Preface for the STS37 XXXVII Siberian Thermophysical Seminar JoP volume XXXVII Siberian STS37 XXXVII Siberian Thermophysical Seminar S. V. Alekseenko, D. M. Markovich, D. Ph. In 2021, the Seminar was dedicated to the Year of Science and Technology of the Russian Federation and the 60th anniversary of the first human flight into space. The organizing committee sincerely hopes that the XXXVII Siberian Thermophysical Seminar helped to attract young scientists to solve urgent scientific problems, and stay in the Novosibirsk Academgorodok and at the Institute of Thermophysics left many positive emotions and pleasant impressions.The present Seminar covered the following topics: turbulent flows in single-phase media; heat transfer enhancement; transfer processes in physical and chemical transformations including combustion; aerogasdynamics and thermophysics in space applications; hydrodynamics, heat and mass transfer, and wave processes in multiphase media; heat and mass transfer during phase transitions; thermophysical problems of power engineering, energy efficiency, and energy-saving; thermal physics of micro- and nanosystems, processes in rarefied gases and plasma; thermophysical properties of substances and radiant heat transfer; heat transfer and hydrodynamics in technological processes and environmental protection; calculation fundamentals and constructing principles of energy systems based on the effect of superconductivity. The proceedings contain 171 papers grouped by topics.The Scientific Committee of the Seminar highly appreciates the great work of the editorial board and reviewers in preparing this volume. Родословная бурят хоринского рода харгана: на материале тибетоязычной автобиографии Галсан-Жинбы Дылгырова (1816–1872?)

Introduction. In the modern Buryat society, the knowledge of one’s own history, roots, culture, and language is becoming increasingly important. There is also a growing interest in genealogical research as many have started to search for data about their ancestors and their family trees in various archives. To illustrate, one may mention an increasing number of requests made for materials on the lineage and pedigrees of Buryats kept in the Center of Oriental Manuscripts and Xylographs of the Institute for Mongolian, Buddhist, and Tibetan Studies of the Siberian Branch of the RAS. The aims of the present article are, firstly, to add to the data on the Khargana clan of Khori Buryats and, secondly, to investigate the background of Galsan-Zhinba Dylgirov (1816–1872?), an outstanding Buryat religious enlightener of the nineteenth century. The research is based on textological, comparative-historical and historical-biographical methods. Data. The article draws on the evidence contained in Dylgirov’s autobiography written in Tibetan in 1864-1872 and xylographed in the Tsugol Datsan. Dylgirov’s lineage is cited in the first chapter of the book and could be read only by few of those who were literate in Tibetan. Results. The lineage goes back to eight generations, including Dylgirov himself, and covers over 150 years. The origin of the family associates with the ancestor known as Shonoguleg who lived at the turn of the eighteenth century. Of particular interest are also legends and stories that supplement the family history. The examination of the lineage sheds light on the origin of the ethnonym Baatarzhan, a branch of the Khargana clan. Also, the family history contains new data on the Buryat self-governing administration before the first third of the nineteenth century. Clearly, the data of Dylgirov’s autobiography may be useful for further genealogical research.

Historical aspects of land melioration development in West Siberia

The article presents a historical review of scientific and practical materials about the development of soil melioration projects in West Siberia, emphasizing the need for their comprehensive research support. The article describes the methodology and means for studying and implementing land melioration projects developed by researchers in various fields, representing combined efforts of Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, V.V. Dokuchaev Soil Science Institute and A.N. Kostyakov Russian Research Institute of Hydrological Engineering and Melioration.

