Quality of life of caregivers of patients on home enteral nutrition

BackgroundHome enteral nutrition (HEN) patients often rely heavily on caregivers (CGs), whose quality of life (QoL) is significantly impacted. This study aimed to identify potentially modifiable factors influencing the QoL of CGs of HEN patients. MethodsA multicentre, cross-sectional study was conducted in three home nutrition centers from Jan 2021 to Jan 2022. We enrolled 90 CGs of HEN patients, collecting data on QoL (WHOQOL-BREF), depression (Beck Depression Inventory), CG burden (Zarit Burden Interview), sleep quality (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index), stress (Perceived Stress Scale), life satisfaction (Satisfaction With Life Scale) and financial status. ResultsThe mean age of CGs was 54.53 years, with 76% being female. 19% of CGs rated their QoL as poor, and 57% had depression. Multivariate regression analysis showed that financial satisfaction (β = 0.14, p < 0.01) and depression (β = -0.03, p < 0.001) were significant predictors of QoL (R2 = 0.6). Depression correlated with CG burden (r = 0.54, p < 0.001), poor sleep quality (r = 0.47, p < 0.001), stress (r = 0.68, p < 0.001), and financial satisfaction (r = -0.39, p = 0.001). The average monthly income per person was $663.3 and 51.2% of CGs were not satisfied with their financial situation. Lower income was correlated with stress (r = -0.298, p = 0.023). CG burden was associated with financial satisfaction (r = -0.373, p < 0.001), quality of sleep (r = 0.296, p = 0.005) depression (r = 0.54, p < 0.001), stress (r = 0.5, p < 0.001) and satisfaction with life (r = -0.389, p < 0.001). ConclusionsCGs of HEN patients face substantial challenges impacting their QoL, particularly financial stress and depression. Addressing these issues through comprehensive support systems is crucial to improve CG well-being and, subsequently, patient care outcomes.

This study aimed to examine the level of quality of life (QOL) and the psychological and social factors influencing QOL among single-person and multi-person household disaster victims. This study utilized the third-year data from the Disaster Victims Panel Survey. The final analysis included data from 1,301 adults aged 20 and above, and multiple regression analyses were conducted separately for single-person and multi-person households. The main findings of this study are as follows: It was found that the level of QOL among multi-person household disaster victims was higher than that of single-person household disaster victims. Additionally, different psychological and social factors influencing QOL were observed between single-person and multi-person households. Among the psychosocial factors, resilience, depression, self-rated health status, and community resilience were identified as significant common predictors influencing the QOL of disaster victims in all household types. On the other hand, for single-person household disaster victims, only post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) emerged as a significant predictor of QOL. In the case of multi-person household disaster victims, social support and satisfaction with relief and distribution services emerged as new predictive factors influencing QOL. Based on these findings, policy and practical implications for improving the QOL of disaster victims according to household types are suggested.

A retrospective multidimensional comparison of microprocessor and mechanical knee users: Analysis of quality of life and satisfaction with the prosthesis.

Despite the demonstrated greater efficacy of microprocessor knees (MPK) over mechanical knees (MK), the latter is still widely used by persons with transfemoral amputation. Besides motivations related to local insurance policies, quality of life (QoL) and satisfaction with the prosthesis play a key role in user preference. The aim of this study is to compare QoL and satisfaction in a large sample of MPK and MK users and to assess how these outcomes are explained by clinical and demographic characteristics. Retrospective study. The study was conducted on 75 MPK and 60 MK users. Quality of life was assessed using the EuroQoL Five Dimensions and the EuroQoL Visual Analog Scale questionnaires. Satisfaction was assessed with the Satisfaction with Prosthesis questionnaire. All 3 instruments were self-administered. Univariate and multivariate regression analyses were conducted thereafter. The difference in satisfaction between MPK and MK users was not statistically significant. Significant differences were observed instead for QoL. From the univariate regression analysis, 6 factors were significant predictors of QoL and satisfaction. On multivariate analysis, the number of significant factors was reduced to 3, namely knee type, age at the first prosthesis, and experience with prosthesis. Type of knee and age at the first prosthesis significantly predicted QoL scores, explaining 12% of EuroQoL Five Dimensions and 25% of EuroQoL Visual Analog Scale variances. Age at the first prosthesis and experience with prosthesis predicted Satisfaction with Prosthesis scores in the multivariate model, explaining 25% of the variance. MPK affects QoL but not satisfaction, which is positively driven by patients' experience with prosthesis and negatively affected by the age at the time of the first prosthesis.

