perspective, it is suggested that the MFIs should provide adequate financial and non-financial services to its clientele as per their needs. Borrowers’ easy accessibility to the institutions should also be ensured. In doing so, they should open up more branches in the villages so that the door to door services are available to the borrowers. It is expected that these recommendations will help in improving the credit access by the handloom weavers in Bangladesh.

Profitability and constraints analysis of pulses production in some selected areas of Sirajganj Districtin Bangladesh

The study was conducted in three upazilas of Sirajganj district to estimate profitability of different pulses crops (Kheshari, Lentil and Mung) production and to identify the constraints associated with production of those pulses. To achieve the objectives of the study primary data were collected from 90 farmers through well-developed questionnaire. The sample farmers were selected through purposive sampling technique. Per hectare production cost and returns were determined to analyze profitability of growing pulses from the viewpoints of individual farmers. Profitability was measured in terms of gross return, gross margin, net return and benefit cost ratio (BCR). Results of the study revealed that the highest total cost of production was found in Mung (42476 Tk.. ha-1) and the lowest in kheshari (21818 Tk.. ha-1). Estimated Gross Return of kheshari, lentil and mung was Tk. 46800, Tk. 62280 and Tk. 60250 per ha, respectively. The highest net return was found from lentil cultivation (26906 Tk. ha-1) and the lowest from mung cultivation (17774 Tk. ha-1). The highest BCR was obtained from cultivation of kheshari (2.15) followed by lentil (1.76) and mung (1.42). The results of the study indicated that among the pulses, kheshari production was more profitable. The result of the study also find out some major constraints in producing pulses those were as Lack of technical knowledge, Non availability of good quality seed, High price of input, Low output price, Labour scarcity and high cost, Lack of subsidy for inputs, Weak research and extension linkages, Non availability of suitable literature, Environmental constraints. The results of the study clearly indicated that pulses production is profitable and if government should take some appropriate measure for solving the constraints in pulses production that will enhance increase production of pulses. As a result, the increased production of pulses will contribute to fulfil the per capita plant protein requirement in many respects and the country will able to attain self-sufficiency in pulses production.

Emerging status of anaplasmosis in cattle in Sirajganj district with therapeutic evaluation of traditional treatments

The present study was carried out to detect the prevalence of anaplasmosis in cattle at Rayganj and Ullahpara upazila in Sirajganj district of Bangladesh and to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of traditional drugs like Oxetetracycline (Renamycine®), Imidocarb diproprionate (Babenil®) and Diminazine aceturate (Berenil®) against anaplasmosis in cattle. The study was conducted from July 2016 to December 2016. During six months of study period a total of 150 blood samples were collected from clinically ill and suspected cattle, among which 28 samples were positive for anaplasmosis by Geimsa stained blood smear method. It was observed that the overall prevalence of anaplasmosis in cattle was 18.67%, where 16.25% was Geimsa stained blood smear at Rayganj and 21.43% at Ullapara upazila respectively and the variation was not statistically significant (p>0.05). In respect of age the prevalence of anaplasmosis was significantly (p< 0.05) higher (31.7%) in 2-3 years of age group cattle than above 3 years (16.67%) and 6 months to 2 years age (10.20%) group. On the basis of sex, it was observed that the variation in prevalence in male (15.94%) and female (20.99%) was not statistically significant (p>0.05). Breed-wise prevalence was higher in crossbred cattle (19.5%) than local cattle (17.8%), was not statistically significant (p>0.05). It was observed that among three drugs used in this study, the best effectiveness of drugs was seen by Oxytetracycline (Renamycine LA®) @ 10 mg/kg body weight followed by Imidocarb dipropionate (Babenil®) @ 3.5 mg/kg body weight moderately and less by Diminazine aceturate (Berenil®) @ 3.5 mg/kg body weight. From the study it was evident that cattle were infected with the organisms and caused a heavy economic loss which recommended taking necessary preventive measurements.