The conference “Optical Methods of Flow Investigation” (OMFI) has been regularly held since 1989 at intervals of 2 years. The All-Union Seminar was held in 1989, I and II All-Union Conferences (founder – Institute of Thermal Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences) was held in 1991 and 1993. Since 1995, conferences have been held at the Moscow Power Engineering Institute (MPEI) under the auspices of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the co-founders were MPEI and the Institute of Thermophysics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Since 2019 Scientific and Technological Center of Unique Instrumentation of the Russian Academy of Sciences has also become a co-organizer of the conference.This issue of the Journal is devoted to research and studies presented at the XVI International Scientific and Technical Conference “Optical Methods of Flow Investigation” (OMFI-2021). The conference was held in Moscow Power Engineering Institute, Moscow, Russia, on 28 June – 02 July 2021. The National Research University “Moscow Power Engineering Institute” is one of the leading technical universities in Russia having about 15,000 students from more than 60 countries. MPEI is one of the largest technical universities in Russia. It provides the specialist’s training and scientific research in the field of energy, electrical engineering, radio electronics, computer engineering.The conference brought together experts from different organizations to initiate discussions on topics that are of interest to the conference attendees. On October 26, 2021, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Sergeevich Isaev would have turned 90. A. S. Isaev was doctor of biological sciences, professor, member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, director of V. N. Sukachev Institute of Forest Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences USSR (1977–1988), chairman of USSR State Committee of Forestry (1988–1991), creator and the first director of CEPF RAS (1991–2004), scientific advisor of CEPF RAS (2004–2018), chairman of the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences on forests (until 2018), editor-in-chief «Russian Journal of Forest Science» (1980–2018).

The Influence of Hydrogeological Factors on the Railway Stability in the Areas of Island Permafrost Distribution (by the Example of the Trans-Baikal Railway, Russia)

Changes in the geocryological situation at the road base and in the adjacent territory should be predicted based on an analysis of regional features of the “climate – landscape – cryolithozone – construction” system. These relationships are manifested in various ways across various cryolithozone regions, with these differences being rather poorly understood. In this regard, in 2019, the Melnikov Permafrost Institute (Yakutsk, Russia) and the Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences signed an agreement on joint research work in order to elucidate the evolution of frozen soils, as well as to justify the application of certain measures to stabilise the permafrost environment. These projects aim to study the cryolithozone response along the routes of projected high-speed highways and existing railway tracks. Since 2019, the Institutes’ representatives along with specialists from the Tynda permafrost station (the branch of Russian Railways), North-Eastern Federal University (Neryungri, Russia), Zabtransproekt (Chita, Russia) and the Institute of Natural Resources, Ecology and Cryology of the Siberian Branch of RAS (Chita, Russia) have been investigating individual sections of the Far Eastern and Trans-Baikal railways in Russia. Some areas here are characterised by the continuous distribution of permafrost soils, while others – by island permafrost distribution. These areas share such common features, as the significant lifetime of linear structures (lasting for several tens of years) and the presence of deformations of the railway track, which appeared in the first years after construction. Railway track sections installed in high-temperature frozen soils are of particular interest for monitoring. However, the construction deformations are not always caused by frozen soil degradation. This article presents the results of surveys at one of such objects – a section of the track confined to the Chernovskaya station of the Trans-Baikal railway.

Archaeological Heritage of the Mariinsk Forest-Steppe in Russian Museums

The article summarizes scattered data on the archaeological artifacts found in the forest-steppe of the Mariinsk area of Kuzbass and exhibited in various Russian museums. Kuzbass owes most of its archeological heritage to the Mariinsk forest-steppe. The present research made it possible to expand the source base for the corpus of archaeological sites in Kuzbass and introduce some new data about valuable artifacts from Kuzbass that are kept in museums all over Russia. The one and a half century of Mariinsk excavations can be divided into three periods. No items from the first period, i.e. the last quarter of XIX century, remained in Kuzbass museums. Artifacts from the second period are distributed between the Kuzbass State Museum of Local History, the Kemerovo State University Museum, and the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Other archaeological collections from Mariinsk are to be found in the following museums: the State Historical Museum, the Hermitage, the museums of Archeology and Ethnography of Tomsk and Kemerovo State Universities, and the Museums of Local History of Kuzbass, Mariinsk, Leninsk-Kuznetskiy, and Tisul. The collections present a valuable source of new information about the history of Southern Siberia.

Nitric acid solution after treating miscanthus as a growth regulator of seed peas (Pisum sativum L.)

