Getting Ready To Conduct Scientific Writing: Academic Search Engine As Personal Learning Environment (PLE) Assistance

At the point when the students are assessed, they are demanded to work to publish scientific writing. This study investigates the process of constructing scientific writing as well as the academic search engine that is frequently used by graduate students in building their papers. Later on, this study also discloses the factor of using repeated platforms. A personal learning environment helps the students to connect both inside and outside the classroom learning by employing digital tools. This paper presents a case study exploring the steps of conducting scientific writing, the academic search engine mostly used by students, and the factors in deciding the platform. Eighteen graduate students majoring in the English education department were the participants of this study. The data was collected through class observation, questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews. The result shows several steps to construct scientific writing including readiness, composing the article, getting ready for publication, distribution, and development. While Google Scholar (100%), Web of Science (94.7%), and online library (63.2%) are the top three online platforms as the academic search engine they used to search for references to build arguments for their scientific writing. Some factors why those platforms become highly beneficial are exposed by the participants such as their pertinence, reference quality, and publication impact. This study is expected to provide certain considerations for students or scholars about utilizing several online platforms and some reasons behind which is beneficial to build scientific writing publications.

Training and Assistance in Scientific Writing and Maximizing the Use Of Mendeley For Teacher Of Smp Negeri 1 Bungoro, Pangkep District

School teachers need scientific papers in proposing their promotion. However, in general, teachers are still constrained by their ability to write scientific papers. They still do not understand in writing scientific papers. Therefore, they need help to get out of the problem. The Research and Community Service Institute of Hasanuddin University held training and assistance in writing scientific papers and maximizing the use of Mendeley for teachers of SMP Negeri 1 Bungoro Pangkep Regency with the aim of 1) increasing the motivation of teachers of SMP Negeri 1 Bungoro Pangkep in writing scientific papers, 2) SMP Negeri 1 Bunggoro teachers can write scientific articles. The method used is training with lecture and question and answer methods. As for assistance, the discussion method is used through the zoom application. The results of the research show that 1) teachers are motivated to write scientific papers and 2) teachers are encouraged to write scientific papers as evidenced by the number of entries in their research.

Exploring the Boundaries of Reality: Investigating the Phenomenon of Artificial Intelligence Hallucination in Scientific Writing Through ChatGPT References.

Background Chatbots are computer programs that use artificial intelligence (AI) and natural language processing (NLP) to simulate conversations with humans. One such chatbot is ChatGPT, which uses the third-generation generative pre-trained transformer (GPT-3) developed by OpenAI. ChatGPT has been praised for its ability to generate text, but concerns have been raised about its accuracy and precision in generating data, as well as legal issues related to references. This study aims to investigate the frequency of AI hallucination in research proposals entirely drafted by ChatGPT. Methodology An analytical design was employed to investigate AI hallucination by ChatGPT. A total of 178 references listed by ChatGPT were verified for inclusion in the study. Statistical analysis was performed by five researchers who entered their data into a Google Form, and the final results were represented using pie charts and tables. Results Out of the 178 references analyzed, 69 references did not have a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), and 28 references neither turned up on Google search nor had an existing DOI. Three references were listed from books and not research articles. These observations suggest that ChatGPT's ability to generate reliable references for research topics may be limited by the availability of DOI and the accessibility of online articles. Conclusions The study highlights the potential limitations of ChatGPT's ability to generate reliable references for research proposals. AI hallucination is a problem that may negatively impact decision-making and may give rise to ethical and legal problems. Improving the training inputs by including diverse, accurate, and contextually relevant data sets along with frequent updates to the training models could potentially help address these issues. However, until these issues are addressed, researchers using ChatGPT should exercise caution in relying solely on the references generated by the AI chatbot.

The Effect of Scaffolding Prompting Questions on Scientific Writing Skills in the Inquiry Classroom

Scientific writing is an essential skill as an indicator to determine the ability to analyze and reflect on the results of thinking. However, students often experience difficulties in developing writing skills. This study tried a solution by applying inquiry learning by assisting with scaffolding prompting questions. The aims of this study is to analyze the effect of the scaffolding prompting questions in guided inquiry learning on scientific writing skills. The type of this research is a quasi-experiment conducted in senior high school. Science learning is conducted in two classes; experiment and control class with different treatments. The experiment class implemented guided inquiry learning assisted by a scaffolding prompting question, while the control class was taught with guided inquiry learning without scaffolding. Scientific writing skills are obtained from the evaluation of practicum reports that students have done after being trained for three lessons. The results of statistical tests on scientific writing skills using the independent sample t-test showed that the scientific writing skills of the experimental class students differed from the control class. Then, it can be concluded that the scaffolding prompting question in guided inquiry learning significantly influences scientific writing skills.

Journalistic-Based Scientific Writing Training Management Model for Madrasah Aliyah Teachers

The purpose of this study was to find a good academic writing training management model for teachers of MAN 1 Bandar Lampung so that it can improve the professional competence of teachers. This study uses an approach with the ADDIE development model. The research subjects totaled 10 (ten) respondents in the preliminary study and 20 (twenty) people as training participants. Data collection used questionnaires, interviews, observation, and documentation. Then, the results were analyzed using an inductive method: data analysis, which proceeds from facts to theory. The results of this study were that training in writing journalistic-based scientific papers for teachers of MAN 1 Bandar Lampung was successful, and the skills of writing scientific papers based on journalism for teachers of MAN 1 Bandar Lampung could be improved. Based on these conclusions, a scientific writing journalism training management model was found with five stages: determining training needs, designing training, developing training designs, implementing the developed training designs, and evaluating training.

