Determinants of inpatient satisfaction and hospital recommendation: experiences from a cross-sectional study of a tertiary general hospital in China

ObjectivesThis study aims to investigate the satisfaction levels of inpatients and identify the determinants of inpatient satisfaction and hospital recommendations.DesignA cross-sectional study was conducted in 2022.SettingA tertiary general hospital in Sichuan Province, China.Participants271 inpatients were randomly selected and studied.Primary and secondary outcome measuresA tailored questionnaire was developed to measure inpatient satisfaction and hospital recommendation. T-test and analysis of variance were employed to compare the differences in inpatients’ demographic characteristics across five satisfaction domains. Multivariate binary logistic regression was performed to identify determinants associated with inpatient satisfaction and hospital recommendation.ResultsThe mean inpatient satisfaction score was 4.27 and the mean hospital recommendation score was 3.96. Inpatients showed the highest satisfaction with the physician care domain and the lowest satisfaction with the hospital environment domain. Statistically significant differences were observed in inpatient demographic characteristics among specific satisfaction domains. Older inpatients, those with Urban Employees and Residents Medical Insurance, from the internal medicine department, and inpatients from the hospital’s older region reported the highest levels of satisfaction. Multivariate binary logistic regression revealed that the nursing care domain was the strongest positive predictor of both inpatient overall satisfaction and hospital recommendation. Additionally, the medical procedure and hospital environment domains were strong positive predictors for hospital recommendation and inpatient overall satisfaction respectively. The hospital region domain was a strong negative predictor for inpatient overall satisfaction.ConclusionsHigher satisfaction levels do not necessarily correlate with an increased likelihood of hospital recommendation. Inpatient satisfaction levels vary significantly based on factors such as age, gender, insurance type, hospital clinical department and region. The domains of nursing care and medical procedure are the influencing factors associated with inpatient overall satisfaction. The domains of nursing care, hospital environment and hospital region are the influencing factors of inpatient hospital recommendation.

Analysis of Factors Affecting the Inpatient Satisfaction in Integrated Nursing Care Service Wards using a Healthcare Service Survey Database

Purpose : In this study, we aimed to identify factors influencing the inpatient satisfaction in integrated nursing care service wards. Methods : Using data from the 2020 and 2021 healthcare service experience surveys conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, this study analyzed a weighted sample of 416,020 participants using descriptive statistics, pairedt-test, Pearson’s correlation, and multiple linear regression analyses. Results : Inpatient satisfaction in integrated nursing care service wards was most significantly affected by the experiences with nursing services and perceived health status, followed by experiences with doctor services, length of hospitalization, age, experiences with medical institution services, education level, gender, presence of chronic diseases, type of hospital, and occupation. Most significant positive impacts were associated with experiences with nursing and doctor services, especially in general hospitals and high-level facilities, among males and elderly patients ＞ 60 years old. In contrast, high education level, presence of chronic diseases, and unemployment were associated with low inpatient satisfaction. Conclusion : Effective programs and guidelines must be developed and implemented to expand and promote the integrated nursing care and medical services and overall utilization of healthcare institutions, with a special focus on person-centered care.

Analysis of Factors Affecting Inpatient Satisfaction at RSU Wulan Windy Medan Marelan

Patient satisfaction is a key indicator in assessing the quality of healthcare services provided by hospitals. It reflects the individual experiences of each patient and signifies the effectiveness of the service delivery system. High levels of satisfaction are associated with timely service delivery, environmental comfort, effective communication, and the expertise and friendliness of medical staff. This study analyzes factors influencing inpatient satisfaction at RSU Wulan Windy Medan Marelan. The research employs a quantitative approach through survey methodology with data collected from 355 respondents. Statistical analysis included bivariate chi-square tests and multivariate logistic regression. Results indicate significant impacts of timely service delivery, comfort, and staff competence on patient satisfaction, with p-values of <0.001 for each factor.

The practice and effect of multi-disciplinary cooperative mobile devices in improving the satisfaction of inpatients on drug education

Objective: To explore the effect of multi-disciplinary cooperative mobile device-assisted drug education on the satisfaction of inpatients drug education. Methods: Mobile nursing vehicle, IPAD, and mobile phone were used to scan QR code to play drug propaganda videos and distribute drug propaganda materials. Doctors, nurses and pharmacists cooperated to complete drug education for inpatients. The satisfaction on drug education of inpatients was collected through a third-party satisfaction survey. Results: Before implementation, the four satisfactions of communicating about the drug, understanding the purpose of the drug, informing the role of the drug and informing the side effect of the drug were 83.9%, 80.4%, 83.8% and 83.9%, respectively, and after the implementation increased to 88.2%, 86.4%, 89.6% and 87.3% (P<0.05). The effective rate of drug education among inpatients increased from 95% before the implementation to 99.4%, and the medication compliance of inpatients increased from 93.1% before the implementation to 98.75%. Conclusion: Multi-subject cooperative mobile device-assisted drug education can improve the satisfaction of inpatients drug education, the efficiency of drug education and drug compliance. Inpatient Satisfaction on Non-Pharmacological Interventions for Acute Settings: A Systematic Review.