Examining the Impact of Coping Strategies on the Quality of Life in Children with Various Disabilities

Children with disabilities face unique challenges that affect their well-being and quality of life (QOL). This study explores the intersectionality of disability and coping strategies in Saudi Arabia, a context in which comprehensive research on this topic is scarce. Cultural barriers hinder research participation, and data on the prevalence of disabilities are limited. A cross-sectional design was used to capture the dynamic relationship between coping strategies and QOL. A stratified random sample of 369 children (aged 6-18 years) from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds was studied. QOL was measured using the short form-12 health survey to assess the physical and mental components. Coping strategies were assessed using the validated COPE inventory. A stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed to determine the association between QOL and coping strategies. The significance level was set at a P value of &lt;0.05 throughout the analysis. The findings of this study revealed that participants with auditory problem have shown better QOL as compared to children with other disabilities. Participants with visual problems reported a greater use of emotional support, information support, positive reframing, acceptance, and religious coping. Children with autism were found to use only coping strategies. Participants with intellectual disabilities used behavioral and humorous coping strategies. Participants with auditory problems believed in active coping, denial, and substance abuse. Physical functioning, physical role, bodily pain, emotional role, and physical component summary were found to be significantly and negatively correlated with coping strategies, whereas general health, vitality, social functioning, and mental health were positively and significantly related to coping strategies. Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that emotional support, denial, behavioral disengagement, self-blame, religion, acceptance, humor, and substance abuse were significant predictors of QOL. Overall, the findings of this study emphasize the complexity of addressing the needs of disabled children and the importance of holistic and culturally sensitive approaches in rehabilitation and support programs.

Quality of Life in Children with Cerebral Palsy: The Role of Having Access to Rehabilitation Services

Background: Cerebral palsy (CP) is a neurological motor disability, and children with CP should receive rehabilitation services to achieve their full potential. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore the quality of life (QOL) of children with CP across various domains and to assess the role of access to rehabilitation services on their QOL. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study involving all 126 children aged 4 - 12 with CP and their parents in Saqqez county, Kurdistan province, Iran. The "Physical Rehabilitation Accessibility Assessment Questionnaire" and the "Parental Proxy CP QOL-Child questionnaire" were used to measure the main variables. The analysis performed separately for two subpopulations: 27 children aged 4 - 6 years and 99 children older than six, using SPSS version 23. After prforming Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, the Spearman correlation coefficient was employed to identify correlations. Results: The average age of the participants was 8 ± 2.36 years, with 51 (40.5%) being girls. Of the 126 children with CP, 45 (35.7%) had independent mobility function (GMFCS levels I and II). The mean CP QOL-Child domain scores ranged from 35.3 ± 25.1 in the 'access to services' domain to 74.5 ± 16.1 in the 'Emotional well-being and self-esteem' domain. The average accessibility score was 53.8 ± 22.1. Among children older than 6 years, access to rehabilitation services showed a significant correlation with all CP QOL-Child domain scores (P &lt; 0.05), except for 'social well-being and acceptance.' In children aged 4 - 6 years, only the Family Health domain score was significantly correlated with access to rehabilitation services (r = 0.44, P = 0.021). Conclusions: Access to rehabilitation services is a significant predictor of QOL in children older than 6 years. Further experimental research is needed to examine changes in various aspects of QOL in children with CP following improved access to rehabilitation services.

Examining the Quality of Life and Discrimination Impact on Parents of Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder in Aseer Region, Saudi Arabia: A WHO-QOL Survey.

