Abstract A satellite dish having an aperture area of 2.626 m2 is modified into a Parabolic dish concentrator (PDC). An anodized aluminium sheet is used as a reflective material. Three different sizes of aluminium made receiver having diameter 0.150 m, 0.228 m, 0.304 m, and thickness 0.001 m with selective coating are placed at the focus of the PDC. The receiver outer temperature is recorded with the help of J type thermocouple. The maximum temperature of 309 °C was achieved in the 0.150 m diameter receiver. The receiver outer temperature depends upon the solar intensity and the wind speed. As the size of the receiver is increases from 0.150 m to 0.304 m, the temperature starts decreasing at the outer surface. The experiment was conducted at NIT, Kurukshetra, India.