Many patients experience stress and dissatisfaction when they are admitted to acute settings, where they receive short-term and active care for severe injuries, illnesses, or surgeries. Patient satisfaction is a key indicator of healthcare quality that affects patient outcomes, service delivery, and safety. This review aimed at systematically mapping and summarizing the evidence on non-pharmacological interventions that targeted patient satisfaction in inpatient acute settings. Three electronic databases were searched, including PubMed, EBSCO, and ScienceDirect. The inclusion criteria were: (1) studies of non-pharmacological interventions to improve patients' satisfaction and targeting inpatients between the ages of 19 and 65 years old; (2) studies written in English and published in the last 10 years, starting from 2017. The search results were imported and screened for eligibility on Covidence. The data was then extracted, using a tool entered in Covidence's Extraction 2.0. The extraction tool included domains on both intervention impact and delivery processes. A total of 11 articles met the inclusion criteria. Randomized control trials represented the most among the group; seven studies were included given that the others were quasi-experimental studies. Those studies were conducted on the different types of services offered in acute care departments. These studies did not use a standardized questionnaire to evaluate their respective trial outcomes or to implement various adapted or adopted modules of intervention. Of note, the intervention was effective in enhancing patient satisfaction in only some of the studies. Different types of intervention modules have been effective in improving acute care patient satisfaction. However, further studies are needed to evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention among all patients in different acute care departments at the same time.

Utility of the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Global Mental Health T-Score to Identify Patients at Risk for Poor Postsurgical Outcomes Following Total Hip Arthroplasty

BackgroundMental illness is a known risk factor for poor postoperative outcomes following total hip arthroplasty (THA); however, the relationship between a patients overall mental health and recovery from THA is not as well established. Using the preoperative Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS-10) Mental Health Subdomain T-Score (MHT), the purpose of this study was to understand the association between mental health and postoperative outcomes up to one year following THA. MethodsThis was a retrospective chart review of patients undergoing elective primary THA. Patients who did not have a formal diagnosis of a mental illness condition were divided based on their MHT (above average [AA] > 50, average 40 to 50, below average [BA] < 40). Postsurgical parameters included inpatient opioid consumption and patient satisfaction, and 1-year postsurgery self-reported pain and patient-reported outcomes scores. A total of 972 patients were included in this study (AA 61.2%, average 33.1%, BA 5.7%). ResultsAfter controlling for confounders, multivariate models demonstrated that the MHT was an independent predictor of pain, opioid consumption, patient-reported outcomes, and satisfaction. Patients in the AA group overall demonstrated better outcomes and required fewer opioids than those in the BA group. ConclusionsThe MHT can be used as a preoperative screening tool that can identify an at-risk group that has not been previously described. An MHT < 40 was associated with poor postoperative outcomes, increased pain and opioid consumption, and lower overall satisfaction scores.

Associations between readmission and patient-reported measures in acute psychiatric inpatients: a multicenter prospective longitudinal study.

This study examined whether patient-reported measures (PRMs) addressing quality of life, personal agency, functional impairment, and treatment satisfaction at hospital discharge were associated with future readmission during a 12-month follow-up period. The study also examined whether readmission influenced changes in the same measures. A multicenter prospective cohort study was conducted at 21 psychiatric hospitals in Japan. Participants completed the EuroQol-five-dimensions-five-level (EQ-5D), the Five-item Subjective Personal Agency Scale, and the Sheehan Disability Scale (SDS) at the time of index admission (T1), discharge from index admission (T2), and 6months (T3) and 12months (T4) after discharge. Inpatient treatment satisfaction was assessed at T2. Readmission and variables potentially associated with hospitalization and PRMs were evaluated using mixed-effects logistic regression models and mixed models for repeated measures. A total of 491 participants were followed for 12months (attrition rate: 19.4%), and 480 were included in the EQ-5D analysis. The most common diagnoses were schizophrenia (59%), depression (14%), and bipolar disorder (13%). No patient-reported measures were significantly associated with readmission over the follow-up period. Interaction of readmission and time did not significantly affect changes in EQ-5D. Readmission did significantly influence SDS score changes between T2 and T3 (B = 1.78, 95% CI = 0.30-3.25, p = 0.018) and between T3 and T4 (B = 1.43, 95% CI = 0.14-2.72, p = 0.029).The same influence of readmission on SDS score changes was not observed in the model which adjusted for all potential covariates. Readmission was potentially associated with changes in self-reported functional impairment. Findings highlight the potential role of intensive post-discharge services in preventing readmission, rather than relying on time-of-discharge PRMs in order to predict readmission risk. Patient satisfaction and value based purchasing in hospitals, Odisha, India.