Background Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disease marked by social and repetitive or restricted behaviors, as well as communication difficulty. Objectives This survey aimed to assess the quality of life (QoL) of parents with ASDs in the Aseer region of Saudi Arabia using the brief form of the World Health Organization (WHO-QOL) questionnaire. Furthermore, we sought to measure the severity of discrimination experienced by parents of children with ASDs and their impact on QoL. Methodology Using a Google form, a cross-sectional study was carried out online between March and April 2023. The patient records from four different regions of Saudi Arabia were used to recruit study participants. The survey was distributed through well-known social media channels (Instagram, Telegram, Facebook). Results A total of 99 parents were included in this study. The Southern region accounted for the bulk of participants (81.8%, n=81), nearly three-fourths of the children were boys (70.7%), mothers were more common among respondents (65.7%, n=65) than fathers, 66.7% of respondents reported being married, and 78.8% fall into the middle economic class category. The main source of information among the studied population was the Internet (39.4%, n=39), followed by relatives (23.0%, n=23), physicians (8.1%, n=9), and finally books (4%, n=4). The mean scores for the various domains are as follows: physical (58.48 ± 13.84), psychological (62.04 ± 18.08), social relations (61.20 ± 23.24), environment (24.12 ± 14.62), general QoL (72.93 ± 4.30), and general health (73.94 ± 4.63). Nearly half (46.5%) of parents have encountered stigma or discrimination toward their child or family. Individuals who reported experiencing discrimination exhibited significantly lower mean scores in multiple QoL domains than those who did not report discrimination for physical (54.11, ± 14.36vs, 62.26±12.28, p=0.003), psychological (55.80 ± 20.33 vs 67.45 ± 13.94, p=0.002), and social relations (55.43± 24.17 vs 66.20 ± 21.40, p=0.022). Multivariate analysis revealed that discrimination was the only significant predictor of QoL (p < 0.001). Conclusions The QoL of parents having a child with autism is low, moreover, the coincidence of discrimination and stigma significantly lowered QoL.

Quality-of-life among women with breast cancer: application of the international classification of functioning, disability and health model.

This study aimed to identify the factors that influence Breast Cancer (BC) women's quality of life (QoL) based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) framework. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 188 women with BC. The dependent variable, QoL, was measured using the Quality of Life Index (QLI-c). The independent variables were measured using the following Arabic-validated questionnaires: Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), Modified Fatigue Impact Scale (MFIS), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). There was a significant positive correlation between monthly income (r = 0.17, p = 0.016) and QoL, and significant negative correlation between the stage of disease (r = -0.221, p = 0.002) and duration of first diagnosis (r = -0.280, p = 0.004) with QoL. Poor sleep quality, sexual dysfunction, fatigue, depression, and anxiety had significant negative correlations with QoL (p < 0.01). Multiple regression analysis revealed that among the various factors that might affect QoL, sexual dysfunction, poor sleep quality, depression, and anxiety were significant predictors of QoL (p ≤ 0.05). The ICF provided an excellent framework to explore the factors influencing QoL among women with BC. This study has given evidence for the relationship of demographic, clinical, and body functional factors with QoL among women with BC. Interestingly, sexual dysfunction, poor sleep quality, depression, and anxiety factors are predictors of QoL. Awareness of these factors that predict QoL will guide healthcare professionals to improve the health and QoL of BC women.

Quality of life among family caregivers of cancer patients: an investigation of SF-36 domains

BackgroundWith improving survival rates, cancer has become more of a chronic disease with long-term palliative care requirements. Thus, it is even more than ever necessary to pay careful attention to the well-being of family caregivers of cancer patients, as cancer trajectory is a challenging path for both patients and their caregivers. This study focusses on ascertaining the level of quality of life (QoL) domains and their attributable significant factors among a population of cancer family caregivers.MethodsThis was a cross-sectional study. The study population consist of caregivers of adult cancer patients in Zanjan, Iran between 2019 and 2020. Medical Outcomes General Health Survey Short Form 36 (SF-36) was the instrument to measure outcome variables. Clinical and basic characteristics of the caregivers and their patients were also collected using a questionnaire designed for this purpose. Data were analyzed using Independent samples t-test, Analysis of Variance, and stepwise linear regression in SPSS v.26.ResultsOf the caregivers 167 were male and 133 were female. The mean age of the participants was 40.77 ± 12.56, most of whom were offspring of the patients (148, 49.3%), married (239, 79.7%), and self-employed (81, 27.0%). both domains of bodily pain (76.50 ± 16.67) and physical functioning (74.88 ± 20.27) showed the highest scores among caregivers. Age and gender of caregivers, duration of caregiving, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status scale as well as type and stage of cancer, and type of treatment were among the significant predictors of QoL domains (All, p < 0.001).ConclusionFindings of the present study substantiated various significant predictors for QoL along with low levels of QoL domains among the caregivers of cancer patients. Securing such findings proves the magnitude of probable unmet needs and psychological challenges in this population and provides the health policy makers with some valuable clues to draw effective strategies to address such issues.