This community service program aims to improve the skills of teachers in transferring scientific writing media into digital books by utilizing the issues digital publishing platform. Implementing this service used training and technical assistance for teachers at Madrasah Ibtidayah (MI) Manggarupi, Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) Manggarupi, and SMA PGRI Sungguminasa starting from creating an ISSUU account to publishing works. The instrument for evaluating this activity used the Context, Input, Process, and Product (CIPP) model. The training questionnaire was given via Google Form and analyzed descriptively. The result of this service activity was an increase in the ability of teachers to publish their scientific writings through digital publishing platforms. Teachers experienced the benefits of using a digital edition publishing platform to support school learning activities. The platform could also be a forum for students in these schools to publish their writings and works.

ABSTRACGonggong Building and Boenda Gardens are two symbols that represent uniqueness of Tanjungpinang City. The Gonggong Building and Boenda Laman Park had a number of issues, according to the researchers' early findings, there were still water puddles in various locations, especially during the rainy season, and buildings that began to experience damage. This study aims to determine the description of the sanitation of the Gonggong Building & Taman Laman Boenda tourist attraction, Tanjungpinang City, Riau Islands Province in 2022. The study was carried out in January 2022-July 2022. The objects of this study were environmental conditions, conditions of sanitation facilities, and conditions of buildings. The data of each variable were analyzed descriptively referring to the regulations of DITJEN P2PM and PLP No. 47 of 1999, presented in the form of tables and narratives. The results showed that the condition of the physical environment (80%) and the condition of the sanitation facilities (76.82%) had met the sanitation requirements of a tourist attraction, while the condition of the building (56.6%) did not meet the sanitation requirements of a tourist attraction because the total score was less than the minimum. 60% of the total score obtained. Design Online Project-Base Learning for Learning to Write Scientific Works in Arts and Culture Education

The purpose of this study is to design a project-based learning model specifically for academic writing in the field of arts and culture in the Scientific Writing course. This research is in the form of learning design research. The design model adopted is a Backward Course Design, the model is designed by positioning the learning outcomes as the starting point for preparing the design. Data analysis was carried out by reviewing teaching material documents and learning model syntax. The design results obtained based on the phases are (1) the real form of learning outcomes in the form of articles in national scientific journals, (2) an evaluation method for assessing process performance and two forms of assessing project results, and (3) an instructional methodology that combines project-based learning syntax, syntax learning academic writing, and lecture syntax for 16 meetings. The resulting learning design is a best practice recommendation to support the teaching of cultural arts academic writing, especially for online learning.

Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is a dual-focused approach to teaching an additional language through a particular subject. CLIL as a concept is mostly and very effectively used within bilingual education. CLIL as a methodology provides teachers with very creative means to prepare course materials. Our PhD course, Scientific Writing in English includes biomedical students who need specific knowledge and skills when writing their PhD dissertation. The course material was developed using CLIL, taking students’ specific interests and needs into consideration. Their scientific writing needs to focus on simplicity with clear-cut, to-the-point sentences while using similar structures and improving their field-specific linguistic intelligence. Their choice of language affects their success in conveying the message of their research outcome. The course material was built by using the structure of the revised Bloom’s Taxonomy starting each lesson with the engagement of lower-order thinking skills and widening the focus towards higher-order ones. Students’ receptive and productive skills are activated while their expertise in the given topic improves. According to students’ feedback, the interactivity of the lesson aids comprehension, and the structure helps digest the topic. However, their habits of receiving content in a frontal lecture-style way make them less open to new styles and strategies for processing material.

How Competence of Production, Attention, Retention, Motivation, and Innovation can Improve Students’ Scientific Writing Skills

This research aimed to prove the role of production, attention, retention, motivation, and innovation in students’ scientific writing skills at the Islamic Study College (PTAI) in Cirebon. This experimental research used a quasi-experimental design and a nonequivalent control group design. The experiment was conducted in two groups, experiment and control groups. The research samples included Lecturers from a public Islamic University. The experiment group samples were 38 students of the Philosophy of Religion Department. The control group consisted of 33 Islamic Guidance and Counseling Department students. The collection technique used was tested, comprised of a pretest and posttest. The two groups were given the same tests (pretest and posttest), and the results were compared. The instrument used in this research was a test. Validity determination for the scientific writing ability variable was not measured statistically but through construct validity. The reliability test resulted in a reliability coefficient from an assessor of 0.82, while all assessors' average rating reliability coefficient was 0.93. The normality test results on scientific writing ability data with the control class show Lo = 0.106 < Lt = 0.154. Meanwhile, the normality test on the experiment class’s scientific writing ability data results in a maximum Lo of 0.106 and Lt = 0.144. The balance test results show the score of tcount = 1.51 < ttable = 1.67. The data analysis with t independent test resulted in the score of tcount > ttable (10.45 > 1.65). This shows that the competence of production, attention, retention, motivation, and innovation can improve students’ scientific writing skills.