Abstract: All over the world, miscanthus is positioned as an extremely promising and rapidly renewable cellulose- containing raw material for the production of a large number of substances of chemical and biotechnological synthesis. The Institute for Problems of Chemical and Energetic Technologies of the Siberian Branch оf the Russian Academy of Sciences has been developing its own methods of treating miscanthus using diluted solutions of nitric acid. While the amount of a waste solution (liquid phase) is 20 times greater than the target product — a solid phase -- intended for enzymatic hydrolysis and further microbiological synthesis of bioethanol, bacterial cellulose and other valuable products. The hypothesis states that a nitric acid solution after treatment with miscanthus, which was neutralized with ammonium hydrate (hereinafter referred to as the preparation), is a combined lignohumic fertilizer. Testing this hypothesis has required studying the growth-regulating activity of the preparation using the example of sowing pea seeds. The results show that, depending on the degree of dilution and the exposure time, the preparation acts in two ways: either as a stimulant or as a growth inhibitor. Thus, at a dilution rate of 1:10, the preparation acts as an inhibitor, and at a dilution rate of 1:1,000,000, its effect ceases. The working range includes the dilution rate between 1:100 and 1:10,000, when an increase in germination energy and rate is observed by 2–6% compared to the control and root growth is stimulated by 21–29%, i.e. an auxin-like growth-stimulating effect is observed. With prolonged endurance during the 4th day, the preparation showed a growth-inhibiting effect, indicated by the decrease in the germination energy and rate, the length of the stems and roots of the sowing pea. The new preparation showing growth-stimulating activity under certain conditions, supposedly confirms the hypothesis that it is a combined lignohumic fertilizer.

Buddhology and modern civilization [peer review of:] Buddhist Studies. Theologicak Almanac / Ed. by L. E. Yangutov. Ulan-Ude: BSC SB RAS, 2020. Issue 3, p. 280

The third issue of the theological almanac “Buddhist Studies” was published in December 2020 under the Institute of Mongolian, Buddhist, and Tibetan Studies of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The issue retains the traditional structure of the annual book, which covers the problems of philosophy and soteriology, history of Buddhism, its historiography, translations of Buddhist texts, and other aspects of Buddhist teaching, as well as noteworthy events in life of the Institute and Buddhology overall. The peer review covers the central scientific problems, which manifest as the subject of research in the almanac and their importance for modern Buddhology. Brief analysis is conducted on the content of the journal and the fundamental theoretical problems brought up therein. It is indicated that Buddhism, as the world religion and philosophy, is oriented towards the formation of spiritual personality, traditional moral-ethical values, such as compassion, mercy, tolerance, peacefulness, etc. Such personality model deeply contrasts with the selfish consumer personality that is oriented towards wealth and sensual pleasure formed by the modern liberal-capitalist system. As a result of escalating moral-ethical crisis that takes place in modern society, and search for the ways to overcome it, attention of the researchers is drawn to the traditional spiritual teachings; therefore, Buddhology plays an important role in promoting the traditional spiritual values and countering the modern all-round crisis of the liberal model.

Preface

The origins of the Conference start from 1970 in the Soviet Union, Novosibirsk. It was organized by Kutateladze Institute of Thermophysics SB RAS. The name of the conference was «Actual problems of thermophysics and physical hydrodynamics». The conference has been organized under this name up to 2015. The conference chairs were academicians of RAS V. E. Nakoryakov, S. V. Alekseenko and D. M. Marckovich. Peer reviewed proceedings of the conference have been published in the format of printed books. In 2016 the conference is reorganized in a new format with a shorter name: «Thermophysics and physical hydrodynamics» (TPH2021). The proceedings of the renewal Conference were published in the Journal of physics: conference series. The conference was held jointly with the scientific youth school «Thermophysics and Physical Hydrodynamics: Modern Challenges» (TPHMC2021). The scientific school is a lecture intensive. Invited lecturers – famous scientists and specialists from all over Russia talk about the achievements of their groups, teams, organizations. The subsequent work of young scientists in the sections of TPH2021 provides an opportunity to look at the challenges facing science in detail, ask questions, and get answers that can give an impetus to the development of their own research.The conference takes place in Sevastopol, a beautiful and honor city in Crimea on the bank of the Black Sea. Role of toll-like receptors in complications of cardiac surgery for congenital heart defects in children