Running alone or in groups? Social capital and quality of life considerations

ABSTRACT This study examines how running participant exercise behaviours such as running alone or in groups moderate the relationship between social capital and quality of life (QoL) along with how demographics characteristics of the participants influence QoL. We analysed 539 running participants’ responses collected on-site in Taiwan. The analysis employed structural equation modelling. The findings suggested whether runners train alone or in groups they see positive benefits from the social capital dimensions of collective action and social connections on their QoL. Demographic characteristics such as age, income and current education status were significant predictors of QoL while running alone was better for males and improved their QoL. Older participants and students running in groups had higher QoL perceptions than the reference groups of their category. Sport managers should boost the opportunities for collective engagement among runners and pursue programmes for enhanced social connections among runners.

20 The Relationship Between Quality of Life, Cognitive Functioning, and Tumor Grade Level in Brain Tumor Patients

Objective:The goal of the current study is to compare QoL between tumor grade levels (i.e., low vs high) as well as the relationship between QoL, cognition, and tumor grade.Participants and Methods:Participants were 156 individuals diagnosed with a brain tumor who completed neuropsychological evaluation within an interdisciplinary brain tumor clinic (mean age=51.67; SD=15.0; mean education=13.98; SD=2.6; 59% male). Independent samples T-Test was utilized to review participants’ reported overall quality of life (QoL) on the FACT-Br in relation to tumor grade level (i.e., high vs low). Linear regression analysis was utilized to determine which cognitive variable may be most predictive of QoL.Results:Results of the Independent T-test demonstrated that low and high tumor grade level groups did not significantly differ in total or individual sub-domain QoL. With regard to the regression analysis, cognitive variables as measured by TMT B, HVLT delayed recall, and FAS accounted for significant variance in quality of life in both low grade and high grade tumor groups (low tumor grade level effect size R2 =0.21; high tumor grade level effect size R2 = 0.19). However, TMT B emerged as a significant predictor of QoL in only the low grade group, while cognitive performance within these same tasks did not significantly predict QoL for the high tumor grade level group.Conclusions:Our findings did not significantly differ in the overall impact tumor grade level (i.e., low vs., high) has on QoL. Notably, cognitive performance on TMT B significantly predicts QoL for the low but not high tumor grade level group.

Relationship Between Coping Strategies and Quality of Life with Mediating Role of Depression and Stigmatization among Patients with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) With Relapse Condition

The current study aims to investigate the relationship between coping strategies and quality of life (QOL) with the mediating role of depression and stigma among patients with opioid use disorder (OUD). In this correlational study, a total sample of 357 participants was taken from different hospitals and rehabilitation centers. The patients (20 to 65 years) who have a history of relapse at least once a time were included. with relapse condition. Demographic form, Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Brief Coping Inventory (BCI), WHO-Quality of Life Scale (WHO-QLS), and Perceived Stigma Scale were used. All the data were scrutinized, and the final data was assessed using SPSS version-26. The findings showed that the direct effect of coping strategies was a significant negative predictor of depression and stigma among patients with opioid use disorder-relapse conditions. Depression and stigma were found to be significant negative predictors of quality of life. Furthermore, the findings reveal that depression and stigma play significant mediating between coping and quality of life among patients with opioid use disorder-relapse condition. It is concluded that coping is a significant predictor of QOL and depression and stigma play significant mediating roles in the increase and decrease of the QOL among patients with OUD.

