With an intention to improve performance characteristics of the savonius hydrokinetic turbine several modifications were made on the geometrical parameters of the savonius turbine. Though modifications were done on geometrical parameters of savonius turbine but the power coefficient of the savonius turbine didn’t increase compared to the horizontal axis turbines. Augmentation devices are the best alternative to increase the power coefficient of savonius hydrokinetic turbine. Augmentation devices are very effective compared to the other design parameters of savonius hydrokinetic turbine. In this paper, various augmentation devices were used to increase the power coefficient of the modified fixed flip type savonius hydrokinetic turbine. The augmentation devices are used in the present work are, flat deflector, inclined deflector, convergent guide box, convergent–divergent guide box, and Nozzle. The power coefficient was improved with the use of augmentation devices whereas it was very less without augmentation devices. Two deflector with an angle inclination of 45° and 15° has shown maximum power coefficient of 0.54. Modified four bladed fixed flip savonius hydrokinetic turbine without augmentation arrangement shown the, maximum power coefficient of 0.173.