To examine how a general inpatient satisfaction survey functions as a hospital performance measure. We conducted a mixed-methods pilot study of the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Health Providers and Systems survey in Odisha, India. We divided the study into three steps: cognitive testing of the survey, item testing with exploratory factor analysis and content validity indexing. Cognitive testing involved 50 participants discussing their interpretation of survey items. The survey was then administered to 507 inpatients across five public hospitals in Odisha, followed by exploratory factor analysis. Finally, we interviewed 15 individuals to evaluate the content validity of the survey items. Cognitive testing revealed that six out of 18 survey questions were not consistently understood within the Odisha inpatient setting, highlighting issues around responsibilities for care. Exploratory factor analysis identified a six-factor structure explaining 66.7% of the variance. Regression models showed that interpersonal care from doctors and nurses had the strongest association with overall satisfaction. An assessment of differential item functioning revealed that patients with a socially marginalized caste reported higher disrespectful care, though this did not translate into differences in reported satisfaction. Content validity indexing suggested that discordance between experiences of disrespectful care and satisfaction ratings might be due to low patient expectations. Using satisfaction ratings without nuanced approaches in value-based purchasing programmes may mask poor-quality interpersonal services, particularly for historically marginalized patients. Surveys should be designed to accurately capture true levels of dissatisfaction, ensuring that patient concerns are not hidden.

The Relationship of Culture-Based Primary Service with Patient Satisfaction in the Inpatition Room of Hospital X in Pontianak

The aim of this research is to analyze the relationship between culture-based excellent service and patient satisfaction in the inpatient room at Hospital X in Pontianak.The research uses quantitative descriptive methods with a cross-sectional study approach. The total sample is 86 respondents, the measuring instrument is a questionnaire of excellent service and customer satisfaction which was created by the author himself with validation results of calculated r values ranging from 0.40 to 0.887 and reliability of 0.944 and 0.956. The research results showed that almost all of the respondents said it was very good, 68 people or (79.07%), the level of patient satisfaction, the majority of respondents said it was very satisfied, 63 people or (73.26%), the results of the analysis of excellent service relationships based on Culture and patient satisfaction with the Spearman Rank obtained a SIG value = 0.000 (Sig &lt; 0.05), so it can be concluded that there is a very significant relationship between excellent service and patient satisfaction in the Inpatient Room at Hospital X in Pontianak. It is hoped that the results of this research can be used to improve excellent nursing service because of the importance of excellent nursing service in increasing the satisfaction of inpatients at Hospital X in Pontianak.

Background: The success of food delivery depends on the expectations, perceptions, and assessment of patient satisfaction with the quality of services provided by the hospital. Nutrition services, especially the provision of food for inpatients, is one of the medical support services that can help patients' healing and recovery efforts Objectives: This study aims to determine the description of inpatient satisfaction with food services at Sidoarjo Regional Hospital. This study was conducted descriptively with a cross sectional research design Methods: Determination of the sample by accidental sampling where respondents are subjects who are encountered or happen to be treated in each inpatient room in September 2019 with a sample size of 350 patients. Data collection was carried out by interview method using a patient satisfaction questionnaire. Results: The percentage of overall patient satisfaction who stated that they were satisfied was 91%, while those who stated that they were not satisfied were 9%. Indicators of patient satisfaction include cleanliness of cutlery, food appearance, attitude and appearance of waiters, taste of dishes, temperature of dishes, and nutritionist visits. Conclusions: The indicator of nutritionist visits is an indicator that has the highest inappropriate value, seen in the survey results in the VK room (23%), Mawar Kuning (51%), Mawar Merah Putih (46%), and Tulip (9%), and patients as a whole (26%). In addition, the temperature indicator of the dish is also an indicator that has the highest percentage of inappropriate values, seen in the survey results in the Teratai room (16%) and Tulip (9%).