The associations among executive planning, self-determination, and quality of life in adolescents with intellectual disability.

Skills such as planning and problem solving that are required in self-determination can be cognitively demanding. It has not yet been examined whether executive functions and intelligence are associated with levels of self-determination in individuals with intellectual disability (ID), and how that is related to quality of life (QoL). This study examined the associations among executive functions, intelligence, self-determination, and QoL in adolescents with ID. Seventy-nine adolescents aged between 17 and 20years with mild ID participated in the study. Executive functions were assessed by experimental tasks. Non-verbal IQ and survey data regarding QoL and self-determination capacity were collected from the participants. In a regression model with QoL as the dependent variable, only executive planning and self-determination capacity (but not working memory, inhibition and IQ) were significant predictors of QoL. Two mediation models were tested based on the hypotheses, literature and current findings. Model 1 revealed that executive planning had a negative direct effect on QoL when the mediator, self-determination capacity, was held constant. Model 2 indicated that the significant association between self-determination and QoL was not mediated by executive planning. The findings highlighted the crucial significance of self-determination, in comparison with executive functions and intelligence, for improving the QoL in adolescents with ID. Importantly, higher executive planning skill was even associated with lower QoL if self-determination was not concurrently strengthened. These findings carry implications for the design of education and intervention programmes aimed at improving QoL of adolescents with ID.

Determining the Relationship Between Seizure-Free Days and Other Predictors of Quality of Life in Patients with Dravet Syndrome and Their Carers from FFA Registration Studies.

Dravet syndrome (DS) is a rare, lifelong epileptic encephalopathy characterised by frequent and severe seizures associated with premature mortality. Typically diagnosed in infancy, patients also experience progressive behavioural, motor-function and cognitive decline. Twenty percent of patients do not reach adulthood. Quality of life (QoL) is impaired for both patients and their carers. Reducing convulsive seizure frequency, increasing convulsive seizure-free days (SFDs) and improving patient/carer QoL are primary treatment goals in DS. This study explored the relationship between SFDs and patients' and carers' QoL to inform a cost-utility analysis of fenfluramine (FFA). In FFA registration studies, patients (or their carer proxies) completed the Paediatric QoL inventory (PedsQL). These data were mapped to EuroQol-5 Dimensions Youth version (EQ-5D-Y) to provide patient utilities. Carer utilities were collected using EQ-5D-5L and mapped to EQ-5D-3L to align patient and carer QoL on the same scale. Linear mixed-effects and panel regression models were tested and Hausman tests identified the most appropriate approach for each group. On this basis, a linear mixed-effects regression model was used to examine the relationships between patient EQ-5D-Y and clinically relevant variables (age, frequency of SFDs per 28days, motor impairments and treatment dose). A linear panel regression model examined the relationship between SFDs and carer QoL. After adjustment for age and underlying comorbidities, the patient regression model showed that SFDs per 28days was a significant predictor of QoL. Each additional patient-SFD increased utility by 0.005 (p < 0.001). The carer linear panel model also showed that increasing SFDs per 28days was a significant predictor of improved QoL. Each additional SFD increased carer utility by 0.014 (p < 0.001). This regression framework highlights that SFDs are significantly correlated with both patients' and carers' QoL. Treatment with effective antiseizure medications that increase SFDs directly improves QoL for patients and their carers.

Relationship between Health-promoting practices and the Health-related Quality of Life among Saudi University Students after the COVID-19 Pandemic Lockdown: Cross-sectional Study

