This discussion argues that the naming of landmarks, the most influential among city image factors, should pursue refinement in function words rather than content words. Previous studies were rich regarding the landmark itself, but on naming were almost absent. In that sense, this discussion redefined the influence of landmark naming as city image theory, brand naming theory, and semiotic theory as means of refinement. The substantive discussion was conducted by collecting citizens’ opinions in two cities with landmarks each named by content word and function word. As a result, it was interpreted that the refinement, as a function word, should use a name closer to beforehand. The reason for this can be interpreted as the retention of a period of time to think about naming a landmark to sufficiently get the expectation of longing for it. In the end, the refinement of naming landmarks as an influential city image factor of the city is to be considered as a function word that leaves a longing feeling of wanting to watch the actual work of art just by calling the name of the work of art.