An Analysis of Inpatient Satisfaction with Trust-related Factors of Public Secondary and Tertiary Hospitals in China.

Patient satisfaction surveys are implemented as an essential quality improvement tool in healthcare markets. This study investigates patient satisfaction in public secondary and tertiary hospitals and identifies factors contributing to inpatient satisfaction, particularly trust-related factors, to eventually improve the quality of care in the healthcare system. A population-based cross-sectional survey was conducted between February and April 2021 in 31 Chinese provinces. Telephone interviews with computer assistance were used to gather data. Spearman Rank Correlation was used to analyze satisfaction with hospitalization services between secondary and tertiary hospitals. Multiple Linear Regression was used to determine the influencing factors of overall patient satisfaction. Inpatients reported more satisfaction with inpatient care when doctors treated them respectfully (p<0.01). Inpatients with higher self-identified social class reported higher satisfaction (p<0.01). Inpatients who trust in most people in society (p<0.01) and trust in the Chinese healthcare system (p<0.01) reported higher satisfaction. Female inpatients reported higher overall satisfaction (p<0.01). The study of Chinese inpatients in secondary and tertiary hospitals highlighted the importance of respect from doctors, their self-identified social class, and their trust in influencing satisfaction during their hospital stay and called for additional research into policy measures.

The quality of nursing services is the appearance/performance that refers to the level of perfection of nursing services which on the one hand can give rise to satisfaction for each patient in accordance with the average level of satisfaction of the population and on the other hand and the procedures for administering it in accordance with the standards of the professional code of ethics that have been established, while satisfaction The patient is a level of feeling that arises as a result of the performance of the nursing service he received after the patient compared it with what he expected. So the quality of nursing services received by patients will influence the level of patient satisfaction. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between the quality of nursing services and the level of satisfaction of inpatients at RSU. Perbaungan Jasmine, Serdang Bedagai Regency. The research design used was an analytical survey with a cross sectional approach. The number of samples found was 72 respondents. Data collection was carried out using quota sampling technique. Data were analyzed using chi square with a significance level of p&lt;0.05. The results of the research show that there is a relationship between the quality of nursing services and the level of satisfaction of inpatients at RSU. Perbaungan jasmine, Serdang Bedagai Regency with a p-Value of 0.000. Based on this research, it was concluded that the higher the value of the quality of nursing services, the higher the level of patient satisfaction felt and conversely, the lower the quality of nursing services, the lower the level of patient satisfaction felt.

Ankle presentations in Awka, Nigeria; Treatment methods and outcome

Introduction: The ankle joint, integral to dynamic movement, is prone to a variety of pathologies due to its complex structure and the substantial load it bears during activities such as sprinting, where it can carry up to thirteen times the body's weight. Stability is maintained through passive components like ligaments and bony contours, as well as dynamic forces, including muscle action. Injuries, which can be categorized by systems like the Danis-Weber AO and Lauge-Hansen classifications, are common in diverse settings and can lead to conditions like post-traumatic osteoarthritis. This study explores the prevalence, management, and outcomes of ankle injuries in an orthopaedic hospital setting, aiming to enhance understanding and treatment approaches for these conditions. Methodology: This prospective study analyzed all ankle cases at an orthopaedic hospital in Awka, Nigeria, from 2017 to 2023. Patients were evaluated and diagnosed via history, physical examinations, and investigations, including X-rays classified by the Danis-Weber system. Treatments ranged from surgery, including ORIF and arthrodesis, to casting for undisplaced fractures. Result: This study found the mean age of patients presenting with ankle injuries to be 41.44 years, affecting a wide demographic from 10 to 78 years. Males comprised 60.6% of the cases, and civil servants, who constituted 33.3%, were predominantly affected. The major causes were road traffic accidents (45.5%) and falls (33.3%). Ankle injuries, primarily right bimalleolar fractures, were common and involved significant trauma history. Treatments included ORIF, arthrodesis, and casting, with a high success rate of 97% inpatient recovery and satisfaction, indicating effective treatment protocols for various ankle pathologies, including closed and open injuries. Conclusion: The study illustrates that ankle injuries, predominantly resulting from road traffic accidents and falls, affect a diverse demographic across all ages and occupations, with a majority being male and often involving previous trauma, with closed injuries being the most common and effectively treated primarily through ORIF.