Introduction: Promoting healthy living activities among university students is acknowledged as an essential component in health maintenance and improvement. Objectives: This study aims to determine the extent to which Saudi undergraduate students are involved in health-promoting practices after the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. It also investigates how the health-related quality of life (QOL) could be predicted from sociodemographics and health-promoting practices. Methods: This study adopted a descriptive correlational design and a convenience sampling method to recruit 542 Saudi students from 5 governmental universities in multiple Saudi regions between October and December 2022. University students were asked to complete an online survey consisting of sociodemographics, the health-promoting lifestyle profile II (52 Items, 4 points Likert scale), and the WHOQOLscale (26 Items, 5 points Likert scale). Results: In the health-promoting subscales, participants ranked best in spiritual growth (M = 2.79) but worst in physical activity (M = 1.82). Regarding the QOL subscales, participants scored the highest in social relationships (M = 14.32) and the lowest in psychological health (M = 11.36). Multiple linear regression revealed that 19% of the variance in the QOL was explained mainly by health-promoting variables, in which physical activity (β = .20, p &lt; .001) was the strongest predictor. In addition, family income (β = -.14, p &lt; .01), nutrition (β = .12, p &lt; .05), stress management (β = .11, p &lt; .05), and spiritual growth (β = .14, p &lt; .05) were also significant predictors of QOL. Conclusion: Physical activity, nutrition, spiritual growth, and stress management have been found helpful in improving the QOL of Saudi students. Therefore, universities should consider planning curricula and establishing activities that encourage involvement in health-promoting activities.

The impact of personal protective factors on quality of life after traumatic brain injury

ABSTRACT Primary objective Examine the impact of four personal protective factors (self-awareness (SA), self-efficacy (SE), cognitive and emotional factors) on positive adaptation, or resiliency, in persons with traumatic brain injury (TBI). We hypothesized that people with better SA and cognitive skills, less depression and positive SE will report better quality of life (QOL). Research design Correlational longitudinal design was used to explore relationships between outcome variables at initial evaluation and 6-months following initial evaluation Methods and procedures 38 community-dwelling adults at least 1 year after sustaining a moderate-to-severe TBI were administered the Self-Efficacy Scale, Awareness Questionnaire, Chicago Multiscale Depression Inventory, Symbol Digit Modalities Test, and SF-12. Main outcome and results Higher rated SE and emotional functioning correlated with better QOL indicating SE and emotional functioning may be personal factors facilitating positive adaptation in persons with TBI. Interestingly, poorer cognitive functioning (i.e. processing speed) and lower SA correlated with better QOL. Additionally, cognitive and emotional functioning were significant predictors of QOL. Conclusion Strengthening emotional functioning and SE may improve outcomes after TBI. However, it may be that self-reported QoL is a poor outcome for people with TBI and measurement in future studies and practice should focus on actual engagement of activities.

Physical and cognitive function to explain the quality of life among older adults with cognitive impairment: exploring cognitive function as a mediator

BackgroundPhysical and cognitive function are both indicators of aging, characterized by a loss of adaptive response to life challenges and functional limitations, subsequently affecting their quality of life. This study aimed to identify the direct effect of physical function and the indirect effect of cognitive function on the quality of life in older adults with mild cognitive impairment.MethodsThe study participants were 79 older adults recruited from community centers in four urban districts of Korea. All participants completed a self-reported questionnaire for demographic characteristics and outcome variables. Outcome measures included physical function (grip strength, balance, and mobility), cognitive function, and mental and physical components of quality of life (QOL). Statistical analyses were conducted using hierarchical multiple linear regression and the PROCESS macro for mediation analysis.ResultsThe mean age of participants was 77.46 years old with an elementary or lower education level (53.2%). The mean score of cognitive function was 16.39 (SD = 6.5). Physical function (grip strength, balance, mobility) and cognitive function explained 25% of the variance in physical (p = 0.004) and 29% in mental (p < 0.001) components of QOL after controlling for age, sex, and education level. Mobility was associated with both physical (β=-0.27, p = 0.024) and mental (β=-0.36, p = 0.002) components of QOL. The cognitive function partially mediated the relationship between balance and the physical component of QOL; the proportion of mediation was 55%.ConclusionIn conclusion, physical and cognitive function were significant predictors of QOL in older adults with cognitive impairment. Specifically, balance has significant indirect effects on the physical component of QOL through cognitive function as a mediator. Health-promoting strategies could be more effective when focusing on the direct effect of physical function as well as the mediating effect of cognitive function to promote the quality of life in this population.