Groundwater quality for drinking and irrigation usages in Kazipur upazila under Sirajganj district of Bangladesh

Groundwater is one of the most important natural resources which plays a vital role for drinking and irrigation usages. Evaluation of groundwater quality determines its suitability for different purposes. An investigation was carried out to evaluate the quality of groundwater for irrigation and drinking usages based on the various water quality parameters. Groundwater samples were collected from forty different sites of Kazipur upazila under the district of Sirajganj during the periods from January 20 to January 28, 2018 maintaining the distance between each of two sites as more than one kilometer. Different physiochemical parameters including pH, EC, TDS, Ca²+, Mg²+, K+, Na+, Mn²+, Fe²+, CO3²ˉ, HCO3ˉ, Clˉ, SO4²ˉ and PO4³ˉ contents were analyzed. The pH values of the groundwater samples were non-problematic for irrigation as well as drinking purposes. The obtained electrical conductivity values of the samples were within the limit of 150.0 to 754.0 µS cm-1. The samples of four sites i.e., Noapara, Meghai bazar, Salabora and Drigidrota were categorized as low salinity and the rests as medium salinity, with low alkalinity hazards. Total dissolved solids varied from 65.0 to 309.0 mg L-1 which categorized the samples as freshwater and non-problematic. All the samples were identified as excellent class based on sodium adsorption ratio (range: 0.12 ~ 0.66). Based on soluble sodium percentages, 97.5% of the samples were classified as excellent. Residual sodium carbonate values (–8.60 ~ –1.68) of the samples were suitable for irrigation. Permeability index (range: 14.78 ~ 49.73) categorized half portion of the samples as class-II and remaining as class-I which implied the samples as suitable for irrigation usages. About 10% of samples were medium hard, 70% were hard and rests were very hard in quality. Fe2+ content ranged from 0.23 to 21.75 mg L-1 with a mean value of 5.29 mg L-1. The detected Fe2+ content of 14 water samples was above the permissible limit. Mn2+ concentration (1.58 mg L-1) was considered as hazardous for long-term irrigation purpose in most of the samples because of exceeding the recommended limit (0.20 mg L-1). As per K+, Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+, HCO3ˉ, Clˉ, SO42ˉ and PO43ˉ status, all the samples can safely be used for irrigation and drinking purposes. The assessment showed high levels of Fe2+ and Mn2+ in groundwater samples that are responsible to make the groundwater unsafe for irrigation and drinking purposes.

Small scale production system of broiler in Pabna and Sirajganj district of Bangladesh

The study was conducted in Pabna and Sirajganj districts under Rajshahi division of Bangladesh to assess the current scenario, feasibility, vaccination service, net income from small scale Broiler farming. The information was collected using pre-structured questionnaire from 50 randomly selected respondents who were involved in broiler farming. We collected the data related to family member(s), education, main occupation, training, annual income, number of broiler in each batch, name of feed Company; types of shed, existing marketing system etc. Results showed that out of 50 respondents 80% completed their graduation, 10% medium level of educated and rest of the respondents were illiterate. In case of farmer types, 29% small farmers, 41% medium type & rest of them were large type farmer. The day old chick (DOC) price was ranging from 40-42 taka each of all respondents. Most of the respondents used ready broiler feed and purchased from Kazi, Provita and Nourish Co.Ltd. About 30-40 % farmers marketed their birds at 32-35 days and final weight was ranging from 2.06- 2.29 kg/bird. The result of present study could be considered as a useful tool to new entrepreneurs at decision making in broiler production in Bangladesh.

Epidemiology of childhood blindness: A community-based study in Bangladesh.

This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and causes of childhood blindness in a rural area of Bangladesh. We adopted a cross-sectional quantitative study design for this study, which was performed in three unions (sub-districts) located in Raiganj Upazila of the Sirajganj district in Bangladesh. Using a validated tool, a screening program was conducted at the household level. After initial screening, a team of ophthalmologists confirmed the diagnoses by clinical examinations. The prevalence of childhood blindness was observed to be 6.3 per 10,000 children, whereas the rate of uniocular blindness was 4.8 per 10,000 children. Congenital problems were the major causes of both uniocular and binocular blindness (uniocular blindness: 84% and binocular blindness: 92%). The whole globe was the site responsible for binocular blindness (28.0%, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 13.1, 47.7), whereas the cornea was responsible for uniocular blindness (57.8%, 95% CI: 35.3, 78.1). Childhood blindness is a public health problem in Bangladesh and is highly prevalent, regardless of sex. The major causes of childhood blindness are congenital.