Background. Cardiac surgery in combination with hypothermia, ischaemia and reperfusion leads to an inflammatory response causing postoperative complications. Toll-like receptors are signalling molecules through which some functions of innate immunity can be activated, and polymorphic variants in the TLR-family genes can be predictors of complications after cardiac surgery.Aim. To study the associations of TLR-family genes with infectious and non-infectious complications of cardiac surgery for congenital heart defects.Methods. The study included 89 children (44 girls and 45 boys) with congenital heart defects who underwent cardiac surgery. Complications occurred in 47 children 47 days after cardiac surgery. There were no complications in 42 children. Genotyping was performed by real-time PCR using TaqMan probes.Results. A two-locus model of gene-gene interaction between TLR1 rs5743551 and TLR2 rs3804099 was the best fit, accounting for 4.01% of phenotypic entropy. The TLR2 gene polymorphic variant rs5743708 had the highest predictive potential (2.59%).Conclusion. The development of postoperative complications of cardiac surgical treatment for congenital heart defects can be due to the synergistic effect of the polymorphic variants rs5743551 in the TLR1 gene and rs3804099 in the TLR2 gene. This effect occurs through the features of TLR1 and TLR2 transcription, the subsequent expression of receptors on cells and signalling which activates the synthesis of proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines.Received 25 February 2021. HALF A CENTURY OF HYDROBIOLOGICAL RESEARCH (celebrating 90th anniversary since the birth of O. M. Kozhova, hydrobiologist and researcher of Baikal)

The article presents the main biographical information about O. M. Kozhova, algologist, ecologist, and Baikal researcher, who has contributed significantly to the study of the evolution and functional mechanisms of aquatic ecosystems in Eastern Siberia and Mongolia. Her life was connected with the Baikal Limnological Station of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Limnological Institute of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Irkutsk State University and its Institute of Biology. O. M. Kozhova continued the work of her father, Professor M. M. Kozhov. She has perpetuated the Irkutsk and Soviet hydrobiological science schools and empowered them with young professionals. In the 1990s, a time of trials for our science and the country, O. M. Kozhova managed to preserve the Institute of Biology and its staff, and developed promising areas of basic hydrobiological research. O. M. Kozhova left behind a scientific legacy of 706 published and 211 unpublished papers.

Development of Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences scientific book publishing system (2001–2010)

The study of scientific book publishing, due to its enormous social and state significance, is an urgent task of modern research. This article is the first to consider the system of scientific book publishing in the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SB RAS) in the period of 2001–2010 thus determining and adding to the history of regional and Russian scientific book publishing. The purpose of the study is to present the development of the system for publishing scientific literature in the SB RAS during this period. The source base of the study is representative: these are numerous documents of the current archives of the Siberian enterprise “Nauka” RAS (Novosibirsk Printing House No. 4) and the Siberian Publishing Company “Nauka” RAS, regulatory acts of the Presidium of SB RAS, Annotated thematic plans for the release of scientific literature for 2002-2010, Publishing houses of SB RAS, materials of the weekly newspaper SB RAS “Science in Siberia” for the same period.The revealed data allow reconstructing the picture of the scientific book publishing system development in SB RAS and its thematic orientation in the first decade of the XXI century. The results obtained show that the prevailing part of published scientific literature – every third edition – during this period was on archeology, history, philology, philosophy, law.The study refined quantitative data on the release of serial publications, revealed the role of the Presidium SB RAS in developing the system of scientific book publishing, expanded the idea of cooperation between SB RAS and SIF “Nauka” RAS.The results obtained provide an opportunity to redefine and assess the evolution of their relationship during the period under review. The continuing decrease in the share of CIF in the total volume of publications of SB RAS can be interpreted as the crisis increase, but the implementation of significant and complex publishing projects speaks for a new paradigm of relations between them: mutually beneficial, effective and promising.

Ferns at the digital herbarium of the Central Siberian Botanical Garden SB RAS.