This paper aims to: (a) determine the personal, sociodemographic, clinical, behavioural, and social characteristics of older Brazilians with clinical evidence of long COVID; (b) evaluate perceived quality of life and determine its association with personal, sociodemographic, behavioural, clinical and social variables; and (c) assess significant predictors of high perceived QoL. Given the inherent vulnerabilities of the ageing process, the older people are an at-risk group for both contagion of SARS-CoV-2 and the perpetuation of residual symptoms after infection, the so-called long COVID or post-COVID syndrome. A cross-sectional survey design using the STROBE checklist. Brazilian older people with long COVID syndrome (n= 403) completed a phone survey measuring personal, sociodemographic, behavioural, clinical, and social characteristics, and perceived Quality of Life (QoL). Data were collected from June 2021-March 2022. A multiple linear regression model was performed to identify salient variables associated with high perceived QoL. The mean age of participants was 67.7 ± 6.6 years old. The results of the multivariate regression model showed that race, home ownership, daily screen time, musculoskeletal and anxiety symptoms, and work situation were the significant predictors of QoL among COVID-19 survivors. Knowledge about the persistence of physical, emotional, and social symptoms of COVID-19 can help nurses and other healthcare providers to improve the management of survivors, bringing benefits to the whole society. Given the novelty of long-COVID and its heterogeneous trajectory, interventions focusing on the repercussions and requirements unique to more vulnerable older persons should be developed and these aspects should be included in public health recommendations and policymakers' concerns. No patient or public contribution was required to design, to outcome measures or undertake this research. Patients/members of the public contributed only to the data collection.

The quality of life in patients with multiple sclerosis - Association with depressive symptoms and physical disability: A prospective and observational study.

Patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) experience disabilities which significantly affect their quality of life (QOL) and mental health. Mood disorders and depressive symptoms are one of the most common psychiatric conditions in MS patients. This study aimed to evaluate the level of QOL in MS patients and to assess the influence of depressive symptoms and physical disability on QOL. This prospective and observational study was conducted among 100 MS patients (mean age of 36.23 ± 11.77) recruited from the Lower Silesian Unit of the Polish Association for Multiple Sclerosis. This study used a questionnaire designed by the authors, which contained questions about sociodemographic and clinical data, as well as the following standardized questionnaires: the Activities of Daily Living questionnaire (ADL), the Instrumental Activities of Daily Living questionnaire (IADL), the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Multiple Sclerosis International Quality of Life Questionnaire (MusiQOL). The average EDSS score among patients was 3.13 ± 2.38 points. More than half of the respondents (68%) suffered from depression of varying severity. The univariate linear regression models showed that the independent (p < 0.05) QOL predictors (total MusiQOL) were as follows: the number of complaints, IADL results, BDI results, EDSS score, higher education, and material status >2000 PLN. In addition, the multiple linear regression model showed that the BDI result was a significant predictor of QOL (p < 0.005). Depressive symptoms significantly affect the QOL of MS patients.

Does Quality of Care (QoC) Perception Influence the Quality of Life (QoL) in Women with Endometriosis? Results from an Italian Nationwide Survey during Covid Pandemic

(1) Background: Endometriosis is a chronic and progressive illness that generates a slew of issues, lowering the quality of life of women. The purpose of this study was to look at the quality of life in women with endometriosis and how it relates to the quality of care. (2) Methods: This study is an online survey performed in Italy during the COVID pandemic using the Italian version of the Health Questionnaire SF-36 and a questionnaire for assessing the quality of care received. (3) Results: 1052 women with a self-reported diagnosis of endometriosis participated in the survey. The mean levels of Physical Component Summary (PCS) and Mental Component Summary (MCS) were 38.89 ± 10.55 and 34.59 ± 11.17, respectively. A total of 77% of women judged the services they received positively, and 51% considered the coordination between healthcare professionals to be satisfactory. The satisfaction index mean was 23.11 ± 4.80. PCS was positively related to Occupation, high educational level, physical activity, and health care satisfaction. MCS was positively related to higher age, physical activity, and health care satisfaction. (4) Conclusions: The study indicated that satisfaction with health care was a significant predictor of QoL in women with endometriosis, for both physical and mental health.