Epidemiological Survey on Gastrointestinal Parasitic Zoonosis in Cattle of Sirajganj District, Bangladesh

This study was conducted to evaluate the zoonotic gastrointestinal parasitic infections in cattle at Sirajganj district of Bangladesh during the period from February, 2016 to November, 2016 by coproscopy examination. A total of 150 fecal samples of cattle were collected from the study areas, which examined and found 41 (27.33%) were positive for gastrointestinal parasitic infections that has zoonotic importance. The prevalence of parasitic infection was significantly higher in female (33.7%) than in males (19. 4%). The prevalence of parasite was recorded higher in cross breed than in indigenous cattle which are statistically significant (p≤0.05). In case of age groups, the highest rate of infection was observed in adult of >1 years (28.5%) and the lowest in calves aged ≤1 year (25.4%). Moreover, the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites were higher in poor body conditioned cattle (36.3%) than that of malnourished (34%) and healthy cattle (22.4%). In case of management system, the prevalence of parasitic infections was higher in cattle reared in free range (40.0%) than cattle reared in semi-intensive (28.5%) and intensive system (25.5%). Furthermore, parasitic infections were higher in summer (36.5%) followed by winter season (25.5%) and rainy season (15.7%). A significant correlation (P=0.00) has been found between diarrheic non-diarrhea cattle. Finally, prevalence was significantly (P=0.02) higher in cattle with no previous history of anthelmintic use. From this study, it is concluded that gastrointestinal parasitic infection is a major threat to cattle health and production at Sirajganj district irrespective of age, sex, management system, breed, season, diarrheic and anthelmintic usage.

Morphological Dynamics of the Jamuna River in Kazipur Subdistrict

This study identifies and evaluates the morphologically changing trend and process–response mechanisms of Jamuna River. The study considers the bank erosion, bank-line shifting, rate of erosion, accretion, sedimentation, course changing directions, changes in river width, fluvial landform dynamics, and floodplain features. The lower Brahmaputra–Jamuna River (named Jamuna River) at Kazipur subdistrict, Sirajganj district in Bangladesh are the study area. Multispectral Landsat satellite imageries of dry seasons were used for time series analyses of time periods (1972–2016) to interpret the chronological changes of morphology. The outcomes obtained from the analyse, support the historical westward channel shifting of the river, alluvial material properties, explicate fluvial processes, discharge anabranch instability, erosion, and morphological responses.

On-farm welfare assessment of dairy cattle by animal-linked parameters in Bangladesh

The present study was conducted in 33 dairy farms to evaluate the welfare quality of Australian-zebu cross bred cows through some animal-based welfare indicators. The main aims of this research were to identify welfare issues facing dairy cows and investigate whether indicators are associated with measures of welfare and performance efficiency. The assessment of animal welfare was performed (330 animals) Australian-cross breed in family dairy farms at Sirajganj district of Bangladesh. Data were collected through face-to-face interview with farmers, followed by an inspection and observation of dairy cows. A total 330 females (43 heifers and 287 cows) were included in this study. Body condition, body cleanliness, injury, lameness, health status and milk yield were assessed. Among studied animals, body condition score 2 about (65.5%), hock joint injury (83.6%), knee injury (48.8%), and a pronounced state of poor cleanliness on: dirty udder (55.9%), flank (55.0%) and hind limbs (96.4%) were observed. Health status including diarrhea, respiratory distress, coughing, nasal and ocular discharge were present in some animals. The results indicate that very good BCS and mastitis free cows are related to higher milk yields. Results of this study may indicate the some indicators that influence the animal welfare and productivity in selected farms. As this work was a preliminary study, so the comprehensive research is needed to further develop the prototype protocol.Res. Agric., Livest. Fish.3(3): 417-424, December 2016