BackgroundAccording to the data in Index Herbariorum as of 1 December 2020, there are 3426 active herbaria in the world, containing 396,204,891 specimens and 124 herbaria in Russia with more than 16,175,000 specimens. The Central Siberian Botanical Garden of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (CSBG SB RAS, Novosibirsk), founded in 1946, historically has two herbarium collections (NS and NSK). Currently these collections contain about 800,000 herbarium specimens comprising vascular plants, mosses, lichens and fungi gathered from all over the world. Digitisation of the NSK type specimens of vascular plants began in 2014 by using the special scanner Herbscan. In 2018, we started digitisation of the NS and NSK collections by using ObjectScan 1600.Pteridophytes (ferns, lycophytes and their extinct free-sporing relatives) are a diverse group of plants that today comprises approximately 12,900 species and plays a major role in terrestrial ecosystems. All herbarium specimens of ferns, collected over 170 years between 1851 and 2021 and stored in the NS and NSK collections, were digitised in 2021, placed at the CSBG SB RAS digital Herbarium (http://herb.csbg.nsc.ru:8081) and published through GBIF. Twenty families of Polypodiopsida, but not Equisetaceae, were included in this dataset. In the dataset specimens from 43 countries of Europe, Asia, America, Africa and Australia (Oceania), 89% of them from Russia, are presented.

A spontaneous intergeneric hybrid of Sorbus and Cotoneaster – Pozdnyakov’s sorbocotoneaster (× Sorbocotoneaster pozdnjakovii Pojark.) is an endemic of the South Yakutia. It is known from the river basin Aldan in the areafrom the city of Tommot to the mouth of the river Uchura and on the Aldan-Amga interfluve. It grows in the undergrowthof sparse pine and larch forests on stony-gravelly limestone slopes. It was first found by L. K. Pozdnyakov, a forester,an employee of the Institute of Forest of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, on September 9, 1950,when examining forests on permafrost in Yakutia: “in the area of the confluence of the Aya-Sullalah river into Aldan,105–110 km down the Aldan from Tommot” (from the letter of L. K. Pozdnyakov to A. T. Grevtsova, 1982). The article provides data on the origin of the specimens × Sorbocotoneasters, the morphological description of leaves, flowers, fruits,the peculiarities of growth and development in conditions of Kiev, micrographs of pollen grains, micrographs of theendocarp of fruits of three forms, the beginning of the destruction of the scutellum and hypostyle from the ventral side ina hybrid of the third form. Botanical Garden named after acad. A. V. Fomin of the Taras Shevchenko National Universityof Kiev is the only ex situ conservation site in Eastern Europe of the unique Yakut hybrid × Sorbocotoneaster pozdnjakoviiwith leaves of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd forms.

A study of the dependence between fuel consumption of a heat gas turbine and variation of heat loading of regional consumers having various climatic conditions taking into account determination of structural characteristics of heat exchanging equipment for grid water heating

The aim was to optimize the dependence between fuel consumption and heat loading of regional consumers varied due to climatic conditions, taking into account the determination of structural characteristics of heat exchanging equipment for grid water heating in a heat gas turbine. A heat gas turbine comprising two fuel combustion chambers, a waste-heat boiler and a contact heat exchanger to heat makeup grid water was investigated. Scheme and parametric optimization studies were carried out using a mathematic model of a gas turbine created using a software and hardware system developed at the Department of Heat Power Systems of the Melentiev Energy Systems Institute, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Th turbine operating conditions differing in heat loads in four suggested operating regions were studied. It was found that an increase in fuel consumption in the second combustion chamber was 29%– 84% compared to that in the first combustion chamber. This rise was recorded when the turbine heat loading was increasing in the considered regions. Data analysis of the scheme and parametric optimization studies showed that, for operating conditions with a higher heat loading, it seems reasonable to ensure the maximum possible heating of makeup grid water as the loading rises. It is also recommended to slightly increase the heat surface area of the makeup grid water heater whose structural materials are less expensive than in a waste-heat boiler. It was shown that the suggested technical solution slightly increases specific capital investments while fully providing electrical and heat power to consumers. The obtained results can be used to select optimal technical solutions ensuring competitiveness in the operation of a heat gas turbine in regions with various climatic characteristics.