The Influence of Marketing Mix, Service Quality, and Image on Trust and Satisfaction of Inpatients in Makassar City Hospitals

Objectives: The objective of this research is to test and analyze the influence of three main factors - marketing mix, service quality, and image - on the trust and satisfaction of inpatients at hospitals in Makassar City. Methods: This research utilizes primary data collected through the distribution of questionnaires to 215 respondents. The data are then analyzed using the Structural Equation Model (SEM) in Smart PLS version 4 to test and analyze the relationships between the variables. Results: The results of the study indicate that while the marketing mix has a positive effect on the trust of inpatients in Makassar City hospitals, this effect is not significant. However, service quality and image both have a positive and significant effect on the trust of inpatients. Furthermore, the marketing mix has a positive and significant effect on inpatient satisfaction, but its effect on trust is not significant. Service quality also positively influences inpatient satisfaction significantly, while image has a significant positive effect on inpatient satisfaction. Trust is found to positively and significantly affect inpatient satisfaction. Additionally, service quality and image have positive and significant effects on inpatient satisfaction through trust. Conclusion: In conclusion, this research highlights the importance of service quality and image in building trust among inpatients at hospitals in Makassar City. While the marketing mix does have some influence on trust and satisfaction, its impact is not as significant as service quality and image. Moreover, trust plays a crucial role in determining inpatient satisfaction, as service quality and image influence satisfaction primarily through trust. These findings emphasize the significance of maintaining high service quality standards and cultivating a positive image to enhance trust and satisfaction levels among inpatients in hospital settings.

Surgical Service Utilization and In-Patient Satisfaction in Surgical Service.

The patient satisfaction study is an important and commonly used valid indicator for service quality improvement in healthcare institutions. The aim of this study was to assess the service utilization and patient satisfaction in patients admitted under surgical service in Bir Hospital. A prospective cross sectional analytical study was conducted in Bir Hospital, National Academy of Medical Sciences from February 2021 till June 2023. The patient satisfaction data was collected using the SAPS scale after obtaining ethical clearance from the Institutional Review Board. Data were entered and analyzed in Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 20.0. There were 152 patients included in the study categorized into conservative treatment group, elective surgery group and emergency surgery group. 32.9%(50) patients were "very satisfied", 62.5%(95) patients were "satisfied", 2.6%(4) were "neither satisfied nor dissatisfied" and 2%(3) were "dissatisfied" with the effect of their treatment/care. The mean satisfaction score in conservative treatment group was 22.13 ±2.53 as compared to the mean satisfaction in elective surgery group which was 21.11± 2.55 (P=0.036) and the mean satisfaction score in emergency surgery group which was 21.66 ±2.68 (P=0.64). The mean score and proportion of patient satisfaction regarding service utilization in patients admitted under surgical service were high with satisfaction score higher in emergency surgery group among the operative groups in Bir Hospital, National Academy of Medical Sciences.

Pengaruh Kualitas Pelayanan terhadap Kepuasan Pasien Rawat Inap di RSUD Panembahan Senopati Bantul

This study aims to determine the effect of service quality on inpatient satisfaction at Panembahan Senopati Hospital, Bantul. The population is people, while the sample used is 83 inpatients who perform inpatient services. The sampling technique in this study was accidental sampling, data collection was carried out by taking a questionnaire with a Likert scale. The analytical method used in this study was simple regression analysis with the SPSS 22 application. The results of the study (t test) showed that service quality had a significant effect on patient satisfaction with a significant value of 0.000 &lt;0.05. The test results for the coefficient of determination obtained R Square of 0.302. this shows that the dependent variable of customer satisfaction is 30.2% influenced by the independent variable service quality, while 69.8% is influenced by other variables that have not been examined in this study.

This study uses a cross-sectional research design, a quantitative technique, and analytical analysis. There were 61 inpatients in this study's group. Total sampling was the method employed for sampling in this investigation. There were 61 patients in the study's sample. The four aspects of service quality availability, responsiveness, convenience, and timeliness are the independent variables in this study, and patient satisfaction is the dependent variable. Data collection using questionnaires. Bivariate data analysis was performed using the Chi-square test which was analyzed using the help of SPSS software version 26. There is no relationship between the availability dimension and patient satisfaction (p-value=0.000), there is no relationship between the responsiveness dimension and patient satisfaction (p-value=0.000), there is no relationship between the convenience dimension and patient satisfaction (p-value=0.008) and there is no relationship between the timeliness dimension (p-value=0.016) at the mother and child hospital X Semarang City. The dominant variable that affects patient satisfaction is the perception of the availability dimension (p-value=0.000; OR=20.789; 95% CI =4.083-107.031). It is hoped that hospital management in its services is expected by doctors to be able to provide a sense of empathy to respond to complaints from patients, and doctors can inform the officers on duty regarding visite hours so that patients feel better served.
